The Federal Government has approved a sum of N106 billion naira, through the Federal Executive Council (FEC), to commence the construction of five new, world-class international airports. Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah disclosed this in Abuja during a media briefing to update stakeholders on the development in the aviation sector. According to her, the Ministry had, on assumption of office, drawn up a roadmap which she explained had three phases in terms of implementation strategy. She said the first phase or short term agenda was to immediately give a face-lift to Nigerian Airports, explaining that this gave rise to the simultaneous remodelling and construction of 11 airports across the country. The airports, she stated, include the Murtala Mohammed International Airport and the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) both in Lagos, the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja and the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa. Others include Akanu lbiam International Airport Enugu, the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, Margaret Ekpo International Airport Calabar, Yakubu Gowon Airport Jos, the Yola, Kaduna and Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri. “As at this moment, the projects have reached 80 per cent completion and would be completed and put to use in the few weeks and months. The remaining airports will commence shortly”, she said. The Minister disclosed that at the end of the exercise, all 22 airports under the management of FAAN would wear a new and modern look. She further said that the second phase in the implementation strategy of the road map which falls under the medium term programme would be the construction of five new international terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu. She explained that the FEC approved for the award of contracts for the immediate take-off of construction work on the terminals. “Following the approval of FEC, we have concluded arrangement to commence construction of five brand new world class international airports. What we have today is not befitting of us as the giant of Africa”, she emphasised. Oduah maintained that this development must transcend the immediate euphoria that comes with the realisation that Nigeria dreams for standard airport are about to come to fruition. The Minister stressed that the government’s dream was to strive to transform Nigeria’s aviation sector into a major contribution to the nation GDP as the airports are pivotal to the actualisation of the dream. “The award of contracts for the construction of the five international airports will be significant first step in this direction. This is not even talking about the huge psychological lift this will do to our psyche as a nation, she said. She disclosed that the contracts for the construction of the five airports have a life span of 24 months while the projects were to be executed with a concessionary loan of 22 years with 5 years moratorium at an interest rate of 2 per cent. “Mobilisation to site by the contraction is expected to commence within 90 days. Also the third phase of our implementation strategy is the Aerotroplis project which are airport cities that provide clusters of businesses ranging from manufacturing, information and communication technology (ICT)”, she said. The minster, who told journalists that she would soon return to China to sign contract for the take off of construction work on the five new terminals, said the lifting of the suspension on Dana Airline was based on government’s satisfaction that the airline was airworthy, after carrying out a technical audit of the operator. |
Sincerely it seems many ppl give no thought about Independence &its implications on October 1st.We do all just because its a holiday...How do you see it? |
Many of the recent crashed marriages in Nigeria always ended with the clause " due to irreconcilable differences". What actually constitute these indifferences that couples did not see before marriage only to notice it later and allow it or them to splinter their marriage? |

Epilepsy is twice as common in low and middle-income countries as it is in the developed world, according to an international team of researchers. They say the higher incidence is linked to increased risk factors, including head injuries and infections such as pork tapeworm and river blindness. And more than 60% of sufferers in those countries receive no appropriate treatment, they say in the Lancet.Cases of Head injuries have increased over the years due to introduction of ''Okada'' and the concomitant risks. The lack of safety measures observation among many Nigerians also lead to this and thousands have died. A Lancet editorial said epilepsy had to be a global health priority. Epilepsy is a condition in which disturbances to the brain's normal electrical activity cause recurring seizures or brief episodes of altered consciousness. There are about 40 different types. Epilepsy is not a mental illness, but can develop after injury or damage to the brain. About 85% of the global burden of epilepsy occurs in low and middle-income countries like Nigeria. man linked to an anti-Islam video that sparked riots across the Muslim world has been held without bond after a hearing in Los Angeles, California. A judge said Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was a flight risk and cited a pattern of deception when making his ruling, Reuters news agency reported. Nakoula was investigated for violating probation terms after he was released from prison in 2011 for bank fraud. He has not been detained over the contents of the inflammatory video. Nakoula, who allegedly produced the 14-minute trailer for the film Innocence of Muslims, was banned from accessing the internet or using an alias without an officer's permission under the terms of his probation. Earlier, the Obama administration had requested Google, the company that owns YouTube, to remove the clip. The technology firm refused, saying the film did not violate its rules. The US Attorney's office in Los Angeles confirmed Nakoula had been taken into custody earlier on Thursday. "Mr Nakoula was arrested pursuant to allegations made by the Probation Office that he has violated the terms of his supervised release," spokesman Thom Mrozek said. He had been in hiding after the release of the video. Source:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19753804 The rule of law in a highly organized society. When do we get there?

