Good morning. Ikenna |
redcliff:Attached picture is Z8 interior, not even Z9. So this interior designed in 1999 looks boring to you? It doesn't look boring to me. In fact, I love it! Ikenna

Why 607? I don't even know where to start. Let me put it this way. Several times, I have received mails and calls from people, thanking me for opening their eyes to good things in life. About how, after reading my posts on Lions, have switched or acquired Lions and after few weeks or months of ownership found all said about Lions were true. Sometimes, I would receive SMS with some Glo recharge pins followed by words "Thank you!" The truth is, someone, somewhere will find the 607 discussion here interesting, even if the Op decides not to go for the Lion. Always remember this, "like attracts like". What you drive tells a lot about you to a client or customer. You don't seek for a contract driving into some places in Abuja with some brand of cars. The law of gravity says if you jump off a 10 storey building, whether you are a good or bad person, you are going to hit the ground. Likewise, Law of attraction has not changed because we are Nigerians. Lions and Lionesses in Nigeria have gone beyond what you guys still think or see on Nairaland. The Whatsapp Lions community has grown to over 100 members. A very big network among Lions and Lionesses is going in the country in that community. Members knowing each other by their true names, meeting old lost friends and classmate in the Den, etc. Last month, those of us in Abuja met, had drinks together and enjoyed ourselves. We are meeting next Sunday to end the year together. We help each other out. We enjoy our togetherness simply because our Lions brought us together. That's what naturally happens in Lions Den; That's what happens when you own Cars With Attitude! Lions are not for those who are after "Let my people go!". Its not for those who have chosen to remain in a box, continually thinking, " What is, What about, I heard, They said, I think, etc". Anyone can choose to live how he likes or prefer to live for peoples approval. Most times, people doom themselves by always looking for the cheapest, the most reasonable, the most economical. Its all in the mind. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer is simply because of how both think and act. Stay in that comfort or reasonable zone and you will remain there till you stop to exist, and the world wouldn't remember your name when you go. But step out of there, risk and aim big. Then, not only wikipedia create a page for your name, you live abundantly while on it. It all starts from little things like what we are talking in this thread, "Don't go for the big one, go fo the small or reasonable one. Or better still, start small, because that's what "THEY" said its better". If I must ask, WHO ARE THEY? Cars With Attitude! Life is Good, if you let it come to you. For anyone the 607 makes sense to, welcome to the Lion's Den. Ikenna

Sorry guys. Was busy attending to some matters in WhatsApp Lions community. Ok. Back to next to discuss. VAN-bus: An electrical system which simply means plenty wires. That is, each wire does a particular work. Its also a Multiplexed system, but partial one. You will find this VAN-bus system on early D9 (1999-2002), early 206, 607 (Z8), etc. CAN-bus system. In other words, means full multiplexing. Also means less wires in the vehicle. That is, a wire does more than one function or controls so many things, hence, less wire to do all the work. You will find this system in late D9 (late 2002, 2003-2010), 407, Z9, 307, 207, late 206, etc. Next.... Why 607? Ikenna |
Phase II 607 (Z9) 2005-2010. For the petrol models, we have only EW12 & ES (V6) engines only. The EW12 this time came with 6-speed manual, while V6 had only auto tranny, but with 6-speed this time (Aisin AM6). Few gadgets were added to the Z9. Like feature that allows you to connect your phone calls from your phone to headunit/radio via Bluetooth, etc. How to identify Z8 from Z9. For a start, the pic Op attached is Z8. The Z8 has square shaped front fog lights glove, while Z9 has round shaped fog lights. The lion logo on Z9 front grille is bigger than that of Z8. Then on inside, the CD/MP3 headunit player became standard on Z9 dashboard, while Z8 headunit didn't have CD slot as standard. It had only 6 loader CD player, mounted in the boot. Then similar, but not identical suspension in Z9 and Z8. Chrome detailing on Z9 exterior/body.HID headlights in Z9. Z9s have CAN-bus electrical system, different from VAN-bus in Z8. Will explain both in next post. Other than these few changes, they are basically the same. Coming next is VAN-bus vs CAN-bus in 607. Ikenna |
