Afam4eva: Could it be that he's right? #JustSayingIf he is, then the description of the second coming of Christ must be false. How about the Mary Magdalene? Did they return together? |
He's got people from all over the world flocking to his ministry. How could people be so gullible? |
Just when you think you've seen and heard it all, something else comes up. A former IT Specialist in Australia claims to be Jesus and he's already gathered some followers. According to Sky News, Alan John Miller, or AJ as he prefers to be known, runs a religious movement known as the Divine Truth from his home near the small town of Kingaroy in the state of Queensland. Miller also claims that his Australian partner (in the picture) is Mary Magdalene and she was present at the crucifixion. He recalled raising his friend, Lazarus from the dead. The sad thing is that people actually believe this man. A California man, George Hamel left behind a business and his wife in the United States to be closer to Mr Miller and his teachings. He firmly believes Mr Miller is Jesus Christ and insists there's nothing sinister about him. Another British woman Louise "Luli" Faver, 39, is a former neuroscientist who gave up her career to be closer to the couple. Miller must be saying the right things to attract these people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abOI3MToWn8 http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/former-it-professional-claims-to-be.html

The mother of a newborn baby found trapped in a sewage pipe has been traced by police, according to Chinese state media. The woman, whose name has not been released, had actually been present during the two-hour ordeal to rescue the baby from the four inch wide drainpipe, but did not admit to being the mother until confronted by police. The 22-year-old is also believed to have been responsible for originally raising the alarm about the trapped child, telling authorities she had heard the sound of a baby crying coming from her apartment building’s plumbing system. According to the state run Dushikuaibao newspaper, police became suspicious when they found baby toys and blood-stained toilet paper in the woman's rented apartment. Although she originally denied having anything to do with the baby, she eventually confessed after police demanded she undergo a medical check. The woman reportedly told police she could not afford an abortion and secretly delivered the child in the toilet on Saturday afternoon. She allegedly said she had tried to catch the baby but he had slipped into the sewage pipes. Video of the rescue of Baby No. 59 - so named because of his incubator number in the hospital – has been seen around the world, prompting both horror and an outpouring of charity on behalf of the newborn. Zhezhong News said the woman is a high school graduate who works at a restaurant in the Zhejiang province city of Jinhua. They say she became pregnant after a one-night stand with a man who later denied any responsibility. The woman reportedly did not reveal the pregnancy to her parents, adding she wanted to raise the child but had no idea how to do it. The baby's mother told police she cleaned up the scene in the toilet after the delivery and that she had managed to hide her pregnancy by wearing loose clothes and tightly wrapping her abdomen, Zhezhong News said. Police initially said they were treating the case of as possible attempted homicide, but it was not immediately clear whether the mother would face criminal charges. Local police refused to comment, saying the case is under further investigation. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/police-identify-mother-of-baby-trapped.html

maclatunji: I am not going to ask which is better because I expect majority of respondents to say wordpress. So, kindly convince me on what makes Wordpress (http://www.) better than Blogger (http://www.blogger.com).I think both platforms are good. I currently use blogger for InfoNubia (http://www.infonubia.com) and I just bought a Genesis theme for a new wordpress.org site I'm working on. For me, the major difference is content ownership. While you blogger is free, you don't really own your content. Your content is subject to Google's terms of service (http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/terms/)which stipulates that any content you post on blogger can be modified and published publicly without your permission. Also, they may make changes to the functionality of the platform that could adversely affect your blog. With wordpress.org, you own your content and you have unlimited access to it because you pay to host your site (of course there are times when your host might experience some downtime). Also, the Genesis theme for wordpress is SEO optimized. Blogger on the other hand doesn't have built-in tools to make your site search engine optimize. You'd have to manually do the work and it takes a lot of time. There is also the issue of themes which in my opinion, Wordpress has better themes and allows for more flexibility. I'm still trying to familiarize myself with both platforms and so far, I think I like Wordpress better. |
