Christianity EtcWe Know God’s Truth Through Careful Consideration by ipreach(op): 6:26am On Apr 02, 2017
“Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established” (Proverbs 4:26 HCSB).

When you tell God, “I want the truth more than anything else,” he will reveal his truth to you in a variety of ways, such as through creation or your conscience and also through careful consideration.

In other words, truth is knowable. You can test it. You can experiment with it. You can prove it.

If I want to go to San Francisco and I follow a map that takes me to San Francisco, and the next week I follow the same map to San Francisco again, eventually I figure out that the map is true.

The same is true of the Bible: If you follow its map again and again, you’ll find it to be true. It always takes you where it says it’s going to take you. You may not always like where it takes you, but it always takes you where it says it’s going to take you.

Often people say, “Why won’t God just write it in the sky?” Why would God do that? He gave you a brain. But most people never slow down long enough for such careful consideration. Most people just drift through life.

The Bible tells us, “Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established” (Proverbs 4:26 HCSB).

Spend some time in careful consideration and thoughtful observation, and ask yourself: “Am I on a true path?”

CrimeComedian Who Paid N200,000 As Bail To Police Demands Justice by ipreach(op): 8:05pm On Mar 31, 2017
A comedian has accused officers at the Igando Police Station in Lagos State of collecting N200,000 as bail after he was arrested and detained for two days.

Daniel Adiri, known for his police skits, was on his way to a location on Monday when he was accosted by the policemen from Igando who searched his bag and discovered a police costume. He was promptly arrested for impersonation and detained.

Adiri told The Punch he was detained for two days because he refused to pay the N500,000 demanded by the police as bail, adding that he was not allowed to make telephone calls until Tuesday evening when he reached out to a friend who paid N200,000 for his freedom.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent, the comedian said, “I wasn’t with my ID card but I told them who I am, even people that were passing by told the policeman that that guy is a comedian and most of his comedy videos are done in police uniform.

“They insisted I showed them my comedy videos and they even went online and saw my details.”

Though demanding justice, Adiri said he would not sue the Police for extorting money from him, explaining that “I don’t have time for a case, that was why I bailed myself.”

Adiri further alleged that he was not the only one extorted by the police at Igando. He said that using a stop and search formula, the police arrested “not less than 11 men they brought in at different times. They will be going on their own and they will stop them and start searching them.”

“If they search you they will end up seeing one thing they will use against you. That is not their work, [they] should be making peace rather than make every single Nigerian hate them.

“Make them change. I saw change begins with me there. That police station is making not less than N1 million every day because different cases are there even the ones that are not guilty in any way.”

Illustrating his point, Adiri said the police arrested and detained some boys for taking pictures of them [the police] dragging a man.

“They arrested those boys, small boys, and we were in the cell. Later those boys’ people came and paid for their freedom, what an injustice, where is the country going to?”

When asked if he had a permit to use the uniform for his skit, Adiri said no. He, however, said collecting N200,000 for the offence was theft on the part of the police.

He said, “Okay if I am guilty of the impersonation they charged me with, won’t they take me to court? And they ended up collecting N200,000.”

But a lawyer while commenting in the post, said if he was really guilty of impersonation, he should pay a fine of N10,000 or be jailed for two months.

However, A police source at the station denied knowledge of the incident. He said he would make necessary enquiries and get back to our correspondent.

PoliticsWhy Ayade Locked Out SSG, Others For Reporting Late To Work by ipreach(op): 7:04am On Mar 30, 2017
WORKERS in the Governor’s Office, Calabar, Cross River State, were yesterday, locked out of their offices on the instruction of the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, at 7.33a.m., when he arrived his office and found that most workers were yet to report for work.

Ayade, according to a source, arrived his office about 7.20 a.m., to find the entire place almost desolate as most workers, including cleaners, were yet to show up at their duty posts, a situation which irked the governor, causing him to instruct his security aides to shut the gate at 7.33 a.m. Those locked out include Mrs Tina Agbor, Secretary to State Government, and other principal political office holders whose offices were within the precinct of the Governor’s Office.

“His Excellency arrived here about 7.20 a.m., and the entire place was like a ghost town. He went into his office and after about 15 minutes, most of the people he needed to work with were not yet on their seats, so he asked us to lock the gate,” a security aide to the governor told Vanguard.

