RomanceOne In Every Eight Single Men Choose A New Iphone Over A Girlfriend? by infonubia(op):
Really guys...you would pick iPhone 5s over a girlfriend? This cracks me up...

According to a recent survey reported by Telegraph, one in eight men would choose an iPhone 5s over a girlfriend. The survey center polled 550 British men. Now, I'm a little concern because I think North Americans would have a higher percentage. iPhone 5s has been a contagious craze with no current cure.

The problem with chasing the latest iPhone is that these phones are quickly updated. Given that there is competition out there especially between Apple, Samsung, and Nokia, it's only a matter of time before something extraordinary catches our attention. They're all fighting for our love- rather our MONEY.

This same survey revealed that 3% of these men would exchange their girlfriend for a new iPhone 5s. That's simply comical! If those women were looking for a sign about finding a partner, that would be IT right there. Those 3% may need to reassess their priorities.

What would you give up in exchange for the latest iPhone?

HealthResearch Shows Odd Facts About Short And Tall People by infonubia(op): 9:20pm On Sep 25, 2013
Before you read this, breathe in...and let it out. A recent article written by Lisa Collier about 'Day in Health' addresses several challenges or perks on height. You don't have to admit it now, but I know there have been times when you felt either too tall or too short - depending on who's standing beside you at that time. Maybe that's not your story; well, you're one of the luck few. You're just perfect!

For those who have wondered what role their heights play in their health, lifestyle, habits, and other daily living that you never even thought about, this article is for you. I thought it was fascinating that "taller men may make more money that shorter men," "shorter women tend to have more children than taller women," and "shorter people are likely to outlive their taller peers."

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with these scientists and their study/discoveries?

Read on and leave your comments.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On average, taller people score slightly higher on IQ tests than shorter people, according to a new study published in the journal PLOS Genetics.

If you tower over your neighbors, those findings may add inches to your ego. But don’t let height go to your head! Studies have linked both tallness and shortness to a variety of health risks and benefits.

Genes influence height and intelligence

Using data collected from twins and their parents—totaling nearly 8000 participants—researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder examined links found between elevated height and IQ.

Their findings suggest that two factors may be at play. First, it appears there are genes that influence both IQ and height, notes Matthew Keller, lead author of the study and assistant professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder, in a statement.

“At the same time, it also looks like people who are taller are slightly more likely to choose mates who are smarter and vice versa,” adds Keller. “Such mate choice causes ‘IQ genes’ and ‘tall genes’ to become statistically associated with one another.”

Tallness comes with risks and benefits

Average intelligence isn’t the only thing that grows with height. If you are tall, you may also have a greater chance of:

- Being bitten by bugs. The Scottish biting midge, a voracious blood-sucking bug, prefers taller and heavier people, found researchers at Rothamsted Research and the University of Aberdeen. Larger people provide larger targets, while producing more heat, moisture, carbon dioxide, and other chemicals that can attract insects.

- Developing dangerous blood clots. Compared to shorter control groups, taller people are more likely to develop potentially life-threatening blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and other body parts, report Science-daily researchers in Norway. In particular, the risk is heightened among men and women who are tall and obese.

- Experiencing cancer. Compared to shorter peers, taller post-menopausal women are at greater risk of cancer, warn researchers in the journal ofCancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. In particular, multiple myeloma, melanoma, and cancers of the thyroid, rectum, kidney, endometrium, colorectum, colon, ovary, and breast are associated with tallness.

- Earning more money. On the upside, taller men may earn more money on average than shorter men, according to research conducted in Australia. It may be that shorter men experience discrimination in response to their stature, suggest the authors (Andrew Leigh, 'Body Size'), while taller men may enjoy a boost in social status.

Shortness comes with perks and dangers

Shortness also comes with its share of health benefits and risks. If you are short, you may have higher odds of:

- Living longer. A recent study by Taylor & Francis (tandfonline) nearly 500 men in Sardinia revealed that shorter fellows were likely to outlive their taller peers by an average of 2 years, based on their height at age 20. In addition, a research review (by science direct) published in Life Sciences noted that data compiled from millions of deaths suggests that people of short stature have longer lifespans.

- Having children. According to researchers from the Netherlands (by science daily), shorter women tend to have more children than taller ladies. The reasons remain unclear – but lead researcher, Gert Stulp, Ph.D., suspects that shorter women may spend more energy on reproduction. When it comes to men, Stulp found in a separate study (link-springer) that those of average height appear to have the most children.