The World Bank and its subsidiary, the International Finance Corporation, IFC, yesterday announced plans to invest about $1 billion (N159 billion) in Nigeria’s energy sector in the next couple of months. Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Management’s, NIM, Corporate Leaders Forum in Lagos, Marie Francois Marie-Nelly, World Bank Country Director, Nigeria, said the investments will be in terms of Partial Risk Guarantees for gas supply and Independent Power Plants valued at $800 million and $200 million respectively. According to Marie-Nelly, who was represented by Ms. Gravette Brown, Senior Investment Officer, IFC Manufacturing and Services — Africa Department, in addition to the planned investments, the World Bank currently has $400 million active in Partial Risk Guarantees for gas supply and over 10 years technical support and advice to the power sector. She added that the IFC, as part of its future investment plan, has a high probability investment pipeline in Nigeria of approximately US$800 million, with priority given to power, infrastructure, agriculture, housing, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs. She stated that its investment would also be focused on equity investments with emphasis on corporate governance, climate change and energy efficiency. She disclosed that the IFC will participate in the activities of oil majors and other Independent Power Projects, IPPs, and also in the privatization of the 11 power distribution companies and six power generating companies. She noted the World Bank Group is focusing on three key areas of growth in Nigeria, namely: improve infrastructure, especially in the area of power; promotion of sustainable agribusiness and support for SME growth and development. She said, “we will support public private participation dialogue on private sector participation in power, finance and mobilize gas-to-power and other downstream gas projects. “In the near term, we will be working with IFC clients and other industrials to outsource their large captive power supply need; we will also participate in gas production/transportation projects and help standardize key agreements in pioneer projects.” http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/nigerias-energy-sector-gets-1-billion.html |

A series of potentially destructive cyber attacks seeking to sabotage corporations in the U.S. has been tracked back to Iran, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing American officials and corporate security experts. American oil, gas and electricity companies, which government officials refuse to identify, have been targeted by the attacks. Government officials said that the attacks were designed to destroy data and manipulate machinery that operates critical control systems, like oil pipelines. While the attacks have been unsuccessful so far, they made enough progress to warrant a warning from the Department of Homeland Security. Referring to a months-long investigation into the cyber campaign, a government official told the New York Times that “most everything we have seen is coming from the Middle East.” Government officials and outside experts confirmed that the source of the attacks have been narrowed down to Iran, as was previously reported in the Wall Street Journal. The evidence isn't strong enough to unequivocally indicate that the attacks were sponsored by the Islamic Republic, the officials said, but due to the fact that control over the Internet is so centralized in Iran it is unlikely that they were perpetrated without Tehran's knowledge. The officials told The New York Times that the attacks suggest that Iran’s hacking skills have improved over the past 18 months. The attacks are viewed as the Iranian government's retaliation for the tightened economic sanctions that have been imposed on it, and for the American and Israeli cyber program that unleashed a virus dubbed Stuxnet on the Natanz nuclear plant. That joint U.S.-Israeli effort, code-named Olympic Games, slowed Iran’s nuclear progress for months, but also prompted it to create a cyber corps to defend the country from such viruses. The wave of attacks on U.S. firms follows similar attempts made last year to hack Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer, and RasGas, the Qatari energy company. American officials have attributed both attacks to Iran. Iran has denied being the source of any attacks, adding that it had been a victim of American sabotage. Government officials have also said Iran was the source of a separate ongoing series of attacks on financial institutions in the U.S., which began last September and has since taken dozens of American banks intermittently offline. However, these attacks are a less sophisticated effort, according to the report. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/cyber-attacks-on-us-energy-firms.html |

JeSoul: Nice. Some suggested I should have titled it "Ohio Kidnapping Case Hero Punished With Free McDonald's For One Year" ![]() |
Charles Ramsey, the Ohio man who famously helped free three women held for years in a Cleveland house by their kidnappers, is getting an actual prize - McDonald's will give the man one year of free meal at the fast-food restaurant. Ramsey was called a hero after helping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight break out of neighbor Ariel Catro's house in Cleveland on May 6. The women have been held in the house for years against their will. So, what does McDonald's have to do with this? Apparently, Ramsey was eating a McDonald's meal when the event happened. He gave McDonald's some free publicity during an interview with a local T.V station and the video went viral. Watch video and read the rest of the story here: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/ohio-kidnapping-case-hero-reawarded.html |