More on Z8... Electrical system. The Z8 (99-2004) has VAN-bus system, that is, partial multiplexing. The same VAN-bus system is what you will find phase II 406 (D9). Almost identical. The main difference between D9 & Z8 is the added gadgets in Z8, meaning ECUs in Z8 to control those gadgets. Each ECU is as reliable and durable as the other. For example, Z8 V6 has suspension ECU, while D9 don't. As for identical, D9 V6 ECU system is ME 7.4.6 for manual tranny. Likewise, that's the same ECU system of Z8 engine ECU. The D9 electrical system protocol is KWP 2000, that's the same with Z8 system. The basics of the two Lions are same, difference is the added gadgets and ECUs on Z8. So, anyone that is good in maintenance culture and dislike abusing what he/she owns will enjoy ownership of Z8, just the same way a D9 owner does. The powertrain. The same engines and transmissions you will find in D9 is what you will find in Z8. Difference is on Z8 V6 Auto tranny (4HP20) that comes with triptronic feature, which is lacking in D9 V6 Auto , the same 4HP20 box. Will explain the VAN-bus system in details after I have talked about Z9 (phase II). I need to prepare for my Mass. Next will be Z9... Ikenna |
607 phase 1 (1999-2004) Z8. The phase 1 607 is known as Z8. The Z8 come with 3 petrol engines: EW10, EW12 & ES9J4S (V6). Will skip the diesel engines here, since that's probably not what you are after. The EW10 engine (2.0 L) in 607 mostly come with 5-speed manual, BVM5. It develops 138 hp. Z8 with this engine is very underpowered. Not advisable to go for. Fuel consumption on highway doing 100km/h will give you 6 L/100 km. EW12 engine (2.2 L) in Z8 come with either 5-speed manual (BVM5) or 4-speed Auto. The engine posses maximum of 170 hp. Its ok for 607. On speed of about 100 km/h, it will average 39 mpg (7.2 L). As for Z8 with ES9J4S (V6) engine, it comes with either 5-speed manual or 4-speed Auto (ZF 4HP20). The engine posses 210 hp. The best engine for Z8, followed by EW12. Highway driving, at reasonable speed, should average 38 mpg (7.3 L). The Z8 has oil temperature gauge on the instrument panel as standard. It will help you to monitor the oil temperature, just like coolant temperature as you drive. With that gauge, you will know when something is going wrong with oil pump or when you use bad oil or oil filter. A very good gadget. In fact, that gauge should determine for you when you can start revving your engine higher than 3k rpm. Z8 V6, they have variable suspension and steering as standard. That is, the higher the speed, the lower the suspension drops the body of the car. Simply put, at certain high speed, the shock absorber automatically lowers itself down, to give the Lion a better Stability on the high-speed. Then when speed starts reducing, they spring themselves up. It also has switch,,where you can permanently live it on normal suspension mode or sports mode. Then, the variable steering. Its a type of power steering, different from conventional power assisted steering (PAS), that makes steering wheel heavy as speed increases, to prevent overstreering while on high speed. The lower the speed, the softer the steering becomes. The higher the speed, the heavy and harder the steering wheel becomes on hands. The variable steering and suspension on Z8 V6 makes it drive like a drum on high speed, which will make the car very difficult to lift off the ground on high -speed. They were simply designed for speed. The headrest (head restraint) on V6 and some EW12 are electrically adjusted, just like the 2 front seats. Likewise, the rear glass sunblind is electrically controlled too. The external rearview mirrors automatically folds itself when remote control is used to close doors in V6 and some EW12. The boot can be opened manually or with remote control. And can be closed manually or electrically by mere pressing of a button. If I keep talking of gadgets in 607, it will take me the whole day. But I would want to note this, avoid 607 with monoscreen on dashboard. That is smaller Multifunction display. Go for the big Navigation screen. The former tends to fail often, while the latter last the car lifespan. To be continued.... Ikenna |
Now, to break it down for you on 607. In Lions Den, you don't just say 607. You need to specify what phase you want? phase 1 or phase 2? The phase you want will determine engines and transmissions available. The phase will also determine gadgets you got to enjoy and the Lions looks. Now, you will be wondering how do you know which phase to choose from and what each has to offer. Will explain each of the phases in subsequent posts. To be continued... Ikenna |
Before now, most Nigerians were scared of Peugeot 406 phase II (aka Prestige). Some would tell you the electrics would fail at certain mileage, and so many other horrible stories they packaged to unleash on anyone who ever considered a 406 to acquire. But now, people have started to appreciate the Lion and realised those "facts" were not true. Funny enough, mine has exceeded the mileage most claimed the electrics must fail once they get there, yet my D9 electrics still work as if it left show room not long ago. But one thing these Nigerians do not realise is that 406 phase II and 607 phase 1 were designed together at the same time by one company and produced side by side in the same compound at the same time, by the same engineers. In simply words, 607 is as good as 406. Every system that was used in producing 406, was also what you will find in 607: The same Electricals, mechanicals, emission system, engine cooling systems, engines and gearboxes, gadgets, pininfarina design, etc. The only difference is that 607 got all 406 systems, then with added luxurious gadgets and some added luxurious mechanicals, like the suspension, PAS, etc. To be continued.... Ikenna |
