The new Facebook scam perpetrated by con artists has spread to religious leaders. These scammers are impersonating popular church pastors like Joel Osteen (the picture above is a post from a scammer impersonating Pastor Joel Osteen). Once they have a decent number of followers, they begin to request donations for some non-existence causes. How the Scam Works: It starts out like a popular minister's Facebook profile; it has pictures and inspirational posts. To show your support, you "friend" the pastor. As the profile gain more "friends," the content changes from inspirational posts to frequent post about giving to charity and request to give to fake charities. This scam isn't limited to popular figures or religious leaders or celebrities any longer. It's fast spreading to just anybody. The dynamics is a little different from the religious leaders fake Facebook profile scam but it is still the same concept. How Can You Avoid These Scams? Be sure to do a quick search on Facebook before you respond to any Facebook friend request, or "friend" a popular figure, to make sure you have the correct account. Also, do a little research before making any donation to a charity and be careful with your personal information (bank account, SSN, etc.). What To Do If You Spot a Fake Facebook Account - Don't like, share, or comment on the posts. - Report fake profiles to Facebook following these instructions (see link below for instructions). Share Your Experience Have you received any fake friend request lately? How did you handle it? Please share more useful tips that I didn't covered in this post. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/beware-facebook-scammers-impersonation.html |
Rapper Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, subjected himself to force-feeding, a technique to feed about 45 of the 106 Guantanamo Bay inmates who are on hunger strike. The issue of force-feeding resurfaced as Muslims around the world participate in Ramadan (month-long religious fast) and the inmates are no exception. President Obama has promised to closed Guantanamo Bay but such measures have been stuck in the US congress. The four-minute video, made in conjunction with human rights group Reprieve and directed by Bafta award-winning film-maker Asif Kapadia, shows the former rapper visibly upset and pleading for the doctors to stop. Viewer discretion is advised... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ACE-BBPRs http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/video-rapper-mos-def-undergoes.html |
Economist Hazem el-Beblawi, a compromise candidate supported by a key Islamist party, was named Egypt's prime minister Tuesday. Interim President Adli Mansour also appointed former U.N. nuclear agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei as deputy to the president, responsible for foreign affairs, spokesman Ahmed el-Musalamani said. Middle East websites said Egypt's hard-line Islamist Al-Nour Party, which has objected to several candidates put forward by the military-backed interim government, had thrown its support behind el-Beblawi's appointment. The party said it was still studying ElBaradei's appointment. Last week, ElBaradei was a top candidate for prime minister, but Al-Nour rejected him, the websites reported. Al-Nour was the lone ultraconservative party to back the military's removal of Mohammed Morsi from the presidency last week. Egypt's army chief, referring to Al-Nour, said Tuesday that the military will not accept political "maneuvering." Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said "the future of the nation is too important and sacred for maneuvers or hindrance, whatever the justifications." El-Beblawi, who is in his 70s, served as finance minister in the "Revolutionary Cabinet" formed after a 2011 uprising forced out President Hosni Mubarak. Egypt's military council rejected el-Beblawi's resignation in October 2011, when he quit in protest over deadly clashes that left at least 26 people dead. Soon after, Muslim Brotherhood member Mohammed Morsi was elected president. The military ousted Morsi last week. Al Jazeera reports that ElBaradei, who has the backing of the June 30 Front, a coalition of groups that backed Morsi's ouster, is widely respected in Egypt and received the country's highest honor, the Nile Shas, in 2006. The appointments came as the Muslim Brotherhood party rejected the five-month transition timetable set out by Mansour, the military-backed interim president. Essam el-Erian, a senior Brotherhood figure and deputy head of its Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, rejected the transition timetable Tuesday, telling Al Jazeera it takes the country "back to zero." The five-month timeline includes amending the draft constitution that was suspended following Morsi's removal, ratifying it in a referendum, and holding parliamentary elections no later than February. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/egypt-names-economist-as-new-prime.html http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/07/09/egypt-prime-minister-el-biblawi/2501703/ |
Mayhem broke out during a session in the Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday morning when hoodlums broke into the House and attempted to seize the mace. The group also assaulted the Speaker of the House, Hon. Otelema Amachree. 5 members of the House led by Hon Evans Bipi had moved to impeach the Speaker. Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, in a telephone interview with Channels Television revealed that commotion started when Mr Bipi walked up to the speaker and started ‘slapping’ him as members were still exchanging pleasantries. “While that was going on, they didn’t know that some hoodlums had accessed the assembly. The governor (Rotimi Amaechi) was informed and therefore left the government house to go and ensure that people were protected As the governor got there, some people began to shout ‘shoot him’ ‘shoot him’ They were standing in the gallery. These were policemen who are paid by tax payers When somebody tried to rush to attack the governor, people had to protect the governor” she disclosed. The leader of the house was injured and rushed to the Government House clinic for treatment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WgFhjAibms http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/07/09/mayhem-breaks-in-rivers-assembly-as-amaechi-escapes-attempted-murder/ |
Why did they introduce North/South dichotomy if you think they don't know yoruba, hausa or ibo ? Y'all should stop deceiving yourselves that the west especially the British don't know Nigeria ethnic groups when they were same people that colonized Nigeria.
