Giving of tithes is not parallel to ignoring Jesus' sacrifice. And I tithe from the heart so you guys should beat yourself again. God wants His people to bring the tithe, bring it. And that's just the start, because it ALL belongs to Him, not just a tenth. You struggle to part with 10% and boast of being able to give more, you're dishonest and lack integrity.

Many people give offering and alms with reward in view as well, should they stop giving? Luke 6v38 is most familiar. Many repent because of judgement, have they done wrong, or they're not true believers? The end of a thing is better than the beginning mr.

Who was God talking to in Malachi 3? He was talking to His children and I'm one of them.
What nonsense talk, I'm sure you don't ask such questions when reading passages like Deuteronomy 28v1-13 or Psalm 23 or 91.

You're blinded by your prejudice. I'm not making any comparisons of Jesus to 'later day criminals'. The issue at hand, remember, is that new believers should not be taught by anyone but the Holy Spirit. I'm saying new believers should be taught the Word of God. God has given us teachers, it could be my unknown sunday school teacher, or cell fellowship teacher, or the unremarkable brother who followed me up. Seeing you have a grouse with big preachers, go to them and settle it, not to nairaland or to me. I didn't buy anything from you, did I? And you're way wrong to say a particular human being cannot be born again. Thank God the book of life is not in your personal library.

I never said that a teacher should be limited, whether in Word or deed. What I said is that a teacher is needed, that's what the Bible says. He gave us teachers, don't tell me He didn't. So we're permitted to lead people to Christ. Some will not buy that idea i tell you, and they've got scriptures to quote for it. Jesus commanded us to teach, noetic says no, just lead them to Christ and then individuals move on from there. That's not in the Bible, thank God I follow Jesus Christ and the Bible, not your fine view.
Christianity Etc › Re: 30-day Back-2-basics Bible Digest >>> Viaro, Aletheia, &other Christian Teachers by Image123(m): 5:24pm On Jun 14, 2010
Our Lord Jesus was a teacher. Paul was a teacher. They both told us to teach others the Word.
In Matthew 28v18-20, we told among other things to go and TEACH all nations. TEACHING them to observe ALL things that Jesus commanded. He's given us the command, not only the Holy Spirit.
In 2Timothy 2v2 says what you have HEARD, commit to FAITHFUL men, who shall be able to TEACH others also. It's not the of Spirit of Christ to be unteachable, and everyone is not the same. You don't talk to people anyhow and say we're all the same. Christians are taught to respect authority.
God has commited new believers into the hands of His labourers to feed and teach, just as literal children are commited to the hands of their parents by God to nurture and direct. That's what we call follow.up in some circles. Children should NOT be left to themselves.

When you say things like 'who is a better teacher, it'll be better if they learn on their own, a human teacher doesn't impart knowledge but lives by example', all indications that people shouldn't be taught the Word of God, it begs your knowledge of the Word or plan of God.
Viaro has kinda explained issues to nuclearboy. Half truths are dangerous and polluted. I think you're standing on an half/polluted truth. Of course a believer should study the Word for himself. You agree that far, but it's beyond that. Teaching/teachers are what God has given the church for our development. Not one without the other, but the TWO.
A denial of this is a denial of the Word and will of God. Believers are sheep with shepherd(s). Hebrews 13v17 calls us to obedience and submission, not the independence of the prodigal Son that you're clamouring for.

I don't understand all this sort of 'aversion' for the teaching of God's Word or way. God gave us teachers for the perfecting of believers. What's with the solitary, individual search when all things are ready?
Agreed that there're false teachers out in the world, but I'll not subscribe to a child being left to himself. Foolishness lies in the heart of children and they sure need guidance to come good.

Hey, this isn't the best place to get this kind of help. But anyway, keep praying and thirsting. Those that thirst shall be filled, it's that certain. Also, you should watch your motives for the baptism more closely and make sure you're living a holy life because the real holy Spirit will only dwell in holy people.
Christianity Etc › Re: Jesus’ Test For Faith. Have You Tested Your Faith? by Image123(m): 3:20pm On Jun 13, 2010
As usual, you show your ignorance to the things of God. Those who know Jesus understand His statements better. By the way, many were said to have faith or full of faith in the Scriptures. Your idea was not the proof of their faith. Do you even know what faith is?

Forgive me for I'm a stubborn student. I'm not here i.e this thread, to teach(at least for now). I'm here to learn but the OP is telling me some books are not in the 'syllabus' and I'm like why? I guess the purpose of the thread is share fundamental starting points/bases for new believers. So the thread has a purpose. I'll re-phrase and say no book of the Bible is unnecessary for new believers.
One of my reasons is 1Peter 1v14-16 where Peter was addressing growing believers and using Leviticus 11v44. Also, we know that new believers face temptations and need to learn how to overcome temptation. Well, our perfect example who we're told to look unto overcame temptations in Matthew 4 by quoting Bible. Surprise, suprise, all 3quotes were from Deuteronomy. I hope you see why no book or Word of God is unnecessary for new believers.
BTW, please what is indoctrination and what is wrong with it?

