Sorry freakcin for the misrepresentation. At first I stopped reading after the bolded. It was late and I needed to sleep. Just read it again this morning and discovered what i missed. No hard feelings right.

freakcin: This guy's being greedy. From the foregoing the woman aided him with 15K USD which he invested in the grocery store, and part of the proceeds was used to buy the lottery ticket, so what gives?

Common sense alone dictates he give the woman something not to talk of the child they both had and if he thinks he's smart, he should just watch for karma! lipsrsealed

Going by what is left of his monies, he might be in deep shit already except the money sent to his home country is wisely invested!

STUPID MAN! tongue

Are you serious? She gave him 15k she invested in the business, which means whatever proceeds that comes out directly from the business, they share. So if the man takes part of his proceed and buys the ticket, they should share that too? In my opinion, the woman has no legal right over the winning but mehn, the man should show love the the mother of his kid.

freecocoa: Okay update thingy, make people wey dey here dey speak english continue, as if anybody plucks money from trees that they should hand it out anyhow, ehen where was I?

So homegal came calling today, Boyfy came to meet her saying he loves her and still needs the money, truth is, he couldn't borrow from others cos they gave excuses bla bla bla and he doesn't want to go to the bank (interest issues and what not) the business he wants to invest the money in, is one of importing a container of electronics(there are others involved as well).

Their relationship is 5 months old, the dude is a teacher in a private secondary school(he's doing that but still on the lookout for something better, he has his Msc btw) and they don't live in the same cities.

Now she says she still maintains that he has to sign but he can forget about collateral, he is still forming "I don't believe you don't trust me" and says if she can't give him on trust levels then she should forget about it, my friend dey get double mind but I'm still telling her to stand her grounds.

P.S I didn't have all the details earlier(sorry).

Seriously I dey feel/pity the homeboy but mehn, the homeboy should sign the damn contract. He even got an Msc, he should know better. And to the girl, its not a good idea to give up on the collateral. Because the technicalities of what makes up a contract is, offer and acceptance. Here, the offer is the 400K and the acceptance is the collateral. Where there are no collateral, then he should accept to pay interest on the offer to serve as the acceptance and all should be within a stipulated period (date of payback). In the absence of either an offer or acceptance or pay back date, then there was no contract abinitio even if they signed anything. The money she gives her will pass as a goodwill money (dash money).

I guess we'll disagree on this one. smiley

Cool with me. Wondering whats wrong with your MY.

[s]At Freecoco, probably the girls love the homeboy and wouldnt want to lose because of this issue. Well there is a tricky way i think, will make him sign and acknowledge the contract. She issues him a check, behind she writes something like. (You know normally, when you issue checks in Nigeria, you write something like, the bearer is well known to me. Please pay with your signature). In this case, she issues him a check and write. The bearer is well known to me, he is borrowing the amount for so so and so reason, to pay back on so so and so dat. And then she sign. when he takes the check to the bank, before he is paid. The teller will ask him to write something. So so and amount was received by my, he writes his name, date and signature. Also, the teller will sign too. he signs it, means he accepts whatever is written on the check, the bank teller serves as the witness. In that case, a contract has been entered. [/s]

Abeg find out from a lawyer if such is admissible, just wrote that from my wild imagination.

Business / Re: NSE Migrates To NASDAQ Trading Platform, Now Fastest Trading Engine In Africa by IgweOO(m): 2:33pm On Nov 01, 2013
dokia:

http://smileandmobile.com/2013/10/15/nigerian-stock-exchange-migrates-to-nasdaq-omx-trading-platform-becomes-fastest-trading-system-in-africa/

The Nigerian Stock exchange (NSE) has come a long way in the last 10 years. The NSE was first launched in 1960 as the Lagos Stock exchange, and for the first 39 years of its existence the growth rate was at an abysmal crawl. In 1999, the stock exchange got a technological boost when they switched from open outcry to Automated Trading System (ATS). ATS is a system where dealers trade through a network of computers connected to a server. In open outcry, stocks are executed by traders yelling out orders in the stock exchange pit (Think Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd in Trading places).

