Eastlink: Only a demented old man will write the bolded. Edwin Clark should be reminded that his village was in the Western Region and not the Eastern Region. If he has any grouse with the underdevelopement in his community, he should blame the appropriate Premier. Zik and Okpara for all we know did well in the Eastern region. Okpara's achievements are still standing till today. The industrial estate from P/H & Enugu are still standing. The Palm, Cocoa, Cashew & Rubber plantations in Ikwerre, Ogoja, Ohaji/Egbema, Yenagoa, Calabar, Umuahia, Okigwe, Ikom, etc are still standing. UNN and UNICAL are still standing till today.
The international trade centres in Onitsha and Aba are still standing. The independent power plant in Aba & Oji-River Enugu are still there. The Nkalagu cement and car processing plant in Emene. And a host of laudable achievements. Despite the civil war, the footprints of Zik and Okpara are still visible in the old eastern region.
The stupid propaganda spread by lazy our oyel groups is no longer attainable. Let them bring something to the table and not lazying around shouting Asawana and looking for free gifts from the eastern government all because oyel was found somewhere. Baboons in the village of Abakiliki and Ikom cannot be working their ass in farms and some group of person will want special treatment all thanks to oyel found somewhere in Oloibiri. Someone should renind me again whether it was only Oloibiri that oil and natural resources was found in the old east. Oloibiri was not even part of Ijawland then and some clown used Oloibiri as an excuse to pick up arms. Enugu despite the government using their coal, Ebonyi despite their Limestones and Port-Harcourt despite using the seaports didn't cry for special treatment.
Pointing out at section 140 of the 1960 Constitution, Chief Clerk insisted that natural resources found in regions, were controlled by the people of the regions in the country.
“As a former Military Head of State of Nigeria, 1976-1979, and later a democratically elected President of the country, 1999-2007, I am certain Your Excellency knows that the principle of derivation, has always been top on the agenda of our national discourse, before and after the country’s Independence.”
Clark said, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the the Western region and Sir Ahmadu Bello of the Northern region were able to develop their regions above the Eastern region as a result of the practice of the principle of derivation.
“The Eastern Region did not progress like the other two regions. From the benefits of the practice of derivation principle, the Western Region introduced free education, built universities, the first Television in Africa, among other economic and social infrastructure, including hiring at the time, an Israeli Company, Soleh Bole, to develop roads and other infrastructure.”
He pointed out that the derivative principle continued till the discovery of oil in commercial quantity at Oloibiri in 1956 which the then Prime Minister, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, sent congratulatory message to the then Premier of the Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara. Clark is a demented old man with the typical "Awa Oyel" and "Ibos want Awa Oyel" mentality. Eastern region Never used the money from whatever crude oil in Ijawland for development. Oil was discovered in Oloibiri in 1956 quite alright, but by 1957, oil was also discovered in Igboland in Afam Ndokiland! Which was part of Aba division then, in bigger quantity than was found in Oloibiri because those in Oloibiri have dried up, but Afam still produces until today! This is the fact those lazy lots usually leave out to drive home their brainless "Ibos want Awa Oyel" agenda. Secondary, Eastern region never received any revenue from crude oil until during the war when it was due for shell to pay. This is because, she'll had to offset the money they invested in exploration and exploitation of the oil first. I attached receipts of crude oil revenue by Nigeria from 1960 downwards. Bear in mind that Eastern region stopped in 1966 when Okpara was deposed. So how exactly did Okpara, Eastern region and Ndiigbo in particular use Oloibiri oil to fund the region? How exactly were Ijawland marginalized? The bulk of Eastern region resources came from Coal in Enugu and palm oil in Igboland and Ibibio land, and as well as PAYE tax system that Chief Imoke introduced, with most business owners being Igbos, we were also contributing the bulk of the tax used to run the region. Clark is a clown and we should never stay silent and allow these minorities parrot those senseless stories. Pic 1 - Crude oil revenue Pic 2- Oil discovery in Igboland Pic3- Dr Imoke introduced PAYE tax system to augment Eastern region revenue.

Advocate500: Thank God is coming from one of their elder ,so under Michael okpara ,the oil producing state was receiving 50% derivation? Under the one Nigeria they supported the killing of their neighbours because of the same oil they are made to enjoy only 13%.
But some people have been pushing a narrative that the igbos marginalised the oil producing state under the defunct old eastern region. So it's was actually the west that marginalised the midwest, we are learning, the truth will be made open one day and all this fairytales of igbos hating the people of niger delta will be led to rest with facts that will be glaring to all. As an Igbo, you shouldn't care about Minorities hating or liking you. You should care more about being aware of their (minorities) schemes that could be injurious to Ndiigbo and not looking for brotherhood where none exists. |