In another bizarre news, an 84-year-old New Mexico woman who uses an oxygen tank was indicted for drug trafficking. The Associated Press reports that Lillie Smith was indicted by a Bernalillo County grand jury for trafficking, conspiracy to commit trafficking, tampering with evidence and possession – all charges stemming from a 2011 warrant. Authorities originally suspected the woman's son, Nathan Jones, was running a drug operation out of her home. But they found cocaine and marijuana, scales, money, narcotics and other items believed to be connected to trafficking on Smith as she tried to pull a fast one by hiding the evidence during the investigation. "It's definitely not something you see every day," said Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Aaron Williamson. "When detectives were on scene she did try to take the narcotics that were on her person out and stash them." Jones was arrested in 2011 but Smith wasn't because of a medical condition. The district attorney’s office filed charges and a grand jury returned the indictment earlier this year. Smith was arrested in April but bonded out of jail. Her next court appearance is in July. The story sounds like a script in a Tyler Perry's Madea movie...Bizarre but funny. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/incredible-84-year-old-new-mexico-woman.html |
Details are beginning to emerge about the identity of the two killers who slaughtered a British soldier on Woolwich street in the UK. The Daily Mail reports that the two men were known to security services, including MI5. One of the suspects was named on internet forums and Twitter as Michael Adebolajo, the man seen ranting with blood on his hands on video shortly after the murder. According to reports, Michael Adebolajo is a British citizen who was born to a Christian family of Nigerian descent. He converted to radical Islam in 2003, calling himself Mujaheed, and joined several extremist groups - including Al Muhajiroun - that were banned in Britain. Sources also claimed that Adebolajo was arrested on his way to join Al Shabaab in Somalia. Little is known about the other killer. Though the killer is speculated to be of Nigerian descent, his background puts some doubts to the claim. Anjem Choudary, a leader of the banned Al Muhajiroun group, said "I went to the same primary school as him in Woolwich, Mulgrave, and grew up in the same area and he came to the local mosque - it was a peaceful community with lots of Muslim people from Somalia and Pakistan. I didn't know him that well so I can't say where his family was from." Also, in the video, the killer said "We must fight them like they fight us. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. I apologize that women had to see this today, but in OUR LAND, our women had to see the same." What land was he talking about? I don't recall this happening to women in Nigeria unless if of course, he was referring to the Boko Haram attacks (which wouldn't make sense for the obvious reason). The "an eye for an eye" analogy also doesn't seem logical as there are no foreign military intervention in Nigeria. It could however be that he was speaking figuratively about the fight against Islamic extremism. What do you think? Share your thoughts if you believe Michael "Mujaheed" Adebolajo is of Nigerian descent or otherwise. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/woolwich-killers-known-to-mi5-one-of.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2329470/Michael-Adebolajo-British-born-suspect-obsessed-radical-Islam-schoolboy.html |
It's difficult to believe that the guy in the video is a British Nigerian. I've watched the video several times trying to connect the dots. Dude said "We must fight them like they fight us. I stand to be corrected but the whole "Michael Adebolajo" thing is not connecting. The only reason it will make sense is if he was speaking figuratively about the fight against Islamic extremism. Watch the video and help make sense of the speculations: http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/video-woolwich-attacker-speaks.html |
This is just another case of high level mismanagement and abuse of power. It's almost unimaginable such an amount is spent on sugar importation Culled from the Nigerian Tribune: A Senate report has revealed that Nigeria has, within the last three years, spent almost N229 billion ($1.3 billion) on importation of sugar alone. This was just as 10,000 workers are now in the employment market, due to the policy of granting waivers to selected importers of raw sugar in Nigeria by the Federal Government. The report further revealed that 10 per cent of government’s funds accruable to the sugar levy account had been spent by government for purposes other than the reasons it was created. Reacting to the disclosures, Senate President, David Mark, described the policy of granting waivers as “a classical example of policy failure.” Do you believe this is money well spent? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/nigerian-government-spends-15-billion.html |

