...today was cool. We had our class as usually but it was 1 hour late. We continued on CSS and I also learnt how to create other pages of a website apart from the index. This is cool.

My cousin is sick and didn't attend class. He will has a class tomorrow to cover for today's class. Our instructor is really nice with schedule. Hopefully by Friday we will have a combined class as usual.

I have an assignment to create a website with two side bars. Let me see what I can achieve...

Good night.

For Python with Adruino, check out Rasberry Pi library in Python. Also C++ is inevitable for this, but then C++ and python are the major languages you need in this area.
There is a misconception about Python being simple, Python's ease does not make it less powerful, some programs in python can be more difficult than equivalent java programs, for example Python's object oriented programming is not usually that easy to grasp compared to that of java or c++, also python is definitely powerful enough for what you need, but you also need c++. Python may be slower than c++ and dynamically typed, but it's much more high level and allows you prototype faster.
From my findings, C++ and Python are the two major languages for Robotics nowadays, so you are definitely on the right path with python.
Thank you very much.

@asalimpo

Yes, you are right. My findings show that what I may most likely need for Arduino is C or C++. But of all the programming language I have tried to enquire about, python tops the list for the scientists. My findings also show that it is easier to learn and code python when compared to other languages. So I thought I should go for it, while I think less about learning and coding the language, I will devote more time about the solution I want to create with it.

I don't mind how long it takes me, I just want to create solution, build and do something different. My fear is people doing it before me.

You'll hav to prepare yourself for lifelong learning in this field. So,if you always need an instructor to put u str8,it will b hard/impossible to keep up.

Why r u switchng fields to web d? Y not stay nd build ur career in d present field? Is it the money? While d earnings mayb attractive remmber ,it's very labour intensive which is ironic since automation is supposed to reduce labour costs, but,in i.t each advancemnt simply give more crude tools for building d next pyramid.
The amount of code you'll have to write is always gonna be substantial.
I am not switching field. I am not motivated by the pay I will get from jobs I will do. I am motivated by the solutions I want to create.

Here are some reasons I am going for programming. I want to run a PhD program, and I have a research interest. For some years I have been in the lab running some research protocols. If I take what I know and conduct a research here, I will most likely round up my PhD in less than 2 years and maybe wait for the 3rd year to pick my cert. Our library is filled with plenty research work that have not added anything new to knowledge. People are repeating what have been done and then spice it a little to bag a PhD. No, i don't want such. I have dropped two PhD admission because i am yet to figure out something that is innovative yet cheaper to do as a research work. I can't imagine spending 400k to 600k or even 1million to do a research that the report will be collecting dust in the library. My MSc research taught me a lesson. I really spent money to do the work but of a truth, what I did has no real life application. So why waste the money and time? So in this research interest I have, I want to develop a system that can make it automated. If this works, of which I believe it will work, we can then use it in the industry to monitor and predict some industrial processes. Though there are sophisticated procedures used in the industry, my idea is getting an alternative that uses simple and very basic chemistry to operate. I intend to build the system using arduino boards of which some knowledge about programming is needed. So if the research interest don't have a real life application, let the automated system be a contribution to knowledge. That's one.

Why I was working with some Profs. in school, I discovered that immediately after Buhari assumed office, most university academic staff start having serious issues about processes certain things that will help promote them in their field. I keep asking myself, Why not create a platform for them that makes it easy?

Another reason why I am enthusiastic about programming is that, while I travel around for business, I discovered that there is a trend in business which is cumbersome yet people can't help but do business like that. The believe is the traditional way business must be done but I beg to disagree. So I ask, Why not build a firm and create a platform that change the way people do this business transactions?

And many more...

You may ask, why not contract people to develop these system and platform? Well, one is funding, two is hijacking the idea, three is avoiding the "Covenant University" type of scam, four is getting people who can see what you are seeing and do exactly what you want them to do.

Today wasn't good at all. I missed another class because of work. ...and I didn't call my instructor to reschedule it because I didn't want my cousin to miss the class. However, I had to rush to my cousin's house to see what they did. I may sneak into class tomorrow to see my instructor. With the way things are going, at the end of this web design class, I will need to take some break to properly prepare and reschedule myself very well for the programming class...

l don't think you can do without javascript for frontend web development. Python is popular for the web but not as popular as javascript or PHP from my findings so far.
However l also agree with your instructor on this, you can't learn everything at once, but I'll say after learning Html and css, learn any of the popular javascript frameworks (like React, Jquery, or Angular next). Then cap it up with Python's Django, Pyramid, Web2py or Flask.
You can use the Django Rest framework for Restful Api's, with Javascript's React at the front end.
When it comes to the web, there's a lot to learn, there's also sql for your database management, just take it one at a time.
Thank you for your contribution. Yes, he is saying a lot about JavaScript, jquery, SQL,... I really can't put those things together. I will just take things one after the other. Our next class after this CSS is bootstrap. After that, another thing. He is always saying, practice and practice on your own ohh.. smiley

...I am beginning to love this IT class. Its fun but its really eating into my schedule. Today we had another class and It was pretty cool. We did more work on CSS and then layouting the site. oh! I can't wait to start my python class.

