I feel so sad as I write this post. Yesterday, InfoNubia posted a breaking story about shots being fired in front of U.S Capitol Hill. It turned out that the suspect who rammed barricades and led police on a chase near the U.S. Capitol is 34-year-old Miriam Carey, a dental hygienist who has been battling postpartum depression shortly after giving in August 2012. Sadly, Miriam was shot and killed during yesterday's chase. She apparently did not have a weapon, but did have her 1-year-old girl in the car with her while all these happened. Some time ago, I wrote a post on the dangers of postpartum depression after reading about the story of another woman who committed suicide few hours after dedicating her 3-month-old baby. According to CNN reports, authorities found medications to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders in Miriam's apartment. This discovery of psychiatric medication happened after Miriam's boyfriend told the police in December that she appeared to be delusional, believing that President Barack Obama had placed Stamford, Connecticut, where they lived, under lock-down and that her home was under electronic surveillance. As I read the story, I was torn between two. On one hand I'm thinking the law enforcement had to take action given that the Capitol Hill is one for the most heavily policed place in the world and trespass would be forcefully repelled. On the hand, I think it wasn't necessary to gun Miriam down, especially with a baby in the car. I think the police might have gone overboard on this one. Shoot the tires out, disable the car, but kill her? I just think it's a little too much. Needless to say, she was unharmed. One might make the argument also that what if she really does have an explosives in the car? Many of us would question why the cops didn't take her out in the first place. In this day and age, any attack on the White House should be taken seriously. While I'm still lost in my thoughts about where I stand on this situation, one thing is clear; friends and families need to pay extra attention to nursing mothers, especially when there is a trait of depression after child birth. According to Xavier Amador, a psychologist and expert in schizophrenia and other mental health disorders, it is possible the medications found at Miriam's apartment were prescribed for postpartum psychosis, a rare illness that usually comes on suddenly within the first four weeks after birth. I feel bad for Miriam's family, I feel especially bad for her poor child. May her soul continue to rest in peace. Share your thoughts... Do you think the police went overboard? Or they were just responding to a threat and within their rights to shoot Miriam? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/10/miriam-carey-woman-shot-by-capitol-hill.html |
Tinkybabe: Such a lovely dog. ![]() |
Ray McBlue: The man must be a pretty bad shot. 19 rounds and no hits?! Either he wasn't intending to really hit anyone, or he was a really pathetic shot. Probably the former...I want to believe its ur first assumption. |

Here's the latest update: U.S. Capitol Police lifted a shelter-in-place warning at all U.S. Senate office buildings on Thursday after multiple shots were heard in the area after a female suspect who struck a barrier near the White House with her car led police on car chase that ended near Capitol Hill. A U.S. Capitol Police spokesman said that one officer was injured in a crash while pursuing the suspect. The Associated Press reported a female suspect was in police custody. Earlier, ABC News and Reuters reported the suspect was dead. Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer told reporters he did not know the condition of the suspect, but did confirm that police located a child inside the suspect’s car. “We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident,” a police sergeant told reporters. Tim Wilson, a spokesperson with the District of Columbia Fire and EMS Department, told Yahoo News that medical personnel transported one patient from the scene who suffered life-threatening injuries. He would not give the gender of the patient or the nature of the injuries. Earlier, police could be seen swarming the grounds near the U.S. Capitol building with guns drawn. Yahoo News reporter Chris Moody was outside the U.S. Capitol when he heard three shots ring out. About half a dozen police cars sped west down Constitution Avenue toward the scene. Moments later, other police vehicles sped back the other way. Capitol Police told tourists and staffers near the Capitol Building to walk south past the U.S. House's congressional offices, and all buildings were locked down. "Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows," the alert issued early Thursday afternoon, read. "Take your annunciators, emergency supply kits or go kits, and escape hoods. Move to your office's shelter in place location or the innermost part of your office suites and check in with your OEC." Other staffers waited outside until the lockdown was later lifted. One eyewitness told Yahoo News she saw