I don't see anything wrong here. Take my own dialect (still in Anambra, to show that it is not a state something) for example, we use "Ihe" but right now I have siblings bearing "Ife"
It is funny because we have an old generation "Iheoma" with a new generation "Ifeanyi" in the same family.
Funny
True.
Anambra South is evolving and merging with Anambra Central and North in terms of words.

Yes... 100%. Just like people from those areas would say, "Ifu" (Face) instead of Ihu or Iru.
Interesting.
What do they call "plant germination" in that dialect.
I want to check something.

That's all languages. Look at English for instance too...

Funny enough, a few days ago, I was listened to some old village rendition from Agulu, recorded around 1911 by Northcorte.... It will be interesting to have someone from Agulu examine how the dialect have changed. Although 1911 is just about 110 years ago though. Some of us must have witnessed great-grandfathers speak.
My grandfather when we were small during Xmas when my cousins all come back for Xmas and we play and make noise laughing loud and merrying would usually leave his room and come to ours and peep in and say: "Kee Ife unu na-ekpolili ufala ka unu ewinugo poolu".
This expression means "why are you people rejoicing like you have won a bet".

I don't think any young person in my place will make that expression that way in modern times.
They would probably say: "Kedu Ife unu enwelu añuli ka unu enwinugo Visa Amerika"

This is language evolution.

"Uhu", "Ufu" is still very much alive in some places in Abia state, I believe.

In Old Bende, (Bende, Ohafia and Arochukwu LGAs) the word, "Ufu" features well in their everyday language..... "Ufu", home (ancestral home/father's home) is used as the opposite of "Mba" or "Uzo Ije" in some cases.

People who live permanently in the ancestral village/town are called, "Ndi Ufu" by "Ndi Uzo Ije".

Sometimes, "Ufu" is also used as the opposite of "Ama"... Ufu is where the homes/houses are located, while "Ama" is the village square.

@slayerforever... in Abia state for instance there are villages called Akoli-ufu, Okpo-ufu (Okpufu).
Interesting.
So "Ufu" is a dialectical variance of "Uru" and "Uhu" ?

It may not be at the scale you are talking of. But nonetheless as this happens many less used words from the individual dialects are gradually lost.
Yes. Many words and expressions are being dropped to fit into pan Igboism. It irks purists like OdenigboAroli who gets angry that in Idemili we are now seeing children bearing names like "Chizaram" instead of "Chizalum", "Chinaemerem" instead of "Chinaemelum" etc.
He forgot that down south in Imo and Abia people are now giving their children names like Ifeanyi, Ifeoma, Ifenyinwa, instead of Iheanyi, Iheoma and Ihenyinwa. cool

Now that I think of it.
I remember that once I was in Isuikwuato, I noticed the people used Uru on regular basis in place of Uno/Ulo.

You hear things like: Laa la Uhu, chi ejiela!
Meaning go home , it is late.

The bible said it. Ecclesiastes 10:16 "Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child"
He was raised in a foreign palace ( Bini palace), so they naturally robbed their Igbophobia on him.
He said he was going to walk out of his palace, any of his chiefs that presented to his Palace on Igbo red cap in the future.

Notice he has nothing to say about Bini names in Agbor, his main concern were Igbo and Ika names. Lol!

I mean examples of words still bearing uru/uhu for house/home.
You see them in names of towns and villages within a town throughout Igbo land.

And you will notice they are usually used in place of Uno/Ulo.

Like you have Uru-ala close to Nnewi in Imo state. Literally it means homestead that is in a flat/ low topography, as against one in a hilly one.
In Nnewi proper, you have Uru-agu. Meaning Homestead built in an Agu( thick forest).

In Ogidi one of the Nine villages that make up the town is called "Uru", so you have places like "Uru-Orji" , meaning a homestead build by an Orji tree.
We have "Uru-Ezealo" meaning homestead of of Ezearo.

