Efewestern:
The federal troops also carried out those crimes in Agbor, do you also want to accuse Bini of this? When the federal troops came in, there was little or nothing the locals could do, were you expecting them to engage a fully armed troops from the federal angle? Even the Ogbemudie that led the Bini guerilla tigers also had Anioma link, so how could Bini commit such a crime against one of their own?

NCNC's involvement in the Creation of midWest region was to weaken the then AG, it was a give and take situation between the minorities in the western region and the NCNC group in the eastern region.

The division was only possible because of the total compliance of all ethnic groups, but in the case of the 1967 event, the minorities wanted non of that and it was arrogant to impose a leader on them. It had nothing to do with the origin of Okonkwo. During the Midwest invasion, some positions were allotted to some minorities, but that didn't change the perception of the minorities who saw it as an attempt to subdue and coerce them into an indirect rule of the eastern region.

It was simply interest clashing and sadly, nothing has changed till this very moment.

The Bini empire is long gone and dead, no Delta group in modern age will let an Oba rule over them. Like I've hinted, Bini is fast losing its grip on these non-edoid group in Delta state.

It's not business as usual.
That's the problem with you minorities.
Every single help Igbos render you lots is never appreciated or taken at face value, it's usually twisted to sell your Igbophobic Agenda.
Even as we speak, Ijaws are already saying that Igbo support of GEJ was not about supporting SS but more about Igbo hate for Buhari and what Igbos gained from GEJ.
When I asked them for GEJ projects in SE, they couldn't mention any.
In comparison, for two times Zik competed for presidency in 1979 and 1983. He never got up to 10% of votes from minorities, even Awolowo got more from Old Rivers, old Cross River and Bendel States than Zik did. And no one needs any soothsayer to know that if an Igbo presidential candidate emerge today, he will still get same Zik treatment from minorities.
It goes without saying that the Igbo MUST re-evaluate the way and manner we relate with southern minorities.

Back to the Midwest referendum. Eastern region threw weight behind it mainly because of Anioma people led by Dennis Osadebey who were staunch NCNC members and were pushing for it.
There was Okotie too who was in NCNC and was pushing for it as well.
Weakening Western region was an added incentive but not the main driving Force.
It's always been this way with you lots.

So it's not the North imposing rulers on Anioma people when they watched Osadebey who was rightful democratic ruler of the region deposed for Ejoor a military imposition?
Did the non Igbos resent Ejoor imposition as Northern imposition?
They didn't because it doesn't matter who was imposing who, they were more interested in who was imposed.
That's the way I see it anyway.

BTW, I like the maturity in your replies. Thanks for that.

There is plenty that an educated person can use to fault the article. Whether figures mention Naira is not one of those things.
That is an irrelevance
Paul Anber's essay "Modernization and Political Disintegration: Nigeria and the Ibos" published in the journal of Modern African Studies vol. 5, No 2 (Sep, 1967) 163-179. See pp 171-172 for excerpt:

" '' A system of Universal primary education was introduced in Eastern Nigeria in 1953, though the mission schools had already prospered in the Region long before then. Despite the fact that there was a requirement for limited contributory fees, education continued to be very much in demand. Even at the time when universal primary education was first introduced, the percentage of the population over seven years of age who were literate was higher in the East than in any other Region: East, 10.6 per cent; West 9.5 percent; North, 0.9 percent. Since 1959, the East has had more teachers and pupils than any other area of the country, with the heaviest emphasis on primary education.

Figures for elementary and secondary education indicate that the approximate ratio of teachers to population in 1963 was 1 to every 1,500 in the East, 1 to every 2,500 in th West, and 1 for every 10,000 in the north. Other statistical data reveal how rapidly the standard of living rose among Ibos. The East had the most extensive hospital facilities in the country by 1965, the largest regional production of electricity in the country by 1954, and the greatest number of vehicle registrations by 1963. The economic orientation of the Ibos was also reflected through membership of credit associations:in 1963 the East had 68,220 individual members, the west 5,776, and the north a mere 2,407." ''... The article is some kind of historical study that obviously was published AFTER 1972 . Anyone who went to school can deduce that. I have not expressed any opinion on the content
So there is no profound smartness in pointing out that Naira came about in 1973.So what?

Guy you are an illiterate

You are not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, are you?

If you are citing a research done in a different era, do you change the figures? grin
We have all British colonial documents done in pounds, when citing their figures, do we try and convert the pounds to Naira?

