38-year-old Sarah Colwill's life changed forever when she was rushed to hospital suffering from a severe migraine. But when she woke up her local Plymouth accent had disappeared, leaving her sounding Chinese. She was diagnosed with Foreign Accent Syndrome, a side effect of a rare neurological condition with no clear cause According to UT Dallas, there are only 150 confirmed cases of FAS. The condition is mostly caused by damage to the brain after a stroke or truamatic brain injury. In a BBC documentary ‘The Woman Who Woke Up Chinese,’ Colwill talks about her life with an alien voice. "It's just been such a horrible thing to go through,” Colwill says teary-eyed in the opening scenes of the documentary. "You don't even know who you are anymore...It's like you're trapped inside yourself." Watch the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r2yJwQVmIE While there is currently no cure for FAS, one clue that may help scientists understand the condition is migraines. Colwill says she gets them around 10 times a month. Russell also suffered for years from terrible headaches. There have been similar cases in recent years. In 2012 an Englishman, Alun Morgan, awoke from a massive stroke to find that he spoke fluent Welsh, despite never learning the language. In June, an Australian woman spoke out about her personal struggle with FAS for eight years, having developed a French accent after surviving a car crash in which she broke her back and jaw. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/woman-who-was-diagnosed-with-foreign.html |

Egypt's interior minister, Mohammed Ibrahim survived a bomb attack on his motorcade in Cairo's eastern Nasr City district on Thursday, security officials and state television said. Ibrahim survived the attack, but at least 22 people were wounded, including two policemen and a child seriously. There were no fatalities. Moments after the attack, a clearly shaken but unscathed Ibrahim appeared on state television and said that his car, a black SUV, was directly hit by a "large-size explosive device" that badly damaged it along with four other vehicles in the convoy. "It was a heinous (assassination) attempt," he later told reporters at the Interior Ministry in central Cairo. The explosive device, he added, likely was detonated by remote control. His comments were carried live on state television. "Even if I am martyred, another minister of interior will come and continue the war on the evil terror until we secure the country," Ibrahim said. Nasr City is a stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group from which ousted President Mohammed Morsi hails. It was also the site of a sit-in protest by his supporters that was stormed by police on Aug. 14, killing hundreds. Thursday's attack marked the first time a senior government official has been targeted since the coup that toppled the ousted president. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/egypt-interior-minister-mohammed.html

This is indeed a modern throwback as this duo where the first to come up with modern imitation of rap music even before Remedies, Six foot plus, Weird MC and i am talking after the "Sugar hill gang" of 1979, Ronnie "the way i feel rap, 1981", Dizzy K "saturday night raps, 1982", MC Skidd-O "Message 1992" . The truth is most of the earliest attempt at rap music in Nigeria were ridiculed basically because they sounded awkward and overly imitative. However, Junior and pretty came with a different attempt that sounded however original and at the same time comical;Junior would rap in pidgin english while pretty would add a reggae/dancehall feel with his signature dance steps that included "jaw dropping" splits. Today on Infonubia, we celebrate the duo of Junior and Pretty with their track titled "Bolanle" which was a story of how junior fell in love with the pastors daughter. This duo came out with a block buster titled “life” on Premier Records Label. Their romance with the label started on the 4th of July 1994 after completing the terms of their agreement with storm records. They pioneered the use of pidgin to rap and ever since, this trend has grown in the music industry rapidly, though sadly one of them Junior Okechukwu Azike died on the 2nd of February 2005 as a result of injuries sustained in a power bike accident. They were also the first Artistes to start show promotions through the Benson & Hedges road shows; this kept them out for a while as they had to tour major cities in the country for a period of time. “The song (Bolanle) took everybody unawares and stayed on top of the chart for eight months. Enoquin:Yes it's Bishop but I don't think the donation has anything to do with the laying of hands. Well, some could argue that Tyler might not be given the mic if he wasn't donating. |