Yes, i have a question to ask. Though i want to learn Python programming, my intention was not to use it for web development. In the web development, i wish to learn PHP, javascript... Now my instructor adviced me to start off web development with pyhton and leave PHP. To him, it will be better to learn python and use it for web development and whatever i want to use it for, than learning PHP, javascript (which are also programming language) for web development and then fall back to start pyhton. Thats a very long long journey. According to him, its better i master one programming language and master it very well, and that will take me timeeeeeeee. Since its python, i should face pyhton squarely.

So what do you think about the advice?

Pic: the outcome of what we did today. We laid out our site into different divisions and styled it with CSS. How do you see it?

...today was a cool day. We had a class. My cousin joined me. He started his class around 9am and had a crash course on HTML. Then by 1pm I arrived for the class. My class was delayed for 1 hours because my instructor had another class he was handling. So I used the 1 hours to take my cousin on HTML. He is really learning fast. We practiced for some time and by 2pm we started the class with our instructor. We did CSS and used it to do some pretty stuffs with the little knowledge we have on HTML. Our class ended some minutes after 4pm.

Unfortunately I got to the house very late because there was an accident on the road. A trailer carrying a heavy equipment lost control, fell and blocked the road. Thank God no life was lost.

Only in China. Outside of China, it would have destroyed them. Huawei will be thanking their God now.

How would it have killed Google? Within the context of the global mobile phone industry alone, If Android retired Blackberry, then who is Huawei to Google? That's like saying if Mercedes Benz stops using Michellin tyres it will fold up grin Impossicant. Google is even bigger than Apple as far as the mobile phone industry dominance percentage is concerned.
I am not even putting Apple into the perspective. My own angle is from the side of Huawei and China building a new OS as an alternative. Google provides a service which Huawei is one of their highest patronizers. If Huawei looks else where for OS, google will suffer. Take it or leave it

I will miss class today.

Today is really a bad day. The machinist I am working with messed up my material. Instruction is to cut the cylinder 18 inches but he cut it 12.5inches. I got to his workshop and got tired. He just messed this stainless cylinder. I am going to stay with him to be sure he follows the remaining instructions. So no web design class for me today, mtcheew!!!

Anyway, tomorrow is another class

Day 2

Today was pretty cool. It rained throughout the morning. Class started a little after 1:0 pm. It lasted for more than 2 hours which was our agreed duration per class. My instructor was impressed on my practice and we used what i practiced on to practice other tags and functions.

I was given an assignment to build two pages of forms. So that will preoccupy most of night.

Picture below is a screenshot of what we did today.

the total cost hovers around 190k. Web design 26k Web development, 41k and Python 121k. Yes, with this structured learning, I believe I will do well

I've been wanting to learn programming too for more than 6 years now. grin started many times but lost interest.

Right now, I've made up my mind. I've downloaded several books on Python and learning a few things with SoloLearn. But I'll have to change focus now and start with Java. Reason being that my project supervisor (a post graduate program) insists I use Java for my project. I'm like, I might as well start with Java then.. What do you guys think about that?
Interesting. I once tried sololearn and some other app but I couldn't learn a thing with them. I think this approach of getting an instructor is the best. Now to make it more interesting, my cousin wants to join me. With a study mate, I think I will move faster. smiley

ProgrammingMy Journey To Programming by iHart(op):
Hello Nairaland,

I want to keep a diary on my journey to programming. I would have opened the thread on the dairy section but I decided to do it here where I can get comments from time to time.

For over two years i have been dreaming of learning Python or any other language that can help me with the projects I have in mind. I have tried severally to learn on my own using videos from YouTube but I always lose concentration.

So last week I summoned courage to register with an IT firm for training and get a personal instructor.

They training will be from wed design to wed development and then Python. The web design is expected to last for 8 weeks, then after I migrate to web development which will last for another 8weeks. ...and the Python. Seems the training will be a long one grin

So my training started yesterday, 13/05/19. I was assigned an instructor who I can say is good. Our first class was pretty good.

We did a lot of story telling, some theory talks and then practicals. In our practical I was able to install an editor, create a folder in my system for the tutorial class, learnt about tags, attributes and values, etc then did some coding, viewed it on the browser and saved. Our class lasted for two hours and we dismissed for the day. My instructor gave me a task to always code or practice for at least 2 hours everyday.

At the end of the day, we scheduled to have three classes a week. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. But for this week, it will be Monday, Thursday and Friday. The classes could be adjusted to suit our personal schedule as he is also a busy person and I also have other jobs I do.

This dairy is just to boast my morale and help me keep up with the training. If you find time, please drop a word of encouragement for me.

I will be adding screenshots of my training/practice from time to time. For now, bye. My next class is on Thursday.
