benalvino3:This is the "American politics" thread. You may want to open up a new thread called British politics thread or UK is "shiit" thread. |
Obrigardo:Wtf? He should have fled the country. |
This is a big step.

I think Republicans are finally getting it. The heightened libel standards and the protections offered to even libelous right wing media, keeps them in business. Removing them will hurt Right Wing Media outlets who often lie, (Fox etc) far far far more than Liberal Media. Look at all the lies in this thread and the current Fox News case. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/03/us/politics/desantis-defamation-libel-laws-florida.html

Obrigardo:Yeah, nice state. But very expensive.. well Boston that is. And Boston is still sorting out it's racist past. But it's telling outside of Utah, the top 10 states are all Democratic. So.. it is true. Vote Republican.. you'll die earlier. The funny thing is this is true with Education and Wealth. |
Was looking through the rankings in this article of the Top US States With Longest Life Expectancy. And surprisingly there's mostly a commonality between the top 10 ranked states and the 10 worst ranked states. I'm sure you can pick it out. https://www.lifeextension.com/wellness/lifestyle/best-us-states-for-long-life-expectancy

okuta007:I've reduced you to rambling incoherently. It's hard to discuss things when you get all your news from tikk tok posts, innit. Here's a recent poll on your majority of Americans. Majority of Americans Think Trump Investigations are Fair…Three in Four Say Trump Did Something Wrong https://maristpoll.marist.edu/polls/donald-trump-investigations/?cid=eml_firstread_20230328

I think the narrative that the Trump indictment is some never seen political targeting is an indictment on the Media. Trump has called for Bill Clinton, Obama, and Hilary Clinton to be prosecuted, led chants "lock her up" and asked Bill Bar to prosecute Obama and Clinton. While the House Republicans are currently investigating Biden's son, a current President who is running for President. I wish the media would call it out or ask those who are making the argument to explain the hypocrisy. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/04/01/trump-ceded-moral-high-ground-presidential-indictments-long-ago/

Obrigardo:No US president has went to a British coronation. |
Obrigardo:The amount of nonsense posts here.. for sure. |
okuta007:And you wonder why you are so uninformed. The Wall St. Journal, owned by Rupert Murdoch who also owns Fox News isn't crazy right wing enough for you? Lol. It must suck being you. Being so emotionally invested in something that you have to stick your hands in your ears and cover your eyes to keep from hearing/reading info that goes against the propaganda you believe.
|
okuta007:Of course you stopped reading after that. I think you missed the qualification "usually" in that sentence. Those two states you listed are outliers and even they aren't as educated as the most educated Blue states. But I think I read you lived in the US. If you do, you should be better informed about the socioeconomics of the country you live. But I assume all you watch is Fox news and other alt-right sources. There is no incentive for them to say that red states(their viewers) are generally poorer or less educated. In fact, Trump states usually get more from the Federal government than they give(you know Welfare, Socialism). In fact the counties that Biden won account for 70% of the US GDP. Get more informed and it may be a better discussion. Here is the conservative Wall Street Journal. Biden Counties Account for 70% of U.S. GDP https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/latest-updates-biden-trump-election-2020/card/32vHNFTTc2xxNr7NITHY

OLAADEGBU:Seems there are a lot of mentally ill people in Nigeria. Or does Nairaland just attract them. |
okuta007:Yeah, one us is typing without thinking. Your post is all over the place. You should start with the basics. Pull up a map of the US and look at each state. Look at the demographics of them. Republicans states are usually poorer and less educated. Then figure which of those states actually matter electorally... Swing States. Start there and you'll understand why Huckabee won her race. Now go through the midterm election in those swing states, look at the polling. Go through the crosstabs and look at who actually voted for Trump's candidates. The problem is that Trump's people generally win the primaries. Because people who vote in primaries are usually the ultra committed in the party. And since he has a cult. They all show up to vote in the primaries. That's not a good thing. As I said, Trump is crazy, his followers are crazy and the people he endorses are crazy. Georgia(now a swing state) is a good example of that. Republican voters split their ticket in 2022. They voted Republican for Governor(a person who didn't support Trump) and voted Dem or didn't vote for the Senate candidate Herschel Walker who Trump endorsed. His candidates in the Swing States did horribly. Even JD Vance had a tough election in a state that is now considered a Republican State. But it gets worse. If you look at those exit polling cross tabs, you will see he lost big among woman, especially educated suburban woman. Now tell me how a trial for paying off a porn star who he slept with while his wife was pregnant helps him win back educated suburban woman? It's a wrap. |
Trump's daughter. Very telling statement from someone who knows him well.

