While we are still trying to figure out if Dr Sid is a singer or rapper; he has given us something else to dance to. "Talented" is the title of this one produced by the baba himself "Don jazzy" and video directed by "Moe Musa" From the days of "Da trybes" video "Oya"; where he was on that dance routine with "KB" and rapping, we have followed this group passionately. A group that produced 10 solid artiste with most of them still in the entertainment business today. Sidney Onoriode Esiri (Dr Sid) has definitely grown from there to give us one solid album "turning point" as we wait the follow up. Watch and enjoy!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DThjCVn9Jk http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/new-video-dr-sid-talented.html |

Y'all remember "Always Pray For You".... an inspirational track that took the Nigerian airwaves by storm sometime last year.. Nosa is back with a brand new one called "why you love me." Typical of Nosa, he uses the strength that lies in rawness of his voice to deliver this upbeat eastern Nigerian Highlife (something similar to what we get from Flavor) A love song in its raw form without the hype of sexual gratification and promotion of nudity as we see in modern Nigerian music scene.....on a second note, it could be a christian song that talks about a love from the superior being. He says "infact, Me i dont know where to start, i can not even solve this maths; .......He dey blow my mind dey go" Nosa branded himself with the use of the Pidgin language in his music and he is making the pidgin language really "hip". Lyrically with his songs, Nosa aims to, first and foremost, inspire the listener then to provoke change and deliver good music Born and raised in Benin city, Edo State in Nigeria, Nosakhare Shadrack Omoregie started out singing in the children's choir in church and is majorly influenced by Gospel singers like Fred Hammond, he also credits his R&B influences to the legendary group, Boyz II men. He later grew to love Jazz and Soul music but his primary musical influential roots however remain Gospel and Afro-Highlife. Listen to his latest effort here: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/new-music-nosa-why-you-love-me.html |

Danny Evans, a New York City artist, used Photoshop to show what he thinks some famous Hollywood celebrities will look like if they had "normal" lives. According to the source: It was a reaction to the insanely over-retouched photos of celebrities that are everywhere," says the artist. The series started back in 2006: reacting to a crazy over-exposure of Paris Hilton, Danny photoshopped some images by putting her face on random pictures. It's interesting how these celebrities look chubby, especially the Kanye - Kim picture. Check it out and share your thoughts. see more pictures here: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/what-famous-celebrities-would-look-like.html

Nigeria is a beautiful country with beautiful minds; even though laden with corrupt people in power and exploitation of its natural resources by a certain section of the populace. The result of these is definitely a "not so impressive" image by the global community. The corruption tag has even transcended to the young people with young men been portrayed as "yahoo-yahoo," a Nigerian slang for internet fraud. As an outsider, its possible to look at Nigeria in 2 ways: a country laded with corruption where nothing can be done properly, or you can marvel at the energy, spirit and ingenuity. I for one would choose the latter! This is a short film about the Apo Mechanics Village just outside the federal capital territory in Nigeria (Abuja). Young technicians working hard even without the typical equipment of a car shop in developed countries. This showcases the ingenuity, passion and tenacity of the young Nigerian. Filmed by Jolyon Hoff, sound by Agu C.J and edited by Naheed Bilgrami Proudly Nigerian!!! http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/the-ibo-man-can-start-business-with.html |
"Teacher, don't teach me nonsense!" While some may find this video funny, I find it rather sad and annoying. This is a video of a teacher with 20 years experience but couldn't read properly. Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole expressed his dismay at the teacher's display of incompetency. As the son of a teacher, I understand and appreciate the important role teachers play in our children's learning and development. However, to perform those roles, we need qualified teachers. I hope this is a one-off and not a reflection of the state of the Nigerian education system. Watch the video and share your thoughts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quT33KJBSRY http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/after-teaching-for-20-years-this.html |