You are comparing apples to oranges. Britain is not the United States. When Mutalab attempted to blow up a plane, how was it reported? The media simply said " a Nigerian..." not "a man from northern nigeria." How about the woolwich guys that beheaded a man? They were of "Nigerian descent" not "Yoruba descent." We could either choose to keep dwelling on what the Brits did (which wasn't peculiar to Nigeria), or we could think about ways to make a more perfect union. |
@bluetooth, when the west looks @ us, they aren't thinking about Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba, or any other ethnic group. They look at us collectively as Nigerians. It's about time we stopped the division if we are truly serious about moving our country forward. The $7 million bounty could have been place on anyone/group who commits an act of terrorism in the manner similar to BH, regardless of what part of the country they hail from. Rather than point fingers, how about we acknowledge our differences and celebrate our uniqueness? We've pointed fingers for too long and it has gotten us nowhere. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT5m9Fn9RBg Wow...I just stumbled on this video and I was stunned at the reception Alh. Tafawa Balewa, the first prime minister of Nigeria, received on his official visit to the United States in 1961. The man and his delegates commanded the respect of the US government. This is the most articulate, eloquent, and charismatic of all Nigerian leaders that I've seen or read about. His mannerism was very appealing. As I watched this video, I thought about present day Nigeria and I was deeply saddened by the current state of the nation. What happened to the labor of our heroes past? This man believed so much in Nigeria. I hope that we would live up to the dreams of these visionaries. For some who think the Hausas/Fulanis can't speak proper English, there you have it. There are lots of positives and lessons to be learned from this video. A look back at where we are coming from can help chart the path to a future filled with opportunity and prosperity. Watch and Share with friends. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/video-official-visit-of-sir-abubakar.html |

Early Monday morning clashes hear the Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo has led to the death of at least 42 people and 322 injuries, a Ministry of Health source reported. Since Egypt's armed forces overthrew elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday and announced a political transition, there's been chaos as supporters of the deposed President and members of his Muslim Brotherhood party have been protesting near the Republican Guard headquarters, as there are speculations that Morsi may be under house arrest at the site. The Freedom and Justice Party, a Brotherhood-linked party, released a statement indicating that more than 53 had been killed and over 1,000 injured. "Early on Monday, supporters of the legitimate elected President Mohammed Morsi performing the dawn prayer outside the Republican Guard headquarters were massacred with heavy gunfire, live bullets, birdshot and tear gas," the party said in a statement on its website. Egypt has been in unstable since the 2011 uprising that toppled former ruler Hosni Mubarak. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/egypt-at-least-42-dead-and-322-injured.html http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/07/08/19347026-42-dead-322-hurt-in-clashes-near-pro-morsi-sit-in?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=1 |
A Boeing 777 jetliner belonging to Asiana Airlines crashed and burst into flames while landing at the San Francisco Airport after a flight from Seoul on Saturday. A number of people were injured. Pictures taken immediately after the crash showed passengers streaming off the plane. TV footage from the air later showed the badly damaged fuselage of the Boeing 777 blackened by fire. South Korea's Yonhap news agency in Seoul said the plane had carried 292 passengers and 16 crew members. Rachael Kagan, a spokeswoman for San Francisco General Hospital, said 10 critically injured people had been taken there, including two children, six women and four men. She said most of them spoke only Korean. There were no other immediate reports of casualties. A YouTube video showed gray smoke coming from the plane while some passengers could be seen jumping down the inflatable emergency slides. A photo posted on Twitter showed passengers walking off the plane as smoke rises on the other side "I just crash landed at SFO," read the accompanying message from David Eun. "Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I'm ok. Surreal..." San Francisco International Airport, located some 12 miles south of downtown San Francisco, is California's second busiest, behind LAX. |