Valoromega:Confused. A law was created saying "X" is illegal. If he did X, the Jury has to indict him for breaking that law. The principle in the US is that no one is above the law. And quite peculiarly, the supposed "law and order" party is arguing that some laws shouldn't matter. |
okuta007:Trump is not winning a general election. Period. A majority of Americans just want him to go away. Americans will not vote for a 2x impeached, probably 3x indicted ex President who launched an insurrection. Mainstream Republicans are scared witless right now. He will win the Republican nomination (which says a lot about the morality in the Republican party) and he will again lose the General. You don't have to take my word, just look at the push for Desantis even on Fox News. Since Trump came to office, Republicans have lost the House, the Senate, the White House, State Houses, Governorships etc etc. They only won the House in 2022 due to some extreme Republican gerrymandering. He's a loser of a candidate. |
ifihearam:Here's some facts for you. https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/31/politics/trump-soros-bragg-color-of-change/index.html |
Trump at his lying again. Bragg wanted to have him processed today, which was smart. Gives Trump's base less time to mobilize to NY . Trump claimed the Secret Service needed more time to be able to bring him to NY. Secret Service basically says that is a lie, they could have had in NY today. Trump clearly wants to be processed on Tues to give him more time to inflame his base and of course raise money from his idiotic base.

exnovio:I think the connection between the parties is which garnered more of the vote of the educated voters. In Nigeria I believe the LP won the vote of those were educated. In the US, the Dem party won the vote of those educated. Your analogy is suspect. |
No one knows what the charges actually are. Everyone in the media is guessing as the indictment is sealed. The media didn't even know the indictment was coming yesterday, until it did. In fact I believe most of the narrative is being pushed by the Trump side. As he did with last week's arrest date (to raise money). Trump is a masterful propagandist and media manipulator. The US legal system is robust. This is the first stage. He was indicted by a majority of a grand jury of citizens who were presented charges by the DA. He will have a jury trial where he will have to be convicted by a unanimous Jury of 12 randomly selected people. His Defense team will have the opportunity to question and reject a larger pool of potential jurors to get to that 12. Even before that he has the opportunity to file motions to the Judge to dismiss the charges or reduce the charges if they aren't up and up. He can also appeal that decision to the NY Supreme court and whatever Constitutional issues he has he can fight all the way to the US Supreme Court (where there is a 6-3 conservative majority). And he is wealthy and connected. The US system is weighted towards people like that. Who can afford top lawyers. It's the people without who usually get railroaded. My take: The reason why Republicans are pushing this so hard, outside of it being the 1st case, is that this is the only case where there is no chance of a pardon. This is a NY state charge and unless something absolutely amazing happens, there will never be a Republican NY Governor. GA has a Republican Governor, so even if he is charged there, there is a chance he can convince that Governor to pardon him. And the Special Counsel investigation being Federal can be pardoned by a President. So, he can pardon himself or be pardoned by the next Republican president. |
Obrigardo:Lol. Mr. Lock her up. I guess he was right about being indicated on a Tues. He spoke it into existence. |
PDPGuy:He has the Special Council investigation of Jan. 6 an which seems may turn into a conspiracy charge. Has the GA election fraud case which may also turn into a conspiracy charge. It's just too much. He most likely has a ceiling of voters he can win over. Trump is not winning a general. Mainstream Republicans are probably pissed this went first as it may bolster his chances of being the nominee. But not sure the details of this one but the other 2 are very serious. I'm sure if you polled those same Independents, they probably just want him to go away. |
Obrigardo:He's good at playing the tough guy when there are no consequences. Trump will surrender and Disney did him in. |

kkins25:Very weak argument. All your arguments are lacking. Your counter to "My body is my choice" doesn't even directly address the argument. Background. I'm Christian. But all these arguments pro abortion flow from my body my choice. So, until someone addresses that substantially by making a compelling argument, I can't logically oppose abortion. You fell way short here. |
Obrigardo:Agreed... Wasn't going to but the part of me that likes information won out. I'm curious though which obfuscation point he will employ. Lol. |
Drameeja:You came into this discussion discussing US job losses. The actual US employment figures would seem like something you'd want to be aware of first right? In fact it would have taken you a couple of minutes just to google. What is the point of trying to discuss something if you don't take the time to inform yourself first? Here, i'll do you this one time courtesy of doing your work for you. And since all the numbers and statistics and actual data on the BLS site may proof too confusing for you I'll just add a headline from an article. And it's from that unabashedly liberal site called Blomberg.. Yeah that was sarcasm. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-03/biden-hails-strongest-job-growth-in-history-as-hiring-surges?leadSource=uverify%20wall Biden Lauds ‘Strongest Job Growth in History’ as Hiring Surges US added 517,000 jobs in January, clouding inflation fight But President Joe Biden seized on the report as unabashedly good news for his economic agenda ahead of an expected reeelection bid, hailing data showing the US economy added 517,000 new jobs in January, blowing out estimates. The fresh numbers pushed total job gains under Biden’s term — which began in the depths of the pandemic — to 12 million.

Drameeja:Huh? You want me to list all the US companies that employ people? The Bureau of Labor Statistics collects and reports all employment information. https://www.bls.gov/ |
Drameeja:Try this, take the number of those laid off in your article(95,000) and divide that by the number of employed Americans (~131,000,000). Tell me what percentage that is. That will be the percentage of those laid off to the overall percentage of people working. I'll let you do math. Let me know if you need help with it. The problem in the US isn't employment at the moment, it's the FED's belief that in order to tame inflation they need to increase the unemployment rate by 1% and that's what they are doing by increasing the interest rates. And the FED is a wholly independent agency whose Chair(Powell) is a Republican reappointed by Biden (Dems will be Dems, see how well Comey worked out). The fear in the Biden circle should be that the FED causes these layoffs in the midst of the 2024 campaign and that these layoffs don't stop at a 1% increase in the unemployment rate. |
benalvino3:You are such a TRASH person. You are so intellectually stunted, the minute someone calls you out on something, you resort to making up lies or recounting stories about people's personal lives, family, etc. You have no real moral center. A TRASH person through and through. |