Lagos, Nigeria faces a sobering waste crisis that will only worsen as the city’s population of 18 million people continues to soar. The overburdened municipal government collects only 40% of city garbage and a mere 13% of recyclable materials are salvaged from landfills. People living in slum conditions without formal waste collection are subject to increased flooding, disease spread, and psychological stress that results from un-managed trash heaps. Concurrently, recycling firms in Lagos face a supply constraint—they cannot access and adequate supply of quality materials to process. One large recycling firm is operating its factor 50 to 60% below capacity. WeCyclers (a waste management firm in Lagos) presents a model that solves the urban waste challenge for households and recyclers. Wecyclers uses a fleet of low-cost cargo bicycles to offer convenient household recycling service in densely populated low-income neighborhoods. They motivate families to recycle plastic bottles, plastic sachets, and aluminum cans through a SMS-based incentive program. For every kilogram of material that families recycle with Wecyclers, they receive redeemable Wecyclers points over their cell phones in return. Families can then redeem their points for goods that they value, such as cell phone minutes, basic food items, and household goods. Families receive collection reminders and rewards updates directly on their mobile phones making the benefits of recycling immediate. After collection, Wecyclers aggregates the material at the household level to sell to local recycling processors. Wecyclers provides a consistent supply of well-sorted, high quality recyclable material to processors alleviating their supply constraints. Wecyclers have been featured on a social media campaign to boost the profile in Lagos called "The Lagos Chronicles"; it is amazing to see young people still using their minds to better the the society. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/the-new-lagos-wecyclers.html |
Spoek Mathambo is the stage name of South African musician (Singer-Rapper-Producer-DJ), Nthato Mokgata. At the vanguard of a new wave of African artists, Spoek is hitting the world hard with his take on Afro-futurism. His unique vision on electronic music, infuses futurism with a strong sense of pride in where he comes from. It is clearly African music, but like none that has ever been heard or made before. With beautiful visuals, inspired by late 60s South African female group "Izintobi Zesi Manje Manje", spoek is shown being captured by some fierce women as they tie him with colorful garbs; and not forgetting the wonderful dance steps of the women. Directed by Fausto Beccati https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTg2nZI34Kw http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/new-video-spoek-awufuni.html |
The act of jungle justice is fast becoming a trend in Nigeria. People take on accused persons and pass judgement on them right there on the streets. This animalistic behavior is disturbing as we have seen the young and the old lynched in broad day light on the streets of Nigeria. We remember the Aluu4 killings; where four undergraduates from the university of Portharcourt were burnt alive on the accusations of arm robbery and being cult members. Even if these facts were true, this should not warrant the people taking laws into their hands and passing judgement on every accused person in the society. Initially when the Aluu4 case happened, we were quick to castigate the people of Aluu community calling them animals, savages and people who have no regard for human life. Fast forward a couple of months down the line, in another community called Nsukka; a young man Sylvester Ezema was allegedly burnt to death for impregnating a woman and her daughter. Did you just say "ridiculous"? .......Yes It is!! I am not for irresponsibility but whatever crime has been committed should be left for the system to judge....this is why we have the judicial system (although I am not sure what law is there to charge on a man that impregnates a woman and her daughter in Nigeria) Over the weekend, I came across another video of a 12 year old boy burnt alive in LAGOS.....the commercial capital of the country. One would have thought the degree of enlightenment and westernization in Lagos would make such scenes impossible to see in a city like Lagos, but it happened and I saw the video of the young boy Samuel being lynched on the accusation that he tried to kidnap a baby. Even through his plea, someone in the crowd poured petrol on him and set him ablaze. How long will this continue in Nigeria? In some of these cases, the police have even been accused of witnessing the lynching.....If even the police share such mentality, then it is easy to say that the country is doomed. The Aluu4 killings was so publicized that one would think that by now, the arrested killers would have been sentenced to long times behind bars but the case is still lingering in court. Is jungle justice a way for the people to display their frustration at the slow rate at which justice moves in Nigeria? Are there any justifiable reasons for jungle justice? Are Nigerians slowly losing every regard for the law? What is the way forward? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/jungle-justice-in-nigeria.html |