Houston stand up! Dwight 'Superman' Howard officially announced that he will be playing for the Houston Rockets next season. "I've decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets," Howard tweeted. "I feel its the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I'm looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best." I read his deal with the Rockets is worth $88 million over four years (sometimes I wonder if I could have concentrated on my ping-pong career maybe I could earn a few million....hmm..nah, I'll pass. I think this is good for Houston. Looking forward to next season to see how well Howard is able to blend with the team and combine with James Harden. What do you think about the move? Basketball fans and analysts, this is your question. Please explain if and why this is a good deal or otherwise. Wonders, they say, shall never end. Another such of those wonders is the latest craze for human breast milk in the Chinese wealthiest circle. Human breast milk has become a new luxury for China's rich, with some companies offering wet nurse services not only for newborns, but also for adults, and charging steep prices, citing breast milk's high nutrition and easy digestibility. "Adult (clients) can drink it directly through breastfeeding, or they can always drink it from a breast pump if they feel embarrassed," one domestic staff agency owner told a Chinese newspaper. Traditional beliefs in some parts of China hold that human breast milk has the best and most easily digestible nutrition for people who are ill. As expected, the report has sparked outrage online. One Chinese blog commentator said "this adds to China's problem of treating women as consumer goods and the moral degradation of China's rich." People do a lot of weird things. This is definitely one of such. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/latest-craze-in-china-human-breast-milk.html |

Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, a 28-year-old high school teacher in California, was arrested for allegedly having s ex with a 16-year-old student after police say she gave birth to a baby fathered by the student. Whitehurst was taken into custody on Monday evening and she faces a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. She was later released after posting $25,000 bail. The boy's mother reported the relationship to the Redlands Unified School District, which in turn contacted the police. According to the Redlands Police Department, the relationship started when about a year ago when the boy was 16 years old. And why is this news? I'm almost certain you've heard similar stories about teacher-student relationships in the past. Well, it seem like some people don't learn from other's mistakes. Since her arrest on Monday, Whitehurst has been placed on administrative leave. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/teacher-28-arrested-after-having-baby.html |
We live in a world of many memories and many miseries, but sadly of few learnings and lessons. It is a common peculiarity in human existence to go on in life and leave behind many regrets, but we never fully utilize the power of our regrets. Given a second chance, there are many things we would have done differently. A friend we made but should never have, and one to which we should just have said “hi” but never did. The party we should never have attended, leaving memories as dark as the night. The words we said that were never meant, but can never sweep up again because the victims are six feet beneath. More daunting however, are the regrets we never know, the things we can never quantify its gain or loss. These are things we did or did not do, which had we, it would have plummeted us to heights that sadly, we’d now never know, and hadn't we, we would not be in such mess as we end up. There are just too many things about our past that we would always wish we could change, yet we will always deeply know we never can. Nonetheless, there are three things I found we could do with our regrets. The first is, learn from it. Though we may never be in exactly the same scenarios again, our doings and undoings are always a matter of our values and principles. If for instance we had a friendship or relationship that once degraded the quality of our lives because we gave in to some form of pressure so as to keep them in our lives, more often than not we lose what we wanted to keep and also loose a part of ourselves. That same person may never come into our lives again, but we always be in the valley of choices, trying to choose between pleasing people while hurting ourselves, and choosing to please God and our conscience and calling the bluff of anyone who thinks less of us because of our choices. If we understand that as a matter of principle, we would be happier in life if we chose the values that keeps our consciences clear over and above the actions that we inadvertently feel will enable us belong. Then our choices will be better informed and scarcely regretted. Secondly we can teach others with them. For while it is quite fulfilling to be able to teach people by our successes, teaching through our failures is simply extra-ordinary. The good thing is we don’t necessarily have to go around telling the story, rather we only need to live a quality of life that bellies our regretted past. And that takes me to the third thing we can do with our regrets- trash it. If we leave our regrets where they are, they will keep rising up like smoke. We must trash them, and bury them under the piles of our victories. The tears of yesterday must be buried under the smiles that glow our faces from the fulfillment we derive from the things we now do right. Getting it wrong in the past does not mean you can never do anything right. Suppress the ill of yesterday with the goods of today. Do well, keep doing well and don’t stop doing well. Keep on doing so well, that your ills loose its place in your history. Power your regrets! How do you handle regrets? Is there something else you do with regrets? Do you have other ideas on how to power regrets? I'd love to read your thoughts in the comment. Be sure to share this post with friends. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/the-power-of-our-regrets-how-to-handle.html |