Additionally, most traditional Igbo societies were Republican and democratic and not monarchical, so unless you are from places like Onitsha and Agbor, whose monarchs were not even real Kings as lands still belong to Umunnas and not to the King, then I don't understand where and how celebrating Ofalas became a part of Ancient Igbo culture. |

donjazet: Jesus Christ, this man just went to post Wikipedia page on African cultures.
Roland I'm truly disappointed that you can't see the picture as a whole.
African culture doesn't exist because we aren't a monolith. We don't have one culture, we have a multitude.
And the truth is that, our culture is already as dead as can be. If you are a Christian or moslem, know that you are spitting on your culture, many of us and most likely our children won't get to officially learn our native languages in school. As I speak to you. Only the 3 major languages in Nigeria are taught in schools. What of minority tribes like ijaw, ogoni, urobo, anan, eket, Ibibio and many other smaller tribes. The local languages are already dying everyday. Children of all these aforementioned tribes are learning and utilizing English.
Let me go further into detail as to how my own Igbo culture is already dead. Growing up in my grandfather's days, their greatest festive days, were the ofala day, the new yam festival to mark the beginning of a farming season and the coronation of a king. Our great grand father's worshipped and revered their gods. Amadioha, oshimiri, ijele, Ani and chukwu. Only the last god was coopted by the religion to enable an easier conversion process.
Forget all these "traditional attires" you see today as our culture. . My great grand father's people went mostly butt naked. They knew absolutely nothing of silk, cotton, wool etc that are being used as traditional dresses today which ironically was introduced to them by their colonizers and trade partners. They mostly went butt naked, with the women's breast enjoying fresh air every single day. Those nipples standing firm for all to see, waiting to be suckled. Occasionally covering their private parts with the skin of animals they've hunted in the bush.
The only thing that still shapes the Igbo cultural identity today is just the language and some cuisine. Even at that, those too are dying. Many igbos eat mostly cooked rice and enjoy beans as part of their daily meals. These were foreign to us. Nobody in igboland grew rice or beans.
I could go on and on, as to how our cultures are on their last breath but I would stop here. Please the bold is not true. Stop watching too many Nollywood movies and making your impression of Igboland from that. In Ancient Igboland, we made beautiful clothes and wore them in cold conditions or some festivals. Of course we lived in hot rainforest, so most times we wore few clothes because of heat. Google Akwete cloth weaving centres for a start. |

You must understand these Europeans have little understanding of the African peculiarities. An African can live at a place for years and still not be regarded as an indigene but a settler. Those Igbo slaves describes as "Bonny people" by Europeans would have been called settlers by an African writer.
I hope you understand now? Here is Baike! And by the way, every ethnic group in old Eastern region were sold as Slaves, Ijaws inclusive. Bonny Igbo kings sold Ijaw slaves as well. Ijaws just didn't have enough population to sustain slave trade, which is why there was greater emphasis on the more populous Igbos and Ibibiod tribes. Many times Ijaws claim that Igbo Language in Bonny and Opobo came from Slave trade. When that doesn't work, they claim it came through marrying Igbo women.
But Glynn work has shown that Ibani-Ijaw came to Bonny through Igbo Aboriginals marrying Ijoid women! So you see, Ijaws ( through Alagoa)turned history on its head. It wasn't Ibani-Ijaw that was endangered language in Bonny and Opobo, it was original Igbo language of Bonny and Opobo ancestors that was endangered in Bonny and Opobo because the Igbo founders were marrying Ijoid women who were teaching their children Ijoid language. My hypothesis is that Igbo Language of Bonny nearly went into extinction but was saved by the coming of slave trade, which meant that Igbo Slaves flooded the Island and helped the endangered Igbo language of the Igbo Aboriginals survive.
In contrast, the original Efik language of the New Calabar (Kalabari) died and couldn't be revived and was replaced with the current Ijoid language they call Kalabari language, probably introduced by Ijoid women. And it's not a coincidence that the so called Ibani-Ijaw language that survived in rural parts of Opobo and Bonny was also same as those of Kalabari language. The so called Ibani-Ijaw language is just Kalabari language. |

No doubt, there were Igbo slaves in Bonny, and till date their children claim Bonny.
The crux of the matter is who settled there first before the influx of Igbo slaves.
Please give me something before 1508.I am tired of the disjointed things you are showing me. You haven't provided just one Colonial document that says that Ejos were Aboriginals in Bonny. Not one! If this goes to an international Court, Ndiigbo will provide three independent sources in Captain Crow, Balfour Baike and Leonard Glynn, all pinning the origin of Bonny Aboriginals to Igboland! Bonny (Igbo slaves) people were of Igbo origin, coming as the first did into Ijo country.... And having no women they intermarried with the Ijo inhabitants.
That's what that highlighted statement means.
Read and understand.
Bonny was mostly peopled by Igbo slaves,at a point out numbering the Ijo Aborigines.Hence the reason for the confusion almost some Europeans Ijo country in this sense meant Ijaw terrain, which the Niger Delta was, swampy area. The Igbo were originally a rainforest dwelling people. The Ijaws were originally a swamp dwelling people from Sobou country side. The Bonny spoken by Glynn were Aboriginals, see for yourself! You are the one speaking of slaves. Not Glynn Bonny though a riverine terrain, was uninhibited when the first Igbo ancestor arrived there through the Azumini Creek. The Ijaws would later arrived from their Kolokuma homeland later.

