RichyBlacK:
When it comes to human rights, national sovereignty has clear limits!

National sovereignty cannot be used to excuse laws that trample on the fundamental human rights of individuals. There are many examples where governments have been targeted and brought down by forces from without because the government overstepped their bounds. A good example is what the barbaric government in Sudan is doing to her citizens in Darfur. It is within the rights of the United Nations and the International Criminal Court to confront the tyrants in Khartoum and even force them to stop their senseless policies in Darfur. Part of the reason for toppling Saddam was the atrocities he allowed to be committed against some Shi'a groups in Iraq. The evil Nazis committed crimes against humanity when they murdered Jews who were German citizens. That those atrocities were legally backed by then German laws were and remain laughable excuses.

As far as I'm concerned, the fundamental rights of all humans, irrespective of geographical location, trumps any national laws. Hoodlums in power should not be made to think that their excesses will be ignored by other nations just because they're lording over humans who happen to be within their boarders.

The sad reality is that the United States government is guilty of this and also supports the misguided elements in Riyadh that use religion to terrorize ordinary Saudis. A close inspection of the laws in Saudi-Arabia and those adopted by the much-hated Taliban in Afghanistan would reveal very little differences, yet the United States is still mushy mushy with the Saudi monarchy.
You talk text book theory.

I once told you not to be deceived by the propaganda of the west, but obviously you did not heed that advise.

I also told you not to rob Peter to pay Paul, unfortunately you don't understand that.

I would take your examples one at a time and am not going to quote line in line in other that you understand am trying to summarize your view and convince you - if you posses the level of understanding I assume you should - that it leads no where.

Germany: The first world war was fought between Germany and the rest of the world, in the Germans quest to impose there ideology on the rest. Germany was defeated. Germany was asked by the then European council to pay reparation to all the nations that has been destroyed in the event of the WWI. Germany paid this unending reparation for years, and because most bankers at this time were Jews, the Jews enforced this payments. So money that should be used in developing Germany was diverted to other economies. This is where Hitlers hatred for the Jews came from, not to metion that he himself did not have it all rosy, just because of the crippling debt of Germany.

The rest I bet you know he made it to the sit of power, and his first move was to destroy all those that kept old Germany on its knees.

Starting with the Jews and the nations surrounding Germany in other that Germany's fortune will know no bounds. And maybe you don't know, the whole so called - well wishing German good citizens were behind Hitler. That was the only reason he was able to do all he did. He never went into their homes telling Germans if you don't support me you die. They willingly supported him as they too saw the benefit it would bring to Germany and it did bring to Germany. Becoming the 3rd-4th largest economy wasn't just a manner that dropped from heaven.

When Hitler was making this progress in wealth and geography, there were members of  the British Parliament who lobbied the then MP that Britain should join hands with Hitler and share the spoils of war.

But Churchill in his great understanding disagreed. They even told him that Russia was the enemy and not Hitler, that they need to join hands with Hitler so that they would be able to subdue Russia. Then came Churchills famous quote when he had to address the members of Parliament on his final decision. I quote:

"Even if Hitler invaded hell I would make a good representation of the devil in the House of Parliament"

So to cut the story, Hitler was not subdued for killing Jews, he clearly carried out his act with no restraint, He was only stopped for the fear that he might be too powerful and therefore unstoppable.

Iraq
Saddam killed 300 Shites for going against his government. Bad enough. But as long as you agreed to Saddams governance either shite or Sunni, Iraq was peaceful and you can travel about.

How many Iraq's has Americas invasion killed and still counting. Over 300,000 Iraq's

Sudan: Was it the International forces that started the war in Sudan, or the Sudanese themselves? Since the killing and displacement in Darfur for the first ten years, where were the UN forces?

Rwanda
Where was this your so called western civilised culture when the Hutus killed Tutsis. Even the little UN force that was on ground was pulled out for fear of there safety.

So Richblack back as I started you are talking text book theory. The day Saudi women decide it is time for a change, Allah, God or Zeus, whatever woke them from their slumber to demand the change would see them through.

At times it is better to argue like a child as ones view is less colored.

Saudi citizens are Saudi citizens, they take the pros and cons along with their citizenship. It is life and it has nothing to do with fairness. To say they are unfortunate to be born a Saudi is hilarious, as I could make the same argument for several other countries. You talk about them not being able to wear what they like, I ask if they have come to you to complain? or you are simply assuming everyone should think like you. BTW as much as you feel you have the right to wear what you want, almost every country has a law against indecent exposure. Who decides what is decent?

