It hurts so much when someone you least expect hurts you. Speaking from experience, its one of the worst feelings i have had in ages. The ache just refuses to go away. When its a bad guy, you are ready and waiting for it to happen but this said "good guy" just takes you unawares. He really did stab my heart. Trying to forgive and forget the whole thing though havent got a choice.

Sorry about your experience . I love with my head rather than heart. My heart is too precious to allow any man to break, hurt or stab . Maybe my temperament has something to do with it

Can you guys please clarify this new sponsor letter which has to be filled by uk sponsor is it applicable to a student visa applicant too,cause on the website it states for visiting and stuffs like that but they were kind of silent on it for student visa application whose sponsors are in the UK.So my question is ,is sponsorship form required to be filled for student visa applicant who has a sponsor in the uk tooo?

The sponsorship criteria is relevant for employers who wish to employ migrants under the new points based system. For students, it is the College or University that applies to be a sponsor and thereafter sends a sponsorship certificate to successful applicants. A bit complicated i have to say, but make sure you check the home office website regularly to update yourself. The new Tier 4 for students is set to be activated from 2009 so no date is set yet. I assume you can still apply now based on existing rules.  Once a date is set and an announcement is made, then the new changes come into effect.

I wish we had more diverse and interesting TV series on this side of the atlantic, having said that though, i am not much of a TV fan.

The TV series in the UK suck somewhat. My current favourite series is LAW and ORDER, i like all three but slightly prefer Law and Order, the original series. I am loving the new season with the British Actor Linus Roache aka Michael Cutter

On the british side of things, Waterloo Road is alrite. . . for now

I think most nairalanders are ok, of course with the exceptionof the few bad eggs as is common in any e-community. I dont mind meeting more if time and opportunity permits. Meeting a female will be more interesting for me

Working holiday makers will not be able to switch their status again in UK. They have to get out of the country(UK) first.

Hasn't this always been the case? Is this part of the new immigration changes being brought in. I have been following up on the Tier 1 but not working holiday visa.

Sometimes it is not what you say but how you say it or any underlying inplications that gets on people's nerve. A word of advice, sometimes, your opinions are just that, yours, so no need to voice some of them. I am all for "free" speech but it is not really "free" if you offend others. Also, you never know what goodwill you may be missing out of just because people form a negative opinion of you based on your assertion rather than understanding where you are coming come when you state your opinions.

What do you expect from a country where every name is preceeded by a title.

Engineer this, Architect that, Surveyor those, Accountant us.

God Forbid that anyone without the appropriate title be given the portfolio that does not fit.

Why does this have to be so?, This is part of the mindsets that holds us back from giving the right and most competent person important jobs in Nigeria. The culture of "i rub my back and you rub mine" is wrong but it is endemic to us.

I am inclined to agree with 4play on this one.

While for some jobs, a specialist degree may be important, this is not the case for most jobs/careers. Technical knowledge is becoming relevant only in minor occupations. The focus of "transferable skills" in the UK, has made many jobs open to most degree holders, with the hope that the new employee with a different degree will bring a different approach to the table.   Now, this appraoch can only work in a system that doesn't mind taking risks, thinking outside the box or being creative and exploring other alternatives. The Nigerian situation is different. People like to live in their comfort zone and do things just like it has always been done and also tend to resist change. If employing technocrats for the same always gives the same result, why not try another approach? Having a system where roles are rotated and people get to experience how different departments or areas of the business or sector work will help people to be diverse in their approach to issues and also "naturally select" those that are able to cope well and succeed in spite of where they find themselves. We need more people who have risen up the ranks and have vast experience with them and are able to succeed wherever they find themselves, not those who think they can do the job simply because it is their field.

ok. you want to know the bad experience. let me tell you this:

I met this guy on nairaland and he sent me a mail. later after so many efforts, i replied his mail and he sent his number to me. i sent my number too and we got talking for about a month. he insisted on knowing my office which i described to him anyway. he had lied earlier that he is working in IBTC. when he told me he was coming to check on me, i asked if he was on leave and he said no.

he came and i met the disappointment of my life. he wore a grey suit on a green shirt. the shoe looked horrible. he laughed and said ' gentledove, how a u?' like a typical ibadan man. i was pissed off. i invited him to my office and he looked round and nodded. i asked why he did that and he said God has told him some things. that i will be his wife. i laughed and offered him coffee which he gulped as if he has being hungry for years.

i then mentioned his name and told him to speak on since he said he has something to discuss with me. he laughed loud and said ' first, how do i look?'. i told him he looked good. he laughed again and said, ' i have ebing praying and God said you are my wife. although i do not have a job now but i know your job will keep us together in love'. he blabbled and blabbed. i was shocked to hear that he does not have a job because he lied that he works with IBTC.

fortunately, my guy called me just in time that he is coming to give me something in the office. he came and i introduced him to the guy ' HE, meet so and so'. the guy stood up in anger and said ' i[b] tot you are still single. what are you doing on nairaland if you are engaged? abeg i dey go jare. na wa o. so u don get someone before'[/b]. he hissed and walked out leaving my guy and i shocked. he spoke like all these Pasuma boys.

i don't know that Nairaland has become a dating zone for people looking for husbands and wives. this guy is really a big bad news. it made me remove my picture from my profile and made up my mind not to respond to any email from anyone on nairaland again.

I secretly e-admire two nairalanders. The key word is admire not in love/lust/luff. Both are rumoured to be in relationships with female nairalanders. They are both intelligent but most times come across as arrogant to others. I am not sure of their physical appearance but it has been stated that one of them is ugly, short and has yam legs , according to those that have seen him or his picture, so i think i will pass over that one.

Hmm, this is an interesting situation. I will come back with my response later.

While the Silverbird Galleria is a nice structure, apart from going to the cinema there, how many people can afford to shop there? I am guessing typical nigerian attitude will be " how can they sell this product for soso amount when i can get it for much less at Katangowa"

I have met two nairalanders, both guys. They came across as pleasant. One was more chatty than the other and we did have fun. Don't know if we will meet again anytime soon due to location. I tend to move around these days.

what if the friend never finds out in good time and the situation gets to a dangerous stage that could have been avoided if he had spoken up. While i agree with the poster not wanting to be the cause of a marriage breakdown, i still think he should speak up, obviously, it is a delicate situation that needs to be handled in a matured way.

Personally, the closeness of my friendship to my friend will determine my actions. Sometimes, not coming directly but giving subtle pointers to the wife's behaviour could speed up his curiosity. Confronting the wife is another option but is equally risky. At the end of the day, there are no winners

I think the bills should be shared between both parties, not necessarily equally. Except a couple earns exactly the same, which is rare, the party who earns more should, in theory, take care of most of the bill. Another option is to have a joint account which both parties are to remit an agreed amount into monthly, and which should be controlled by who is more financially responsible. . .most times, this is the man, but increasingly, more women are taking charge.
