Candour: If you are honest and want to display a little candour, say it here and now. What informs your adherence to tithing? Abraham's example or the law of Moses?Jesus. i'm going out. i dey come. |
flexshop: [b]I honestly didn't want to go into the issue of tithe because I, havin divided the word of truth to show myself approved have known for ages that this issue of tithe is not a commandment of christ.never for one day did christ say I should pay tithe, instead he said I should Love my neighbour as myself.Like i said, you missed the point. Tithe is not the point, it is only one of the numerous practices that have being abused. Offerings and vows and firstfruits etc have also being abused. i am against the abuse of anything as well. but i do not hide behind one finger like most antitithers. Jesus told the pharisees to love their neighbours in Matthew 22. In the next chapter, He said to give tithes. You decided to pick one, no wahala. but do not tell us not to pick the two, that is where the wahala is. Yes Christ never had billions, but the Bible states that He became poor that we might be rich(whatever that means). We cannot judge people primarily and only on their possessions. Love of money is not necessarily measured by one's bank account. Luk 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. When you say "I don't believe we have true followers of christ." That pre states that you are not a follower of Christ. Are you? Others, i am coming to reply the ones that need reply oh. Go and start fasting and prayer ![]() |
Candour: How many of your errors that were pointed out have you admitted to? Have you admitted to your error on Oyedepo's little book yet? Pls bro, stop this sanctimonious demeanor. Its not doing you any good.No need to throw words into the air. Be specific. One, i am not Mark's standard so forget the "Image123 is also guilty" line already. Trying to bring me or anybody down does not erase the fact that Mark has side-stepped the pertinent questions he was asked and is instead more interested in telling us that Abraham has 3 wives. What are the errors pointed out to me? What is my error on Oyedepo's book? You told me that you keep some of the 613 laws, and i said since you do, then stop disturbing us(paraphrased). Mark has not told us if he obeys any of the 613 laws. i am waiting for him to tell us. |
nwuyag: You should notice the way I tried replying you, unlike me, so as not to enter into insults. The primary thing you need to know or be reminded of is that the REALITY of something is different from the UNDERSTANDING. That you do not understand God, or that we do not understand God does not erase the reality of God or of His attributes. That you do not get to clearly understand that God knows everything or is omniscient does not remove the FACT that God knows everything or is omniscient. Its like in school, there is a textbook filled with 'facts' and truths. You might have a good lecturer and you might be unfortunate to have a bad lecturer to explain and teach the contents of the book. The astuteness or incompetence of the lecturer does not remove the truth and the fact in the textbook. So, don't be so hasty to conclude that if you do not get answers(though i already showed that you do not want an answer and you just claimed that you do not need an answer) or get get good answers, then the textbook MUST be wrong. There are Bible verses that say that God knows everything. Here is one. 1Jo 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Evidently, i am sure that you are not okay with that. This is why i wanted to get you to actually think, against your default of wanting to refute/rebut whatever christian explanation that may be given. The usual practice of the unbelievers here is to kind of sedate their conscience by rebutting any christian answer(good or bad), instead of understanding and learning from the christian position/POV. So, the unbeliever is out to attack/rebut not out to learn/understand. In learning, you get to think and make solid conclusions. In attack, one tends to be bigoted and myopic. In etymology, context needs to be considered instead of some dogmatic insistence on dictionary. The dictionaries themselves get their meanings from context. That is why a word can have more than one meaning. A word can have 2 meaning in dictionary A and 5meanings in dictionary B. A word can have two opposite meanings. A word may not even be in a dictionary. A word may have one meaning in a general dictionary, and a different meaning in a professional dictionary(like a Medical dictionary or Engineering dictionary or geology dictionary etc). In the same vein, the context of the Bible should supersede any other meaning when discussing something FROM the Bible. This is because the Bible has its own definition and context of meanings, phrases and words. The Bible will tell you and define that God is love, i do not know of a dictionary that will say that. The Bible has its own definition for truth that is different from Oxford. It has its own meaning for being dead or being alive. And so on and forth. That is why, if the Bible says that God knows all things or that God is omniscient, you need to go back to the Bible and see the meaning, instead of trying to force and limit the Bible to google's meaning. |
Candour: Has the discussion suddenly shifted from tithes to Abraham's matrimonial affairs? It's not a distraction but a correction. A child of God should learn to accept his mistakes and be quick to repent instead of defending the indefensible. Abraham was not married to Hagar, i expect that you know this? Sarah was his wife and so also was Keturah. It shows how wrong he can be on so many issues, when he is wrong in this obvious issue. i recall asking the same Mark pertinent questions which he side-stepped and hoped it will go away. Here it is again i asked three questions na. Do you know all the 613 laws? Let me be clear please. You are saying you disobey all the 613 laws, you do not obey anyone. This was the issue i was discussing with him. His point is that anyone that gives tithes MUST obey a so called set of 613 laws. Is that your view too? If yes, please answer the questions in blue. thanks. |