Quite a number of Nigerians would tell you to run away from Peugeot 607. Because that's all they know about 607 from a distance, " Run away from 607. Its very problematic and expensive to maintain". When you ask them, they would tell you they have seen many abandoned 607 at workshops, mechanics frown at the mention of 607, knew a previous owner the Lion showed pepper, et cetera, et cetera. All these about this Lion are "facts" gathered from a distance. At the beginning, I was here too. But when I began study on Peugeot's electrical & mechanical systems, with regard to diagnosis and repairs, I realised how wrong I was about the Lion, 607. Peugeot 607, with the current knowledge I have on that Lions systems, is one of the most Luxurious, reliable and durable Lion Peugeot ever produced. How? To be continued.... Ikenna |
Saw this thread about 4 hours ago, but was so busy that I couldn't comment, because it will be a long post. Before I go into it, I need to settle my stomach first. I Will be back! Ikenna |
@ Export1, The way and manner you have been going round Car Talk, committing plagiarism in almost every thread is becoming alarming. This is exactly what caused Linda Ikeji's blog downfall not long ago. Copying peoples work and taking the credit for what you didn't create. If you can copy someone's work, be disciplined enough to quote the creator or provide the source. Car Talk Moderators, don't allow what happened to Linda Ikejis blog happen to Nairaland because of this section. Ikenna |
patlead:I have already explained the fuel pump, in connection to your symptoms, in my previous post. As for electrical issue you asked, fuel pump is also electrical. Notwithstanding, I would first check if the fuel pump get power supply when ignition is switched on. Use digital multimeter and test the fuel pump connector (positive & negative wires) to know if the pump get power supply. Ikenna |
Patlead, If your engine would start when you spray in fuel in intake through throttle body , but goes off once the fuel burns off, it means there is no fuel supply in that intake manifold. Meaning, your Injectors are not supplying fuel or enough. But since you said the engine would go off after secs, then there seem not to be fuel supply at all from those injectors. And what could make injectors not supply fuel or enough fuel to start a cold engine? 1. Crankshaft position sensor. I wouldn't know Ford injection and ignition system, but I do know for Peugeot, if your engine speed sensor (crankshaft position sensor) is faulty or failing, it will not only not produce fuel through Injectors, your spark plugs Won't spark as well, since the sensor controls both. But then you said the car would go off sometimes while engine is running. That sounds like engine speed sensor symptom as well. 2. Low fuel pressure. If your FPR (Fuel Pressure regulator ) is no longer doing its work well, the pressure won't be enough for fuel pump to get Injectors do their work. Likewise, a failing fuel pump will give weak fuel pressure as well, hence, hard start at cold engine. A weak fuel pump could stall a car in motion. Test the fuel pressure with proper tool. 3. CTS. What controls the injectors at cold start trough engine ECU in Ford Focus? Coolant temperature sensor or cold start injectors? These can cause hard start when engine is cold if they start failing or failed. But wouldn't make the engine to go off while vehicle is in motion, like you described. Ikenna |
AutosBay:You don't think the engine will not start if the culprit was coil pack while he was spraying in fuel manually into intake manifold through throttle body? Ikenna |
hoodboy:Meanwhile, why not join the WhatsApp Lions community? You will learn quite a lot from the community from other Lion users. We are now on house 2, about 100 members on the whole. If you are on WhatsApp and you are interested to join, send me a message on my phone to save and add you to the community. My phone number is 08052811236. Ikenna |
hoodboy:How clean it looks means less for a Nigerian used Lion, if the systems has been abused, especially the electrics. So you need to thoroughly inspect the Lion to be sure, at least, the electrics has not been abused to a large extent or at all. Even if it can be sorted out if abused, but you need to know the state of these things before you jump in. Trust me, Nigerians abuse their Lions with impunity. I know this because I handle them on daily basis. Notwithstanding, get the VIN and lets start from there. Ikenna |