Treachery is not your forte, or you have not yet graduated from the school as you are obviously amateur at it.

You can't be quoting a research done in 1964 and be quoting numbers in Naira.
It should be in pounds.

This is a lie sha. Bini never did any of such.

There was a distrust between the Non-igboid groups in Midwest and Ojukwu. It was near impossible for these guys to submit to a man who takes instruction directly from the east, what this means was that, Midwest will automatically become a vassal state of the East.

If you can keep emotions aside, you will know they did nothing wrong, humans will always fight for their interests and it was in the best interests of the Edoid groups to maintain their semi-sovereignty after receiving it hot from the then western region.

I don't even think Binis are interested in Anioma, they just want to maintain their cultural and historical links. Present reality on ground suggests these groups won't tag along with them, their best bet in Delta state remains the Urhobos, Isokos and maybe Itsekiri (but this is highly debateable, not with the recent Omoba crisis that saw the Itsekiris leaning towards their western ancestry).

If you can keep emotions aside, then I'm open for debate regarding the Midwest and its role in the 1960's
"After federal forces take over Benin, troops killed about 500 Igbo civilians after a house to house search with the aid of willing locals” (Washington Morning Post, 27 September, 1967)

“Federal troops killed or stood by while mobs killed more than 5000 Ibos in Warri, Sapele, Agbor (New York Times, 10th January, 1968)"

You are saying that the above quotes by international bodies, supported by eye witness a accounts of some Anioma people not yet infected with Bini Stockholm syndrome is a lie?

Nope. The problem Midwesterners of non Igbo origin had with Ojukwu had more to do with Ojukwu removing Ejoor and not replacing him with another non Igbo Midwesterner. They claimed Anioma people went about boasting to them that they are now in charge of the region after Okonkwo was appointed by Ojukwu, and they became filled with resentment towards Anioma people and Easterners.
I doubt they have problem with Igbo interference in their affairs afterall they had no problem when NCNC worked hard to pull them from Western region and in return made them the offer to accept Osadebey as the Premier or give up the capital City of the region. They happily Chose the capital City and was happy to concede the premiership to Igbos.
Midwest was not alien to Easterner interference. Their grouse this time was that they wanted to keep the capital and still keep the headship of the region under Ejoor, which Ojukwu altered.

And nope. Bini people are intent on ressurecting their Bini Empire and that involves annexing Anioma.
They are all over Anioma forums planting Igbophobic seeds in the people and looking to have them accept Midwest republic with Oba Bini as the ruler.

Yes, many of our people got theirs back, some got both their property and the rent the Hausas collected over the years for them. That was how they started from.
I don't know why people suppress this part of history. Even the part that many Hausas lost their lives while hiding Ndigbo in their wives quarters during the war. Once the youths find those igbos that were hidden, they kill the Hausa House owner.
Unlike the Yorubas that pointed out Ndigbo for the military to kill in Lagos. Even Achebe's Yoruba neighbours pointed him out as well
The Binis went house to House in Benin city pointing out Igbos in Bini who were mainly Anioma people, for Nigerian Army to massacre.

Recently a Bini man came to Enu-ani forum on Facebook to preach Midwestern republic, Enu-ani people there reminded him of how Bini Massacred them.

Secondarily, Binis led the revolt against appointment of Dr Okonkwo, an Anioma man as the military governor of the Midwest by Ojukwu after Biafran forces invaded the region.
They called Okonkwo an Igbo man and saw his appointment as Igbo domination.

But today,Edo people are telling us that Anioma people are now Bini people.

Only Hausa returned all Igbo properties.
Ojukwu even fought with Lagos government to reclaim some of his father's estate. The rest were converted to Lagos government property like old Rivers state did to Igbo owned hotels which are now state owned hotels in Rivers.
The only difference between Ikwerre and Yoruba style of taking over Igbo properties after the war is that many Yorubas did not support the government in their quest of converting Igbo properties to Government owned, some fought with the government over it but Ikwerre, both young and Old scrambled for the properties, Kanuri scrambled as well, especially former gardeners and gate men taking over mansions (they don't even hide this one in Maiduguri, ask anyone there)
Only Hausa did not take over the properties, they only burnt some houses and shops (those that the youths got hold of) but some even took care of the rent from some of the Igbo owned houses and handed the money to Ndigbo that returned after the war (ask about this)
Yes!
My grandfather got all his property in Bauchi back.
None was tampered with.
Hausas are great people. If only they didn't meet Fulanis who introduced Islam to them. They would have been the best ethnicity on this country to relate with.