A man believed to be a soldier was brutally killed in a machete attack and the two suspects shot by police in Woolwich, south-east London. This is a footage of one of the killers talking to the camera shortly after the horrendous act was committed He said "We must fight them as they fight us. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." He added: "I apologize that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you." The police arrived moments later and shot both him and his partner. Investigation is ongoing as there are strong indications of a terror connection. *** Update: Original video was removed by the user. Hi Nairalanders! It seem like the year is running on turbo speed. Can you believe we are in the fourth week in May already? This week, we'll be exploring six steps to improving productivity at work. Shall we? 1. Set clear goals for the week and write them down Setting goals is an essential component of being productive. Doing this at the beginning of the week gives you a clear picture of what the week looks like, and it helps you to be better prepared for unanticipated tasks that may be added to your work list during the week. Your goals should be SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. You have a greater chance of achieving goals that meet all five criteria. 2. Prioritize your goals Review your list and prioritize based on the value-add of each task and the deadline. The priority can be adjusted accordingly as things come up during the week. Prioritizing also helps with allotting appropriate time to each task. 3. Create a clear action plan Having a plan of action is a good way to make sure you don't derail from your goals. You know what to do at any given time and you have a good understanding of how to go about your tasks. In the process of creating an action plan, you are likely to identify tasks that may require additional assistance from a teammate or other colleagues and you are able to allot some time for such. 4. Concentrate on the task at hand This is a step I'm still trying to master. Once time has been allotted to each task, it is important to spend the time wisely so you can complete the task within the given time frame. The quickest way to get a task completed is to fully focus on it without interruption. I think about how many times I begin a task and I get an email that gets me sidetracked. The funny thing is the email might not necessarily be urgent but I still get carried away nonetheless. 5. Work smart While the number of working hours is important, the quantity and quality of work is even more important. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you have difficulties with a task. Leverage the resources available to you - your peers, seniors, Google, and other resources at work. Don't spend too much time trying to figure things out when you can just talk to a colleague who can help. Also, think about steps that can be eliminated or figure out smarter ways to perform some tasks. Can some of your repetitive tasks be automated? 6. Take breaks As silly as this may sound, breaks are an important part of the work day. They provide an opportunity to rejuvenate by taking your mind off work for a little bit. The danger, however, is in taking unnecessary breaks or spending too much time socializing while on breaks. When used appropriately, breaks enhance your productivity by making sure you don't get burnt out before the day is over. Being productive at work does not only help your company, it also helps you become better at time management and before long, all that hard work will be noticed and rewarded. How About You? I'd love to hear about your strategies. How do you stay productive? Do you do something similar to what I have listed or you have a completely different routine? http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/6-steps-to-increasing-your-productivity.html |

The Public Relations Officers of the command, Mrs. Thelma Williams, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos that the arrests were made between January and March 2013. She said the command also arrested 12 suspects with $13.8 million (N2.2 billion) dollars from September to December 2012. Williams said there was no law banning travelers from taking money out of the country but the money must be declared by the traveler before being taken out. She said, “From $10,000, there must be a declaration. We have a form there on which travelers make a declaration stating the source of the money they are carrying and what that money is meant for. We’ll leave one of the forms here and send a copy to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “They would go with a copy because there are some countries that would ask travelers to produce that. “Sometimes we even have letters from some of these countries. They want to know if so, so person passed through our airport and if he made such a declaration so that it won’t look as if it is a fake declaration. “You don’t pay any amount of money to declare. The money is yours; it’s just for you to declare. I have so, so amount of money with me that I am travelling out with. “I think why they are running away from this declaration now is because government is interested. Sometimes it could be money laundering. Government is interested. “Those that are running away I want to believe are those that are laundering the money.” Williams advised the travelers to make sure that the amount they would travel with was declared, adding that the money should be changed at a registered commercial bank and Bureau De Change. She said the five suspects and the monies involved had been handed over to the EFCC for further interrogation. http://www.punchng.com/news/customs-arrest-suspects-with-2-7m-at-lagos-airport/ http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/suspected-money-launders-arrested-with.html |