His bet is on the young people who are the heartbeat for Africa's story knowing that the continent will benefit enormously if young Africans reach their full potential and make Africa a successful market. Speaking to young Africans at the University of Cape Town campus, President Barack Obama added that there is an undeniably progressive energy on the African continent and opportunities for young Africans. In order to tap into these opportunities young Africans must take example from Nelson Mandela whose live has shown beyond doubt that "one man's courage can move the world". Obama told young Africans that like the previous generations they must make choices. Because over 60 % of Africans are under 35 this means that Africa's youth are to determine the fate of the continent. "You've got time and numbers on your side and you'll be making decisions long after politicians like me have left the scene. And I can promise you this: The world will be watching what decisions you make. The world will be watching what you do. Because one of the wonderful things that are happening is, where people used to only see suffering and conflict in Africa, suddenly, now they're seeing opportunity for resources, for investment, for partnership, for influence," he urged. He confessed that he too just like most young people still at school did not always concentrate on his studies because there were lots of distractions, but the inspirational lives led by freedom icons such as Mandela has changed his live and outlook on life. "I had never cared much for politics. I didn't think it mattered to me. I didn't think I could make a difference. And like many young people, I thought that cynicism, a certain ironic detachment was a sign of wisdom and sophistication," he laughed pointing out that he came to learn about what happened in South Africa when two young men from the African National Congress (ANC) came to his college to speak about SA's tribulations. Young Africans should see the lives of Mandela, Mahatma Ghandi and icons of liberation struggles as a challenge to their generation because it is an indication that the voices of young Africans matter, their ideals, their willingness to act on these ideals in order to make a difference. Egypt teetered on the brink of overthrow after a defiant Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi rejected an ultimatum issued by the military, in which defense officials have pledged to intervene if the government does not address public demands and bring an end to the political turmoil engulfing Cairo. Morsi said Tuesday that he had not been consulted and would pursue his own plans for reconciliation between his government and opposition leaders, according to Reuters. Morsi has repeatedly said he will not quit, saying that street action must not be allowed to remove an elected president or else the same could happen to future presidents. At the same time, he has offered no concessions -- though his opponents appear in no mood to accept anything short of his removal anyway. His Islamist supporters, some of them hard-liners who belong to formerly armed militant groups, have vowed to defend him. Reuters reported that a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) said "everyone" rejected the military declaration. "Solutions will be in the framework of the constitution," Yasser Hamza, a member of the FJP's legal committee, told Al Jazeera. "The age of military coups is over." The comments came as a foreign ministry official said two spokesmen for Morsi -- Omar Amer and Ihab Fahmy -- have stepped down after nearly five months speaking on behalf of Morsi. On Monday, six of his cabinet members quit. Millions are expected to protest again in Egypt Tuesday, with protesters calling for a mass rally in Cairo's Tahrir Square. On Monday, U.S. President Barack Obama urged Morsi to respond to issues raised by the protesters. The White House released a statement saying that Obama told Morsi in a telephone conversation that "the United States is committed to the democratic process in Egypt and does not support any single party or group." The statement went on to say that Obama "encouraged [Morsi] to take steps to show that he is responsive to [protesters'] concerns, and underscored that the current crisis can only be resolved through a political process." The military's ultimatum puts enormous pressure on Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood. Opposition and crowds in the street -- who numbered in the millions nationwide on Sunday -- have made clear they will accept nothing less than his departure and a transition to early presidential elections. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/07/02/obama-urges-morsi-to-be-responsive-to-protesters See more at: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/07/egypt-president-morsi-rejects-militarys.html#sthash.GYTJDMu1.dpuf |
