Exactly!

It's the same naija journos who speculated that Conte was going to give Mikel "a free role in Chelsea midfield". Now, we all know how that ended up.

O pari

TheSuperNerd:
You have a good point there O pari master.....

When I went through the foreign sites carrying the Leicester-Nacho news like telegraph UK, I didn't see anything about a "favorite role" being part of the bargain... probably it is something OGN just added based on their own speculation as Vardy is Leicester's first choice no.9/striker and They play majorly a 4-4-2.

This is definitely the BEST analysis I have read on the game. You really hit the nails squarely on the heads. I agree with practically everything you've written below.

I even agreed with your assessment of Siasia. As a matter of fact, I have always advocated giving the Super Eagles to Siasia along with Simeon Kalika. The two of them together would always deliver. Personally, I don't believe that Siasia can handle the Super Eagles by himself but give him Kalika to work with and he's top notch.

Kudos again on a very insightful analysis!

O pari

Mickael2:
After watching this match for the 3rd time just now there are a few things I noticed.

1) Whoever says that Ekong was average in this game needs to tell me the match he watched. None of the chances created came through his side of the defence, he literally shut down that side of the defence, nothing and nobody moved there, in fact he was awesome. When you watch that game again without tension or anger you will understand. Awaziem however needs to go back to training school, his clearances from the very first whistle were funny, he was swiping at the ball wildly, and he is no ball-playing CB. He was always afraid to carry the ball more than 20m beyond our box which shows lack of confidence and ball playing abilities.

2) watching Onazi was like a comic release. He was literally everywhere except where he should be. Most times it was as if he was playing as the LB, not that Echejile was out of position, I don't know if I should say that he just wants the glory or he has too much energy to burn. And then when Echejile will go forward thinking that Onazi has him covered, Onazi too will go forward thinking that a supernatural being has him covered as well.

3) Our fullbacks were poor. Where was that Echejile that scored a goal at the 2013 Afcon? The poor showing was exemplified by a particular passage of play in the first half, Iwobi had the ball on the edge of the box with only one defender ahead of him, he held the ball for 5 seconds thinking that Echejile was bombing forward to support him(like any good LB would) and by the time he realized that we had an imposter on the left side another SA player had already returned and a potentially dangerous situation was laid to waste. Shehu I cannot complain about, his side was balanced together with Ekong, brilliant player that boy but he needs to brushen up his ball playing abilities, needs to learn how to take on his man.

4) Simon is just what he is. He skinned both the LB and RB repeatedly and only if he could cross to save his life we would have scored a lot of goals. He was switching wings to devastating effects but the final ball was lacking. And the final ball has always been lacking in his game, he was our best forward/midfield player on the day. Iwobi however was literally kneeling down and begging for a passing partner with Echejile being totally non-existent. Iwobi wasn't poor, the system was poor, with a good LB Iwobi would perform well which is why I don't understand why someone would say that he isn't a wide midfielder, truth is if we are playing a 4-5-1 then nobody suits that position more than Iwobi, except we want to change to a 4-3-3.

5) Etebo needs to be dragged backwards. Killer passes just isn't his game, he should stamp down on that CMF position where all he needs to do is spray short passes and burst forward every once in a while, his decision making needs some work as well. Ndidi wasn't briliant and his strikes lacked their usual accuracy.

6) Who said Iheanacho was making runs? Iheanacho was standing in the exact same spot all match long. He was standing beside the LCB all match long, he didn't take up any other position and even when he dropped deep a couple of times to touch the ball, he lost it in both instances and even when Simon produced a nice cross to the back post that was begging to be nodded in, Iheanacho was not well positioned, that ball is what all strikers thrive on, that doesn't mean he isn't a good striker though just poor poor display from him, and that show of petulence should not go unpunished. Then watch what happened when Kayode came in, he actually took up two great goalscoring oppurtunities, one Etebo failed to pass but decided to shoot when Kayode was open, the next one he did receive the pass although he didn't hit the target but he gave the midfielders a passing option and they actually found him which shows that the midfielders actually know how to pass just that the striker wasn't giving them that opening. Promising display from him, if he had started that match he would have gassed out the two cbs and Iheanacho could pick the pieces but that's gone.

7) Let us now be plainly honest. Rohr is NOT A BRILLIANT COACH, he is a great man manager but far from a brilliant coach, no plan B nothing. I mean your plan B is a 3-4-3 formation but somehow the main player in your 3-4-3, you decide to leave out of the match day squad, makes no sense. No tactical tweaks during the game. IMHO, no team can outplay Sia1's team like that. I know he may invite his boys but they always deliver. If not for Moses we would have defeated Egypt, if not for Sadiq Umar we would have defeated Germany etc. The guy is a good coach but somehow we managed to tie down Rohr, but not that Rohr is bad but if we can get Sia1 as his assistant(not this Salisu guy), the combination would be perfect.

Oh and please BringBackOurEnyeama. Is Akpeyi a pro player?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 11:40pm On Jun 10, 2017
Good point. But I will say that we were not outplayed, per se. We dominated possession but lack of cohesion killed our game. Stuart Baxter had a master counter attack game plan that always catch us off guard. I will blame it on inexperience.

We definitely need Mikel's experience in that midfield. We also missed Leon Balogun's calmness at the back. I think that our boys were over confident. In the first half, they were strolling around the pitch like a practice game. I will be interested to hear Rohr's excuse for that piss poor performance.