It has been shown time and again that forcing the way of life of one on the other, is never in the best interest of the latter. Each nation has its own laws, and I don't see what gives others the right to impose their own laws or way of life on another country. If you feel you care more about Saudi citizens than their fellow country men, you are quite mistaken. When enough Saudis have problems with their laws, they will make the needed change.

To assume your point of view is right, without any idea of the other side is simply being self righteous.
Basics.  cheesy

The Saudis these our Nairaland Messiahs are talking about live a better life in all standard as long as they adhere to the rules.

1. The average Saudi man or woman don't come to the west looking for Jobs, when they leave Saudi Arabia they are out to shop.

2. It is only in Saudi Arabia that a desert was turned into an agricultural farmland for the benefit of its people to ensure it can feed itself.

3. They are currently building the largest petrochemical refinery in the world to ensure there future youths have a job and there technology keeps improving.

4. There health care is better than what you get even in America. If you are a doctor or nurse and you want a good reward for your profession Saudi Arabia is one good place to go, as long as you adhere to rules.

5. Teachers in Saudi Arabia are better paid than there counter parts in Britain.

All this done for the common good of its people, and these Messiahs - Osisi and Savannaha think they are wrong.

Look guys I believe charity begins at home.

Why don't you guys save Nigeria first.  cheesy
Foreign AffairsRe: Saudi Arabia ,the Seat Of Islam Is The Most Wicked Government On Earth by Ikomi(m): 12:22am On May 14, 2009

RichyBlacK:
1. But what about Saudi Arabia's obligation (legally binding?) to uphold the tenets of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

2. If Saudi-Arabia goes to war with a country and captures soldiers from the enemy, are they supposed to put them under their laws or respect the Geneva Convention?

No country operates in isolation except those ruled by tyrants!
Then you have no case against Saudi Arabia.

Didn't the United States sign against toture? But Dick Cheney is everywhere aguing how the end justifies the means.

And like I say dont try to rob peter to pay paul, Saudi Arabia is not toturing its own citizens. Its a law in Saudi Arabia, its people have choosen to abide by that law. I dont see how your argument of torture comes in.

RichyBlacK:
The problem with your comparison is that you're not taking into consideration the power of religion in preventing change and keeping the status quo aka power structure in place.
That is still where am taking you to, that time is the best teacher and not the forces of other nations. A good example is Africa and presently Iraq.

Do you remember when religion was not differentiated from state in old France and Britain, when the church invariably ruled the state. It led to the Crusade, when thousands of Muslims were murdered in Jerusalem just because the then pope in his move to expand the reach of the church, ordered soldires to join the crusade in other to wipe out there sins.

Today the recent pope is clamoring for the Palestinian state.

Look young man don't be deceived, by the propaganda of the west, I just have not got time to really go into this discussion. Forgive me for this.

All am trying to let you know is that experience is the best teacher, no matter what you sign on paper, if your not convinced in your heart that it is the right thing to do, but you put down your signature just to be in the league of friends, your signature amounts to nothing.
Foreign AffairsRe: Saudi Arabia ,the Seat Of Islam Is The Most Wicked Government On Earth by Ikomi(m): 8:27pm On May 13, 2009
Look young man. You are not the advocate of those women. When they think the time is right they would fight for there own rights.

Afterall in old Britain it was the same women that stood up for there own right to vote, when women were not allowed to vote. Until someday a woman became the Prime Minister. Nobody imposed it on good old Britain that they should allow women to vote.

In America Blacks did not count for anything, but today they have a black man as the President.

In France there was a time when there was a great difference between the rich and the poor. The poor never walks the streets of the rich, until the great revolution. It was carried out by the poor French men themselves.

I could go on and on and on.

So my dear friend Savannah all these great so called democracies evolved at their own pace.

I don't see why they think they have the right to evolve at there own pace and others should be fast forwarded.

So my dear Savannah everything works at its own time, when the women of Saudi need your help am sure they would consult you. angry

It is easy to leave someone with their belief system til its your turn. Do you know how many foreigners and women are killed by these learned people because they are not allowed to properly defend themselves in court? If you go to Saudi Arabia and they decide to call you a witch, Christian or anything that will allow them to behead you without trail, remind yourself that they are learned.
Its as simple as ABC.