In Nnewe Enugu (Aninri LGA), they have a village called "Uhueze". The founder of the village was probably named "Eze".

Uhu/Uru is attached to up to hundred villages and towns all over Igboland.

tnx. This is very insightful. We call them "ndi mba mmiri" in my place.
Yes. That's a post colonial Igbo word for them.

In precolonial Igbo era, they were called Olu/Oru.
Ask any old person in your village, they will confirm that for you.
Language is a living thing and is continuously evolving.
Check out how Uno/Ulo/Uyo/Oro depending on your dialect, has displaced the more ancient Igbo word for homestead "Uru/Uhu", from our daily usage.
Uhu/uru are only preserved in the names of our towns and villages. Hardly do any Igbo dialect use it in every day conversation these days.
Language evolution caught up with it.

I told you this a 1000 times, Some Agbor people can cut your head if you say they are speaking, "Ika".. and true, in reality their dialect is significantly different from the others... In fact, all of them speak a significantly different dialect.
Agbor people believe they are the head of that area and Ika means, "Integrated kingdom of Agbor". They believe the rest to be mere subjects but not the same as them. This is however, when it is convenient and not in politics.

As for Ndoni, they are just same people as Oguta.
Agbor people hate the IKA tag.
They see it as British plot to diminish Agbor influence over the rest of the clans in the place we call IKa today.

They see the rest of Ika as their descendants and indirectly their subjects.

Notice that when Dein of Agbor recently issued a communique on preservation of Agbor heritage.
While many were busy obsessed with his statement that Agbor people should give their people more Agbor names and should avoid Igbo names, he also said they should avoid "Ika" names.
But as expected, only the Igbo part of that statement made news.

I can tell you that most Igbos call other Igbos, "Ndi Igbo", many just dropped this habit less than 70 years ago, while others continued to this day.
The Izza-Ezza and Ngbo in Ebonyi state and many other groups refer to Igbos from other states as, "Onye/Ndi Igbo"... when discussing amongst themselves but Igbo when talking to "Non-Igbos"...

it's like some sibling who will refer to their mother as "mama (insert siblings name)" as if the subject is not their own mother too.

my wife is an ogbaru woman. Her people call us from hinterland 'ndi igbo'. I wonder why.
The ancient Igbos classified themselves into two.
1. The Igbos (meaning the land/forest dwellers)
2. The Olu/Oru( meaning the riverine dwellers).

Ndoni, Ogbaru, Ndioshimili, communities in Anambra West along Anambra river, Oguta, etc that all dwelled in riverine areas were called Olu/Oru, while they in turn called us who dwelled on the land, "Igbo".

Consider Olu/Oru as ancient Igbo term for "Mbammili" which is our modern term for it.

When the ancient Igbo speaks of the World, they say: "Olu na Igbo", meaning the waters and the land. That's the Igbo world as they knew it.
So you hear words like: "Olu na Igbo bu ofu", etc.
It doesn't mean that Olu are different from Igbo, it's just a distinction we make within ourselves to describe our geographical location and topography.
When an Olu finds himself outside Igbo speaking sphere, he will still identify as Igbo. But within the Igbo speaking realm, he doesn't want to be Igbo, he wants to be Olu.

AGBOR IS NOT IKA
NOVEMBER 29, 2020 UCHE MITI
– BASIL OKOH

Only a bastard answers to a name given him by strangers. He has no father to give him a name and so takes the name given him by strangers.Agbor has a name “Agbon” (The World), given, according to our mythology, by God Himself. For more than 4,700 years of continuous history and habitation of our land, we have borne that name in our community and wherever we go. Agbor is the name of our land and the language we speak.

Ika” is not the name or pseudonym of Agbor people. “Ika” is a name given by a renegade British Colonial Officer in 1936 to the vassals of Agbor kingdom, to spite the reigning king Agborbu of Agbor after an altercation. The name “Ika” was given to divide a once united people in the old Agbor Kingdom and whittle down the power and Majesty of their king.Ika is the name given to those vassal communities to create an identity for them different from Agbor. Ika was never meant to identify or describe the people of Agbor who already had a name and an indisputable identity.

