Anyone familiar with the writings in the bible can easily tell where the idea of this piece takes its root from. However for the benefit of those who aren't, here a summary of the story. Some guy had found Jesus, introduced him to a friend, and the friend obviously shocked at the profile of Jesus particularly given the fact that Jesus was Nazarene asked, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth”? One need not take a diagnostic view of the country to tell how ailing we are. Our symptoms are fully developed, and there doesn't seem to be a cure in view- sadly so. Once, I had taken a break from reading the dailies at some point, having found it was an easy route into depression, but I couldn't stay away too long either, something keeps taking me back there, with a silent hope in my mind that I will find some delightful news. Most times, I end up being left in a lurch. Even a cursory glance offered no relief from apparent pain one feels from constantly been fed with the troubled pills of one’s land. With time, one could anticipate what headlines to expect “12 killed in fresh attacks”, “10 killed in auto-crash”, “5 killed as students’ battle police”. Such anticipations hardly ever left one disappointed. Of course we have moved from such “meager” figures to “less decent” ones. Now in the era of mass deaths, mass corpses are met with mass burials in those mass graves. And with every passing day, the value of human lives drop, while the cost of living it rises for the lucky ones who manage to stay alive. In the face of these dooms, other aspects that highlight the failure of government and invariably the system are constantly shoved down our throats to live with. The wanton debauchery of public officers, the near non existence of the most basic infrastructure, the fear in a society on the verge of insanity, the crimes we commit against one another e.t.c. It is not unfounded that many Nigerians have resigned to fate, believing nothing good can come out of the nation. However this is a destination we must never reach. Dominating the frontiers of my fears is how the society may already be growing immune to horrors. We seem not to be conscious of “who” we are becoming courtesy of our experiences. I have observed for a while now, how reports of some sordid events quickly become replicated in some other parts of the country. A case of jungle justice in Rivers is likely going to be followed by a similar one in Lagos. A sight of sexual harassment for a woman who purportedly dressed offensively will soon record twin cases in other parts of the country. A gang rape video appears on you tube, and you can be sure it wouldn't be the last in series. Needless to say, public officers get bolder to perpetuate crimes against the souls of the people they serve. It has in fact become some sort of launch pad to heroism to be accused of corruption. They can quickly spew sickening clichés of how “it is the handiwork of detractors who are hell bent on diverting their focus from the herculean task of nation building to which they are stoically committed”. For those that are unfortunate enough to get their cases charged to court, the media attention turns into good fortunes with paid crowds pressing on court premises chanting their praise. Most often they are released, for lack of “adequate evidence”. As they flamboyantly step out of the court rooms, with a devilish grin on their faces, they tell the world “truth has prevailed”. Radically, redefining to the society, the concept of truth. This wide range of madness isn't the real offense in my view; the real offense is the ever growing apathy that greets the ills of our society. The average one among us is a skilled observer and an opinionated analyzer. However, the vast majority of us are usually easily resigned to fate even before fate befalls. We are more certain of the inabilities of our wills and consistent push for a better Nigeria than we are of the continued existence of Nigeria itself. If we would ever have a functional society, it must start with a functioning people. The people will always be the ones to make the country and not the other way round. The real reason why we shouldn't ask what the country can do for us is because it has become more crystal clear now than ever that the country has nothing to offer us. To continue to ask such questions will be to live in a self delusional world of titanic foolishness. We are “who we are”, and who we are make the country we have. To lose faith in our country is to lose faith in our own humanity, in our own abilities to be creative and restorative and in our own abilities to birth the realities what we earnestly so desire. Of course we can choose to fold our hands and pretend as if it is not our business. In the wake of debates as to whether Nigeria is a failing state or already a failed state, whatever position one takes, what is apparent is that there is obvious failure in the state of things. According to Murphy’s law, what can go wrong will eventually go wrong. So there is the grave danger of the total breakdown that greets failed states looming right over us. If we do, we would wish we had acted with a greater sense of purpose. Bottom line is, we cannot “wish” change into existence. We must act for change. And act for change, we will. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/can-any-good-think-come-out-from.html#sthash.nHpn9VOX.dpuf |