African Safaris are the top choices of tourist who visit Africa and they are fast becoming a "must see" for anyone who visit the continent. Wildlife parks in Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uganda, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Gabon have been noted as some of the best safari destinations in Africa. We have compiled a list of the top ten safari destinations where you can be guaranteed to see the "big five" - Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Cape Buffalo. When next you plan a safari visit as part of your "things to do in Africa," consider one of these destinations. 1. Masai Mara National Reserve (Kenya) Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is known as one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves, situated in southwestern Kenya on the border with Tanzania and it is part of the northern section of the Serengeti National Park. Famous for the abundance of the big cats, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and the Great Wildebeest Migration. The Maasai tribesman also offer cultural tours which will enhance your experience. There are many places to stay in and around the Maasai Mara. The Mara has several conservancies surrounding it, that have restricted number of vehicles allowing a more private game viewing. 2. Chobe National Park (Botswana) Whether arriving by air or road, the first glimpse of the river – deep and dazzling in the sandy terrain – is always breathtaking. It appears as a swathe of brilliant, peacock blue ribbon, winding its way through the tiny town of Kasane, and ensuing wilderness – the Chobe National Park. Undoubtedly one of Africa’s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unparalled anywhere else in the country. Chobe National park lies in Botswana's Okavango Delta and covers four distinct Eco-systems. The Savuti marsh in particular offers some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa year round. Chobe boasts around 120,000 elephants, you're unlikely to miss them when you enjoy a safari here. The best time to visit Chobe is between April and October, the dry, cooler winter months. Herds of zebra, eland, buffalo, giraffe and wildebeest congregate around the Savuti marsh this time of year. Chobe is accessible by car which makes it a little less expensive than some other Botswana Parks. There's a wide variety of accommodation available to suit all budgets, you can even rent a houseboat. 3. Kruger National Park (South Africa) One of the most famous national parks in the world is Kruger National Park. Kruger National Park is located in the far northeastern corner of South Africa and shares a long eastern border with Mozambique. Kruger takes its name from Paul Kruger who in 1898 opened the park as South Africa’s president naming it Sabie Game Reserve. In 1928 the name of the park was changed to Kruger National Park and it was added to the National Park network. Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Kruger National Park is a “Big 5” national park with 147 species of animals and over 500 species of birds. Kruger has varying activities from hiking safaris and horseback riding to just laying by the pool and listening to the calls of the wild at some of the world’s top Kruger safari lodges. Night drives or night safaris are common as this is the best time to see those who stay out of the heat in the day only to become hunters at night. Kruger National Park has all accommodation options from camping to the luxury lodges. 4. South Luangwa National Park (Zambia) Home of the "walking safari" South Luangwa National Park in Zambia offers a true African experience. There's plenty of wildlife and over 400 species of birds. The Luangwa river is filled to the brim with hippos and if you're lucky you'll spot prides of over 30 lions at a time. There are 60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species living in the National Park. An interest in the vegetation of Zambia will enhance your experience of the bush. Some magnificent trees and plants grow in the Luangwa Valley and it certainly adds to the richness of one’s experience to be able to recognize the different tree species and to discover exotic wildflowers. South Luangwa offers both budget and luxury safari lodging. The best time to visit is during the dry season from April to October. Near the end of the dry season, the animals really concentrate around the remaining waterholes, which makes for a great safari. 5. Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle. There's a wide variety of accommodation available, from luxury lodges to mobile camps. The park covers 5,700 sq miles, (14,763 sq km), it's larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple hundred vehicles driving around. 6. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda) Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda's oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 320 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population, including several habituated groups, which can be tracked. 