Ika is the name given by a stranger and has no history or meaning in Agbor language and traditions.

No Agbor person alive was ever told by his parents that he is an “Ika” person. Ika is not a word with any meaning in our language or was it ever used in Agbor lore’s.

Anybody writing the history of our people and using the words “Ika History” is engaging in Fabrications and fraud. No place in that neighborhood was ever known as Ika before 1936, less than ninety years ago.

Agbor history goes far beyond 2700 BC and by implication beyond the present Dein dynasty. Dein dynasty since 1270 AD is the third dynasty in Agbor history and so far, the shortest.

Anybody involved in the promotion of “Ika” in Agbor is engaging in chicanery and deception for political gain. No Agbor person ever introduces himself as Ika. It is demeaning.

Our Local Government is named by the Nigerian Government as Ika South. We did not name the Local Government. We are Agbor people in Ika South Local Government Area. Nothing more.Agbor ni’Igidi oken ali.

There is no clan called Ndokwa. Ndokwa is an artificial creation gotten by combining Ndioshimili and Ukwuani.
The Ndoni are Olu people which includes Ndioshimili (Ndokwa East in Delta State), Ogbaru LGA in Anambra, and Oguta people in Imo state.
The Ogbaru are proud Igbos, the Ndoni don't deny Igbo but retain their distinct Ndoni entity for Rivers State politics sake, the Ndokwa East on the other hand are in a bit of identity crisis, though not as bad as Ukwuani and Ndokwa West.

Firstly, LOL @ Chukwu aju! cheesy cheesy grin

Bros, you talk as if I'm asking for political UNION with the so called "minorities".
NO. Hell NO.
I am asking for political INFLUENCE with and over them, and even others.
Believe me, we can influence them if we understand our strength in numbers and RESOURCES.
We can influence them to give us ANYTHING we want.
That is really all that the Fulani has been doing since the British handed power to them in 1960.
We can do it better than them! cool
To relate with minorities.
We have to show them that they are really not important to us, and we do this by showing capacity to grow and be an Economic giant without their help whatsoever.
It will humble them and they would be the one rushing for alliance and Economic deals for mutual benefits with us.

That's how we solve this conundrum.
We must be willing to go at it full throttle without any corporation or help whatsoever from them and succeed, and then we can now even do better with their corporation in the future when they see how irrelevant they are to our success and come to table for mutually beneficial agreements with them.

If you start off your republic of Igboland by planning your future success on Benue food and Eastern minorities corporation like both of you are doing here, you are only planning to fail.
It's actually senseless.

That's my point

onumadu:
Your strategies are always mostly POLITICAL, and that is where people like you make grievous mistake.

You need both political and MILITARY strategy knitted together to even survive talkless of thriving as a nation.
If the Fulani work with all your "minority" neighbors of Igbo as they have cleverly done over the years, you stand no chance of controlling even your own land. As painful as this truth is, that is still the truth!

How come you latter day Igbo can't even rise above the accomplishments of people like Zik who built influence all the areas necessary even up to Kanu (during Abubakar Rimi's governorship)?
Go back into history, and you would see that NCNC controlled all the "minority" areas effortlessly?
How did Zik do that?

Igbo fall started with the coup on Jan 1966 and subsequent failure of succeeding Igbo leaders to "build back better".
People like Arthur Nzeribe did try though with his Eastern Mandate Union, but he was not really understood by fellow Igbo.

In politics and military (keeping in mind that military ultimately decides politics), the best form of defense is offense!

An "Igbo republic" where all neighbors are either direct enemy or effectively under enemy control, can only end in miserable loss and defeat for Igbo.

BTW, Igbo is a nation of at least 60 million people! Why do we have less influence than Fulani of about 7 million people?
That 60 million would be useless if we keep quarantining in Igboland, sniveling around trying not to confront the Fulani, essentially trying to play game of "who will betray who most".