One of the things Egyptians would be remembered for in modern history is their tenacity - their ability to come out en mass to demand change. In 2011, Tahrir Square was ground zero for the Egyptian revolution that forced former President Hosni Mubarak from office. During that period, there was a record turn out of protesters who defied military orders, and demanded that the president leave office. On Sunday, protesters defied all expectations when they returned to Tahrir Square and million others took to the street across the country to express their outrage at President Mohammed Morsi's moves to strengthen his party, The Muslim Brotherhood, which won almost half the seats in the last election. According to unconfirmed reports from a military source, as many as 14 million people in the country of 84 million took part in the demonstrations, while hundred of thousands of Islamist staged counter-demonstrations in support of the President. If these numbers are anything to go by, then the protests would constitute the largest protest in world history. Although, the demonstrations organized by the grassroots Tamarrud (Rebel) movement has been mostly peaceful, as many as 16 people have died in inter-factional clashes outside the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Cairo since Sunday, including one American. There has also been reports of over 700 injuries. The Tamarrud movement claims that it has collected over 22 million signatures from Egyptians across the country for a petition calling for President Morsi's resignation. Already, the leaders of Egypt's military have warned that they would intervene in the political crisis if the president fails to heed the demand of demonstrators in 48 hours, raising the prospect of a military takeover. How this is going to play out is yet to be seen. But no matter what happens, this protest is going into the history books as the biggest protest in our modern history. Share Your Thoughts How do you think this is going to shape out? Given the instability in Egypt since the 2011 revolution, is this protest good or bad for Egypt? Share your comments. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/could-demonstrations-in-tahrir-square.html#sthash.3g779QoH.dpuf |

Ryan Wang is a 5-year-old piano prodigy, whose biggest fan happens to be 101-year-old Dorothy Landry. Dorothy can’t get enough of Ryan’s playing, but is a little hard of hearing - so Canadian broadcaster CBC brought them together for a private recital. A bomb planted near a yard where people were playing soccer in Iraq killed 12 people on Sunday, police and medics said. A further 24 people were wounded in the blast in the town of Nahrawan, south of the capital Baghdad. The violence is part of a trend of increasing militant attacks since the start of the year, which claimed more than 1,000 lives in May alone, making it the deadliest month since the sectarian bloodletting of 2006-7. In recent days, men playing in local soccer fixtures and watching matches have been the targets - after spates of attacks on Sunni and Shi'ite mosques, markets and the security forces. The reason for targeting soccer players is not clear. On Saturday, bombs targeting soccer players and young men who had gathered to watch a match in Iraq killed seven people. Concerns that Iraq may lapse back into full-scale sectarian conflict have mounted in recent months amid tensions fueled by the civil war in neighboring Syria, where mainly Sunni rebels are fighting to overthrow a leader backed by Shi'ite Iran. Sunni insurgents, including al Qaeda's Iraqi affiliate, have been regaining ground, recruiting from the country's Sunni minority, which resents Shi'ite domination since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003. Random Thoughts is a new section on InfoNubia that I randomly thought about (gotcha!) .The section is essentially for the readers. Yes you! Think about anything random - it could be a story, some artwork, a poem, or anything you want. Send your thoughts to myinfonubia[at]gmail.com and it will be posted as long as it passes the "Random test." Keep your thoughts PG-13 and it should pass. To get things started, here is my random thought for the day - Social Media Wedding The latest wave of folks getting married (at least lots of people that I know) got me thinking about the enormous cost of weddings and how to reduce it. Already, there is the "drive through wedding" in Vegas but that cost money as well. So how cheap can a wedding be? How about no money involved as long as you have a smart phone and internet access. How about getting married on Facebook or Twitter? With social media being part of our everyday lives, we might as well take advantage. This will be a perfect solution for long distance relationships (laughs). Imagine if you are in the US and your fiance/fiancee is in....Malaysia, for example, unable to secure a US visa. Just organize a Wedding event on Facebook or Twitter and you can tweet your vows ![]() Did someone just ask about video? You'd love to see your spouse and other attendees at your wedding. Google Hangout is the answer to that! This is even better - a wedding app - iWed: No money, no problem! Don't forget to give me some credits when you develop the app. Your Turn