Mark Miwerds: Uh... news flash, Olaadegbu.Genesis 25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. There's no need to argue pointlessly. |
Lordlexyy: You are obviously fighting a lost battle. After all the evidence ayok provided, like a gentle man i expect you to graciously take a bow or admit your insufficient knowledge on the subject matter. Your rebuttal, if any should largely concentrate on the consequences of alcohol. Pls don't try to provide any link to anything because that will be unnecessary and it will be considered as pride and ignorance. Bless. There's no fight and i have nothing to lose or gain. i've given evidence and answers on the same subkect matter in the past. The link is free for you to read and learn if you want to. It offers you detailed and educated explnations on all the wine scrptures instead of the emotional amusements prevalent here. Read if you have the mind. |
Most of this guys don't fail to disappoint. Unfortunate if i may so say. Perhaps it has something to do with the drinking. Anyways, for those interested in learning instead of amusing themselves. Please read this link and its following chapters. It pretty much explains what i may want to say on this thread, http://www.biblicalperspectives.com/books/wine_in_the_bible/1.html |
nwuyag: @ alcuini conclude that you are a lazy man and close-minded. He already answered your question if you cared to read. So did i and so did kabieosi. We've given yes, and we've given no. You really do not want an answer. |
Mark Miwerds: in other words, you see God as a liar. I understand. In other words, you are on the road to atheism? |
nwuyag: Just be open minded for once and focus on just the op.What is your definition of open minded, supporting your position right? The OP is what we are discussing oh. If you haven't seen where the Bible says God is omniscient, why are you asking questions about His omniscience from the OP? The example i gave is exactly what we are talking about. i told you that some words or phrases may be used in a different way from what some men perceive them to be. i told you that you need to look at how the Bible defines, describes and attributes omniscience to God. i'm not taking you round or playing on your intellect(whatever that means). i'm trying to have the two of us reason, like kabieosi is also doing. It's easy for us all to just come drop our opinions and answers. Some will like them and some will reject them. But i want us to think together, thinking is hardwork obviously, but i guess that's what unbelievers usually ask that we do. So again, i ask please. What would you define as omnipresence? If God exists, do you think He should be omnipresent? Would an omnipresent being be in your pocket and in your laptop? |
Mark Miwerds: Oyedepo's statement that "tithing does not work all of the time" should open the eyes of those who are being taught to tithe. Can i inform you that nothing works all the time, as it were. We are not discussing magic where you simply say "Hakakula" and the door opens irrespective of who or when it is said. Prayer does not work all the time. Giving does not work all the time. The name of Jesus does not work all the time(like the sons of Sceva showed us). And on and on. There are factors attached. Christianity is a life and relationship with God. Not some flash me prosperity quickie. i guess that's what you think it is, its why you feel so stunned and angry that it did not work that way for your mum. The Bible is complete and connected. It should not be disjointedly read or cherry picked. Like i usually tell Gosh and your other new friends, there is a cumulative understanding, not a fragmented one. |
@OP highyo: I know God will always stand by his words no matter. And he will judge every nature by his wordMake i come answer highyo my very person oh. ![]() This is strictly for highyo, in fact, i will not respond to anyone except highyo my person sef. You berra avoid my anger. Highyo, i love and appreciate your quest and thirst for holiness([s]hope this is not going to be long already[/s]). Indeed, without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. As a child of God, there is need to understand that God loves you, and does not want you to fall. Actually, He would do all He can to make sure you do not fall. He's got the Son praying for you. And also the Holy Ghost is joining hands. There is no need to live in fear pf condemnation. There is no condemnation for them who are in Christ, and that includes you, right? Yes, we should reverence God, but not treat Him like an horror movie. He loves you because He loves you. Understand the balance, and let your moderation be known to That being said, i believe Leviticus 19 is a very important chapter for at least three reasons. In other words, i appreciate and recognise the validity of your questions. 1. ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2Timothy 3v16). Leviticus 19 is part of this ALL SCRIPTURE. 2. Leviticus 19 contains one of the most important verses in all of the Bible. Check out the proximity to verse 19 your question sef ehn! ![]() Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD. This is the only passage where this quote is found in the OT BTW. Hear what Jesus said about it again. Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. In Matthew 22, He said that the whole Bible is hanging on it or something like that!! If i truly believe that the whole Bible is hanging on Leviticus 19v18, i would not trifle with or scorn any part of the chapter. 