If EU eventually succeeds, then Euro cars will suck. The German auto makers will lose, since those their supercars production will stop. 90% of Benz, BMW and Audi owners drive them because of performance they offer. Why buy a performance car when it can't speed beyond 110 kph then? Do they consider what will it be like to drive a car you can't save yourself in when find yourself in a situation where you need to push the throttle harder to avoid a head on collision while overtaken a car and suddenly another car comes out from nowhere heading towards you? I wonder what it would be like when 80% of vehicles on highways are doing 110 kph? The terrible road traffic situation will become the order of the day on our highways then. Some still fail to understand that speed is not always the cause of accidents on highways. A lot have sent themselves to their early graves by swerving to avoid hitting a Cat while on high-speed. Some don't realise that highway is not for the faint-hearted. What this means is that Nigerians will stop patronising used Euro speccs cars, the EU succeeds. davonny: @ ikenna351Am not sure it can. Universal scanners can only scan your engine ECU and probably the transmission ECU, but am not sure of BSI unit. Note that your car has not less than 6 ECUs, including the BSI unit. Only the PP2000 can scan all those ECUs and tell you if there is any fault stored in any of them, what the faults are and how to fix them. Also, note that universal ECU cannot read all the faults in the Engine ECU. There are some hidden faults that will not trigger on the Check engine light. Such faults/error codes can't be be seen by the universal scanners, but the PP2000 can. In fact, PP2000 can detect when a timing is off, camshaft out of poaition or timing belt change not properly done, which could make the timing belt to break and will not trigger on the CEL, but PP2000 will see the codes. They are specific Peugeot error codes, which other scanners wont see and define. Ikenna. |
@ davonny, Please, you still haven't answered the questions i asked. Meanwhile, open the rear door giving you that issue (keep the other 3 doors closed). Switch on the ignition, get a screwdriver, find the door latch/catcher on the door and push in the lock pin with it. Check the multifunction screen, the door sign should go off, including the inner lights and those lights on the doors. If the lights remain on, with the screen showing the door still open, then there is a disconnection between the door latch and the BSI. Whatever your findings are, will take it from there. I hope you know what the door latch is? Mail me your phone number. Ikenna. |
@davonny, Have you checked all the fuses? Ikenna |
davonny: Mr IK, are you saying the only way out is to scan the car?PP2000 would have showed you the cause of your rear door issue. So, in your case, scanning the car with PP2000 is the best approach to solving this problem. Now, as for those lights that came up this morning, i would suggest you do the BSI reset again. How i wished you had a Diagbox. Or is there anyone that have it around your area? Ikenna |
Which of the engines, fuel type and transmissions are you interested in? Saloon or SW? https://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-thread-psa-community Ikenna |
davonny: Good morning house. Good morning mr IK. I did as u told me to do yesterday night. I left d battery in the boot and this morning after reconnection of d battery wires to d battery terminals I found out that nothing has changed instead the battery light in d dash board and d windows control bottons light on d 2doors came up even when the ignition key was stil in my pocket.Na wa o! Something is definitely wrong with your BSI. Now, let's start from the Genesis. At what point did that rear door issue started ? Something must have gone wrong. Did you do any electrical work on the car before noticed that issue? Before we go further, check all the fuses, both the fuse box under the steering wheel and the fuse box (BSM) in the engine bay, very close to the battery. And please house, try and get this Diagbox if you have not gotten one. If he had diagbox, this issue would have been sorted long ago. At least, we now have PP2000 that can be installed on Windows 7, which works very well. If you really really want to run your Peugeot with rest of mind, get Diagbox. Ikenna |
davonny: Thanks mr ik, for the response. I will do as uv said and give u reply tomorrow.Ok. Note that your key remote may stop working after the BSI reset. If it does, you will need to reprogram it. If you don't know how to do it, let us know, I will guide you on how to do it here. It's simple as ABC. Ikenna. |
Your BSI unit controls all the electronics, switches and all ECUs in that car, includinding the engine ECU. The BSI unit is the brain of that car. It's even more important than your engine ECU. I hope no one has slammed that your rear left door so hard to cause this? 406 doors were not designed to be slammed. Doing so could even immobilized the car. Always tell your passengers before the close the doors. They are not so 504s that can take such harsh use. Even the slamming of 504 doors is what kills their door catchers. The fault or the cause of the problem will be stored in your BSI. Scanning the car with PP2000 will show you the culprit or cause of the problem and how to rectify it. Am not sure universal scanners can scan the BSI unit. Or, you can try another reset method. Disconnet the two battery terminals, following the procedure. Then join the two battery cable connectors together (please, not the the 2 battery terminals o!). Lock the 2 together for hours. You can join themselves together this night and leave it till tomorrow morning and disengage them when you wake up. When this is done, it will reset the engine ECU to default. I want to believe it could reset the BSI unit to default too. Remember, the 2 battery connectors must be touching each others off the battery. They should be touching each other, not on the battery please. Tie them together with something. In fact, bring out the battery from the engine bay while doing this to be on the safe side. You can leave the battery in the boot. Give us update in the morning. Ikenna |
If i receive such plate number i will just go and sell the car, that's all. And better purchase a smaller car with a better plate number, cos a Good name is better than sacrifice and 'your plate number represents you.