Feel free to add to this. You can go into details of how the social media wedding should be conducted. Be sure to leave a comment below. Your random thoughts should be emailed to myinfonubia[at]gmail.com. I look forward to those emails. Hundreds of protesters marched to the U.S. embassy in South Africa on Friday in a peaceful protest against the impending visit by President Barack Obama. The demonstrators opposed U.S. policy on Cuba, the war in Afghanistan, global warming and other issues. The rally in Pretoria was organized by trade unionists and members of the South African Communist Party. The protesters want to raise public awareness and warn U.S. citizens about human rights violations committed by the Obama administration, which includes the non-closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison holding terrorism suspects, said campaign coordinator Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. “Their administration’s government is not welcome, and is being received with antagonism,” Ndlozi said. “Therefore they’ll have to rethink the standards by which they hold their government.” Protesters carried signs that read: “No, You Can’t Obama,” a message inspired by the “Yes We Can” campaign slogan adopted by the president during his first run for election. Obama and his family were expected to arrive in South Africa later Friday as part of a tour of three African countries. Their three-day trip includes a visit to Cape Town’s Robben Island, where former President Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years imprisoned by the previous white racist South African government. Demonstrators staged a similar protest outside the Parliament building in Cape Town where Obama’s record on human rights and trade relations in Africa were questioned. “He’s coming here to plunder Africa and South Africa,” protester Abdurahman Khan said. “He’s coming for the wealth and resources, for the gold and the diamond mines, while the majority of Africans and South Africans are suffering.” Protesters also plan to rally Saturday at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus, where Obama will address students and receive an honorary law degree, and on Sunday at the University of Cape Town. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/protest-at-us-embassy-in-south-africa.html |
collynzo2: Does that mean all websites are blogs? All sorts of websites have been posted here. How is notjustok.com a blog?Of course Notjustok.com is a blog. What is a blog? a blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. A website on the other hand, isn't chronological. It's a music blog that regularly post musical content in chronological order. Check out their profile on technorati - http://technorati.com/blogs/www.notjustok.com Their profile on twitter reads: "Voted Nigeria's #1 Music Blog/Website 2010, 2011 and 2012." |
It seem like the definition of a blog to most folks is entertainment, gossips and sex-related news. However, there are credible blogs run by Nigerians. Personally, I like www.ofilispeaks.com, the inspirational section of www.bellanaija.com, and for tech needs, I visit www.doncaprio.com or www.ogbongeblog.com. For Naija music, I visit www.notjustok.com and www.1triberadio.com. I'm sure there are several other blogs that are doing very well without necessarily talking about celebs. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with entertainment blogs - there is a demand for them. Time is a true measure of any credible blog. I believe the readers have the final say on how they want to consume information and they ultimately decide their preferable source of info. That being said, I do blog about global issues, technology, sports, and self improvement - check out my blog....www.infonubia.com |

Nelson Mandela's close family has gathered at his rural homestead to discuss the failing health of the South African anti-apartheid icon who was fighting for his life in hospital. Mr Mandela spent a second night in critical condition, with his family, compatriots and well-wishers worldwide fearing the anti-apartheid hero is about to lose his final struggle. Messages of support poured in for the Nobel Peace Prize winner, who spent 27 years behind bars for his struggle under white minority rule and went on to become South Africa's first black president. "We must keep him in our prayers and leave the rest to the Almighty to decide on," Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said. Family members including one of Mr Mandela's daughters and at least two grandchildren were seen gathering on Tuesday for a meeting in the village of Qunu, where the charismatic former leader spent his childhood tending cattle and living in mud-walled huts. The meeting was called "to discuss delicate matters", according to South Africa's SAPA news agency, amid speculation that the location of his possible gravesite was on the agenda. The 94-year-old's condition appeared to take a significant turn for the worse at the weekend with the presidency announcing on Sunday that he was "critical". One of his granddaughters, Ndileka, told AFP on Tuesday that Mr Mandela's condition was "stable". Flowers and messages of support piled up outside the Pretoria hospital where Mr Mandela was admitted on June 8 with a recurring lung problem dating back to his time at the windswept Robben Island prison camp near Cape Town. South African President Jacob Zuma, in a televised address, on Monday hailed the life of a man seen as the father of the nation. "All of us in the country should accept that Madiba is now old," Mr Zuma said, using Mandela's clan name. "I think what we need to do as a country is to pray for him to be well and that the doctors do their work." Relatives have been gathering at Mr Mandela's bedside each day as doctors battle to save the moral icon, who was once considered a terrorist by the United States and Britain for his support of violence against the apartheid regime. Ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela – herself a figurehead of the anti-apartheid struggle – visited the hospital on Monday along with daughters Zindzi Mandela-Motlhajwa and Zenani Mandela-Dlamini and scores of officials. A few vehicles were seen early Tuesday entering and exiting the hospital but otherwise the scene was quiet except for a pack of waiting journalists. Messages of goodwill flooded in from overseas, including from the White House, which said its thoughts and prayers were with Mandela. US President Barack Obama leaves on Wednesday on a much-awaited tour of Africa that will take him to South Africa as well as Senegal and Tanzania. The White House said it was monitoring Mr Mandela's condition and could not yet say whether his ill health would affect the visit. Other well-wishers included Swiss tennis great Roger Federer, who hailed the former South African president as "influential and amazing". Mr Mandela – who is due to celebrate his 95th birthday on July 18 – has been hospitalized four times since December. His eldest daughter, Makaziwe, has said her father seems to be at peace with himself. "He has given so much to the world. I believe he is at peace." http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/bedside-vigil-as-mandelas-health-fades.html |

gluv01: Wonderful lessons too learn from it...mini clip video with true lessonsIt truly is. I'm sure there are other folks who learned one or two lessons from simple observations such as this. I wanted to post d video but for some weird reason it only displayed the link |
Sometimes the simplest situations teach us some of the biggest life lessons. Watch this video titled "3 Pieces of Wise Advice" which the content owner captioned with three advice: Never lose hope before time. Never celebrate before time. Never leave your post before the battle is over. For soccer lovers around the world, you have a good understanding of what's going on in the video. It seemed like the soccer game ended in a draw and winner had to be decided by penalty shootout. I'm not sure if this was the last spot kick, but it was a sure game changer. So, what's the correlation between this video and our daily living? I'm glad you asked. Let's explore each lesson and how it relates to life. Shall we? Never lose hope before time The player gave up right after the ball hit the bar. Notice his countenance changed immediately; he went from a place of confidence to complete lethargy, downright disappointment, and sadness. How many times have you given up on your dreams, goals, or ambitions, careers...? You feel like you've invested a lot into something and it's not working out the way you envisioned it. I'm sure this resonates with a lot of us. I once started a small electronics business. I bought laptops and navigation systems and resold it. The business shut down after about three months - not because I didn't make money, but the sales weren't coming as fast as I wanted. I failed to realized that I could have improved sales with a better marketing strategy. Just posting an ad on Craigslist is not enough marketing strategy. Time is a constant factor as we navigate through life, and there is an appointed time for everything under the sun. It's important to keep pushing, keep moving, keep reinventing, and developing yourself in preparation for that appointed time. I wrote a post about moving forward where I encouraged readers to remain focused and never lose hope. Giving up is the easiest thing to do. But what is the opportunity cost? Greatness lies ahead of you only if you can keep dreaming and refuse to give up when faced with challenges. Never celebrate before time The keeper got so excited that he became oblivious to the referee and everything else around him. He was eager to go celebrate with his teammates. You can imagine how disappointed he felt after realizing that his celebration was short-lived. While celebration is encouraged as you reach certain milestones on the road map to your goal, it is important not to dwell so much on those achievements. Rather, let them spur you into action towards reaching the next goal. I'd rather not celebrate at all than to celebrate before time. It's like counting your eggs before they hatch. Never leave your post before the battle is over In life, it's important to stay focused on the current task. There should be no loose ends. The keeper left the post while the referee was yet to officially signal that the penalty isn't a goal. Have you been tasked with something lately and you get distracted by other things that aren't as important? As a blogger, I easily got carried away on social media sites when I should be working on my blog post. By the time I finally got back to writing, I realized that I have spent too much time doing different things without completing anything. To solve that problem, I made a schedule where I allocated time for various blog-related activities. It is better to drill one hole a hundred meters deep than drill hundred holes one meter deep. Focus on one task and do very well at it before moving on to the next task. What do you think? These are some of my thoughts on the video. What other lessons can you think about? I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on the topic. See more at: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/life-lessons-from-35-seconds-video-clip.html#disqus_thread |