3. Paul talks of a similar passage and says that it was written for us. It's easy to think and believe that the epistles are written for us, or the new testament. But Paul quotes something about cows and says that without any doubt it is written for us. i'm like, i better get serious then. 1Co 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 1Co 9:10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. i'm guessing that if Paul said this things today on this thread, he would be accused of twisting the Bible, or being under the law, or trying to keep the abolished law of Moses. [s]Some fellows are even informing us that there are 613 laws, hehehehe, people get time sha[/s]. Anyway, Paul says of a similar, insignificant looking passage that For our sakes, no doubt, this is written. This tells us, that at the least, there is some application and lesson we can learn. That's what i'm going to try to state BRIEFLY, Amen. Now, please understand that God's statutes are not all about heaven and hell. There are some that even if you are not totally faithful at, you'll still "make heaven" but may lose some reward. Or may not enjoy life here on earth to the extent God wanted for you. 1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire Parents give different instructions to their children "Go and eat. Take your bathe. Wear your socks. Go to school. Don't touch that knife. Leave the kitchen. Do not drive the car". ETC Also, when God gives instructions,we should seek to know the context and the application. Would be great to do the chapter, but lets stay with highyo on this. Lev 19:19 Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle engender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee.-Thou shalt not let thy cattle engender with a diverse kind -thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed -neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee. Three statutes that basically teach us not to be unequally yoked. BTW, cattle is referring to animals generally not just cows. man is curious and wants to try out things. However, curiosity has to take safety and knowledge into consideration. You don't want your child curiously wandering into danger zones. This is what God avoided for Israel. In their age, there was no enlightenment and education as we have today. Even today, with all the data, information and knowledge, serious mistakes and costly diseases are still being churned out from experiments with animals and plants. In the developed regions, we have the rumors of being dumbed down by the engineered foods and crops and animals that they eat. Today we have a lot of control and quarantine. Nobody had such in Israel's time. Some curious fellow would just go give bird flu or some silly sickness to the whole land in the name of sowing mingled seed or engendering diverse kind. Like someone rightly said, it is like a child being kept from a knife or gas cooker. neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee. Many reasons are given for this, for those who study Bible commentaries. The reasons given are health, superstition and compromise with neighbour nations. The reason and application i want us to consider is MODERATION. Here is the parallel verse, for a fuller picture. Deu 22:11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together. In Bible times, we did not have the fashion industry the way it is now. It took a lot of effort and prestige to sew a cloth of different sorts. You'd not find the common man wear this sort of thing. When Jacob sowed something of this sort for joseph, his brothers got mad to the extent of selling him as a slave. We are not talking about ten year olds, this were adults! Gen 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors. Gen 37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. Its the same with David's child, Tamar. It was expensive royal clothing. 2Sa 13:18 And she had a garment of divers colors upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins appareled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. i'll quote two or three more scriptures to buttress. Jdg 5:30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colors, a prey of divers colors of needlework, of divers colors of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil? In the new testament, the believer is still told to be moderate in dressing. 1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array. Lev 19:27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. To be brief, this had to do with superstituous beliefs prevalent in those times. When someone died, the heathen people had a culture of shaving in a particular way and making cuttings on their skins. it was a part of their idol worship and communications with the dead. the Israelites were not to copy this. Notice how this shaving and cutting is linked with the dead severally. Deu 14:1 Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. Deu 14:2 For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. Jer 47:5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself? Jer 47:6 O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still. Jer 16:6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them: nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: Today also, christians should not be glibly sucked in by the customs and practices around. Don't just make signs and poses because everybody is doing it, or it is trendy. Do ALL things to the glory of God, live a purpose driven life. Highyo, hope its clearer? |
Ah ah na, image, The guy has some strong views, and unfortunately an unwholesome style of passing them across. However, make u no pass dat kain judgement on am na. Na u die 4 him sins? ![]() Let's all have a civil discussion in brotherhood.