And finally, I will add that we need to renovate the Abuja stadium and play all our home matches there. The weather condition is better for our foreign based players and the stadium is much bigger. And I don't wanna speculate on what games the Cross River and Akwa Ibom babes may be playing with our players grin Those boys look very fatigued to me.

O pari

komekn:
With the team of rookies that we put out today hmmmm that's very optimistic.

We got out played, out passed and run over by a good SA team, they were not great that's worrying.

When you get beat by a couple of lucky goals there is hope. However, we could easily have lost this game 5-0 our attacks were mainly hopeful balls. We didn't have the inventiveness of the SA as a team we were hopeless.

Goal number two exposed the depth of our defensive naivety and lack of structure and team cohesion.

If we were to play Cameroon with this approach we will get slaughtered.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m):
Ol' boy, which kind of rating is this? Are you sure that even watched the game set?

Etebo was our best player, but you rated him 5/10? But Onazi who kept appearing and disappearing was rated 5.5/10. Even Musa deserves more than 4.5/10 sef, if you are willing to give Kayode 5/10. Are you freaking kidding me?

Bottom line, is the boys actually played well but they were just too casual and didn't move the ball fast, especially in the first half. And in addition, there were too many inaccurate passes especially in the final third. We dominated play but not much penetration.

Super Eagles Players Ratings Vs RSA : Porto's Awaziem, Echiejile Are Standout Flops

Fans of the Super Eagles all had high hopes before the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Saturday evening.

It turned out to be a bitter story as the Stuart Baxter tutored lads deservedly earned a 2-0 win at the ultra modern Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Goals from Tekelo Rantie and Pacy Tau handed Bafana Bafana the coveted three points.

Allnigeriasoccer.com rates the Super Eagles players at the end of the game in Uyo.

Daniel Akpeyi 4/10

Did not have much to do from open play but looked shaky anytime he was called into duty. He couldn’t command his area and conceded two goals. No composure. Didn’t look like a professional. Only two good saves was made by the Chippa United goalkeeper.

Shehu Abdullahi 6/10

One of the positives on the field of play. The Anathorsis Famagusta star offered support to his teammates whenever he ventured forward and performed his defensive duties.

Elderson Echiejille 3/10

The former Sporting Braga full back had a poor game. He put every foot wrong and was often ball watching. This might be his last game for Nigeria. His wing was exploited by the speedy Rantie and Zwane. Disappointing.

William Troost Ekong 5/10

Started the game very well with his timely tackles and leadership skills. His fruitful partnership with Leon Balogun was missing as he had a torrid time covering for the jittery Awaziem.

Chidozie Awaziem 2/10

The Porto man didn’t help his case for future invitations with a less than convincing game. His performance is beginning to make me ask questions whether we have not overrated him. Beaten easily by the foxy South Africans. Gave away possession easily and was often chasing shadows.

Ogenyi Onazi 5.5/10

A tireless performance from a player who reserves his best performances for the national team. Was the conductor of the Super Eagles’ orchestra with his probing passing and shooting. Won several tackles too.

Onyinye Ndidi 5/10

On a day you would have expected the Leicester City youngster to show his class and talents against the opposition, he often exposed his team and couldn’t do anything extra-ordinary. No through pass. No initiation of attack.

Oghenekaro Etebo 5/10

Started the game strongly as the playmaker. His close range effort couldn’t go into the back of the net and that seemed to affect his concentration as he flitted out of the game. Might have done enough to secure a permanent take on the role.

Kelechi Iheanacho 4/10

Anonymous during his time on the field of play. Not a threat to the Bafana defenders. Save for a through pass to Etebo which he couldn’t convert, he didn’t do anything up front.

Moses Simon 6/10

Looked the most dangerous whenever he had the ball. The Gent winger forced Khune to two point blank saves. He should have done better with his final delivery, which is an aspect of his game he needs to work on.

Alex Iwobi 4/10

Iwobi was like a pedestrian on the field. He struggled to get himself involved in the game with vast chunks passing him by. Was not involved in a single pivotal moment. The game is his worst in the colours of the Super Eagles.

Substitutes

Olarenwaju Kayode 5/10

Thrown in when Eagles needed goals desperately. A player of boundless energy, he used that to good effect as he got into decent goal scoring positions. He was menacing as the point man and caused a few problems.

Ahmed Musa 4.5/10

Struggled to set up teammates. Saw a lot of the ball but did very little effective work with it.

Victor Osimhen

Did little to be rated.

Good point. I just hope that the NFF doesn't react by messing with the current team. The result is bad but we can beat South Africa at their home too. If they can do it in Nigeria, we can do same in South Africa. Remember that this team was missing 4 very important players.

Anyway, let's hope that this is gonna be a wake up call for the players and the coaches. We can't afford any slip ups against Cameroun. Or else, it's bye bye to the World Cup.

Folks, beg, let's not pick and chose whom to blame for this disaster. In fact, aside from Etebo and to some extent Simon Moses, all our other players were PISS POOR.

I was most disappointed with Ndidi because I expected so much from him. Onazi didn't play great either. I think the captain's arm band was weighing too heavy on him today. Awazien was OK but made some crucial errors. Same with Shehu. Nacho was MIA for most part of the match. And I can go on and on ....

A very poor outing today by the boys. I don't know whether to blame it on fatigue after the long season. For some reasons, they didn't play with a lot of energy. As a matter of fact, after the first 30 mins, I told my friend that we ain't gonna win this game. But even me didn't expect us to lose by two zero. And it would've been much more because South Africa hit the bar twice and the ref denied them a clear penalty as well.
