My Thoughts on Big Brother Naija? I have heard and seen so many arguments about this reality TV show called Big Brother Naija. On one side, many condemn it with varying reasons while on the other, some say there is nothing wrong with it and even go on to call those who condemn it ‘hypocrites’. Thus, I will lend my thoughts to it. America’s STUPID INDEX is known to have risen quite disturbingly with the influx of reality TV shows back in the early 2000s. To salvage this, American content creators and government met and decided to use the media to educate Americans and make them become smarter and thus reduce the stupid index. The outcome of this is the making of science fiction TV series and inclusion of intelligent conversations in popular TV shows and movies. In no time, these made America’s growing generation become smarter than the previous and yes, we have seen them leading in many tech related sectors. Many people have wanted me to talk about the current BIG BROTHER NIGERIA show currently showing on cable TV. This is my take on it. In the face of a global drive towards a tech-driven future, Africans are glued to the screen giving their eyes to what many have argued over its adding little or nothing to their brainworth. The argument of the pro-BBNaija divide is that it is ‘just entertainment’ and that people who criticize it do worst than what the housemates do. However, gone are the days when TV was just for entertainment purposes only. Countries like America are actually using TV/Films to position the minds of their youths to become smarter and more in tune with the realities of the incoming age. Next year, the world’s first flying cars will be launched and orders are already being made from this month. They costs between $400,000 and $600,000. Ofcourse those cars will be ordered from all over the world. Not only will it increase the GDP of the country of its makers but it will also move the world way forward into the awaiting reality of the global future. Do we remember how many Science fiction movies and TV series that showed this reality over and over again before now? The developed world does not leave media to charlatans or see it as just for entertainment purposes only. The media can be used to show a reality which eventually becomes what is rife in the society. It is used to show viewers what realities to aspire for and can either be used to position the minds of a people right and raise a generation of smart youths who reach out and do exploits OR it can be used to increase the STUPID INDEX of a people. I’ll say one thing without mincing words, #BBNaija is yet another one of those shows that will and is already increasing the STUPID INDEX of Africans. Is there nothing wrong with having a show on TV that shows footages of married and single people going bare-breasted and having foul indulgences in the full glare of a viewing public (even their families are watching including maybe their kids) and then rewarding N25million to the winning housemate for being in a house like that? What exactly are the winners being rewarded for? What are we encouraging the youths watching it to do eventually in society? Have we thought of the children that will grow up seeing footages of their moms/dads on youtube with sleazy acts and how this will affect their reality or are we thinking of only ourselves and voyeuristic hunger? TV shows like ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ actually rewards people for answering smart questions and thus not only makes the viewers learn what they may not know but shows that you can be rewarded for being smart. We complain of the government and every other thing but what do we accept that will become an Achilles heel for our sound existence tomorrow? Just as Americans deliberately used film/TV to raise a generation of smart citizens, we shuld realize that what we expose our youths to eventually becomes what they make society become. Dear Africans, it is up to you. You need to know more to be able to do more. Whatever content you expose yourself to on a regular either makes you know more or makes you know less than you should. It’s either your INTELLIGENCE is being fed or your IGNORANCE is being entertained with graver ignorance. Dear BBNaija lovers, no we are not all perfect and some of us may be doing worse ‘stuff’ than what the housemates are doing on TV like you are quick to say but trust me, the effect of constantly exposing a generation to the depravity of society does not only embolden the depraved but also raises a generation of depraved minds eventually. Is anyone looking at the STUPID INDEX of Nigerians like the Americans looked at theirs keenly and introduced the kind of content that is raising smart Americans and preparing them for the coming tech age? Why is America and developed worlds focusing on Technology and giving us more ‘science techy’ scripts for TV, films, events and even in music videos? It is because technology is the engine room of prosperity. They are exposing their own to this. Let’s