This month the NSE made another huge technological leap, when they migrated to NASDAQ OMX X-Stream Trading platform. This is a huge step, and further enhances Nigeria’s goal to become Africa’s financial Capital. With this new multi asset trading platform, the NSE hopes to achieve a market capitalization of $1trillion. The system is also expected to be the fastest trading engine in Africa.

I worked on a trading desk in Nigeria back in 2007. I remember there were clear cases of arbitrage in the market. Brokers made money by calling banks to obtain bond quotes and then immediately reselling those bonds at massive spreads. Those type of opportunities are always present in any emerging market, where pricing information is limited. The fact that most of these gAps are closing, is evidence of Nigerias maturity in the market. With this migration to X-stream the NSE hopes to provide live stock prices which will bolster the available financial information for traders. There is also talks of adding an options and futures market. These steps should increase the players in the Nigerian financial markets and help more companies raise the funds necessary for growth. Of course with new complicated financial products comes the added problem of valuation and accounting shenanigans, but that story is for an entirely different blog entry smiley Check back with us in about a year, I am sure we will have a blog entry about how companies are hiding their derivative instrument losses! Financial history always repeats itself, even as the technology…………………………… stays mobile!

If this is true then you know transparency is gradually entering the market. Also, let them introduce short-selling, by the time traders start shorting/abandoning a particular stock, the lazy CEO of that company will learn to sit-up or be sacked by the board. On the other side, this will likely increase pump and dump but at least, the average joe like me and you will be able to monitor the market in real time with our 10k techno phone. So if those big heads starts dumping, we too will do the same.
Business / Re: Six Under Consideration To Replace Sanusi As CBN Governor by IgweOO(m): 9:50am On Oct 30, 2013
MAYOWAAK: The question that should influence the choice of Sanusi’s successor is this: at what cost have Sanusi’s successes been achieved, and were those costs avoidable? The costs that have attended Sanusi’s tenure in office have been many, and most of those costs were perfectly avoidable and extremely damaging, not only to the CBN itself but also to the wider Nigerian polity. He has politicised the office of the governor of the CBN far more than any other governor in the history of the organisation. He triggered a constant stream of attention grabbing controversies and created a cult of personality. Ironically for someone who claims to be a risk manager, he became the chief risk factor to the institution he heads by causing directly the numerous misguided attempts by some legislators and sundry other vested interests to revoke the statutory independence of the CBN. Without that independence, no central bank of a country can function effectively and will become just another government parastatal run or teleguided by politicians. Had this happened in Nigeria at this stage of our economic evolution, it would have been a terrible outcome, confirming our retrogression to the status of a banana republic. But we came close, and the threat has not completely dissipated, all thanks to our CBN Governor.

Lamido Sanusi gave the appearance of having a religious agenda in the manner in which he arrogantly and brazenly promoted Islamic banking, needlessly overheating the country’s domestic political space in a manner that suggests poor political judgment for someone in his position. Questions have been raised about the legitimacy and impartiality of some of his regulatory decisions because of his background as a banking industry operator and the partisan wars with some of his erstwhile colleagues in the banks, which he may have carried into his regulatory function and executed under that guise.

Many critics believe he had a personal agenda dressed up in elegant arguments and rhetoric, demonstrated in the sale and recapitalization of some of the troubled banks. And there have been questions also about the professionalism with which he has managed the CBN. He is believed to have imported political agendas into the management processes of the apex bank. He has evidently been unable to separate his personal and traditional ambitions in his native Kano from what is supposed to be a professional office of CBN Governor, and has in fact used what is a public office and public funds to pursue that ambition. Overall, Sanusi will be leaving behind a much weakened CBN than the one he met on his appointment to the post.

When we consider the lessons from Sanusi’s tumultuous era as CBN Governor, what kind of person should be appointed to replace him? Perhaps it is better to start with who should not be appointed. The next CBN Governor should not be a politician. Such a background automatically makes a partisan approach to the duties of the office likely. This would still be a bad idea regardless of whether or not the individual has been either a commercial banker or even a CBN staff in a previous career.