This past weekend, Bishop T.D. Jakes hosted the MegaFest inspirational event in Dallas, Texas and stars like Oprah Winfrey, Steve Harvey, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds were in attendance. One of the highlights of the events was Tyler Perry, who attended Sunday morning service at the Potter's House church. During the service Perry was given the mic to announce a $1 million donation towards developing the church's youth center. Towards the end of a rousing speech, Tyler Perry placed his hands on the Bishop's head and blessed him. “I love to give,” he said to those in attendance. “I've been a giver all my life. And when people have given to you, and sewn into you. And God has touched them and given you favor… See, they don’t understand it where I come from. They don’t understand it in Hollywood, but I’m going to tell you something about the blood of Jesus.” Watch Tyler Perry's inspirational message below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvWhw7hEdX8 Some people think it was inappropriate for Tyler Perry to have laid hands on the Bishop. From his reaction, I don't think Bishop Jakes was offended. What do you think? Generally speaking, is it okay for a younger minister to lay hands on a "Senior" minister? Ariel Castro, sentenced to life in prison for the decade-long kidnapping, rape and beatings of three Cleveland women he held captive, was found hanged in his prison cell Tuesday night, an Ohio corrections official confirmed. The former school bus driver, who was under protective custody and isolated from other inmates at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, was found dead at about 9:20 p.m. when prison staff were making their rounds, Rehabilitation and Correction Department spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said. After prison medical personnel tried to resuscitate him, Castro, 53, was transferred to an area hospital and pronounced dead about 90 minutes later, she said. His lawyer said on Wednesday that prison authorities repeatedly denied him a psychologist. "We requested the opportunity for our retained independent psychologist to see and evaluate Mr. Castro in both the county jail and in the prison reception center, where he was being held. We were denied and thwarted in each of our attempts by the state and county," defense attorney Jaye Schlachet told Reuters. Castro was sentenced on Aug. 1 to life plus 1,000 years in prison without the possibility of parole for abducting his three victims and keeping them imprisoned in the dungeon-like confines of his house, where they were starved, beaten and sexually assaulted for about a decade. He was taken into custody just after the three women he held captive - Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32 - were freed from the house May 6 with assistance from neighbors who heard Berry's cries for help and came to her aid. The three women disappeared separately between 2002 and 2004. Castro had been incarcerated since Aug. 5 at the Correctional Reception Center, a prison processing facility outside Columbus, the state capital, about 150 miles southeast of Cleveland. He was to remain there while undergoing a series of mental and physical evaluations before being transferred to a more permanent lockup, prison officials said. "A thorough review of this incident is under way and more information can be provided as it becomes available pending the status of the investigation," Smith added. Cuyahoga County prosecutor Tim McGinty acknowledged after Castro's sentencing that a suicide note and confession written by Castro was found by authorities at his residence when they searched his home following his arrest in May. But McGinty dismissed the letter as an attempt of Castro, whom he described as a "narcissist", to feel sorry for himself and to place blame on his victims. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/ohio-kidnapper-ariel-castro-commits.html

Well said Kslib. I enjoyed reading it. |
Hi Mod, please consider the post below for the front page. Thanks! https://www.nairaland.com/1424084/nigerian-government-orders-evacuation-citizens |
scipher: Na wa o... Nigerians are everywhereI had the same expression... ![]() |
Wait a minute! Are there Nigerians living in Syria? As much as I subconsciously believe that Nigerians are everywhere, I find it hard to imagine that anyone would want to leave Nigeria to go live in Syria. According to Ambassador Martin Uhoimoibhi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered it's embassy in Syria to begin evacuating Nigerian citizens in the country. The embassy was directed to ensure a safe passage for Nigerians in the event of any military actions against Syria by the United States and its allies. I wonder if there are lots of citizens of other African countries in Syria. If you are there and you somehow stumble upon this post, your fellow countrymen called and they requested that you return home. Here's to a safe return of citizens of other countries looking to evacuate before it gets really ugly. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/nigerian-government-orders-evacuation.html |
Thanks for reading the post. You are really appreciated! It'd be great if others can look beyond the title and understand the point made in the article. Thanks again! RayPedra: Very nice article and love your style of writing. |
albacete: hmmm!Cool story, right? |
