If my daughter inherits my type of hair, I will av 2 cut it until she is 6 n den start relaxing it. U guys dey try. I no fit carry natural hair n neither will my daughter. Ummm, your not supposed to put a relaxer on a 6 year old's hair. The box clearly says so. By the way, the ingredients in the relaxer is the same stuff in drain cleaners and is very acidic . |
I don't know - I guess what I am trying to say and I don't feel like I am doing a very good job saying it - is that "for her to have lived to this point and she cannot read or write" why does that even exist?
Why hasn't she on her own done something about that?
Is there no one in her family [if her family could not afford to send her to school] that she could have persistently hounded who could have taught her?
A neighbor, a pastor? Someone?
If a person wants something bad enough they get it, even if they have to steal it.
If I were you, I would present her with an opportunity to read and write and see how long it takes her to "jump on that opportunity" or watch to see if she drags her feet or gives excuses, etc.
That will tell you "why" she is still illiterate - if she drags her feet, don't make excuses for her - just look for another pretty face to replace her.
I understand what you are saying both in this comment and the previous comment but fstranger6 has a point. My grandmother doesn't know how to read and write either so for you to say "Why hasn't she on her own done something about that?", is a little offensive. You don't know what her life is or was like. Even if she could have hounded people there are some people that are in shame and afraid to ask for help even if it is the norm in Nigeria. I mean c'mon, look at how you and philip0906 is reacting to her inability to read or write. I tried several times to teach my grandmother to read but often times, she felt embarrassed. Although she was illiterate and still is, she was a very successful business woman. |

obenda: Yes I look for specific answers since my question was specific. I have not asked any of you for a SINGLE, homogeneous answer. I don't consider none of you as robots or clones.
For instance: do you prefer pointy or not pointy nose in white men? Do you prefer blu or black guys?
Do you prefer slim or large men?
I know that a set of aspects you prefer can be found both in white or black men, ok. But I am interested to know if some physical differences - which is typical of white men -is appealing to you just because it is DIFFERENT.
Fpr example, can you list me some white actors that you find attractive? Ok, I'm a bit confused here are you asking us women of Nairaland what we like as individuals or are you asking us to answer for African women as a whole? |

They're all saints abi? Only beautiful women are evil abi? So if that is the case, what about handsome men eh? Once again, this thread is a heaping load of crap. |

obenda: I don't like hook up in the Internet, I don't even have a Facebook profile. But from the anser I see I understand that my question is not interesting, every answer is so abstract and general, or maybe women here are bnot so bold to state what they really think? A couple of us have given you an answer. Seems like you were looking for a more specific answer. Look, we're all different so our answers will vary--we're not robots or clones that just spit out one specific answer. All I can say is, if/when you meet an African woman, just be yourself. If at some point in time she mentions where she's from then perhaps you can do some research on her county's culture to help you get to know her better [culturally speaking]. |

obenda: HI, i tried to reply to sinle posts but I can't see how---sorry.
To Mrs EVE: I' am interested in any useful answers. Yes I do like BW, but I am not here trying to get dated. Here's my history: when I was younger (now I'm 40) there were not black people in Italy, at least in the area where I've grown up. My idea of a beautiful woman was composed both of my preference and by cultural influences. I liked white girls and if you asked me then what top model i preferred teh probable answer was Claudia schiffer and not Naomi Campbell. I realised that Naomi was a beautiful woman but she was not sexy to me, could you believe that?
I recall to have an argument with a friend where I said that Naomi was great but I was indifferent to her beauty. It was legitimate to say that but nowadays, I smile to my old myself. Now that I like black girls I realise HOW MUCH cultural influences are powerful. With more and more black people around in Italy I started to look at different faces and bodies and almost completely changed my preferences. Now I stared to like black noses, lips, eyes and bodies, while before I didn't like them, probably because I could not see their beauty.
In recent years I have been dancing salsa and there I got contact with Cuban and other Caribbean people. My eyes opened to other kind of beauties and the process is still going on. It is also embarrassing for me and for the black girls I meet occasionally on the bus, shopping, etc. It is not polite to stare people but you know, when you are to be accustomed to other facial features and bodies, you need time to look, to observe the details in order to understand what is attractive or not. It is like i am "learning" a new language, a redefinition of what is beautiful.
I am still in this "learning process", and I know what I like in BW, that is I can make my personal list of aspects:
1. I like eye cat eyes, that is not big eyes (like some WW have) but thin eyes
2. I do like all the normal black body differences (bigger and higher backside), skin aspects
3. I do also like BW hair. I do understand that white girls hair is more silky and easier to dress, but sincerely I Don't understand why many BW are so desperate about their curly hair and crave to change them. Ok I underatnd tahta when you are fed up with a style and you want to change it you need to spend hours at the hairdresser, but it STRIKES me that - at least here - NO bW is leaving their hair natural,
4. NO need to make up. When a Bw is beautiful she really doesn't need to use make up while WW, even the MOST beautiful ones, are different of they use make up
OK, now some black woman would please tell me what they like in White men face, body, etc
To Area boy: please not all what they say of Italian guys is true, they are just stereotypes.
to sista-ja : please answer my question First of, let my start by welcoming you to Nairaland. OP, ready it seems that you are asking what it is that us African women look for in a white man right? Well, to answer your question, there really is no one particular answer to your question. People have many like and dislikes which may vary from country to country. Personally, the things I would look for in a white man isn't that different from what I would look for in a black men. I like men of all walks of life. What I may like in one Italian man may be different from what I would like in another Italian man. Peoples tastes vary from person to person. By the way, I know how you feel about the hair issue--not to worry though, there a is a growing number of black women who are keeping their hair natural. When European first came to the continent of Africa, it left a deep sense of inferiority within African society when it came to things such as beauty. I personally prefer to keep my hair natural. I hope this answers your question. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask . |

tunnytox: Utter nonsense! so ppl should not date beautiful girls anymore for the fear of being taken to devil's fold? I bet this is another scaremongering propaganda initiated by some ugly babes to get attention or rather by some churches to increase their membership. Ummm, I'll go with the second answer.

Eemeekaa: D devil has sent out beautiful 'ladies' to the outside world this year to get people into his folds,Guys be careful. OP, I have two things on my mind right now. 1) This is a load of crap
2) Why did you put quotation marks around the word ladies? |