JANK23H: No where in that writeup did Pepple tell him Bonny are Igbos. The writer simply gave his own verdict.A thorough read should tell you he was mixing everything up.
First, they are Igbos, still they speak a language similar to the language spoken at new Calabar.A disjointed addition of Oru(Ijo). Then a mention of Okulo(Ijo name for the Curlew bird) and it's nexus to the name and history of Okuloma.
That's the rubbish you people have been holding onto?
Totally disjointed. One sentence an Ijo connection, another a supposed Igbo ancestry.
Next please... A people can lose their language to neighbors if they are completely surrounded by such neighbors and separated from their original stock, but vestiges of their original language will remain. We know for a fact that New Calabar were descendants of old Calabar, who mixed with Ijoids and Igboids and lost their Ibibiod language to Ijoid one! If someone said that Kalabari were decendend from Efiks but spoke an Ijoid language, the person wouldn't be wrong. Igbide people came from Mgbidi in Imo and Awka in Anambra, migrated into the Isoko land, completely cut off from Anioma and are unsurprisingly today non Igbo speaking people. Only thing that remains is history of migration from Igboland and some Igbo cultures, but the people remain proud Isokos and Igbos understand that they are nolonger Igbo as they have switched language! You are the one in pains because available records doesn't favor your agenda. You like Baike record of Ijoid language in Bonny, but you don't want to accept his documentation that Bonny descended from Igboland. I'm sorry, you can't pick and choose at will. You either accept Baike report or reject it. Either way, Baike wasn't alone in pinning Bonny Origin to Igboland! Glynn and Captain Crow (that you all have come to hate because his book punctured holes in your Fabrications) did same as well. The three independent sources agreed on Igbo Origin of Bonny! Not one independent source have linked Bonny origin to Ejo! Not one, all you are stuck on is the language, which currently doesn't favor you as well, as Bonny main town and Opobo all speak Igbo as mother tongue. |

JANK23H: That's exactly what you are doing with Bonny. Bonny after the influx of Igbo slaves.
Besides the New Calabar River and Bonny Rivers are not close to Efik Bonny ancestors were Igbo. Infact, Glynn suggested that Ijoid language got upper hand in Bonny at one point, because Bonny Igbo ancestors were marrying Ijoid women which nearly took their Original Igbo language into extinction. See for yourself! It would appear that the influx of Igbo slaves into Bonny forced the Bonny Igbos to revive their dying Igbo language. According to Glynn, all evidence proves Bonny natives to be of Igbo origin! Baike thought same as well after interviewing the king of Bonny , King Pepple himself! Captain Crow gave same opinion! "Through the mouth of two or three witnesses, a matter is established!" ~ 2 Corinthians 13:1

Anonymous15: Do you see the bolded statement of you, isn't it you who was asking for colonial people linking Bonny to ijo a while ago?
Isn't it you claiming sierraleone freed slaves were ibos but that was trashed by a screenshot of Sigismund Koelle on his book 'polyglotta Africana'
But when documents where provided You danced out again to Language Currently spoken without knowing that is your final headstone. Now go to sleep loser. Wikipedia edited pages. We will soon edit it too. Bonny main town speaks Igbo which is why your Ijaw chief Fraudster masquerading as historian has been running around holding events to surplant Igbo language of Bonny. I asked for historical document showing that Indigenes of Bonny considered Ejo men as their ancestors and not Igboland. You have not provided any. See example below from Leonard Glynn linking Bonny to Eboes!

JANK23H: Crow documents are useless and have been trashed not old.
I want you to take us back beyond 1508 and tell us something different from what i gave you.
Yes ..The Rio Real is at Bonny. An account that mentioned Bonny and was in Bonny is useless. But the one that wasn't in Bonny and never mentioned Bonny is useful. Does it get more desperate than this? Who thrashed Crow? Let me guess, Ijaw Fraudsters led by Alagoa? Did the person thrash Baike and Glynn too? Because you know that both point blank said that Bonny ancestors originated from Igboland. |

JANK23H: Because there was no name as Bonny.Besides he named villages or settlements according to their inhabitants.Benin was the only exception.
The location of villages were described by latitudes, landmarks and rivers. You have no point. If that's a problem, then bring more current Colonial document that mentioned Bonny and wrote on their Origin. In steps Crow, Baike and Glynn. And for all we know, all three are United in the claim that Bonny ancestors originated from Igboland. Which is why you are avoiding them and relying in an ambiguous account that never mentioned Bonny! |