The next CBN Governor should not be a banking industry operator. To appoint a serving or former bank managing director would be a big mistake. The conflicts of interest in such a scenario are fundamental. Commercial bankers think mostly about making profit for their shareholders, and most have significant ownership interests in the banks they manage. As a regulator, a person with this kind of background may have difficulty balancing the many interests a central bank governor should consider and will likely promulgate regulatory policies that are pro banks at the expense of other important calculations. It is true that Sanusi has imposed a contribution by Nigerian banks to a sinking fund to help resolve Nigeria’s banking crisis, but that is because he had no other choice if the problem was to be addressed without direct intervention by the Federal Government.

Also, commercial bankers have a more narrow perspective that is focused on finance, technical banking and business deals. Very few have the intellectual weight or professional exposure needed to manage a central bank in today’s world or a public institution such as the CBN, including essential experience in formulating broader monetary and economic policy or the regulation of the financial sector. A CBN Governor is at its essence a public policy function. Again, a commercial banker will have gathered many “friends” and “enemies” in the banking industry during a long career, and will be tempted to favour friends while “regulating” detractors. As we have seen, this is a subtext in some of the regulatory actions taken by Sanusi in his banking reforms. Lastly, individuals with controversial histories should not be considered for appointment as CBN Governor.

With this in mind, current speculation about the possible appointment of some politicians and bank executives should make us wonder when we will get truly serious about institutional leadership appointments in this country. One can only hope that President Jonathan does not capitulate to the desperate lobbyists parading the corridors of the presidency with deep pockets and appoint another CBN Governor that will trigger controversies from day one, further lowering confidence in his government and in the CBN. Jonathan needs to make an appointment to this post that will bolster the sagging ratings of his embattled government.

What type of person should get the job? Professionalism, and competence as an economic and regulatory policy maker should be the leading factor in the President’s consideration. These factors are far more important, and may even reap greater political benefits for the government, than factors such as what geopolitical zone the nominee comes from. The next CBN Governor should be someone able to repair the political battering the apex bank has suffered on account of the personality and tendencies of its present governor, which have unquestionably weakened and distracted the institution. This should narrow the field and result in a more serious search process in which the track record of potential appointees is well investigated and objectively evaluated. Looking at the CBN at this juncture and at what Nigeria needs, it is important that the reforms instituted by Sanusi be continued, deepened and executed with less drama and bad blood to avoid unnecessary policy reversals. What this suggests is that President Jonathan should take a close look inside the CBN hierarchy itself, especially since he claims that he wants to build institutions. One advantage with a CBN insider is that it will build the institution instead of building someone’s ego, and ensure continuity of policy in a most important part of our country’s economic management. The President can also look at other regulatory or government institutions, or perhaps the academia, although academics may be too wedded to theories and may lack leadership experience with running large institutions and with financial regulation.

A little bit of research on the CBN website revealed a surprising and little-known fact: five out of the nine Nigerians who have served as CBN Governors have been senior executives of the apex bank before their appointment. A sixth, Chukwuma Soludo, did not come from within the apex bank but was the chief economic adviser to the Federal Government prior to his appointment. With the exception of Lamido Sanusi, the two other CBN chiefs who had served as managing directors of banks before becoming governor (and even one of these, Joseph Sanusi, was a career CBN official who rose to become Deputy Governor for several years before leaving to be the Managing Director of UBA and later First Bank) did so in a completely different era. That era was one in which Nigeria’s leading commercial banks were largely owned by governments. Lamido Sanusi is therefore the first “pure” free-market-era bank chief to head the CBN. The experience of his tenure and many other factors clearly recommend against appointing a successor with a similar profile.

You mind if we appoint you as the next governor, this literature alone earns you that sit grin grin.

adeyinka_basir: A POOR YOUNG BOY AND THE DOG

A few days ago I landed at the Bombay Airport (India) and took a cab to my scheduled destination in South Bombay.

I was enjoying the busy traffic with people rushing in every possible directions then we got stranded at a very busy intersection.

As we waited for the signal to turn green, my eyes met up with a poor young boy, about 12 years old. He removed a piece of bread from his pocket and took a bite.