Israeli troops shot at a target across the Syrian frontier on Tuesday in response to gunfire that struck its forces in the Golan Heights, the Israeli military said. A statement said a military vehicle was damaged by shots fired from Syria but that there were no injuries. It said that soldiers "returned precise fire". Gunfire incidents across the frontier from Syria have recurred in past months during an escalating a civil war there in which rebels have sought to topple President Bashar al-Assad. Israel's Army Radio said Tuesday's was the third consecutive cross-border shooting this week. The Israeli military added in its statement that it viewed these incidents "with concern". Israel captured the Golan territory from Syria in a 1967 war and later annexed the area. Negotiations aimed at resolving that conflict ran aground in 2000. Israel has not taken sides in Syria's internal conflict, but has been worried about the involvement of its Iranian-backed foe, Hezbollah, in the fighting. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held out the prospect on Sunday of Israeli strikes inside Syria to stop Hezbollah and other opponents of Israel getting advanced weapons. Netanyahu said Israel was "preparing for every scenario" in Syria. He added "we will act to ensure the security interest of Israel's citizens in the future as well". Israel has neither denied nor confirmed reports it attacked Iranian-supplied missiles stored near Damascus this month that it believed were waiting delivery to Hezbollah, which fought a war with Israel in 2006 and is allied with Assad. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/in-response-to-gunshots-at-its-troop.html www.infonubia.com |
Hundreds of members of the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, who are fleeing military attacks in the border communities of Borno State, are regrouping in the mountainous forests of Adamawa State. The source said that militants, who were dislodged from Sambisa Game Reserve and other camps in Borno, had sought refuge in the Adamawa forests, especially in the Zumo area of Song Local Government Area. He also said that the sect members had been sighted in the forests of Maiha and Fufore local government areas of the state. “Most of the Boko Haram members who are running away from the military operations in Borno are moving into Adamawa State. They are regrouping in Zumo area of Song Local Government Area. Some are in Fufore and Maha local government areas. This particular area has a combination of mountains, rocks and bushes that extend to Cameroon,” he said. Our correspondents learnt that the sect members mingled with civilians when they were escaping from Borno to Adamawa State. Adamawa has a complex topography comprising mountains, rocks and thick forests that extend into the nation’s border with Cameroon. It is a mountainous land crossed by the large river valleys – Benue, Gongola and Yedsarem. The valleys of Cameroon, Mandara and Adamawa mountains form part of the landscape. The source, who spoke on condition that he would not be named, said that the focus of the Defense authorities that are coordinating the fight against the militants would change in the next few days from Northern Borno to Adamawa State. He further stated that the influx of suspected insurgents into Adamawa explained the decision of the Defense Headquarters to deploy additional 1,000 troops in the state in preparation for a similar military operation in the area. The source said, “This might be the reason behind the decision of the Defense Headquarters to deploy additional 1,000 soldiers in the state. “The attention of the Defense authorities and the Special Forces deployed to flush out suspected Islamic militants in the North- Eastern part of the country may shift from Borno where some of the earliest battles have been fought to Adamawa State.” http://www.punchng.com/news/insurgents-regroup-in-adamawa-mountains/ http://www.infonubia.com/2013/05/nigeria-boko-haram-regroups-in.html |
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - Nigeria offered an amnesty on Sunday to Islamist militants who surrender and said 17 people had been killed on the fifth day of a military operation to try to crush the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast. In their biggest offensive since the insurgency began in 2009, Nigerian forces are trying to chase well-armed militants out of territory they control in remote semi-deserts around Lake Chad, along the borders with Cameroon, Chad and Niger. They are also pursuing Boko Haram in northeastern cities such as Maiduguri, Borno state, where the sect has cells. A heavy military presence patrolled Maiduguri on Sunday, with checkpoints choking what little traffic there was. Nigeria's defence spokesman Brigadier General Chris Olukolade said the operation was continuing on Sunday, with patrols sent out to secure towns and villages, and that special forces had killed 14 insurgents in battles that left three Nigerian soldiers dead and seven wounded. President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in the states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The operation has targeted areas of Africa's top energy producer where Boko Haram, which is fighting to create a breakaway Islamic state in religiously mixed Nigeria, has bases and weapons caches. Nigerian forces used jets and attack helicopters to bombard militant camps in the northeast on Friday. Some analysts fear the offensive may have rendered the already slim chance of a political solution to the conflict even slimmer, but the president's spokesman Reuben Abati denied this. Jonathan set up a committee to work out the terms of a possible amnesty for Boko Haram members last month. "Mr President has urged Boko Haram members to surrender their arms and embrace the amnesty option, which is still open as the committee is working on the option of dialogue for a peaceful resolution," Abati said by telephone. An amnesty for militants in the oil-producing Niger Delta in 2009 helped end a conflict there that cut oil output by nearly half at one stage. But Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau rejected the offer of amnesty last month. www.infonubia.com |