Serena Williams apologized Wednesday for her controversial comments to Rolling Stone magazine about the molestation case in Steubenville, Ohio. In a statement released on her website, Serena said "what happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me, I was deeply saddened. For someone to be r& ped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved — that of the r& pe victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written — what I supposedly said — is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame. “I have fought all of my career for women’s equality, women’s equal rights, respect in their fields — anything I could do to support women I have done. My prayers and support always goes out to the r& pe victim. In this case, most especially, to an innocent sixteen year old child.” The 16-time Grand Slam champion said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that, while not blaming the victim in the Steubenville molestation case, "she shouldn't have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that's different." In March, two Steubenville High School football players were convicted of r&ping a drunken 16-year-old girl. One defendant was sentenced to at least one year in juvenile detention and the other received at least two years. According the the Rolling Stone story, Serena says the boys "did something stupid," and she adds, "I'm not blaming the girl, but if you're a 16-year-old and you're drunk like that, your parents should teach you: Don't take drinks from other people." My Thoughts... I'm not sure why Serena's comment was a big deal. At no point did she say it was the girl's fault that she got r& ped, she just questioned why a 16-year-old would be in this position at all. As parents, why are you letting your 16-year old drink and stay out late? The problem isn't really Serena's comments, but the overly sensitive politically correct society we unfortunately now live in where no one takes responsibility for anything. What do you think? So I looked up the meaning of "Owambe" on the internet and here's how the Urban Dictionary defines it: A large, grandiose party thrown by Nigerians anywhere in the world, especially Yoruba Nigerians that involves a lot of food, dancing, loud music, and spraying (Nigerian term meaning the act of throwing money on a dancing person)...These parties take days and sometimes weeks and months of preparation, and have been known to block entire streets and roads, especially in Lagos, Nigeria. Spain 4 (Thiago - 3, Isco) vs Italy 2 (Immobile, Borini) Spanish U-21 side dismantled Italian U-21 teams just as her senior team did to the Italians a year ago at the Euro Championships. Thiago Alcantara inspired Spain Under-21s to European Championship glory, with the reported Manchester United target hitting a hat-trick as Italy were defeated in Jerusalem. The 22-year-old Barcelona midfielder has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford and saw his considerable stock rise further as Spain stylishly disposed of the country of his birth. Alcantara, part of the Spain side that won the tournament in Denmark two years ago, headed home his first after just six minutes, but Italy were quickly level through a fine Ciro Immobile goal. Spain regained the lead through Alcantara in the 31st minute, before the son of Brazilian 1994 World Cup winner Mazinho completed his hat-trick with a penalty seven minutes later. Manchester City target Isco added to Alcantara's treble in the second half and, despite a nervy ending following a strike from Liverpool's Fabio Borini, but La Rojita retained their title in style. This victory means the Spanish side has dominated European football in both senior and U-21 teams with the senior team winning the Championship last year and the U-21 team doing it this year. - See more at: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/soccer-thiago-leads-ls-rojita-to.html#sthash.VSSAnFta.dpuf |