- Developing heart disease. While deep vein blood clots are common among tall folk, the risk of cardiovascular disease in general is greater among short people. In fact, a systematic review of 52 studies (European Society of Cardiology - Emma Mason) found that shorter men and women are approximately 1.5 times more likely to develop symptoms and die from cardiovascular disease than taller people.

- Having strong character and a sense of humor. John Schwartz, a reporter for The New York Times and author of Short: Walking Tall When You Are Not Tall, believes that many so-called problems associated with shortness have been manufactured or overblown by drug companies that market growth hormones. In an interview with NPR, he credits shortness and its associated stigma with pushing smaller people to work harder, become tougher, and develop a good sense of humor.

Don’t let your height get you down

Height is influenced by many factors, including multiple genetic variants and environmental conditions. In rare cases, extreme tallness or shortness may reflect an underlying health condition that requires medical treatment, such as Gigantismor Turner syndrome.

In most cases, however, experts encourage people to focus on health factors within their control, such as not smoking, staying active, eating a balanced diet, and maintaining a healthy weight. Whether you’re short or tall—healthy lifestyle choices are your best bet for well-being and longevity.

Science/TechnologyCyber Security Tips by infonubia(op): 8:16pm On Sep 25, 2013
Nobody is safe in the digital world. Cyber security is a broad term that encompasses the various measures that protect computers and networks from harm.

Here are a few tips to help keep you and your information safe.

Lock your computer - and your phone: Are your devices secured, both physically and digitally? Most devices come with an auto-lock feature, requiring that you re-enter your password or pin code (avoid birthdays or other personal information). Also physically lock down your computer by investing in a cable lock, which allows you to secure it to a desk, reducing the chances of theft.

Avoid sharing too much: Keeping your friends updated and sharing memories via social media may seem like second nature these days. But what you share could tell someone too much - such as indicating when you're not at home, making you a target for burglary. Be sure you've set the appropriate privacy settings on your accounts, and be mindful of the data points you share.

Secure your email: Your email account will be the hub of your college experience. Think of all sites and services you use that email address for, and the network you'll build with it. Never share your email password with anyone - including, close friends. Use a unique password, and if it's available, enter multifactor authentication for your email account.

Keep software up to date: Shutting down your browsers, and your computer itself, will initiate most automatic updates for your computer. But those annoying pop ups and messages from your task bar? It is recommended that you attend to them when they appear. The updates include important fixes and improvements - sometimes addressing serious security issues, so don't put off responding to them.

Limit your activities on open WiFi: Free WiFi is very convenient. However, even if the WiFi network you're using may be password-protected, you never know who's on the network with you. Limit your access to sensitive accounts (such as banking) when you're on these networks.

Prepare for loss: Although you can be proactive about managing risk, sometimes bad things happen. The best thing you can do is prepare for that loss - of computer, your smartphone, any of your gadgets. Backup your documents and photos on a regular basis. Look into installing software that lets you remotely access your computer or phone, so you can wipe it if needed. Also look into software that lets you track your lost device, so you have a greater chance jot recovering it.

Got more tips? Feel free to share other tips so others can learn from them.

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward" - Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a note I wrote to myself but I'd love to share it with readers. Perhaps, there are others who could benefit from it.

Lately, I have been rethinking my blog. I feel like I'm losing steam and I should just call it quit. It was fun while it lasted.

It is easy to continue when everything seem great - readers are actively engaged by commenting on your blog posts, friends and families are happy, you are in a healthy relationship, the sun is shining, and life is great. But what do you do when the fun stops - the comments stop coming in, you lose your job, a loved one, or anything of significance?

It's easy to throw in the towel and say "I quit." But if you do, you lose out on everything. What happens when you quit prematurely? There is a sense of defeat that suddenly takes over; it leaves you wondering about what could have been if you had continued.

Imagine someone who desperately wants to lose weight but quits going to the gym after two weeks of rigorous exercise. Such a person will continue to WISH without attaining the desired level of fitness. Inherent in every worthwhile achievement is some level of painstaking commitment - no gain without pain.

Dwelling so much on past missteps incapacitates you. It hinders you from thinking clearing and forging a path forward because you can't see beyond those mistakes.