It was the Hausas that the Biafrans Slaughtered at Cable Point in Asaba. when Biafra invaded the Midwest Region

Get your facts right.

From Gen alabi isama’s book “Tragedy of Victory “

“The Biafran troops
broke the barricade on Niger River bridge and
went straight to a place called “Ogbe Hausa” at the
cable point; where the Hausa community lived.
Biafran troops pounced on them and killed many of
them. The few that escaped were mowed down at
Onitsha end, the people jubilated.”
THE MASSACRE:

On 2nd of May 1968, Isheagu was murderously invaded by a contingent of the Hausa-Fulani cum Yoruba ethnic dominated Nigerian army, led by a young commissioned officer in the rank of a Lieutenant-Colonel, late Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, from the present day Edo State. He later became the first military governor of the old Mid-Western region in 1973 which transformed into Bendel from where Delta and Edo States of today were created. Late Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia retired as a Brigadier-General of the murderous Nigerian army. He led a detachment of the Nigerian troops from Asaba to Isheagu on what was termed "definitive intelligence report", linking Isheagu people as saboteurs.

The problem with Ikwerre is that they are not comfortable being Igbophobic alone, they try hard as possible to recruit other Igboids around them to be Igbophobic.
They have succeeded in doing this to Ekpeye, and they have made a very significant amount of inroads in Etcheland where they have corrupted the people mind and turn them to being Igbophobic using their control of Rivers State treasury as bait.
The modus Operandi is to marginalize and dehumanize any Igboid group in Rivers that have refused to accept Igbophobia, by denying them of dividends of democracy and leave them in pains until they start singing Igbophobic songs.

Many Igbos don't know why Wike has been so hard on Obiigbo people. The place lack any Government presence and the people have been severely punished by Wike for being Igbo, and for being accommodating to Igbos from SE.

In English it means: Are you an Ogidi person, an Igbo person or from non Igbo land?
It doesn't mean Ogidi is not Igbo, but we don't consider ourselves Igbo in front of other Igbos. We call ourselves Ogidi and call them Igbos.
This is repeated all over Igboland. If I'm in Obosi, the Obosi man would ask me, I bu onye Obosi ka I bu onye Igbo. Are you from Obosi or an Igbo. My answer would be, I am an Igbo. It doesn't mean Obosi is not Igbo. It's just the way the concept of Igbo nationalism works. You cannot be Igbo in your hometown. You are only Igbo when you leave your hometown.

I will tell you what I observed about my people as an Ikwerre man. I am reasoning that the first set of Igbo people the Ikwerre people met were either slaves or outcast.
Ikwerre people generally view Igbo people to be same till date. They call them Isoma. This is a derogatory name for anyone with no culture.
And that is why when you refer him to be an Igbo person he immediately interpret to mean an Isoma person who has no culture.
This disdain towards the Igbos is the cause of the Igbophobia.
They got married to them those days but use them mostly as farm hands.
If there was a Task none would accept to do they would look for añ Isoma person.
You can carry out a personal research on this as I am telling you the truth. I am Ikwerre but my grandma was Umuahia.
You might hear even some acclaimed Ikwerre saying they are Igbos. These people have parents that were originally Igbos and are discriminated in Ikwerre land.
During the Aro Confederacy many of them migrated to Ikwerre land. But at the beginning of the war some ran back others who couldn't because of inability to trace their homes were adopted and most times given a place to settle outside the main community.
Till date their descendants are still discriminated. They are usually the Ikwerre people who are vociferous to say Ikwerre is Igbo.
The most demeaning thing I notice you can do to an Ikwerre man is to call him an Igbo man or Isoma. You have indirectly called him a slave. It is not only Wike it is with all of us. Even those whose maternal home is Igbo immediately key into this obsession.
Lol!

Your people suffer from innate inferiority complex. You could never compete with other Igbo speaking clans, you were at the very bottom of the Igbo ladder and were looked upon as an inferior people by other Igbos. You were so low that the Aro were rulling you lots. Rather than work on yourselves to be able to measure up with other Igbo clans to be treated as equals, you decided to become a bitter Igbophobic people.

The discovery of crude oil and civil war opened a window of opportunity for you to unleash your generational bottled up hate against other Igbo clans. And that is what is happening now.
But I promise you, your era of stupidity is coming to an end. It took many Igbos to see you for who you are. Now that Igbos are waking up, you will receive it hot hot.