First date gone horribly wrong! A Florida man says he was beaten, forced to strip naked at gun point, robbed and abandoned on the road side on a first date. A Flager County Sheriff's Office case report obtained by NBS News indicated that 34-year-old Shaun Paul Williams was found bloodied and naked on State Road 100 in Bunnell. William said he was mugged by a woman and her two unidentified male companions. He met the woman at a convenience store in Daytona Beach, Fla., about two weeks ago and they both arranged to go out on June 14. When the woman picked him up on Friday, he discovered that two other men we also inside the vehicle. The woman explained that one of the men was her brother. She said that she needed to drop the men off at the brother’s home. The woman abruptly turned into an unknown street side after the brother said he had to wait for a friend at an "empty cow pasture." Williams said he exited the vehicle to urinate and he was struck in the head with a "hard metal object." He immediately fell on the ground as he heard one of the men say "give me all your money and your clothes." He opened his eyes to find a semiautomatic pistol pointed at his head. He was beaten and robbed of all his possession. Williams, whom the deputies took to a hospital to be treated for lacerations to his head, said “I should have known better when I see two other individuals in the car,” Williams explained. “Basically, it was my stupidity… I should have realized there was something funny about it.” Good to know he learned some valuable lessons. Travis Pratt did not only stun the judges and the audience at an America's Got Talent audition by singing opera at a ridiculously high range, but also surprised his girlfriend of five years, who encouraged him to audition at the show, by proposing to her on national TV. I wonder if Travis would have proposed if the judges didn't like his performance. I think he was confident they would love it. Opera isn't one of those styles of music that guys would normally sing. Good job Travis! [flash=200,200] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF3ptkucM4c[/flash] See more at: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/watch-this-guy-blow-away-judges.html#sthash.RAssHI87.dpuf |
Watch this guy poke knife in a toaster after being pressured by his friends. Not sure how real this is but I know that a toaster works by causing a current to flow through a special type of wire with a high resistance to electrical current. The resistance converts the flow of current into heat that browns your bread. As with any electrical appliance, probing a toaster's innards with a metal item like a fork or a screwdriver entails some risk. Why am I tempted to try this out? Hmm...on a second thought, some things are just best left to our imagination. The dispute over player bonuses that threatened Nigeria's participation in the Confederations Cup does not seem to be fully resolved, captain Vincent Enyeama suggested on Sunday. "The dispute, which to all intents and purposes appeared to be settled on Friday, has only been resolved 'for now', Enyeama emphasized in a media briefing on Sunday. The impasse with the Nigerian FA has overshadowed the African champions' final preparations for the tournament, which is being used a test of Brazil's preparations for the 2014 World Cup, and they only arrived in the early hours of Sunday. They meet Oceania champions Tahiti in their opening match on Monday. "I don't really want to talk about this issue, it should not have gone into the press and I don't want to elaborate on it much," said Enyeama, who was sitting alongside coach Stephen Keshi at the team's media briefing. "It went on for the last four days and we don't want to spend our energy on it now. It is over for now, it is settled for now, but after the championship we will revisit it. But for now it's done and we will concentrate on the match with Tahiti." Nigeria's players had been promised $10,000 for each win in the tournament and $5,000 for a draw, but the impoverished NFA said just before the team were due to fly to Brazil it could not afford that level of bonuses and would cut them in half. The Nigerian squad refused to leave their hotel in Windhoek, Namibia, where they drew with Namibia in a World Cup qualifier last week, and their participation in the Confederations Cup was in doubt. FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke said on Friday the matter had been resolved and Nigeria duly arrived in Brazil at 0300 local time on Sunday. Keshi, who refused to criticize his players for their actions, said he was concerned they may feel fatigued when they face Tahiti but he was relishing the chance to play in the competition where they also face Uruguay and world champions Spain in Group B. "I am a bit worried by fatigue but I am not upset with my players. It depends on how you look at the situation," Keshi said. "But for now I am proud to be here, proud to be leading my country in a very important tournament and proud to be representing Africa." http://www.infonubia.com/2013/06/soccer-super-eagles-bonus-dispute-over.html#sthash.eMpd73UH.dpuf |
Sy Perlis, a 91-year-old weightlifting champ lifted 187.2 pounds, breaking a World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters record in the 90-and-over age division on Saturday at the National Push-Pull Bench Press and Dead Lift Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. The previous record was 135 pounds set in 2005. Perlis, who won world titles in 2010 and 2011 in the 85-year-old to 89-year-old division, told the Arizona Republic newspaper that he started hitting the weights when he was 60 years old. He did not enter a championship competition until five years ago at the suggestion of his trainer. He trains five days a week with a routine that includes weightlifting and cardiovascular exercise. If at 91, Perlis is still committed to physical fitness, younger folks like myself do not have an excuse. If you aren't over 60 yet, you can still get back in shape.
