@op, Thunderbolt pose doesn't facilitate an actual increase in height as this is dependent on genetic and environmental factors.

The supposed yoga exercise will help straighten your spine and aid proper posture. This can make you feel taller or make you appear taller.

agonbello: Bro, all that you mentioned are simply qualities a good entrepreneur should possess.
They are not. Those are definitions given by people who have succeeded. The definition of a word or concept is transient.
As you develop the meaning of a concept changes, so does your definition of the concept.

BusinessRe: Why I Think Being An Entrepreneur Is Over-hyped by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 7:17pm On Sep 15, 2014
Like I stated in my original post. These points are purely my opinion and based on observations.

To clear the air-ways, I am open-minded, open to intellectual argument, and flexible to change. After going through several comments, it is obvious that the original intent of this thread has been misunderstood by some people.

The original subject is what makes an individual an entrepreneur? Does owning a business make you an entrepreneur?

Going by the popular Wikipedia definition, an entrepreneur is someone that organises or owns a business, I am wrong.

My initial understanding of the word entrepreneurship didn't cover this meaning.

Upon future probing on Wikipedia and other online resource, I found the definition that is in line with my original intention.

Some of which are:

Dan Sullivan of Strategic Coach
“ An entrepreneur is someone who does
not expect compensation until he has
created value for someone else . ”

# 2 Jean- Baptist Say, French Economist
“ Entrepreneur is someone who takes
resources from a lower level of
productivity and raise them to a higher
level . ”

# 3 Peter Drucker , Renowned
Management Guru
“ An entrepreneur searches for change ,
responds to it, and exploits it as an
opportunity . Innovation is the specific
tool of entrepreneurs , the means by
which they exploit change as an
opportunity for a different business or a
different service . ”

# 4 Ray Ash, co - founder of Litton
Industries
“ An entrepreneur tends to bite off a
little more than he can chew hoping he ’ ll
quickly learn how to chew it. ”

# 5 Michael Gerber , Author and
Entrepreneur
“ The entrepreneur is our visionary, the
creator in each of us. We ’re born with
that quality and it defines our lives as
we respond to what we see , hear , feel,
and experience. It is developed ,
nurtured , and given space to flourish or
is squelched , thwarted, without air or
stimulation , and dies . ”

# 6 Tom Peters , Management Thinker
Extraordinaire
“ An entrepreneur is occasionally
exhilarating , and almost always
exhausting . Only unbridled passion for
the concept is likely to see you through
the 17 - hour days (month after month )
and the painful mistakes that are part
and parcel of the start - up process .

# 7 Victor Kiam , Former owner of New
England Patriots
“ Entrepreneurs are risk takers, willing to
roll the dice with their money or
reputation on the line in support of an
idea or enterprise . They willingly assume
responsibility for the success or failure
of a venture and are answerable for all
its facets . ”

# 8 Joseph Schumeter , Austrian
Scientist
“ An entrepreneur is the ultimate
innovator and earns his profits , however
temporary , from successful innovations. ”

# 9 Robert Callington
“ An entrepreneur is someone, who
practices business judgment in the face
of uncertainty of the future . ”

# 10 Dick Costolo , CEO of Twitter
“ The key is to just get on the bike … and
the key to getting on the bike … is to stop
thinking about ‘there are a bunch of
reasons I might fall off ’ and just hop on
and peddle the damned thing. You can
pick up a map, a tire pump , and better
footwear along the way . ”

# 11 Nolan Bushnell , founder of Chuck -
E - Cheese and Atari
“ The critical ingredient is getting off
your butt and doing something. It’ s as
simple as that. A lot of people have ideas,
but there are few who decide to do
something about them now . Not
tomorrow . Not next week. But today . The
true entrepreneur is a doer . . not a
dreamer .

Based on these definitions, I believe every aspect of the proper use of the term entrepreneurship has been equally covered and substantiated. But we should have it at the back of our minds that the world now thrives on innovation and being successful may not only mean hardworking but also smart work.
BusinessRe: Why I Think Being An Entrepreneur Is Over-hyped by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 12:12pm On Sep 15, 2014
And to those calling me dumb, you are entitled to your opinion.

I never said being Bill Gates makes you an entrepreneur. But you will agree that these men are risk takers and innovative.

Go to universities, you will lose count of the number of "be your own boss seminars". While these may motivate you to act, the truth is that not everybody will act. The number of those that act and quit afterwards because things don't come easy is relatively high. Does this make you an entrepreneur?

IMO sitting down and doing nothing doesn't make you an entrepreneur, neither does being skeptical and sitting on defence make you one.

And like one of the comments, the definition is subject to personal interpretation.

MyIncorp: I think the fuss should be: is a business owner an enterpreneur?
Exactly.
BusinessRe: Why I Think Being An Entrepreneur Is Over-hyped by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 10:16am On Sep 15, 2014
@mylncopr the basics therefore becomes who is an entrepreneur and what what are the qualities that make an individual an entrepreneur?