As he was about to take his next bite, a stray dog wagged his tail looking at him. Without hesitation, he sat down and put the bread on the road for the dog to eat.

The dog sniffed the bread and walked away. The boy waited until he was sure the dog was gone then he picked up the bread and ate it!

My heart cried and wanted to walk up to the boy but before I could open the door the signal turned Green and our car drove away. I kept thinking about the boy and later during my evening meal I realized that I was thinking of approaching the boy but never did, I could have stopped the car and walked up to him which again I never did.

All I did was “thinking” and this poor little boy who had only one piece of bread without any hesitation sharing it with the dog, though he himself seemed to be very hungry.

I learnt one of the biggest lessons in my life which that boy taught me without a conversation. He taught me to share with love and happiness. I am so blessed to have learnt this beautiful lesson from my ‘little unknown master’. It is my moral duty to share this incident with all my friends across the globe and be blessed with happiness.

Thank you friends for making this world a beautiful place to dwell.

"Just felt i should share this with you guys"

jennykadry: I sometimes avoid the travel section because of the hate some Nigerians based in that shait hole of a country called nigeria, spew. To be quite honest I believe it's just jealousy, jealous of fellow Nigerians who were lucky and blessed enough to get a life outside Nigeria. I know and believe that some of you wished that you could travel outside Nigeria and live in the westernized world for as long as you want instead of visiting with a few months visa and returning back to that cursed nation.

I AM NOT PROUD TO BE A NIGERIAN and I have my reason,so the rest of you who wished you had the kind of lives we have here can get your 1 dollar bill and put it where your mouth is. Not too long ago a NLDER started a thread on dual nationality, the way some people who have no international passport let alone visa hated the Nigerians who are dual nationals was enough to cause problems on that thread. Even politicians-the government know that our country Nigeria ruin more lives, causes more harm than good to it's citizens and thought it necessary to fly their children outside the country for a better life, a better education and better opportunities. I am ashamed of that country Nigeria. Renewing a foreign passport in my current location is as easy as and can be done in the comfort of my own home but Nigeria made life hell for a lot of us who wanted to renew their passports. I was treated so rudely in my own country's high commission that I had to walk away in anger. If I walk into any AUSTRALIA High commission, I am treated like a VIP, well taken of, listened to, spoken to with respect and they sort out whatever issues I had with the snap of a finger.....yet the rest of yous expect some of us to clap for Nigeria or come back to that country for good? a country I visited recently and NEPA proved themselves as usual, a country where the citizens were flogged like children at the immigration office in Lagos, citizens like you and I only wanting to get their passports. undecided

A recent thread about a nigerian woman who angrily swore to tear her nigerian passport is trending now and as usual, those haterz are there calling her names. SHUT UP and give her the $300 dollars she wasted there and stop making noise. Many Nigerians have been told to come for appointments only for them to get there and be turned back cos of faulty equipment that had gone bad for months without them telling these people about it. Go to your international airport in Lagos and see the curse that place has become, many things there are key and start cos they are trying to "save electricity".

I am going to say this to all you hating nigerians living in diaspora that you lot should go on your knees and pray to whatever being you serve so that we remain here cos if some of us professionals with high standards decide to relocate back to Nigeria.....ALL OF YOU WILL BE JOBLESS, YOUR JOBS WE WILL TAKE AWAY FROM YOU AND OUR PAY WILL BE QUADRUPLED BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT PEOPLE INTELLECTUALLY BLESSED HAVE GRACED THEIR PRESENCE"......in other words shuuushhhh and be thankful to us cos without us staying abroad, some of you people will be begging on the streets for food.

Don't hate us cos we appreciate countries who have given us more than we could have asked for, don't blame us for not regarding that shait hole of a country called Nigeria. Why should I be proud of Nigeria? why should I have hope in Nigeria?when even the government know that nothing good is forth coming into and from that country, cos if they believed, they wouldn't pay millions to keep their families outside Nigeria.

YES MY NAME IS JENNIFER KADRY AND I AM STUP.PID.......Hit your heads and thank you very much. cool