"If you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen."

If you cant stand Saudi laws dont go to Saudi Arabia. If a your visitor sees the food you dish out to him as stale, then let him not come back. Why must he try to change your way of life. angry

The same thing the colonialist did to Africa and we still have'nt found our footing till tomorrow.

What in the world makes you think your culture or way of life is the best? Cultures evolve, and like an ocean liner it takes time to turn.

RichyBlacK:
Saudi Arabia needs to climb out of the dark ages it has buried herself in for centuries and stop beheading women for very stupid accusations like "witchcraft". Witches are harmless members of society and are no more dangerous to society than a nuclear scientist is dangerous to society.

When will those idiots running Saudi Arabia behead a prince? Or the princes don't commit crimes? Such nasty punishments are reserved for the poor, those not connected to the so-called royal family, women, foreigners and migrant laborers.

It is sad that cruelty has come to define the essence of the wicked interpretation of Islam by an out-dated monarchy that is supposed to be a shining example of the benevolence of Islam.

While seemingly progressive Muslim nations like Turkey have banned the death penalty, socially retrogressive nations like Saudi-Arabia still relish the sight of the lifeless head of a middle-aged mother. Will the Muslims in Saudi-Arabia claim to be closer to Allah than the Muslims in Turkey? Allah will judge. As for me, I'm making my own judgment now:
A thousand shouts of shame to the entire government of Saudi Arabia!angry
I strongly think your attitude of jumping into conclusion sometimes is not very right.

If the Saudis believe that death penalty is the way to go, good for them, Saudis are learned pple on the average. The illiteracy level in many other nation is worse than that of the Saudis, but they have choosen that the death penalty is still the way to go.

So I think sometimes people should be left with their believes, and surely someday they would gradually grow out of it. Afterall when was the death penalty abolished in the Sates?  angry

@Osisi

That your Youtube video is quite funny.

I will tell you a story.

There was a day i was walking with my friend on the Street, and we passed one woman wearing a burka.

The woman even from the little I could see wasn't in any way attractive, in other words good looking would be an opposite description of her.

So thoughts were going in in my mind like - although I did not say a word - who do this women think there fooling telling us a woman's body is meant to be covered from prying men.

The next thing I heard from my friend was the funniest thing I could imagine. He went:

"What makes this woman think that if she walks naked I would look at her twice."  cheesy

In all modesty i couldn't help laughing out loud.  cheesy

Another incident happened.

I was at the bar with some budies so a woman in burka walked past, one guy said and I quote:

"You know you can't tell if thats a man or a woman in that thing."  cheesy

Very funny incidents. But I still believe we should be tolerant though, you never know one might need to wear the burka someday, if only to avoid your wife noticing you leaving your gf's house.  cheesy

A Kenyan man has sued activists who urged women to deny their partners sex for a week as a protest against the country's political impasse.

James Kimondo told reporters outside the Nairobi High Court his wife had observed the boycott and caused him "anxiety and sleepless nights".

"I have been suffering mental anguish, stress, backaches, lack of concentration," he said.

It is unclear how many women joined the strike, which ended on Wednesday.

I was just wondering:would you have voted for ANC if you were a South African? I lost faith and confidence in the party the day Jacob Zuma became it's leader. I don't believe in Zuma's credibility, and the way and manner he was dancing on TV today after a slim victory confirmed how immatured and unserious the man is. He behaves like our own Alao Akala who Gani described as a bush man. I think Zuma is a bush man too. I would never have voted for ANC.
I actually thought the same thing when I watched the man dancing, although I give him the benefit that it is his culture, however it was also Mandela and Thambo Mbeki's culture and we never saw them jig the way Zuma does it. cheesy

Seriously I have spoken to a few White South Africans, they all have serious concern about Zuma, they all believe he is nothing better than Mugabe. Though if you ask me I don't see Mugabe as all bad, but the beating and maltreatment of his people just to hold on to power is unjustifiable.

Even blacks in South Africa don't really think much of Zuma, they don't believe he would address there major concern which is poverty, most of them voted for ANC - something they are used to - which unfortunately has Zuma as the head and therefore the president.

I hope some South Africans would come in and express there view.

Zuma a man of many wives and possibly concubines. cheesy

Like Zuma or not he is the most powerful man in the southern region of Africa.