Going by your definition, ability to commercialize an idea and get profits in return, does this make a blogger or a market woman an entrepreneur?

Yes, I totally agree with your definition, but I think what is missing in the Nigerian system is over-use of the word, fear to invest or take risks, and outright lack/blindness to innovation by a majority of "entrepreneurs".

Not everybody is meant to be an entrepreneur. And a lot of people that call themselves entrepreneurs are sellers and hustlers. The title is so being misused, that's my point.

autofreak2020: Thank God it is your opinion.
And if it was a fact?
BusinessWhy I Think Being An Entrepreneur Is Over-hyped by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 7:50am On Sep 15, 2014
This is obviously my opinion and I am writing as ideas come to my head.

In recent years the word entrepreneur has gained popular usage. Everybody doing a business wants to be called an entrepreneur. This is also applicable in engineering and medical fields, a phone repairer is an engineer and a chemist that dispenses drug is a doctor.
This is quite explanatory, I mean who doesn't want to appear up there? Nigerians have this knack for big names.

Now over to entrepreneurs. The recent trend in help your self and don't wait on the government, unemployment, and an endless resource of people telling you entrepreneurship is the way are not helping matters.

Trust me, I will be an entrepreneur if I sold fishes. I would be an entrepreneur if I sold recharge cards. My tussle is not with these guys.

My tussle is with thousands of self-acclaimed CEOs who want quick money.

To buttress this point, go through the web. The web is actually an hyperbole, go through nairaland. What do you find, several businesses (more appropriately, business persons) trying to advertise in threads. They don't want to advertise using the standard means.

A shift from adverts, you will find several "1st in Africa" and "1st in Nigeria" CEOs with poorly designed sites and in some cases no logo.

In conclusion, while I may be seen as a hater, or someone who doesn't understand the economic conditions in Nigeria, I perfectly understand that an entrepreneur is a risk taker, an initiator, someone who will give everything to succeed.

ladywriter: It is risky working outside freelancer. I don't do it. You may end up in a tight corner where you will not be paid. Tell the employer to work with you on freelancer. It is safer for you.
Risky, but you can try as a starter. You are not losing up to 3,000.

Although I have lost probably a 100 bucks or more. I hardly get clients from freelancer. The first set that hired are still giving me jobs and it's outside freelancer. I send them invoices or we have a running project. This way I don't pay extra when accepting new bids.

What I do, you have to pay after the 1st article or 1st 5. And 1 last tip : guard your bids with all diligence.
I noticed a current trend of employers without review looking for freelancers. They then refer you to another site to register or work.
No gree oh.

Art, Graphics & VideoWhy Graphics Design Will Remain An Overlooked Profession. by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 12:30pm On Sep 01, 2014
I am probably nairaland's top fan, monitoring sections that interest me daily and sometimes hourly. Obviously I enjoy graphics design and while I may not boast of an extraordinary portfolio like some of my ogas, I can boast of good and well thought out jobs.
OK unto the topic. It is rather amazing the number of people that flood each thread offering free logo designs. Interestingly, some of these people move from thread to thread requesting for logo variations.
I am not against free jobs mind you as I have done a couple myself. This helps the designer build a portfolio and confidence/skill.
The boomerang effect of this is having some clients negotiating price like it's garri you are selling. Afterall they got a free logo in less than two hours.

Now the business part. My mum always told me that you use money to make more money. If you are not willing to invest or "spend" in your business how do you expect not to quit? Afterall, blogger is free, WordPress is free, logo sef kukuma be free. At the slightest challenge, you back off and search for the next viable means of income.

Well this is my opinion and it is subject to criticism. In well done.

2sExy1: Do we have any graphic designer here? I mean a very good one? I have an idea for ya...

If you don't know, I am a domainer by passion and sell web names when the opportunity present itself smiley.

But there is an emerging trend among a certain circle of domain sellers who specialize in brandables. Brandables are made up non-dictionary words and they often need graphics to convey the meaning of the made up words. You can snoop around namepros.com or dnforum.com to find a niche for yourself.
Yes, you do. I am a graphics designer.

From what I've been observing on personality including you,I can see you people are just coming and new in the online business stuff which is the reason you people have been thinking in the wrong and biased way.
I will point out your obvious mistakes if you are too blind to see. Obviously you lack self control. Your points are rather shabby and inarticulate. Finally you are a proud mofo. Nobody, I repeat nobody insulted you here. You are the Guru Maharaji to easily identify newbies, people that didn't go to school, and low-levelled personalities. I don't think there is nothing bad on how I started the introduction of using PayPal instead of relying on payoneer only putting egg in one basket(just try browsing to the 3rd or 4th page to see how it was presented) that she took it personal talking as if I was here to mislead people trying to tarnish my image.
It was then I have no option than to defend what I'm in to let them know that I'm not here for that.It was then she took it more personal along with some one-way traffic dudes.
Eventually, I just had to comment. LegalWealth you talk like a woman without self control. Quit repeating the same explanation a thousand times. Haba. If you have an alternative, put it down on the table. If you options are rejected, walk away. Shikena
