This is a smart move to always have their business interest secured. In a sane country, you shouldn't be making that high profit margin especially on an essential product that can cause housing deficit. Well, since there isn't any patriotic "political leaders" the people will continue to bear the burnt.

Nothing is ever good for people like you. If the government addresses the situation, you complain, if they ignore it, you complain again. This is obviously a stopgap solution and nobody is forcing anybody.

The guy is reacting because that isn't even obviously a remedy yet. Why not address the main ready there was shortage in the first place, which is improved welfare for the serving health personnels, conducive working environment, etc. Enticing some already exhausted old guys who are better of cooling with their grand kids across the world and playing the role of an adviser to be actively involved in service is a low blow.

The former minister is not active at all. We only hear from him whenever he wants to announce public holidays.

He is a clear example of someone ready to work & build his profile. Not that one that is just filling space as a core politician. Nigeria need someone like the current minister as the president, one who is very smart, innovative, young, positive thinking, has the welfare of the people at heart, the energy to closely monitor & be involved in the process personally.

You have a valid point, however if there are strict criterion for career progression. A lot won't be gifted that position. It can also be a ceremonial position without needing to head the full ministry. Like in the police, not all commissioner of police head a state as the CP, the rank can be given and such a person posted to various supervisory departments/duties. Because like you said the person is a civil servant who is entitled to the service rule of 35years or 60years old.

Since when did competence form the bases for political appointments in Nigeria. Even replacements or recruitments in several public and private sectors use connection as the criteria.