i know him, that's why. No wahala, lets have a civil discussion. If he ever was purged, he obviously lacks the desired fruits.2Pe 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. |
Zikkyy: which one be humble pie? Am still waiting for you to provide the secret ingredients stated in oyedepo's little book. You know am not willing to fund oyedepo's next pj so I will not be buying the book. I decided to abandon your case here since you were not willing to share.Humble pie in the sense that you kept quiet about making ridiculous claims of a pastors gospel that tithe works all the time. i've given what you need, that is a popular tithe preaching pastor, stating in every chapter of his book that tithe does not work all the time. It's not a magic thing. Knowledge is power, do not settle for ignorance when you can be exposed to knowledge. It is very convenient to read or listen to nothing, and yet make ridiculous claims about pastors. Talk is cheap, truth is not. There are many ways to get access to a book asides buying it. Plus, its a small book. By now, with all the ten percent you've been hoarding, you should be able to afford a little book. |
ayoku777: The wine that Jesus drank at the passover is the same wine the apostles drink during the communion. The Bible claims that one can get drunk on non alcoholic wine. See these for instance. Isa 51:21 Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: Rev 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. To be drunken can refer to excess of something, like when someone is power drunk. Also, the wine Jesus took at the Lord's Supper was the fruit of the vine, NEW. Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. Mar 14:25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. The wine at Cana was also GOOD. It was simply the fruit of the vine, or vine juice abi na grape juice. Joh 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. |
1. Like I stated above, the verse does not. 2. Somebody disagreeing with your point of view don't make him "daft", a "hypocrite" or "ill-informed" The bible says something vital; James 1:26 ... If any man among you seem to be religious and bridleth not his tongue (or fingers ), this man's religion is vain.James 3:9-12 ... Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the simlitude of God Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethen, these things ought not so to be...
