Rules of engagement in International Law hinges on Necessity and Proportionality. Armed forces apply the combat power necessary to ensure victory through appropriate and disciplined use of force. The problem arises when rebel forces, who do not observe International treaties or Customary International Laws are involved. There are on going debate on the trial of soldiers that violate Laws of War. Whether soldiers can use the defense of superior orders and duress for their actions during combat? This is a difficult issue especially when the soldier is facing threat of death if he doesn't obey an order. The other issue is command responsibility. Should a commander be responsible for all the actions of his troop, regardless of whether he knew or should have known? |
@dargly Where is the next protest at? I have my placard ready, waiting for your direction. Aluta Continua! |
Weep Not Child - Ngugi Wa Thiong'o. |
The kids are not to be blamed for the ignorance of their parents. But these unfortunate kids ought to realize that it's an aberration which must not be encouraged. |
There are no permanent friends or enemies, but permanent interests in international relations. |
Are these guys credible and objective? Because bold and fearless reporting may not necessarily translate into good journalism if you don't know where the truth lies. |
My name Ikechukwu. My father's name Ayodele and my mother's name is Amina. I'm a graduate student studying lawyer at University of Zaria. Hit me, I think we have a few things in common. ![]() |
exu:I wonder where you did your little sampling. Maybe you should take a trip to a chinatown in any major metropolis in Europe or the US and sample the kids born there. |
otokx:Some people surely know how to "yarn" rubbish! It's due to folks like you that Nigeria's future looks grime. |
I can't wait to transcend to jam with Baba (Fela) one more time. |
Sometimes some laws are made to advance a public policy. It's not about right or wrong. Same way you can't make the white race to pay repatriation to minorities for years of repressive state policies, society has to come up with ways of bridging the gap caused by these policies. Affirmative action is one way of solving this problems, or the cycle of servitude will continue forever. |
I don't trust you with your present guy, if you can't decide wether you love him enough to forget a guy that you didn't even sleep with back in high school. Are you sure you really love your current boyfriend? Something tells me deep in your heart, you want to get back to your first love. |
We may not necessarily want to have "variety of love" but we naturally get attracted to women with an increased urge to "have" them, unlike the way women naturally feel about men. Thank God religion, the laws of man and societal values keep us in check. |
There no proof of any disadvantage in having a child learn multiple languages. All the parent simply have to do is speak indigenous language and the child picks it up in their formative stage. The kid will surely pick up formal language at school. The excuse that the kid might get confused learning both, is complete bullshit. Any parent that can speak an indigenous language and fail to pass it along to the kid is selling the kid short. There is nothing to lose and a lot to gain by speaking multiple languages, no matter how "uncool" the indigenous language is. It's mindboggling to imagine Nigerians living in Nigeria but can't speak their local language fluently. |
I'll take a pass. I hate to gamble with my finances. Females, You never know. ![]() |

The answer to your question is very simple without getting into sentiments. Standard of living. This is an objective standard that has nothing to do with our attachment to our roots. Where will the average man enjoy a better life? Abroad of course. |
For me John Grisham is the MAN. I love the real life feel of it. And the excitement associated with the justice system. |
Right or wrong, women are judged by their looks and naturally young girls look better than old women. So when a woman has pre-occupied most of her time maintaining a youthful and radiant look, the last thing she'll do is to give it all up by revealing her true age. Knowing a woman's true age will make you see through all the make-up, plastic surgery, liposuction etc. |
lioness:Jesus and his disciples never shied away from "manipulative traps like these". |
Do you think a sustained effort on the part of the US and Britain can make Obasanjo abandon his 3rd term ambitions? Are they willing to take such bold step in the case of Nigeria knowing that their economic interest might be at stake. I'm asking this questions because a lot of times you hear mid to low level officials in the US government make few comments about Nigeria, but you rarely see the top level officials commit on such issues. Western countries when they support despotic regimes in Africa often hide under the excuse of respecting their sovereignty. But we all know that their actions are determined by economic interest and strategic advantages. So do you think the US will insist that Obasanjo drop his 3rd term and risk their steady supply of oil? |
Obasanjo denied a lot of mothers the opportunity to celebrate mother's day with their grand kids who couldn't make it as a result of travel restrictions for the census. |
If the entire verse of the bible should be reduced to "Love your neighbor as yourself", the goal of Christianity will be clearly defined. I think. |
The problem I have with Christianity is the complication of the belief system. I am a Christian and I am not planning to jump around because in the end, it's just between you and your God (whatever you belief in). The name of Jesus has pretty much been the basis of modern day Christianity. The whole idea of trinity, has not made it any easier for us to understand. It always comes down to dogma. Just believe and you should be fine. I wish it was better than that. And our religious leaders are often armed with the ready made answer that "Man's intelligence is like a filthy rag in the face of God". I just wish God will have mercy on us and revert to the old testament and show us some more signs. |
To all the mothers, Good Health and Prosperity. We love you all. |
@Rhea When is the next traditional ceremony. It seems like a nice vacation spot ![]() |
Zahymaka:I'm responding to your post because I love sharing ideas, so please don't get it twisted. Back to your interesting discourse. Societal behaviors evolve over time. And if what you're advocating, which has nothing to do with the rights of a woman (we're talking about show of emotions), is not widely practiced, maybe it's not for the good of the majority. Until then, you have every right to promote it and try to convince more people that it is better than the norm. |
It's not about defending male pride. You can't advocate femininity as a means of relieving pressure for men. Most men has been able to handle pressure without having to "chicken" out. And those men that hasn't been able to handle pressure well will not have done so with tons of hugs and kisses. Behavioral pattern of both men and women has been borne out of age long cultural orientations, and it has worked for humanity. |
Zahymaka:What are you really driving at? Do you need a man to hug and kiss? ![]() |