Now is the time to let go of any past mistakes, come off the self-pity, chart a new path for your life, and move forward. The past is gone and there's really nothing that can be done to change it. Today is the opportunity to determine what tomorrow will be by your actions or inaction.

Not too long ago, I saw the movie Lincoln. As I watched, I asked myself "what would have been his legacy if he had thrown in the towel after losing the first, second, or third election?" This man lost eight elections, failed twice in business, and suffered a nervous breakdown. He had every reason to give up on hope. He could have quit many times - but he didn't. He became one of the greatest presidents in the history of the United States because of his persistence.

All scientific discoveries are results of somebody not giving up on an idea, despite the difficulties in making those ideas become reality.

Don't wait any longer, don't plan another planning meeting. Now is the time to keep advancing in the right direction, keep pursuing your dreams and make them a reality.

You may feel like you don't have the strength to move. The truth is, the longer you wait and choose to focus on the "coulda, shoulda, woulda," the worse the condition gets.

Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu said "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Take that first step and keep moving forward. As you keep moving, hope will begin to rise. You will start sensing strength and passion rise up within you and things will begin to align. Before you know it, you'll have a renewed burst of energy that you need to overcome those seemingly insurmountable challenges.

God bless your hustle as you keep moving forward.

Education99-year Old Crabtree Received Her High School Diploma by infonubia(op): 4:11pm On Sep 25, 2013
This is definitely inspirational and touching. The story of Audrey Crabtree shows that it's never too late to achieve your dreams.

99 year-old Audrey Crabtree never finished high school; she was one credit short and dropped out in 1932 because of an injury and to care for her grandmother. Later, she married the love of her life and managed her own flowershop for 28 years.

Three husbands whom she survived, five children, and four grandchildren later, Crabtree received her honorary diploma. She was contacted by the board of Waterloo East High School in Northeast Iowa. They set up a diplomacy ceremony and awarded Crabtree her diploma during their education board meeting.

What does Crabtree have to say about this amazing and special day of her life? She said, "I wouldn't advise anyone to drop out," she said. "I just have to say in my life the Lord has been so good."

Lesson of the day: it's not too late to pursue your goals and dreams.

The full story is below.
---------------------------------
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A 99-year-old Iowa woman who dropped out of a high school more than 80 years ago despite needing only one credit to graduate has finally received her diploma.

Audrey Crabtree, of Cedar Falls, smiled Monday as she received an honorary diploma for her time at Waterloo East High School.
"And I feel so much smarter," Crabtree quipped.

Crabtree, who began her education at a one-room school house in northeast Iowa, left high school in 1932 due to a swimming and diving accident that forced her to miss several school days. She also had to care for her sick grandmother.

"I was a senior, but I was short a credit, so I would've had to go back the next fall," she told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

That would have interfered with her plans to marry her first husband. In 1957, the couple bought the flower shop where Crabtree had worked after their two children started school. But her husband died of a heart attack two months into their business venture.

Crabtree operated Flowers by Audrey for 28 years. She married two more times and outlived both husbands. Her family today includes five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Despite Crabtree's professional and family success, those around her had noted her dissatisfaction with not finishing school.

"She had voiced quite a while back the one regret she had in life was that she never had gotten her diploma," said Shelley Hoffman, Crabtree's granddaughter.

Hoffman contacted Waterloo Community Schools and helped arrange the diploma ceremony.

Family and friends surrounded Crabtree as the current principal of East High handed her a diploma during an education board meeting.
"I wouldn't advise anyone to drop out," she said. "I just have to say in my life the Lord has been so good."

Crabtree was given a copy of her last report card and memorabilia from her time at the high school, including a jacket and homecoming pins. She also received more than 100 handmade congratulatory cards from middle school students.

Talk about some great courage!

A four-year-old British boy survived the Kenya shopping mall attack after telling an armed terrorist "you’re a bad man."

After apparently seeing his mother shot in the thigh, young Elliott Prior is said to have confronted the gunman shouting “you’re a bad man, let us leave”.

Incredibly the gunman in understood to have took pity on Elliott and his six-year-old sister Amelie, giving the pair a Mars bar each and allowing them and their mother to leave the chaotic shopping mall in the middle of the terror attack.

Elliott’s 35-year-old mother Amber was reportedly able to grab two more children - including a wounded 12-year-old boy whose mother had been murdered – before exiting the shopping mall and taking the children them to safety.

