Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Churches Pay Salaries To Musicians? by Idekeson(m): 5:59pm On Apr 14, 2006
The church is now a full-fledged business enterprise. The bottom line for most of them is profit maximization. The better musicians get hired and are well paid to improve the quality of the product put out every Sunday.
TravelRe: Green Card Denied Due To Birth Certificate. by Idekeson(op): 5:45pm On Apr 14, 2006
@phoneman
Thanks. That's the same advice I gave him. To get a lawyer, since it seems like a case of incomplete documentation. It's a family based petition. In most cases I know, they would've told him to go and produce the document. But because they claim that they wrote him a letter to send in a birth certificate and he still came to the interview with a baptismal card, his application is denied. It's unfortunate, but I'm sure a lawyer can appeal within 30 days to enable him submit a birth certificate. Hopefully he can get his green card, since the birth certificate was the only reason given on his denial letter

FashionRe: Girls' New Dress Code: Wear Your Trousers To Show Your Underpants! by Idekeson(m): 6:40pm On Apr 13, 2006
I have no problem with it. Humans are a dynamic creatures. Always evolving in their character. I bet you, in a couple of decades, people will be walking around freely with patches covering their private area. Few people will remember what a fully clothed homo-sapien used to look like, and such dressing will definitely be uncool. Moralty is what majority of soceity make of it. Remember when women weren't allowed to wear pants (trousers) in public.
CelebritiesRe: Why Are We Not Crazy About Our Celebrities? by Idekeson(m): 2:59am On Apr 13, 2006
Our celebrity may be famous but they're are not living the dream life like most celebrities in Europe and the U.S. Our celebrities are not rich enough to tickle our imagination.  We actually adore flamboyant rich men in Nigeria more than our celebrities.

my guy, it doesn't matter why "biafra" failed. the fact is it did.
Biafra never had a chance to succeed or fail. There is a difference between a failed state and a conquered state.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Alot Of Nigerians (and Africans) Poor In A Rich Country by Idekeson(m): 2:20am On Apr 13, 2006
The fact that you find yourself in a rich nation doesn't give you a license to walk into a Bank and withdraw money. Your standard of living largely depends on your career or inheritance. Most Africans arrive with neither. Getting a good career requires education. Education is expensive. It's a complex mix of factors which you will understand if you're old enough.

You said it yourself, they don't have roads, electricity, schools etc

Which means they're not in a position to respond. Why don't you give us the facts, if you have any.
PoliticsRe: Secession : We Will All Fail by Idekeson(m): 1:55am On Apr 13, 2006
@Seun
There is a difference between opinion and erroneous information. Biafra failed because it was up against a Nigerian military solidly backed by the British.
I am very sure your comments wasn't as a result of ignorance of facts surrounding the Nigeria civil war. That's why I'm highly disappointed.
You are free to have an opinion without taking shots at Igbos whom you are quite aware, are anything but failures in any field of human endeavor.

My brother there is no intellectual argument that i can present to refute or change your perspective. I can only pray that you personally experience Jesus the way i did. That will always be my prayer for you out of a heart full of love and understanding. Cheers.
I love your perspective. I believe that until I experience a higher consciousness that will enable me jettison all my intellect, I prefer to hold on to rational thinking that has so far served me well in life.

theres this one i heard about, a true story, a guy that liked a girl, tried his best to win her affection and she didnt budge. He tried all the avenues he could, she said no. The guy got angry that he had been despised, went to native docs and did 'magun' on her(without her knowledge). Magun is a yoruba word, meaning 'don't climb.
At the end of the day, she finally found herself the sweetheart she wanted, cutting the long story short, she and her new guy got married, but sorry to say, her new husband died the next morning after the wedding(in his sleep). She then receives an anonymous note from the first suitor guy, that she has been cursed with magun. The mental torture, pain, despair has turned her almost to a broom-stick. Till today, shes not married.
Thats Nigeria for you!!!!
Another Naija myth. How come such story always start with "theres this one i heard"
Nairaland GeneralRe: Has NEPA (PHCN) Ever Made You Mad? by Idekeson(m): 1:51am On Apr 12, 2006
Does anyone in the house understand why energy generation and distribution cannot work in Nigeria? Or is it simply mismanagement of resources and corruption, like everything else?
Christianity EtcRe: Nigerian Churches Today Are Business Centers! by Idekeson(m): 2:45pm On Apr 11, 2006
Whichever way the adherents will attempt to justify it, there appears to be something worldly and spiritually wrong when pastors are living in splendor and erecting mammoth edifice, while their followers wallow in poverty and hardship.
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor T. B. Joshua: The Man in the Synagogue by Idekeson(m): 2:23pm On Apr 11, 2006
He is just another guy trying to make a buck out of poverty- stricken, disease- ridden and emotionally- unbalanced Nigerians. Often scarring people with the age-long fear of eternal damnation. kudos to them because it takes lots of skill to perfect the art.

well, i don't know about the eldest brother u are talking about, but i do know that Emma was nicknamed "jay jay" during his time with Rangers FC enugu.
secondly, i also know that their father played for Railway FC.
Youngies is very correct. His elder brother is the original Jay-Jay. That's why you have Emma Jay-Jay and then Austin Jay-Jay, by way of Mbanefo street, New Haven, Enugu.
Christianity EtcRe: Good Friday Miracle Night With Pastor Chris by Idekeson(m): 1:48pm On Apr 11, 2006
I wonder when one of this anointed ministers will deliver a no-fee miracle night. Strictly no offerings. That will be something. If anyone feels fulfilled at the end of the night, you go home and glorify the lord in any manner you deem fit. After all, it's between you and your God. But I understand the churches got bills to pay. So till then, we wait and pray. And remember not to look the other way when the 2nd and 3rd round of offering plates are passed around.

No, they don't have to. But, until more Nigerian women become economically empowered and culturally liberated, the sad trend will persist.
TravelGreen Card Denied Due To Birth Certificate. by Idekeson(op): 2:49pm On Apr 09, 2006
My friend was denied his green card application because he used a baptismal card instead of a birth certificate or declaration of age. He didn't know that INS no longer accepts baptismal cards as proof of date of birth. He has been informed that he can get a birth certificate from the Nigeria Population Commission. He is planning to appeal the decision to an Immigration judge. Anyone with advice for my guy is highly appreciated.