7. Etosha Natonal Park (Namibia) Etosha National Park is one of Southern Africa's finest and most important Game Reserves. Etosha Game park was declared a National Park in 1907 and covering an area of 22 270 square km, it is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. The Etosha Park is one of the first places on any itinerary designed for a holiday in Namibia. Etosha, meaning "Great White Place", is dominated by a massive mineral pan. The pan is part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed around 1000 million years ago. The Etosha Pan covers around 25% of the National Park. The pan was originally a lake fed by the Kunene River. However the course of the river changed thousands of years ago and the lake dried up. The pan now is a large dusty depression of salt and dusty clay which fills only if the rains are heavy and even then only holds water for a short time. This temporary water in the Etosha Pan attracts thousands of wading birds including impressive flocks of flamingos. The perennial springs along the edges of the Etosha Pan draw large concentrations of wildlife and birds. The park doesn't offer scheduled game drives. It's a self-drive safari experience. But there are several excellent upmarket lodges and camps available just outside the park boundaries in private reserves, where guided safaris are part of the package. 8. Okavango Delta (Botswana) The Okavango River cuts through the center of Botswana's Kalahari Desert, creating a unique inland water system that gives life to a huge variety of birds and mammals. The Okavango is a unique safari destination because you can view much of the wildlife from a traditional canoe, a mokoro. Every year thousands of tourists flock to the Okavango Delta in Botswana as it is transforms from parched savannah into rich wetland. The best time to view wildlife is during the peak of the flood, in the dry season from May to October. The wildlife is more concentrated on islands at this time, and it's therefore easier to see therm. as the flooding recedes, new grass springs up and the wildlife scatters to feed. There are numerous lodges dotted around as well as luxury safari camps, many of them offer walking safaris. 9. Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Tanzania) Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of Africa's most important wildlife areas and a bold experiment in multiple land use. At its core is the world famous Ngorongoro Crater - a giant caldera in which the dramas of life on the African plains are played out each day by a diverse assemblage of large mammals - wildebeest, zebra, lion and rhino - in a primeval ‘garden of Eden'. Beyond the crater rim, Maasai pastoralists herd their cattle across the plains, seemingly oblivious to the herds of wild animals sharing this vast landscape, the ‘endless plains' of Serengeti. Lake-filled Empakaai crater and the active volcano of Oldonyo Lengai are nearby. The area is also of great significance in tracing the origins of mankind with excavations in the Oldupai Gorge and Laetoli, resulting in discoveries of fossil remains of Homo habilis, and 3.5 million-year old human footprints. There are several lodges and campsites in the Conservation area. 10. Hwange National Park (Zimbabwe) Hwange National Park is one of Africa's finest havens for wildlife and is home to vast herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and has a very large concentration of giraffe. It is also home to many predators and endangered species plus very large and varied birdlife. The park is situated on the main road between Bulawayo and the world famous Victoria Falls. Hwange National Park covers just over 14 600 square kilometres. The Park carries 105 mammal species, including 19 large herbivores and eight large carnivores. Elephant make up the largest proportion of the biomass. All Zimbabwe's specially protected animals are to be found in Hwange and it is the only protected area where gemsbok and brown hyena occur in reasonable numbers. The population of wild dog to be found in Hwange is thought to be of one of the largest surviving groups in Africa today. Walking, driving and horseback safaris are a popular way of seeing the wildlife. Accommodation is provided at a number of game Lodges. To travel through Hwange National Park today is to see what much of the interior of Africa might have been like more then 150 years ago. Omawumi brought the fire on this track titled "Somori." The song is a fusion of Afrobeat with some "fuji-ish" mix. It features Remykayz and was produced by Philkeys. It is guaranteed to get massive plays in the clubs and the Nigerian party scene. Just as she did with Bottom Belle, Omawumi is once again ready to experiment with a whole new different sound. The song, a fast paced jam that will soon become the favourite of all fun lovers has been released. Speaking concerning the new single, Omawumi