Why must we quarantine ourselves in Igboland, lamenting that everybody hates us?

Answer: It is a mind thing.
Bro.
If Zik and co did a good job. There wouldn't have been a Biafra war.
Let's get that straight. They all failed us.

You are living in a past that has proved to be a failure. You have refused to move on, which is why you are reminiscing on good old days of Zik who failed himself and generations of Igbos unborn. Zik couldn't even keep Southern Cameroon( Bamenda Province) in the East. I wouldn't like to wash dirty linens outside, but many of you Zik acolytes in Igboland are pushing our buttons too hard, so we might as well swallow the shame and start washing that faeces stained linen outside now.

Let's make one thing clear, Eastern region was a creation of the British and not Zik. Infact the creation of Eastern region was the beginning of balkanization of Igboland, because it was then that Western Igboland that you know as Delta North today was separated from us and added to newly created Western region.
You Zik couldn't do anything about it.
Idah province that use to be part of Nsukka was also added to the North. Your useless Zik couldn't do anything about it too.
If Ndiigbo reigned supreme in Eastern region, it wasn't because of Zik sagacity, but because of our sheer population. We outnumbered the Minorities by 2:3. It's a bit like Igalas control the politics of modern Kogi or Tiv in Benue.
It's just a game of numbers.

So let's just die the Zik talk. He was nothing but a failure. The legacy of a leader is felt more on where he left the descendants before he died and where the people are when he died.

Now Eastern region is gone, and modern Igbo must evolve and accept our modern realities.

The Minorities cannot constitute themselves enemies to republic of Igboland, it would be suicide mission on their own part. Israel for one are not bothered by being surrounded by hostile Arab nations, while should Ndiigbo be?
Why do you lots take pleasure in belittling us?

There is no forming unity with a people who see you as enemies and potential Invaders.
We can't be in any country or Political union with Minorities. Chukwu aju! We will remain neighbors with them however, and it is more to their benefits than to ours that they maintain peace between our country and theirs.
They should be more scared of being enemies to Republic of Igboland and not the other way around. We can withstand their aggression with wounds here and there, but they will be annihilated by ours.

If you assume that we do away with prioritising relationship with minorities then we need powerful industrialisation, for instance in the event that we go to war, we need raw food materials from Benue for instance a relationship with them don't really mean building a country with them, it means if we have to buy their raw food then they should buy so and so volume of our finished goods otherwise our raw food can come from core North or West,

That's the impact of working together with them to secure their market from China if we have agreements that they must buy so and so volume of Aba made then we would as well buy their food and other materials and then train their intelligence and supplying them protective equipments like bullet proof vehicles and all the rest this is where the need comes, otherwise China, or even Europe or American can take these potential markets from us, no real competition from Africa in the distance future.
Bro.
We have enough land in the East to farm. Israel is living in small desert land and are supplying the world with food.

Why patronise Benue for food when you can industrialize food industry in South East and earn big forex as well as create employment for Igbo youths.

There is how we can maximize Space for agriculture in SE.
One of it is by turning the current 5 capitals to mega cities by building super residential skyscrapers powered by elevators. We have enough gas to do That. With Republic of Igboland we will use our abundant gas and coal to solve power issue and we still have crude oil. Sunshine is high in all over SE for Solar panels and the EnuguUdi -Okigwe- Awka mountain range will serve as good location for Wind turbines installation to harness the Energy from the Wind.

Then have another 5 or six smaller cities with same residential skyscrapers.
Entice 90% of the rural dwellers to move into those city apartments and convert our current rural areas and villages to massive highly mechanized farmlands.

Countries like Netherlands are smaller than Igboland yet are agricultural Giants feeding the world. Modern agriculture has gone beyond just land space and mass. It's all about technology, science and Government dedicated intervention to assist the industry.