Unfortunately, it won't solve your problem. Why? Because the number plate is registered to your name, your driver's licence. It has become yours permanently. Even if you want to sell your car at any point, you have to remove the number plate and sell the car without number plate. You can then register your newly purchased car with it. If you sell the car with it and the car is involved in a crime, you will be the first suspect, since your driver's licence details will pop up when the number plate is searched in their database. I think the only thing you can do is to reapply for a new number plate for that vehicle again, so that you can keep the "419" plate in your house without mounting it on the car, if it's allowed though. As for what you said about "your number plate represents you", it kind of made sense to me. My Baby's number plate is "505". Yes, a Peugeot 505 with "505" number plate. From remarks and comments i get each time i go out with it, it tells them a lot about the car owner, me. For example, someone has walked up to me and asked "You own this car?" I answered, "Yes". He then said, "You must be a hard-die Lion freak then". Of course, he was absolutely right. Ikenna. |
davonny: Hello mr IK and other lion lovers in d house. It appears your BSI unit software has been corrupted. Did you at any point disconnected the battery terminals without following the procedure? Did anyone played with the electrics that caused spark? Anyway, try the BSI reset first and let's see what happens. It has been treated here. You need to be careful with that car. Your BSI unit is there to protect your car from being stolen. Don't mess with it. Ikenna. |
Wow! Oga IK u na don check am sharply sharply? Thanks o Bro! Abeg I want to acquire ds machine, any more advice especially on d engine type? 170hp? Really? The car looks good on ground. If I eventually go for it what are d preventive maintenance dt u a always preach about? Thanks once again!
If you like and want to go for the lion, then you must be ready to buy a spare Motorised Throttle Body as spare. Brand new one cost 50k here in Abuja. The unite tends to fail after some thousands of km. Since you do not know if the previous owner has replaced the one on the engine, get a spare one and always keep it in your boot whenever you want to travel with the vehicle. If it decides to fail on the journey, in the middle of nowhere, then you can easily replace it by yourself or any mechanic around, since its a simple fix. Trust me, you won't find that part in every part of the country. It's the only EW series in D9 that have Motorised Throttle body. The others (EW7 & EW10) have conventional mechanical Throttle body controlled by throttle cable via throttle pedal, unlike the Motorised unit control by the engine ECU via a throttle sensor controlled by a throttle cable. Note that a failed Motorised unit will go into Limp mode. But with PP2000, you will be alerted when the unit starts failing gradually. EW12 has Euro IV emission programming. Meaning, it's programmed to go into limp home mode if the downstream sensor signals to engine ECU that your Catalytic converter is faulty. To prevent that, always buy good fuel. Make sure you use unleaded fuel. Car-doctor has enlightened us how to identify leaded from lead-free/unleaded fuel with colours. Red coloured fuel is leaded fuel, stay away. Lead fuel will kill your caty. Also, lead fuel will kill your upstream sensor (o2 sensor) faster and cause raw fuel to flood the caty and kill it faster. Be careful where you buy your fuel. Don't buy because the pump is good, buy for quality. I think the D8s don't have this issues since they have Euro III emission control, especially the ES9J4. Timing belt renewal? We have treated this severally. Finally, get diagbox or PP2000. It's a must tool. Above are the Preventative Maintenance tips for EW12 in D9. To enjoy that 170 hp, it comes with a price. But it's not a big deal. Ikenna. |
Please o! Am not saying there is something wrong with 419 number plate, even though e get as ebi. Well as far as Nigeria is concerned today, informally, another name for Thief is 419. As for 419 number plate owners, note that each time your Driver's Licence number is searched on FRSC database, 419 will pop up. Lol! Abeg, such number plate owners, make una no vex o!. I just dey reason am as i see am. Ikenna |

Digriz: Noting wrong cos my neighbour who is a building contractor is using a "419" plate number and it never affected his bizness, instead he's even getting more contracts and he's doing well.Well, if you say so. Forgive me, but i still dey reason am o! Hehehe! Of course, its just an unfortunate number one should understand. But mana.. Ikenna |
Cyberknight: During the days of the late, unlamented NITEL, one bank's phone number in one of its eastern branches ended in ..419. I remember hearing that they made rather strenuous efforts to get that changed.... However, I'd say that most people seeing a plate with 419 in it (like 666) wouldn't read anything into that.Toh! Ikenna. |