expose Africa to the right content and watch Africans rise from ignorance and the rather slipshod reality of it’s today. It will require deliberate content that ‘smartens’ put through to us through the media (TV, Film, Radio, Online, Print) and the reduction of the kind of content that depraves Africans and keep our minds in the gutters. Why have I used America as the yardstick over and over again? The Big Brother show is not Nigerian. It is a foreign TV franchise. If we must mimic or run franchises from international platforms, let’s ensure we take that which is moving them and the world forward. Let's deliberately reduce our STUPID INDEX with content that will help do so. I am concerned about Africa’s relevance in the global future. You should be too. Copied: UJSizzle |
For me, i believe Kemen and I don't rily see any big deal in that video. But my problem with Kemen is, why is it so difficult for you to leave TBoss alone? She has said it many times that she doesn't like you.....If babe no dig you as a guy, you take a walk ...Babe plenty naaa. .....idiot. |
The way some people have carried this programme on their head and defending people who they don't know or know them with their life is a direct reflection that WE are actually jobless, less busy and empty minded. People who have quality things occupying their mind cant be all over a game show making enemies, insulting people they don't know all to know meaningful end. I just wish we can all also come together like this to make an invention, solve a societal problem or birth ideas that can move Nigeria forward. Please before you attack me, just take a chill pill, breathe in and sincerely ask conscience if this is true or not. |
These people are SIMPLY MAD!!! |
What a list by an Ipod yoots, celebrating his kinsmen....the Op was so daft that his topic contradicts the list...he said Famous Nigerian Political Heroes...and then Iweala and Akunyili came up.........so they were also politicians...........Point of correction, Aguiyi Ironsi was an Ibo propangandist who protected a group of his Kinsmen that murdered in cold blood Nigerian Leaders of different tribe but protected Azikiwe, their tribe men. The problem of this country started with that unfortunate coup plotted by Ibo officers....That is to say, Yeebos are the problem of this country...they will continue to suffer for it |
kingzizzy:Some people are just eternally dump. So seceding and sending soldiers to capture Lagos by Ojukwu isn't a signal to the beginning of War. In the past I used to wander why you people have refused to think and call a spade a spade but lately I have come to understand that deeply rooted in an Ibo man's DNA ( even Igbokwe confirmed it) is a "blame them all but me syndrome" , "even when I'm wrong, they caused it" syndrome. Only few Igbos have come out publicly to blame Ojukwu for plunging them in to a war they never had the capacity for. Imagine, a chest beater that is self centered, you even said Adebayo missed the chance to become the first Military President, what a useless thinking, your thinking is similar to that of Ojukwu and that stupid thinking led to the death of millions of people. Not until when you people start thinking properly, your miserable situation won't change. gerrarahia |
seunlayi:Naa...it doesn't make him a fool...It's just weird I think |
Wait...is Baba Akande Tinubu's unofficial aide? |
Odingo1:Lol...your sense of engagement in discussions is poor. Despite all the facts I dished out in there all you could come up with it is this? For the records, I know your fathers and their fathers in their usual way also misinformed you about this too, Offa town in Kwara state has no emirate stool. The story behind the emirate stool in illorin has been told , you can find out about it. But pls, dont ask your kinsmen, truth is alien to them. It is so unfortunate that your tribe that has lost against Yoruba on all war front is asking me what we have ever stood for. We stood and still standing for the actualization of the Nigerian dream; wherein every tribe, majority or minority would be able to achieve their desired goal with due respect to others. We stood and still stand for a Nigeria where deluded and uncultured tribe with a deep vestigial trait of hatred are made to understand that the world does no revolve around an individual, a tribe or a race alone. We stood and still stand for a Nigeria wherein democracy is the order of governance and the people are given the right to choose who to lead them without threat or coercion. These and many more are the things we stood and still stand for that made us to sub-due the lost tribe of Israel during the civil war. These are the reasons why we are the champion of democracy in Nigeria; via advocation, sensitization, bridge-building, inclusion, and even electioneering. The reason why we continue to disgrace and show superiority to those ( wailing tribe) who are still babies to the democratic games. Since 1999 we have been and would be more relevant in Nigeria's democracy more than any other tribe, mind you, our relevance is devoid of inferiority complex, lack of a political stand and confusion. |