For the second year in a row and in the true spirit of labor day, Yang Yuanqing, CEO of PC-making giant Lenovo, is sharing his $3.25 million annual bonus with 10,000 of his workers after the company posted a record $34 billion in revenue during the last fiscal year. About 10,000 workers will get payments this month to recognize their contributions, Gina Qiao, senior vice president of human resources, said in a memo to some workers. The memo was confirmed by spokesman Jeffrey Shafer. Many of those who will receive the payments, which will average about $325, are hourly employees toiling in low-level sectors such as manufacturing. While payments will be made to Lenovo's workers in 20 different countries, 85 percent of the recipients will be in China, where that sum constitutes about a month's pay for the typical city worker. The cool part is...Yuanqing is personally funding the bonuses because he "believes that he has the responsibility as an owner of the company, and the opportunity as our leader, to ensure all of our employees understand the impact they have on building Lenovo." That's a class act! Hopefully, other CEOs will learn from this and follow suit. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/09/lenovo-ceo-gives-325m-bonus-to-hourly.html |
Ayatullah:While I understand your frustration with the title, and I apologize if you find it offensive, let me state that what drew my attention to the article was the title (No, I didn't write it). Already I don't believe in men's account of heaven and hell if it doesn't align with the Bible. So, if the title had read "Why I don't believe in heaven and hell stories and testimonies," it probably wouldn't make it to the forum because I share the same view and there's not a need to validate my view on such topics. When reading a sentence and it ends with "...", that tells me there's more to that statement. Please look at the title again. This writing style isn't unusual, matter of fact, it is a common practice. The only problem is lots of people on here didn't take time to read the post. You know that saying "do not judge a book by it's cover." That's exactly what happened here. Folks are quick to rush into conclusions on matters that they know little or nothing about. I beg to differ on your assertion that the literary style destroys the aim of the writing. At least, the original post has got 22 Likes (that's about the average for a good post). Even if the writer was really making the case for why heaven and hell isn't real, as rational beings, I would expect that we read the "Why's" before we comment. We live in a "politically correct" era where folks easy take statements out of context. This could be seen in most religious discussions on the forum. Someone was quoting Philippians 2:12 where the Bible was talking about working out our salvation with fear and trembling (paraphrasing). I asked a simply question: How do we work out our salvation with fear and trembling? The answer to that question is in verse 13 of the same chapter but the person didn't respond. Lastly, I appreciate you and others who read the write-up and I hope you get the point of the post. Unfortunately, while I appreciate all comments (at least the first few comments got the post to the FP...lol) I can't take responsibility for folks who have refused to read but comment anyways. It's all love bro, no hard feelings. |
Baby remmy: At age 11 i was in jss2. reali proud of him bt i support d nairalander who talkd abt him havin a childhood. deze tins affect psychologically later u knwthat was my thought too. |
Ayatullah:Come of it man! Did u read the post all? I get angry when people say "if u want to hide anything from a black man, put it inside a book" because I know a lot of intelligent black people who take time to read. Unfortunately comments such as this makes me wonder if whoever came up with that quote was right after all. You just saw the title and you ran with it. SMH |
Unfortunately, you are part of the people that takes scriptures out of context and apply it wrongly. Can you work out your own salvation without God's strength? YOU?? Before you start quoting scriptures and using several translations, atleast you will read in context. Do you start talking by using the word "therefore"? Read the verse before and then the ones after the verse you are talking about. Then you will see your own ERROR! Verse 13 of the sample Chapter says this (AMP) " [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight." Am using the same translation you used. Please, did you see that: NOT IN YOUR OWN STRENGTH? I don't think there is a need to debate that! Please, it is God that WORKS in US, not we ourselves! And if I may add, the OP didn't say he doesn't believe in HEAVEN and HELL, he simply said he doesn't need any man's testimonies to believe God's word. What can man's testimony tell, that God's word is not EXPLICIT about? Please go read the OP again, join the title "Why I don't believe in Hell.." with his last statement ".....Stories And Testimonies" and stop judging a book by it's cover...
Thank you so much for pointing this out. People are quick to quote that scripture out of context. I wonder if many of the folks declaring the writer is going to hell took time to read the post. If you are a Christain, the bible has said all that is needed to know about heaven and hell. I chose the Bible over account of any man. Infant, we don't need anyone to tell us who is heaven or hell. It doesn't change a thing! |