The Bible says ALL belongs to Abraham? No, it doesn't. What it says is that Abraham gave tithes of ALL. It also says the tithes wasn't from Lot's possession or Sodom's possession. My 'arguement' therefore is that the ALL referred to was SPOILS(cf Hebrews 7). And the spoils were Abraham's possessions/increase/income coming from the defeated Chedorlaomer and his partners' possessions

Rules of engagement? How about purpose of engagement? Try purpose. If someone got yours and you went after him to bring back yours, would you consider yours as spoil?

Sorry o! I don't think any book of the Bible is unnecessary for any purpose. Let's be more humble to accept our little understanding of matters.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 3:59pm On Jun 12, 2010
Forgive me if I sounded patronizing, but retarded was NEVER in my thoughts. I wonder how you came up with that. You have a problem of which you accuse others, you're swept by the letter of the Word, not by the Spirit. I'm not accusing you, I'm telling you so you can possibly do something about it. Lot and his goods were not Abraham's spoils, he went to bring them back for Paul's sake

Good, you're coming up. Now, you should know that when Genesis says 'he gave tithes of all',Hebrews clarifies in case you missed it that 'he gave tithes of spoils'. He didn't give one tenth of the women or the people to Melchizedek, or did he? It says ALL but understanding should be profitable here to rightly divide the Scriptures.
I know military chaps in the Bible. I'll give 2instances. They didn't go to war with meagre. 2kings 7v5-16 talks of spoils enough to feed a nation. 2Chronicles 20v22-25 talks same. I'll not beat on explaining those passages and scoring a point. Those 2 should do, if they don't 10 would not. I repeat, spoils are not recovered goods.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 12:43pm On Jun 11, 2010
No, you still do not get it. The spoils referred to were the possessions of the kings, not the possessions of Lot and Sodom which Abraham went to recover/bring back. You don't 'bring again' spoils. I told you to compare with the lepers of Israel during the time of prophet Elisha. The points being that Abraham gave tithes of his spoils, not of the 4kings' spoils
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 4:20am On Jun 11, 2010
Wow, beats me! You still missed it? I said 'Coming from 4 kings or more' i.e the spoils were previous possessions of those defeated 'dictators', not Sodom's or Lot's or ZC's. I don't think you bring back spoils, they were never lost. I do hope you can see this, or someone can show this to you. This is the part you all kinda missed out/didn't get right.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 8:31pm On Jun 10, 2010
Hebrew 7 even makes it clearer in case you missed it. Abraham gave a tenth of the SPOILS. Recall, we went to battle with at least four kings. He came back with spoils, booty, loot. You may cast your mind and compare to the time when those lepers got spoils at the time of Elisha. Spoils could include food, jewels, clothes and so on. I doubt if spoils can be BROUGHT BACK/AGAIN.
Coming from 4 kings or more who had dominion for at least the past 12 years, I think the spoils must have been much. It was of these SPOILS that he gave tithes, not of Lot's property or kings of Sodom property or of women or people. These were Abraham's possession and it's this exemplary act that we ought to emulate as children of the promise and of faith.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 8:12pm On Jun 10, 2010
Sorry jare, don't mind my 'snaility'.
I was saying Abraham went to fight this kings and conquered. Automatically, everything belonged to him as you people have pointed in the other thread. But Abraham in his wisdom and magnanimity made some distinctions. Genesis 14v16 says he brought BACK all the goods, and Lot and HIS goods AND the women and the people. He could turn these to slaves if he chose to but he didn't.
When verse 20 tells us then that Abraham gave tithes of ALL, it's expected that in understanding, we be men and know that he's not giving ten percent of women, people, lot's goods, Sodom's goods and co, even though it reads ALL.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Lessons Of Giving And The Hypocrites! by Image123(m): 1:08pm On Jun 10, 2010
Nuclearboy and all
With some reference to your post on May 13,4:59 and some of your talk on the other thread viaro opened, I'll say there are some things that have been overlooked. As you may know, the people in old times were not what we may call 'civilized' people. They didn't live by principles of love, tolerance and peace that we take as normal today. What is bad bad today was some way of life in old times. People just conquered and conquered. If you're strong enough, you could just go on collecting the cities, wives and goods. We don't commonly do that today. Now, Abraham fought against at least four kings as mentioned in Genesis 14v1. These kings had conquered Sodom and others as you well know. Verse 10 says that the victors took possession of ALL the goods AND all the victuals and went their way. They ALSO took Lot and HIS goods.