hoodboy:I can help find out. Get the VIN. It's a 17 digit number. It will start with VF39... Meanwhile, is it Tokunbo or Nigerian used? Ikenna |
hoodboy:607 is a very nice Lion. I highly recommend it. The engine type will determine the auto transmission model. Which engine are you interested in? Good morning. Ikenna |
oba009:From your post, your mind is telling you the truth, only that you dont want to accept it. First, that Lion is not 2000 model. Its D8 (phase 1 406). The production stopped in 1998. He said the engine is turbo charged, can we see the engine bay picture? In fact, can you get the VIN of the car? Better still, steer clear of that vehicle. Ikenna |
tobeskie:Sir, the DVD treated your question. Notwithstanding, Total has recommended engine oil for your EW12 in Nigeria. Mobil doesn't have. Ikenna |
Its one thing to be doing something wrong ignorantly, but its something else to be beating your chest in the public about it. If Govt decides today to track and deal with Law breakers from social media, some people in this thread would lose their drivers licences or have theirs suspended or even cancelled in their database. Because you are not only endangering your life, but also innocent fellow road users due to atrocity you do by applying brake pedal with left leg. We can blame Nigerian roads most times, but most cause of fatal accidents that have claimed many lives on our roads were caused by road bad users. That you can turn steering wheel doesn't make you a driver. Its more reason I always recommend people should learn how to drive with manual transmission, because there is no way you will learn how to drive with manual tranny and drive like this. I strongly recommend anyone who drive in this very bad manner to go back and learn how to drive. Even if you don't value your life, do it for loved ones or innocent ones who you could end their lives with that. Ikenna |
What engine is in the car? XN engine? The most important thing in a Peugeot 505 is the body. If the body is still minty or in tact, but has dead engine or no engine at all, I would suggest you go for it, even if at a reduced priced. But if the body is on its way to the grave, but with a brand new engine in it, I would strongly recommend you stay away from it. No matter how new or good a 505 engine is but with a dead body, you wont enjoy the Lion. Take it from me, if you would listen. Look for one with a body in good body, irrespective of the condition of the body. You can easily rebuild the engine or replace the engine with a good one. But with a dead or rusted body, you don't want to go down that road. Ikenna |
Mecksmail:Of course, everyone is not expected to appreciate every good things in Life. So I wouldn't expect everyone to appreciate Peugeot 406. Speaking of cars suitable for highway, especially Nigerian highways, you really want to pull 406 vs Camry (big for nothing on highway) on that? Seriously? I mean, seriously? Ikenna |
Mecksmail:I completely understand you, that is, you are a point A to point B person, and there is nothing wrong with that. But then, I want more than that. So there is nothing wrong with any of that. Only that not everyone wants only point A to Point B in a vehicle. And I am just one of them. Ikenna |
Zane2point4:You really don't get it , do you? What makes you think everyone is carried away with "its newer, so its better"?. My point is, I own Peugeot 2000 model 406 V6 stick SV, yet I still drive 1986 Peugeot 505 V6 stick. And to tell you the honest truth, the love I have for my 406 SV V6 stick is not close to degree of love I have for my 505 V6 stick. As newer as my SV D9 is, I cant help but love sitting behind my 505 V6 stick steering wheel. Do you get that? If you are not a petrolhead, no Jupiter will make you understand that. Probably, you consider toys as pleasure. Sorry, I don't. There are more to that. That what makes two of us different in autos industry. Ikenna |
gidola:Kindly direct your question to the Lions Den sir. I will treat it there. Find link to the Den below: https://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-cars-attitude/59 Ikenna |
smankerana:I talked about absence of thermostat in Lions engine cooling systems in the DVD extensively. So get the DVD. The answer to your question is there sir. Ikenna |
filcast:Well, you can try that, since its much cheaper than replacing the engine. But usually, failed valve seals will emit blue when you start the car first time and would clear after few minutes. If it doesn't fix the shortage, then you know the solution. That's my opinion. Ikenna |
chucky234:It gives me joy to be the only guy that probably pulls Peugeot 505 V6 stick in town (Abuja). Its becoming daily occurrence, people asking me to sell the Baby to them. But then, she is already a family. So, she is going no where. Lol! Will be taking her for a trip soon. Ikenna |
chucky234:I still drive 505 in this age, incase you dont know or have forgotten. ![]() Ikenna |
filcast:You mean cylinder head valve oil seals? Ikenna |