As Car-doctor suggested, your car has OBD-II port. Start from there, shikena. Lesson learnt, i believe. Next time, avoid swimming with your car. It's not a boat. That you see others doing it doesn't mean its safe. If you had done U-turn and tried another route/road when you saw that flood/pool or water, you won't be having this nightmare. Also, don't listen to "put the head, don't allow him to put head". Also, don't listen to "put head, nothing go happen". Something always dey happen in such situations. I was a victim. Back then while in Unizik, i was travelling with a guy and a chick in my father's Peugeot 504 GL. Sighted a Police check point afar and stopped. I told the guy with me that one of the vehicle papers has expired, i think the insurance. The guy pressed me to move, that "nothing go happen", as long as he was in the car. He even asked me to leave him to do the talking, incase they park us by the road side. Foolishly, i drove on (one of the foolish things i did back in the days i wont forget). We got to the check point and i slowed down. One of the Policemen peeped, saw two youngmen inthe front seats and a hot chick at the rear seat and shouted "Park!", pointing at the road side to park well well. "Am in for it!", i assured myself. The guy that claimed he would do the sweet talking jumped down and started what he claimed he would do to set us free. Before i could say 'jack', they have asked for the vehicle papers. I was looking at the guy wondering why the 'talking' come worsen the situation. By the time the policeman saw the expired Insurance paper, the guy no fit talk again. He quietly entered the car and kept quiet. It was more like "You are on your own". Na so i come start my own 'talking'. My own talking was 'biko' all through. There is no sound of 'biko' i didn't use that day. Eventually, they warned me and gave me back my papers and driver's licence. Since that day, i don't listen to any second opinion on where to drive or how to drive my car from anybody. Because when trouble comes out of, it will be on your head eventually. Summary of my story, if you see any level of flood that you are not sure of, do U-turn. I no dey 4 "its not too deep". Because no be you go fix am for me if the car kpafuga inside the flood. Ikenna. |
Yes, there is. Some cars are designed to target a particular gender. Ikenna. |
Last week, i was taking a walk and something caught my attention: a car with number plate that appeared to have funny figures. I looked closely but it was not what i thought, though close. The figures on the plate was '491', not 419 as i thought i saw. I got thinking immediately. What if someone goes to renew his old number plate to new one or pays for new registration, only to be given a new number plate with '419'. Would you collect, accept or reject it? Or would you shout 'back to sender' or "it's not my portion !"? Because, i do know certainly that we don't get to choose what figures we want on our number plates. You apply with required documents and a new number plate will be issued to you on the collection day. The number plate is already registered in your name and your driver's licence number/details. So, "it's not my portion! " no dey dis one. It's already your portion. Now, i know some people would claim "it's just a number ", but point at me a CEO or HR that would use such company car with such figures on the number plate to attend a meeting to woe a client? Because i dont see anyone doing business with someone who publicly declare himself a 419ner. A joke but very serious. There will always be that doubt. Meaning, another optiom would be considered, that is your competitor wins the person or you lose your client to your competitor, since you didn't appear a serious to do business with. Even as an individual, it may not show you as a responsible one to the some people or the public who may not have had chance to know you closely. First appearance tells a lot to others about us. Since you can't reject a number plate, what then would you do if get such wahala plate? Apply for a change or a fresh registration, if it's allowed anyway. Or could it be such number plates are not produced? But i know 418 & 420 exist. Do they skip the 419 then? I have been trying to reason this thing since last week, but couldn't land. Lol! What do you think guys? Ikenna. |

leuelliot: source www.carcomplaints.comPlease, Original Poster was asked to prove his stand on those vehicles he listed; to show us how he came to those conclusions. You should have leave him to do so. Besides, only 2005 Pathfinder is what i saw in the link you provided as one of the vehicles he listed, unless am mistaken. I would have wanted Chuqudy to tell us where he got to that conclusion about why prople should stay away from 2003 Peugeot 307 & 2007 Peugeot 407. Probably he had owned the 2 vehicles before. Even at that, if i my D9 V6 had an A/C issue at o point and i complained online about it, does it mean all 406 V6 produced the same year of mine should be avoided? Smh! Ikenna. |
chuqudy: Bros, you for leave those basttards to die in their sttupidity and ignorance. Well, since you have given them the source, no problem. But next time, they should mind how to argue what they do not know about. No body knows everything in this world.By the time you come back from your 7-day suspension from this section for insulting members (basttards), i will help instill discipline in you, which is obvious you lack. From one of your post here, it appears you are still a student of Tertiary institution or you just left school. Meaning, you haven't even started life. You probably don't know what it's like out there, yet you are going in this direction. You can choose to come back to Car Talk after your suspension or stay away. But if you do come back, then be ready to be learn. Moderator. |
Going by the forum rules, this thread would have been locked or hidden long time ago. But of course, i would have been called all sorts of names, as usual. Like i said to you in the other thread, Car Talk is not Politics section. My point is, if you don't want to modify the topic and your starting post of this your thread, i will help you do that, and you may like how i will do it. Ikenna. |