Kunle is not exactly what one would call a christian. |
Lordlexyy: On the basis of what was Christ accused of drunkenness? Was it on juice or alcoholic wine? The fact that drukenness was attached to what ever substance He took suggest that He actual took alcoholic wine. Moreover, Paul admonishing timothy to take a little wine, shows that the consumption of it is not sin itself but it abuses. Like timothy, most ppl take it for diff reasons, some for merryment which the bible is never against, others on health ground et al. Which ever way, the effect of it subjectively tells if you have sin or not, thus the scripture that says what a man takes in doesn't condemn him but what comes out of him.Oh, what of the fact that devil possession was attached? |
rationalmind: You didn't read my reply. If u did, I said, there is no such thing as God. He is not omnipresent neither is he omnianything. You shouldn't be asking questions about God na, since anything sensibly presented will only bring out the 'God does not exist' card. |
Joagbaje: debosky: I think image is saying you can tithe as a form of sowing and reaping described in 2 Cor 9. I do not believe there is any prohibition in this regard. I think he has stated that he isn't teaching tithing according to the law so the location requirement doesn't apply. You understand, thanks. |
rationalmind: I've answered this question of urs already. You asked before n I answered. I won't repeat myself.i know you did, you said He is not. So God is not in your laptop or pocket, yet He is omnipresent. Does that make sense? It makes sense to me BTW, i'm askin you. |
rationalmind: No he's not. He doesn't exist. He is no where. He isn't omniscient neither is he omnipresent.Hmmm, for the purpose of discussion na. Would an omnipresent being be in your pocket and in your laptop? |
Mark Miwerds: there is no tithe requirement of Christians today found in God's Word. God said His Holy tithe was for the children of Israel. He did not say it was for Nigeria. You saw that basic right? Then that deceiving spirit told you to ignore and forget it right? Then you divert to something else already discussed right? |
Mark Miwerds: what part of "I am not required to keep the Law" do you not understand?i asked three questions na. Do you know all the 613 laws? Let me be clear please. You are saying you disobey all the 613 laws, you do not obey anyone. |
Pastor Kun: Since when did a proverb of solomon become a commandment from GodYou're the artless dodger na, keep it down. |
DrummaBoy: So it is from Oyedepo that Image123 and his crew are getting their revelations on tithing. No wonder. I have stopped contributing to these debates bc it is so obvious there is something wrong with those who hold on tenaciously to tithing despite having been shown otherwise. I wish them all the best in their pursuit, worship and followership of Oyedepo and his heretical teachings.i actually missed you, you know. You often remind me of the scriptures that say be quick to hear and slow to speak. You know what i mean right? My mention of Oyedepo(for those that see without bias and hypocrisy) was to rebut and correct zukky's presumptuous claims that there is a pastor gospel that says that tithe will work everytime or something like that. i opened showed and quoted Oyedepo stating otherwise. i know him to be one of the major pastors whose church practices tithing in Nigeria and he is a model to many others. Instead of you all to eat humble pie like zokkyy, you're hear talking rubbish about worshipping Oyedepo. Next time, don't go making bogus unfounded claims. |
Mark Miwerds: I am not required to keep the Law. If I teach Law to the saved, it is only in its Historical background... not as present imperative for them. Image123: Do you know all these so called 613 laws? Is there any one of them that ou obey or you disobey all the 613?i didn't ask for all this story, i know them already. See my question again quoted. Do you know all those 613 laws? Is there anyone you obey? Do you disobey all 613? three cheap questions. |
Mark Miwerds: Paul was speaking of giving. When one gives sparingly, he will reap sparingly. When one gives bountifully, he will receive bountifully. Context shows that is exactly what Paul was speaking of.Oh, good. So we can actually sow and reap without agric produce being involved. This is exactly what we've being trying to tell you about giving tithe of what we sowed and reaped, but you insist that it has to be agric produce since agric terms are used. Would you see this basic, i hope so? |
Mark Miwerds: you are bound by the very Law you quoted above, Olaadgbu. But not only the Law of tithing (in which you offend God tremendously) but all 613 of the Levitical Laws.Do you know all these so called 613 laws? Is there any one of them that ou obey or you disobey all the 613? |
Image123: Just did a quick search to help some to a link that says something similar. Note the following quote from the link. Image123: Learned people know that the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, and that there is nothing unclean of itself. Learned people also know that every fruit contains sugar and ethanol. The content/percentage increases with fermentation. This is basic science and rural palm wine knowledge. Your sugar, your coca-cola, your medicine, lt all contains the likes of alcohol, cocaine, hemp and such banned substances. |
Pastor Kun: Why don't you just supply us scriptures that states it was forbidden instead of making daft assumptionsi see you dodged the two posts i gave past 12pm today. i already gave Proverbs 31:4 as well. There is no assuming. Timothy was permitted to drink wine on health grounds, yes or no? |
i know him, that's why. No wahala, lets have a civil discussion. If he ever was purged, he obviously lacks the desired fruits.
And listen to yourself, based of your daft logic you are saying Paul permitted timothy to sin on health grounds
you can as well say Jesus permitted his disciples to sin at the last supper and further gave all christians instruction to sin when he said we should take wine and bread in his memory.