As the group turned to leave, the gunman allegedly called after them saying the jihadists only wanted to kill Kenyans and Americans, not Britons, pleaded with Amber to convert to Islam and begged “please forgive me, we are not monsters.”

In an interview with The Sun, Elliot’s uncle Alex Coutts said: “They had a lucky escape… the terrorists said that if any kids were alive in the supermarket they could leave. Amber made a decision to stand up and say yes”.

He added: “Then Elliot argued with them and called them bad men. He was very brave”.

Dramatic photos of Elliot and Amelie standing outside the mall were beamed around the world following their escape.

CareerA Proven Way To Achieve Your Goals by infonubia(op): 7:17pm On Sep 24, 2013
In my post about increasing your productivity, I talked about setting clear goals and writing them down. On that point, I mentioned making sure that the goals are SMART but did not go into details about the acronym.

SMART stands for:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely

As we examine each of these attributes, I encourage you to get a pen and paper to write down the goals you want to achieve. Evaluate each goal and make changes as needed to ensure that your goals are SMART.

Specific
A specific goal is distinct, straightforward, and clearly defines what you want to accomplish. It should not contain any ambiguous language. To ensure that your goal is clearly defined, address the following "W" questions:
Who: Identify who is involved? Is this a personal goal or a goal that involves others? An example of a goal that involve others is a manager setting a goal for the team.
What: Define what to accomplish. What are you going to do? Use action words like develop, build, organize, learn, etc.
Where: Identify the location(s) if this applies to the defined goal.
When: Set a time frame for the goal to be accomplished.
Which: Identify the requirements for the goal. It is also important to identify and understand the constraints.
Why: This is really important! Understand the specific reason, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal. Having a compelling WHY helps you to focus your effort and motivates you to attain the goal.

Ensure that your goals are specific and clearly defined. An example of a specific goal will be "I want to go back to school to get a Bachelor degree in Computer Science." It's not just "I want to go back to school." It's stating exactly what type of degree you want to obtain.

Measurable
A measurement provides feedback and lets you know when the goal is achieved. It is important to establish concrete criteria for measuring your progress as you work towards achieving the goals that you set.

To determine if your goal is measurable, asks questions like - How much? How many? How will I know when the goal is achieved?

It is easier to stay on track when you measure your progress. It's like managing a project - if you can't measure your progress, you can't manage your project.

Measuring your progress helps a lot when you have smaller, short-term goals that leads to a long-term goal. As you reach your target date on the short-terms goals, you experience a sense of excitement that stimulates you to intensify your efforts at achieving your goals.

Attainable
After your goals are identified, you begin to figure out how to accomplish them. In the process, you develop new attitude, abilities, skills and financial capability required to reach your goals. You begin to pay closer attention to previously overlooked opportunities that brings you closer to achieving your goals.

Almost any goal is attainable when you plan wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to reach that goal. However, if your goals are too far out, there is a high probability that you won't commit to doing it when you know that it's too much for you.

Work on developing yourself, and with time you just might have gathered enough resources to achieve those seemingly insurmountable goals.

Realistic
Realistic goals are challenging yet attainable within the given time frame. The goal needs to be realistic for you and where you are at the moment. A goal of losing 50 pounds in one month may be unrealistic for someone who has never exercised and enjoys carbohydrates.

Set goals that you can attain with some effort. When the goal is too difficult to attain, you might be setting yourself up to fail. On the other hand, setting a goal that doesn't require too much effort to achieve exerts low motivational force. It sends the message that you are not capable.

Make your goals high enough that you feel some sense of satisfaction after achieving such goals. In the example given earlier, someone who wants to go back to school to get a degree in Computer Science will put in a lot of hours to study, do homework, and write codes. After getting the degree, such a person experiences the exhilaration of achievement.

Timely
Set an aggressive, yet realistic time frame for the goal. Putting an end point to your goal creates a sense of urgency and gives you a target to work towards.

For me personally, when I don't set time to accomplish a goal, my commitment is vague. I tend to procrastinate because I feel like I can start at any time. Without a time limit, there is no urgency to take action immediately.

Be sure to allocate an appropriate time frame to your goal. The time must be attainable and realistic.

My challenge to you

Everyone can benefit from goals that are SMART. Setting SMART goals gives you a sense of purpose.

My challenge to you is to set a goal and accomplish it! No excuses.

Kenya forces have finally put an end to the four-day siege involving suspected Somali Islamist militants al-Shabaab at Nairobi's Westgate mall, Kenya president Uhuru Kenyatta says.