said is basically to mentor the young ones. “Probably due to my modest upbringing, you can’t see me praising myself. But with this song, I did something different. This song will inspire the young ones to stand out in everything they do and be very positive about life. It’s challenge to all of them. No matter what, they can be the best in everything they do”. While trying to give meaning to ‘Somori’, a Yoruba slang, Omawumi described ‘Somori’ as someone that can’t be ignored. “A ‘somori’ is someone that is highly respected in the society. The idea of this song is different from my previous songs. It’s a new school kind of dance music and I deliver it well” Her recent performance at the 80th birthday of Chief Tony Anenih, the Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees has been described as extra ordinary. She thrilled all the important dignitaries at the event including the Nigerian president and stage governors in a very unusual way.” Listen and enjoy! http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/audio-omawumi-ft-remykayz-somori.html |
This video reminds me of my good friend who takes measurement and draws out a plan for where items go in a U-haul van whenever he needs to move. The funny thing is that he's also an engineer! Imagine having your hair cut off from your head at gunpoint. Women in the city of Maracaibo in Venezuela should be careful when wearing their hair down. According to local news sources, a group known as “piranhas” are now stealing women’s hair -- and they prefer it straight. The robbers will hold women at gunpoint in malls and tell them to tie their hair into a ponytail so that they can then cut it off and sell it to beauty salons as hair extensions, according to CNN. People born in the 80's would remember Mike Okri and this song of his "Omoge"....the highlife crooner delivered songs like "Time na money""Rhumba dance""Hear your mama"......he was the wizkid of that generation... Here is a remix of that '88 classic featuring Omawunmi, a well thought out collaboration.....produced by Wispabeatz I think the remix is faster, and it is infused with modern instrumentation and Omawunmi stamps this with her superb voice that sounded like it originated in the 80's. The fact that Omawunmi was not relegated to a verse or underground vocals makes it more exciting. A fuse of the old and the new! Nice! Huffington Post reported that the leadership of the Islamic extremist group "Boko Haram" might have experienced some what of a coup within its ranks. Sheikh Abubakar Shekau (the Known Leader ) has apparently been deposed by members of his own terrorist group, Boko Haram, as prelude to peace negotiations with the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The group whose original name is Jama'atu Ahlul Sunnah Lih Da'awa Wal Jihad have been reported to be in dialogue with the government to bring an end to disturbances, killings and bombings in the northern parts of the country which has claimed thousands of lives since 2011. The group have most been active in the northern part of the country which is far from the economic and political capitals, and also remote from the oil producing regions; however, they have been reports that elements of the group might have found their way down-south which many fear might lead to a civil or religious war in the country. Shekau took over leadership of the group soon after the founder "Imam Mohammed Yusuf" was killed by the Nigerian Police after an arrest and subsequent interrogation which was actually caught on tape, this might have been the cause of the radicalization of this sect as they took to operating underground and launched a full attack on the northern states mostly church and public squares. Huffington posts reports that Boko Haram's leadership sent representatives to the capital Abuja on 25 June 2013 where they revealed to the government that Shekau was no longer their leader. Reports also say He was shot in the lower leg and shoulder which was backed with recent videos that showed him limping. Imam Liman Ibrahim, the spiritual leader of Boko Haram, explained that the teaching of Shekau was becoming increasingly harsh and began to depart from the Holy Qu'ran. "The beheadings, the killings, the recent death of students ... this is not the way of the Holy Qu'ran. We could tolerate it no longer." The leadership of the sect cites the Qu'ran as their inspiration for seeking peace. "In the Holy Qu'ran, Sura At Tauba: Wa-injanahuu-Lisalmi Faji Nahlahaa, we are encouraged to seek peace. The Holy Qu'ran also tells us it is good to negotiate. Sura At Nisa Ayih: Wa-sulhu Haira." However, if Shekau has been deposed and leadership of the group has changed, will this bring an end to the rumbles of northern Nigeria? What would be the next step of the Nigerian government? Will the man Shekau continue to work around free? The end to all these might still be far and we can only wait to see how things turn out. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/08/boko-haram-internal-coup.html |