Stop looking up to minorities for anything, stop giving them the powers they don't need to have over us. Land is only one factor of production out of 5! Nigeria has Benue and minorities and still import food because the other 4 factors outweigh land!

We are complete as we are! No buts, no ifs. Emancipate yourselves Ndiigbo.

I would disagree a bit on the impact of less populated people, we need them up to a point but if they must stay under our protection umbrella, they must pay the price, if you look at the UK today, you saw how England gathered the less populated nation and built the UK into a onetime most powerful nation on Earth

We need minorities for a stronger and a more stable border but these things needs to be spelled out properly so that if they go out of agreement then each interests override, we need these less populated nations like Efik, Ibibio, Igala, Benue should be on the least but we are not stupid, and we are not walking ourselves into a warzone

About the Militia you spoke about, I'm not quite in support of armed militias becuase it is easy to run into illegality with those when it comes to legal weapons and illegal weapons, I'm more in support of reviving Ojukwus RAP
We don't need those minorities for anything.
I have studied them all closely by being a member of their Facebook pages and even visiting their towns to make investigations myself. The earlier some of you snap out of the misguided fantasies of building any thing tangible with minorities in North Central and South South, the faster we start making concrete steps and progress in achieving Republic of Igboland independence.

UK is not really a good example to cite. You saw how Ireland fought for years to leave UK and Scotland though have chosen a less violent means are doing same. It was manageable when UK was raiding the whole world to bring home the goods. But once the empire started dwindling, all man wanted out.

I desire a homogeneous Alaigbo republic. Like Japan.
Homogeneous entities are better managed and have more chances of being successful and impenetrable to outside influences in this era when empire building is no longer acceptable.

On the Militia, did you not hear from Miyetti Allah spokesman confirm that the three red dragon militia from the land of the rising sun have chased them out from SE for now atleast? Where did you think they ran to? Northern Cross River and Benue.

Now that's our bargaining chip. We fund the red dragon to maintain the boundary. Then we watch the Minorities Battle it out with Fulanis.
We play the patience game and look out for which of them approaches us first for help.
Any that approaches and make offer, we tell the other about the other approach and what they are offering and ask them if they can offer more.

The choice will be to team up with Minorities in Cross River to push Fulani back or to accept Fulani juicy offer to stay off the issue in exchange for concrete concessions and promise to stay off SE as well as boundary adjustment to return our lost territories to the Minorities. Of course you know they wouldn't keep the promise of staying off SE forever, once they are done with the Minorities, they would be coming for you, so you do well to ensure their fight with Minorities last forever by playing some underhand tactics.

This is how I want the modern Igbo to be thinking.
So stone cold Ruthless interest driven politics, and not some stupid emotional and sentimental things like: " Benue are Christians and Fulani are Muslims, there is islamization going on, let's rush and side Benue Christians" and some other stupid things some modern Igbos parrot about before choosing sides in issues of importance.

There is nothing to gain from all these minorities.
Nothing.
Ndiigbo have to learn that lesson fast and hard.

We have to learn to stay neutral in any issue involving these minorities and use their penury when possible to further our own interests.
We simply have to learn to be more ruthless and strictly Igbo interests protection and advancement driven, irrespective of what group gets annihilated in the process.

In summary. What FULANI is doing in Benue is non of Igbo business. Our business is how to play a good politics to effect boundary adjustment between Ebonyi and Benue that would result in all those Izzi and Ezza communities trapped in Benue returned to Ebonyi state, and thereafter fully fund our already formed *three dragon militia" to make sure Miyetti Allah that have been chased off SE , remain contained in BENUE and not cross over into SE from Benue/Enugu and Benue/Ebonyi borders.

This is how a wise people should behave.

If we play our politics well, we can even negotiate with Miyetti not to interfere in their issue with Benue, if they stay off Northern Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra forever and not encroach as well as help us recover those Izzi and Ezza communities trapped in Benue.

