The PL was tougher then than now. The quality of the players then were also better. Henry, Ruud, Ronaldo, Rooney, Shearer, are better than any striker in the PL today.

Rio, Terry, Campbell, Carvalho, Stam, etc are better than any defender in the PL today.

Vieira, Keane, Makelele, Essien, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, etc are better than any midfielder in the PL today.

It’s a myth that there are quality players today than back then. El Neny and Partey wouldn’t even make the bench of the great Arsenal sides I watched. McFred would be ball boys in the United squad I once knew.