Yomieluv: The problem with Nigeria is that we are certificate crazy, anyone without a formal education is seen as a failure, whereas 90% of what been taught are irrelevant to the course studied, and not applicable in real life situation. I salute your courage,God will keep the dream alive IJN.Thanks.Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are in the same line. |
That somebody lost a job is no big news but we all know why this suddenly ascended the front page. For those who are insinuating that he has been always in the employ of defunct airlines,i believe he is not the only person who has had this same event in his life and in the same sequence(if you actually did a good research). i wish him well and pray he gets something better soon to keep the family smooth. |
grandlexuz: I was thinking on same lines. Terrible journalism skills. It seems to be all over the place. Are they really trained journalists? |
Much talk about the country go on daily.ppl talk about Nigeria rising again and taking its place once more in the comity of nations;assuming her leadership status as it was in the beginning. BUT most times the actions and attitudes of the people who say these things go in direct contrast to what they are saying or trying to tell us.Governors who pay a full one year bill for Burj al arab, leaders that chatter private jet to attend a useless meeting where your presence was insignificant, people who tell us that they don't give a damn, increasing hunger and hopelessness on the face of 90% of the ppl with the leaders seeming to be clueless on what to do... Leaders who cannot build a small health center in their village but spend billions for treatment abroad, etcIt seems to me that everyone is stealing or trying to outdo the other in the looting process because no one sincerely believes that anything good is going to come out of this country or union. So the notion is ''before the building collapses, let me gather enough share'' Do you believe that we can make any headway at all? Do you sincerely believe that Nigeria can rise above all this, and how? |

PHIPEX: Can someone tell me why this man waited till now to write and launch his book, what is special about age 77 that is different from age 70? My mind tells me that he wants to capitalise on his current position in PDP to corner more of our collected national wealth. |

CyberG: It is either you are a little kid of too stupid to realize that those ibos you mentioned are NOT there for tribalistic ibos like you, they are there for the entire country. Obviously, they are all substandard and failures in everything this government does and WILL do and that is reflective of the abysmal display of this clueless government. A losing team is the product of inferior quality and that is the hall mark of this government and the team of thieves and inferior personnel at the helm. At the end of the day, they CANNOT & should not do anything other than the general good of Nigeria not SE or ibos. This kind of thinking is what caused the civil war when the initial calculation of ibos turned completely against them thinking the Hausas will be there to kiss their ass. At the end of the day, they came up with the short end of the stick. Tribalistic ibos like you did it and they got their result, but you seem to know nothing of Nigerian history!Your piece here is indicative of one who has a bitter hatred for the Igbo man...it could not even allow you to assimilate the post...What is your problem abeg and whats the point of all this stuff you posted here?when you have nothing to say except depicting some misguided tribal sentiments please stay aside and read others' comments.YOu must not comment...its not compulsory to to comment...CHEERS |
From the Secretary to the Federal government,Deputy senate president,Chief of army staff,Deputy speaker HOUSE of assembly,Co-ordinating minister for the economy,Petroleum resources Minister.etc...PLUS all the governors controlling respective states.. .Abeg add the one you remember...Still NOTHING is happening (tangible infrastructural and manpower development) in the south-east...I wonder what an igbo president will be able to achieve and what the clamouring is for, or is it just for the records? |