a black car being chased by police and they surrounded the suspect when the shots rang out. "Police were shooting at [the car]," a witness told Yahoo News. "They had [the driver] blocked up and he kept going around the Capitol building and around and around. Then I heard a loud crash on the other side of the Capitol." Another witness said police began shooting when the car sped off after being trapped. "We saw a black car and a couple of cop cars behind him," that witness said. "He kind of got stuck in front of the Capitol building where the pillars are. The cops got out of their car and surrounded [the suspect] and started yelling. Somehow [the car] turned around and almost hit a couple of them and that's when the cops started shooting." Outside the White House, white-uniformed agents of the Secret Service kept tourists across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House gates, behind crowd barriers typically deployed when a visiting head of state is staying at Blair House, nearby. |
The Capitol was locked down Thursday after reports that shots were fired outside one of the House office buildings. Some lawmakers said seven or eight shots were fired, and that they seemed to be coming from the area of the Rayburn House Office Building. Capitol Police ordered people to remain in the buildings. Pennsylvania Avenue was also cleared because of the shots, and Secret Service agents could be seen putting up barricades across the street from White House. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) said he and other lawmakers standing on a balcony outside the House chamber heard seven or eight shots. Emergency vehicles swarmed the area of the U.S. Capitol on Thursday after an order given over the speaker system told people to shelter in place because of an active shooting situation. According to reports, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said there was one person injured. The event is still unfolding. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/10/breaking-shots-fired-on-us-capitol.html

tnature: Door to door evangelism works better in the third world countries. This situation is so pathetic . This will never happen in Africa cos people don't have easy access to guns.I wasn't even thinking about door to door evangelism when I wrote this post. This lesson isn't just limited to sales people. Churches can also take a cue from this. |
SniperInADiaper: Chale, that guy is a bad aim!Lol...I don't think he really wanted to kill those guys. Probably wanted to scare them so they never come back. |

The video of a terrifying road rage incident involving a group of bikers riding in New York City and a Range Rover SUV driver has gone viral online. The bikers chased and then attacked a 33-year-old man driving a Range Rover with his wife and 2-year-old daughter after the SUV hit a motorcyclist and broke his leg. The SUV driver pulled over, and the bikers surrounded his vehicle, hitting it and spiking the tires, police said. The driver pulled away, hitting three more bikers in the process, police said. During the six-minute encounter, the Range Rover driver slowed down enough at one point for a motorcyclist to get off his bike, run up to the SUV and open the driver's side door before the Range Rover fled again. Finally, after the entire group turned off the highway and the SUV rolled to a stop, motorcyclists ran up to Range Rover and one biker, using his helmet, began smashing the windows of the vehicle, the video shows. Other bikers joined in before the video was stopped. The SUV driver was cornered and beaten, according to police. He was later treated at a local hospital for slashes to his face and released. His wife and child were not injured. Watch the video and share your thoughts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukdkgLYYbw Who do you this is at fault? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/10/video-father-with-family-in-suv-chased.html |
Most of us at some point have had encounters with Jehovah Witnesses. While some encounters are pleasant; you kindly tell them you aren't interested and they leave in peace, some aren't. If you tell them you are busy, like a salesperson, they try to reschedule. But going as far as firing 19 rounds? I think that's going overboard. Centeron, Arkansas police said 35-year-old John Baldwin fired about 19 shots at a group of three Jehovah Witnesses after telling them to get lost. According to reports, everything was fine when the Jehovah's Witnesses first arrived at Baldwin's home on Saturday. But when Baldwin learned the men were Jehovah's Witnesses, he allegedly told them to "get the [expletive] off my property" and said "Get me my 9" as the men were getting into their car. Police said they found 13 shell casings and a Springfield XDM-9mm handgun in front of Baldwin's house, according to reports. Baldwin was arrested and released on $50,000 bond. He will be charged with felony aggravated assault, the station notes. Luckily, the three men escaped unhurt. Baldwin could be slammed with a $10,000 fine and jailed for six years. This could also happen to folks who do door to door sales job. Please be careful. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/10/man-fires-19-rounds-at-jehovah-witnesses.html |