This is what I call pragmatic leadership, politics and negotiation driven by interests and not sentiments.
And you can only get this by playing the neutral card, keeping all your cards close to your chest and all your options open, by not rushing to pick any side in any face-off between two non Igbo groups or zones in Nigeria, after securing your own patch.

Such that the Benue Minorities will be co
ming to you to plead for help to push off Fulanis, while FULANIS will be coming to you to offer you incentives to stay off the squabble.
You then weight both options and choose the one that serve Ndiigbo most, not minding the plight of Benue people.

But if you're foolish enough to want a civil war in this era of massive firepower I can only wish you the best if you think the death toll witnessed in the first civil war was large you won't be ready for this one i'm talking 20-30 million dead people lining the streets of Igbo land don't be a fool

The smartest thing we can do is find the right parties and support the right candidates into power and make sure they bring in the right reforms needed for Nigeria to prosper
NIGERIA and prosperity cannot be in the same sentence.
Even your Political rulers Know it, which is why they are all sending their children abroad.

NIGERIA is a dead end.

I'll try a short illustration to drive my point.
Where is the seat of Fulani power in Nigeria? You'd agree it is Sokoto, right?
But Fulani MUSLIMS are telling CHRISTIANS how to run their states in farthest reaches of Southern Nigeria!
In fact, a Christian governor is currently doing more "Fulanisation" in his state than the Fulani can ever dream of.
How do they do that? By quarantining in Sokoto? lol
No of course.
I honestly don't want to say more on this, but pls use your tongue to count your teeth.
You are the one that is not using your tongue to count your teeth.

Mind your Igbo business and let other non Igbo tribes be.
Which Kain busy body be this? Who made you Voltron the defender of universe?

You rush and join Ortom and Benue to fight your imaginary Fulanis enemies uninvited.
Ortom and his people will turn around tomorrow and settle with Fulanis on top of your head. You become a collateral damage and you start crying "betrayal" like an overgrown baby elephant all over the place.

What is wrong with you guys? Energy is not unlimited, a wise people know how to conserve their energy and use it when necessary. Fools go about exhausting energy and leaving themselves powerless and defenseless.

That's not it, they only remember us when it is time to take the bullets, look anyone that did not fight with our fathers in Biafra or anyone that had denied us in recent time let it stay that way, it must be diplomatic, the question is, what are we getting in return, did you see me request crude oil from Benue, No, just some tones of food and we shall clear your lands of terrorists for good.

There is no need building bridges if the bridges is only used when we are likely going to be endangered, the Igbo nation got every damn thing we need as a nation so anyone who thinks our alliance is worth should answer the question what do we get in return,

The question, would Benue or anyone take the bullet for us, as a matter of fact as far as we are not fighting the FG, we are good in Nigeria, any single nation should bring their madness on, so others needs us more than we need them and they should make clear the terms of any Alliance.
Well put.
Thank you.
Ortom and Benue people never called for Igbo support.
Ndiigbo have alot on our own plates to solve.
Meddling into Benue issue uninvited is folly and foolishness.

We have to learn to play neutral game in Nigeria.
Just "masterly inactivity", stay off the line of action and watch proceedings for crying out loud.

It is totally wrong for a public figure like himself to align or identify with a proscribed group whose recent violent activities have been condemned even by their own people. Its just wrong
Guardiola is a super star manager, yet identifies himself constantly with his Catalonia people secessionist movement back home.
Likewise Gerrard Pique of Barcelona.

Men of substance stand with their people aspirations, especially when such aspirations are just and right.

He took up the Hausa name,Mainasara incase you forgot that.
Go claim the Ijaw areas physical.
Then we know.
Nobody knows the Mainasara.
See what those on ground are saying about Ogbia, Epie Atissa and other independent ethnic groups in Bayelsa.

He said: “The claims that Bayelsa is a homogenous state is far from the truth because the state has the Urhobos, Isokos, Nembe, Ogbia,Epie Attisa and many other ethnic groups as Bayelsa State indigenes".