In a televised address to the the nation, President Kenyatta said five of the attackers were shot dead and 11 suspected have been arrested.

Kenya has "shamed and defeated our attackers but the losses are immense," he said. The president declared three days of national mourning beginning on Wednesday.

Sixty-one civilians and six soldiers were killed in the attack.

Al-Shabaab claimed that it carried out the attack in retaliation for Kenyan army operations in Somalia.

CrimeMan Sentenced To 27 Years For Planing To Torture And Eat Children by infonubia(op): 2:41pm On Sep 24, 2013
I was disgusted by this article, considering my love and heart towards children. This is a recent press release of Geoffrey Portway, a British man who was sentenced to 27 years in U.S. prison for plotting to torture and eat at least one of his targeted victims - children.

Children are helpless and innocent. It's sad that they are prime suspects and victims of child pornography, early arranged marriages, kidnaps - and now cannibalism. Mr. Portway built a sound-proofed dungeon with leather restrains and castration tools, showing his intention and plans to torture the children, then eat at least one of them. Additionally, investigations revealed Mr. Portway had more than 4500 exchanges of child porn on his computer.

For full details of Mr. Porter's count of charges and details of the prosecution, see below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORCESTER, Massachusetts (Reuters) - A British man who admitted planning to kidnap, torture and eat at least one child using a sound-proofed dungeon he built in his home in Massachusetts was sentenced to nearly 27 years in U.S. prison on Tuesday.

Geoffrey Portway, 40, a British citizen, was sentenced by Judge Timothy Hillman at U.S. district court in Worcester after pleading guilty in May to charges related to child pornography and plotting a kidnapping and violent crime.

"The long and serious sentence ... reflects the serious nature of the crimes that he committed, and the fact that these are not victimless crimes," U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz told reporters outside the courthouse. "We got there just in time, and I'm grateful for that."

Last year, federal agents investigating crimes against children discovered the sound-proofed dungeon, a child-size homemade coffin, a steel cage, a steel-topped table, butcher kits and restraints in the basement of Portway's Worcester residence, according to prosecutors.

The case was part of a larger federal investigation into a child pornography ring that began in Massachusetts in 2010 and expanded internationally. Some 60 people have been prosecuted and more than 160 children have been identified as victims and rescued, officials said.

At the sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Portway's attorney, Richard Sweeney, said his client was "sick" and should be punished, but added that he had only "immersed himself in a world of fantasy on the Internet" and never intended to carry out any plans to harm children.

Portway, wearing a brown prison uniform, glasses and white sneakers, did not speak during the sentencing.

Bento recordz act, Morell just dropped an hausa-themed single titled "Ganga Da Garaya." With this song, Morell has joined the likes of Zaaki Azzay to become one of the few artists pushing the Hausa style of music into the Nigerian music scene.

FamilyUnsuspecting Wife Gets Busted On Live Radio For Cheating On Her Husband by infonubia(op): 9:19pm On Sep 10, 2013
A cheating spouse got busted on Live Radio when the radio presenter called and pretended to be her boss's wife. It's been posted on YouTube for a while but I just found it.

Listen to how it went down...

It's funny but serious. Infidelity is a serious issue that has plagued lots of families. It's not just a male or female issue. Both genders are equality guilty.

Moral of the story: Don't get caught in a lie and stay true to your partner. God help us all!

Christianity EtcRe: Was The Bishop Sick? Scriptural Perspective On "Laying On Of Hands" by infonubia(op): 4:13am On Sep 10, 2013
Exactly, now a days laying of hands has already become a tradition everywhere with most people doing it without having biblical understanding about it, the fact is that most times people that 'fall under anointing' through laying of hands often fall under their own flesh and consciousness with no experience of the Holy spirit, heard a story of woman who claimed to be under the anointing of the holy spirit, she fell and fractured her leg, now tell me was it the Holy spirit that made her fracture her leg ? Lots of people damage church properties all in the name of falling under anointing, isn't that vandalism in the church of God ? Some people even 'fall under anointing' because everybody seems to be falling too. I hope its not until someone falls one day and fractures his skull that people will learn not to act according to the flesh and their own impulse.
Hmmm...true talk. However, I think some people really do fall under the anointing. To me, the falling isn't the issues but what happens after you fall. Did something change in you or its just another 'subu sere'?
