9. "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek." – Mario Andretti I can so relate with this one. |
"I believe there is art is every single one of us" - Astro Saulter Astro Saulter is a 33-year-old Jamaican artist with cerebral palsy. He uses a program called EZ-Keys that allows him to control his computer with head motions; he uses vector drawing programs like Inkscape, PowerPoint and Macromedia. Some pieces take days, some take weeks, and the longest, his brother says, has taken 3 months. According to his brother, Astro's brother, his love for art could be credited to their mother who always encouraged Astro's creativity. She died seven years ago. Astro describes his passion in his artist's statement: "I love being an artist, and I really enjoy what I do. I take a lot of pride and enthusiasm in imagining and creating new art all the time. No matter who you are or where you come from or even if you have a disability, if you have a dream or vision of something you really want to do in life, you must face that challenge, that goal head-on." InfoNubia is spotlighting Astro Saulter today. You are an inspiration to us. We hope you continue to do what you do best. Also, thanks to technology for giving wider possibilities. What happens when people stand up to the government? bloodshed. It takes courage, determination, and lots of guts for the citizens of a country to unify and speak up about their dissatisfaction. This is the recent release and information about Sudan. Protesters from Sudan are speaking up about the current regime - the 24-year rule of President Omar al-Bashir. Security forces opened fire on the Sudanese protester, and so far this week, about 50 people have lost their lives. The full article is below. Do you think peaceful protest really work? ----------------------------- KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — Security forces opened fire on Sudanese protesters Friday, witnesses said, as thousands marched through the streets of the capital in an opposition push to turn a wave of popular anger over fuel price hikes into an outright uprising against the 24-year rule of President Omar al-Bashir. At least 50 people have been killed so far this week in the security forces' crackdown on a startling burst of protests, sparked by cuts on fuel and gas subsidies. The marches are turning into the heaviest domestic challenge yet faced by al-Bashir, who has so far been spared the sort of anti-authoritarian popular revolts seen around the Arab world in the past two years. Though he has kept his grip on the regime, al-Bashir has been increasingly beleaguered. The economy has been worsening, especially after South Sudan broke off and became an independent state in 2011, taking Sudan's main oil-producing territory. Armed secessionist groups operate in several parts of the country. And al-Bashir himself, who came to power as head of a military-Islamist regime after a 1989 coup, is wanted by the International Criminal Court over alleged crimes in Sudan's western region of Darfur. Protesters marched in several parts of Khartoum and in at least one other city, Wad Madani, after weekly Muslim prayers. Security forces opened fire on marches on Street 60 in eastern Khartoum and Street 40 in the Omdurman district, witnesses said, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons. At least one protester was shot to death, a doctor said, also declining to be identified because of the tense security situation. Do you think the world could not get any worse? Think again! There are no words to even begin describing how sickening people could be. A French mother who held down her four-year-old son while he was molested by his stepfather in a prison visiting room was sentenced Wednesday to a maximum 20 years in jail. At the detention center, 25-years-old Sabrina Bonner had blindfolded her son and made him kneel on a chair in front of her 31-year-old partner Lionel Barthelemy, then held him by the arms as he was molested. Both Sabrina and Barthelemy have admitted to multiple counts of molestaions and sexual assault of the boy, now eight. Some of the assaults, including the molestation in the visiting room at the Toul detention center in eastern France, had been filmed on a mobile phone. Sabrina gave herself up to police in May 2011, shortly before Barthelemy was due to be released from prison while claiming that she carried out the assaults under the orders and threat of violence from Barthelemy. Lionel Barthelemy, who has been jailed since August 2009 for violence, also received the same sentence from the court in Strasbourg, eastern France. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/woman-holds-down-her-4-year-old-son.html |

Few days after a Nigerian passenger died on a Houston-bound United Airlines flight, the airline has suffered another loss. This time, a Seattle-bound United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Boise, Idaho, after the captain of the jet suffered an in-flight heart attack, from which he later died. Seattle-bound United flight 1603, which took off from Houston with 161 passengers on board, landed safely and the pilot was rushed to a local hospital, Boise Airport spokeswoman Patti Miller said. The pilot, whose name was not released, died as a result of the medical emergency, United spokeswoman Christen David said on Friday. "I am sad to confirm that our co-worker passed away last night," she said. "Our thoughts are with his family at this time." The Boeing 737 aircraft later continued on to Seattle several hours later, after a replacement pilot was found. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/united-airlines-pilot-dies-of-heart.html |
NL member: What if the child takes after the short parent and ends up being short as well?Good point! |
prymesolution: It don't matter if you are tall or short. It's beyond your control. If you are single, you can help your offspring by marrying someone with a higher genetical permutation for either tall or short gene (depending on what you want).ha! so what happens to "love is blind" if people start considering heights before dating. I guess it's always been a factor ![]() |
fr3do: What caught my attention is that the surgery was done locally. It's an incredible effort. Kudos to the doctors |
Asree Gul, a 2-month-old Afghan baby born with an extra skull is recovering this week after undergoing a risky but successful procedure that was performed by doctors in eastern Afghanistan to remove the skull. Asree was discharged on Wednesday, after a successful operation in a Nangarhar hospital last week. The surgery was complicated by vital nerves and blood vessels that were linked to the second skull. Ahmad Obaid Mojadid, the doctor who carried out the operation, described it as "the first of its kind in Afghanistan's east". "We don't have very developed equipment," he said, "but we are very happy to have conducted the operation successfully". Interestingly, Asree has a healthy twin sister who was delivered without complications (see picture below). The doctors believe her second skull comes from a third baby that failed to develop in the womb. Asree was born to a family of farmers in Chaparhar district. The family approached doctors after Asree Gul's second skull made it difficult for her to sleep, and led to her being stigmatized within their village. We are glad the procedure was successful and we wish baby Asree a speedy recovery and the very best in life! http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/doctors-successfully-operates-on-asree.html Source: BBC