Youngadvocate:Bros I am not also fighting you.....Ibos looked up to Ojukwu at the time cos he was outspoken about their course. He assumed the role of a leader . Nobody made him the leader of the Ibos but himself. Come to think of it, how can he even be chosen as the leader of the Ibos when people like Nnamdi Azikiwe was still living? But the dude was power drunk, he wanted power by all means and couldn't stomach the fact that Gowon is now the Head of State. He took an opportunity at the expense of his own people, just like many Ibo leaders did with him. Often times inhave asked these questions; howany of Ojukwus, Achebes, Effiongs, Azikiwes children died either through the celebrated starvation or gun during the war? Despite the propagated animosity during the war, how come Achebe was still able to father 2 children during the war? How come Ojukwu was able to make provision for his family when he was fleeing but couldn't make provisions for the people of Biafra? Rather, he left them to suffer the bad fate he brought on them. Adolf Hitler could have ran away after it became clear that he had lost, Mohammad Ghadaffi was offered assylum by Russia and Saudi Arabia, they all refused cos they were men of Honour; who were genuine in their course, stood and died for what they believed in. But our Coward friend (Ojukwu) after beating his chest that he'll bring Nigeria to her kneels , after subjecting the Ibos to unwanted war , he fled in the middle of the night. Maybe he would have died a hero if he lost his life during the war , rather than live a villain after the war. No wonder Ibos never voted for him in all the elections he contested. Even Nnewi Senatorial election he lost. What a shame. |
pazienza:Iinfact I have many problems with them; 1. For making me think that all humans are to be treated with respect and accommodated irrespective of tribe or race. 2. I have problem with them for keeping the properties of Ibos during the war while their properties in he North and even PHC were looted. 3. I have problems with them for making Ibos feel.so.much at home in South-West unlike making them feel he'll on earth which the Hausa-Fulani constantly subject them to. 4. I have problems with them for their that irrespective of where we come from, every person that lives in an environment deserves to be given a chance in the government of that environment. Even if such a people won't do same. 5. I have so many problems with them, for thinking that everyone deserves to be treated with love and respect even if not earned or valued. 6. I will prefer a kind of treatment being meted to strangers in the North, so that ourUNGRATEFUL visitors can know that it is a privilege. So many things I have problems with in their behaviour, c'mon how can you be good to ingrates. |
pazienza:Sometimes I wonder if the hatred in you peoples life is just in the flash or blood, but I cant but believe it is congenial. There's nothing that can be done to pacify children of hate, Hausa-Fulani that purnished your fathers and mother's during the war you don't take them up but Yorubas. Sometimes I wonder when you people talk of hatred towards you from the Yoruba, if not that you and your fathers are naturally ungrateful people. You would have known that before an after the war no tribe has bn more accommodating to the yeebos than Yoruba.... No tribe ppotwcted your properties during the war than Yorubas did but cos Yorubas are forever ahead of you, which is too bittter for you to swallow, na to hate. Besides, what is you peoples problem with Yoruba succeeding, if we decide to it not , it is none of your fathers business. Only cowards and people that have accepted to be perpetual loosers run away from challenges. Yeebos lost and wanted to run awa, the same way they lost in 2015 and crying to secceed. The naked truth is, you people will continue to loose in Nigeria and wont be allowed to go anywhere, you'll be seriously whipped to line. Politically you're irrelevant and a minority in this Country. |
Youngadvocate:Can you see that your sense of reasoning n comprehension needs urgent improvement? Who made him the leader of the Eastern Nigeria? Does bn the Governor of Eastern Nigeria, via appointment of the FG at the time translates to "leader" in your own word? You decided to be smart by half and left all.the damming points and ask an irrelevant question, maybe you should ask yourself what caused the pogrom as well. |