Rhythm: Yeah dogs absolutely deserve a place in the front page, especially since you were the first to comment.Sorry about that Rhythm. The video shows an "awwww" moment when a gentle dog tries to persuade Little Hernán, a boy with Downs Syndrome, to play. After several attempts with the boy back away and the dog not giving up, Hernán finally warms up and started playing with the dog. It's better when you watch but I hope my explanation is good enough. |
^^^^ The kind of dog I'd like |
tnature: What a wicked world! Front page please!Hopefully, it will be recommended by the mod. |
For dog lovers, you'll so love this video, and for folks who are do not like dogs (or any other pets), hopefully, this will make you have a change of heart. Himalaya is a Yellow Labrador Retriever (yikes! I'm starting to learn the various breeds). She's refusing to give up on a toddler who doesn't want to play. Little Hernán, from Buenos Aires, has Down Syndrome, which, according to comments posted by his mom Ana, causes him to shy away from physical contact. But Himalaya is persistent and gentle, and Hernán ends up giving her what looks like a hug around the 3:12 mark. If only people had the heart of a dog..... My heart goes out to parents of children with Down Syndrome. You guys are doing a wonderful job! Watch the video and share your thoughts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O8lbQGq7W4 http://www.infonubia.com/2013/10/heart-melting-video-of-worlds-gentlest.html |
Running any type of business is hard work. The road to success is often a long bumpy one, often littered with potholes and pitfalls before success comes knocking. On the bumpy ride to success, it can be easy to get down and lose your motivation. During tough times like these there isn't much you can do, other than keep the faith and keep going. I’m a great believer that being in business involves mastering the inner game of self and the outer game of business. More important than having business acumen is having a success mindset. I believe that I will succeed at everything I do, whether work or business. With that in mind, here are 20 business and work success quotes I have appreciated. I hope you find them insightful! 1. Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There's no greater investment. – Stephen Covey 2. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. – Thomas A. Edison 3. Success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable. – Coco Chanel 4. To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business, and your business in your heart. – Thomas Watson, Sr. 5. Success in business requires training and discipline and hard work. But if you’re not frightened by these things, the opportunities are just as great today as they ever were. – David Rockefeller 6. Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly and get on with improving your other innovations. – Steve Jobs 7. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer. – Unknown 8. Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other one thing. –Abraham Lincoln 9. Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from. – Seth Godin 11. The important thing is not being afraid to take a chance. Remember, the greatest failure is to not try. Once you find something you love to do, be the best at doing it. – Debbi Fields 12. There is no such thing as can't, only won't. If you're qualified, all it takes is a burning desire to accomplish, to make a change. Go forward, go backward. Whatever it takes! But you can't blame other people or society in general. It all comes from your mind. When we do the impossible we realize we are special people. – Jan Ashford 13. Don’t let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning. – Robert Kiyosaki 14. Life isn’t worth living unless you’re willing to take some big chances and go for broke. – Eliot Wiggington 15. In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later. – Harold Geneen 16. Quality means doing it right when no one is looking. – Henry Ford 17. In spirit of Independence, here is a rendition of the Nigerian National Anthem by Yemi Alade..... Here is the Lyrics.... "Arise, O Compatriots" (1978–present) stanza 1: Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria's call obey To serve our Fatherland With love and strength and faith. The labor of our heroes past Shall never be in vain, To serve with heart and might One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity. stanza 2: O God of creation Direct our noble cause Guide our leaders right Help our youth the truth to know In love and honesty to grow And living just and true Great lofty heights attain To build a nation where peace And justice shall reign. I also like #14 because most times we are afraid to take risks. Unfortunately, we don't realize our potentials and actualize our goals for this same reason. Good job @ op |