Lol...kikikikikiki....it is so unfortunate that this lies will continue to spread till eternity.....look at he children of hate blaming Awolowo for self inflicted pain and death. I read the article carefully and I could see through the wall scripted self exhonorating lies of Mr. Azikiwe. Who in many instances absolved himself of any blame whatsoever. He was so smart that he apportion blame to both sides (Awolowo , FG and Ojukwu) but none to himself. That is typical of an Ibo man, they are never wrong. Ofcourse how can they be wrong? Imagine a stupid argument and statement from Ojukwu and his errand peace maker, you want to make peace with Nigeria. You didn't seek solution in Nigeria but rather declared a sovereignty within a sovereignty a d you're expecting the other party to come sit with you in a round table. Discussing what exactly? Imagine some one takes a portion of your land and his seeking for peace afterward. Why not return the land and address the issue that made you do that in the first place.... Many people have not asked the right question, beyond the exaggerated pogrom of 1966 which was causedby the killing of Northern leaders by Ibo soldiers, could there be other reasons for Ojukwus hurryfor seccession? What was really Ojukwus problem about accepting Gowon as the Head of state? Why declare a war when you know you dont have want it takes to fight it? If the pogrom of 1966 by Northern soldiers was bad, then Ojukwus declaration of seccession was worse. Cos that singular action resulted in more death than the pogrom. Lastly, why will a Soldier who declared war for the love of his people ( assume), in the thick of it abandon the same people and run with his own family to anoda country? |
MrMcJay:You are indeed an intelligent man sir. Tinubu used Mourinho's tactics. Instead of everybody focusing on Osinbajo, he makes a statement and divert all political discussions, attacks and arrangement away from Osinbajo. That man is an intelligent man, he's always steps ahead of others. Tinubu knows Osinbajo is his best shot at the presidency and hes jealously protecting him. |
ihesiuloa:I'm sorry bro..this is not an argument. Just do a little google and find out. A full documentary and report was done by CNN when Prince Willaims first son was about to be born. I know you think youre right cos he's the old woman's son but hell no that changed some years ago when he decided to marry Camilla; an old time lover. Seriously friend, I am not second guessing. FACTS |
Guy you should have used cities and I would have listed the following cities: Sagamu (Head quarter of fraudsters in Niger, infact that is where general meeting holds), Abeokuta, Ibadan, Oshogbo and Ogbomoso, oohhhh Ilorin as well |
businesscitadel:Then he should do a better job next time.. cos he's the least visible amongst all of them. |
Innovator90:Baba, Prince Charles isn't the heir apparent o......na his son, Prince William. He lost the crown some years ago...read about Charles vs Diana vs Camilla. After Prince William, the next in line is his small boy and after him is his uncle (his father's younger brother), Prince harry. The uncle moved from 2nd to 3rd when the boy was born.... |
Who exactly is the writer of this story trying to sell to readers; Praiz, Big Church Foundation, Olakunle Churchill or the "Supposed" fast rising TV presenter?......you lost all of them in one soup....d tin come be like okro soup with orisirisi. |
Azeequeen:Hmmmm.... |
@TonyeBarcanista: I did not finish reading this write up but the part where you said the trio of VP, Kemi Adeosun and emefiele dragged us in to this economic woe nailed it for me....Please get your facts right, THIS GOVT OR ANYONE IN IT DID NOT GET US IN TO RECESSION....RECESSION AND THE PRESENT ECONOMIC WOE WE ARE IN STARTED IN THE WINDFALL OF 2014....MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS TEAM IS NOT HAVING THE POLITICAL WILL AND REQUIRED EXPERTISE SKILLS TO TAKE US OUT OF IT........ |
Azeequeen:OMG!!! soo true! but how come have never seen it like this....hmmm |
She is the Chairman not the Managing Director.....MD runs a Coy. |
Hmmm...UI and wonders. from 7.0 to 4.0 why not 5.0? |
lrdval:Sorry sir, pardon your boy he doesn't know it is a crime to have a divergent opinion....eediot!! |
cr7lomo:If your allegation up there is true...then people (viewers) need to know...its all crap then. I mean...I'm beginning to hate the whole thing sef |
THis BBN is looking more fake and fake by the hour...the reason why I have lost the little interest I had... How come they all knew each other before BB house..when over 4000 people went for auditioning. It seems like the only naïve people here are the viewers..but wetin consign me...na the people wey dey waste deir money cast vote na dem be the REAL loosers!! |
vladimiros:OMG!!!..you deserve more than this |
nmreports:Thank you for this post...this question is the most important question in an interview session, as it sets the tone for the remaining part of the session. If one gets it right, hemight probably kill the interview and vice-versa. But please can you share a real example for an experienced hirer, like you did for a graduate trainee? Thank you. |
Look at the way young Nigerians are defending the political class that has disappointed our founding fathers and plunged this country to a sorry state.... One person even went as far to say GEJ as no offshore account, even the man himself won't even swear to that... This country is bleeped... |