The source said the governor was scheduled to host a team from the Cross River Basin Development Authority at 9a.m., and the Managing Director of First Bank at 12p.m.

He reported early to the office and to his chagrin found that most of the workers were not on seat. One of the workers at the gate said the resumption time for civil servants, as contained in the state’s Civil Service Rules, is 8a.m., noting that the governor locking the gate at 7.33a.m., was unusual. “We know that the resumption time for civil servants is 8a.m., as contained in the Cross River State Civil Service Rules. But since the governor wants us to resume at 7.33 a.m., we have taken the correction and shall be coming here at that time,” she said

Mr Chris Ita, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, told Vanguard that this was not the first time his boss was locking out workers for reporting late to work, saying he wouldn’t know if the governor was going to undertake any punitive measure against the workers but no action was taken apart from the humiliation they suffered.

At 12noon when Vanguard left the place, most workers were still outside the gate while some were seen pleading with the security men to allow them inside.

“I don’t want to pre-empt His Excellency on the action he plans to take this time but the last time he did it, he said it was to expose the late comers to the humiliation of being locked out of their offices so that they would take correction and stop coming to work late.”

Mr John Ushie, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Chairman in the state, said the union has no hands in the lock out of workers by the governor since he has the rights to discipline workers at any time.

“Go and ask the governor who locked out the workers and not NLC ; why should we react because the governor locked out workers who report late to work?” he queried As at 12noon, when Vanguard left the place, most workers were still outside the gate standing while some were seen pleading with the security men to allow them inside.

PoliticsI Have Never Seen Where Democracy Is Mocked Like In Nigerian – Dogara by ipreach(op): 6:53am On Mar 30, 2017
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday, took a look at the ongoing controversy between the Senate and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Alii, describing the development as mere distractions.

Dogara, who fielded questions from senior journalists in Abuja, said the most important thing that should have been considered was whether the man had delivered on his mandate.

Although he did not mention the upper legislative chamber in his briefing, Dogara said that it was also necessary to look at what the Nigerian laws say about wearing of uniforms by public officers and see whether any of the laws had been adhere to or breached by Ali.

“So you have to look at all these issues before you come to a conclusion. As far as I am concerned these are mere distractions. They are not supposed to be; the main issue is delivery. What is it that we are delivering? That is it,” Dogara said.

The Speaker said that although he could not say whether the House of Representatives would support the resolution passed by the Senate against Ali, he would only wait to see what happens when the discussion gets to the floor of the House for debate. He said, “But for a decision to be made in line with what the Senate proposed to the House, you can only wait till the matter comes before the House and that decision will be taken and Nigerians will know”.

The Speaker, who also took at look at the performance of the federal government since coming to power in 2015, claimed that the administration could not be accused of disappointing Nigerians given where it was coming from and what it inherited from the previous administration.

He said, “We have gone very far in trying to tackle this issue of insurgency and as a matter of fact all hostile spots have been liberated. This Government through various interventions has been able to ensure that the terrorists are not holding unto any swatch of land.

“I believe this is one major thing that has given some hope to Nigerians, for the very first time that we are in a position to overcome this problem, and it is critical, even if it’s for nothing else that our citizens in the Northeast zone down to Abuja can move around more freely than before, that is something.

“For me, I can say that a lot has been achieved even though unsung in most cases. In the context of our society, people want to see first-class roads, hospitals, they want to see the tangibles, but nobody places value on the intangibles.

“For us who come from the Northeast, even some of us who live and work in Abuja, remember how dire this issue of terrorism was. We were all living on the throes of violence. The Police Headquarters here was bombed, U.N Mission here in Abuja was bombed, bombs exploded in Kaduna, Kano, Jos, in Nyanya as well and there was even threat of this mayhem being exported to the Southwest and other regions of this country.

“If you look at it today, we have exited from that. The biggest problem of democracy is that with violence you cannot take the benefits of democracy. Democracy as we practice: Presidential democracy has three promises: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The number one responsibility of Government is the security and welfare of the citizens. But the Speaker expressed disappointment with the treatment meted out to the Peace Corps of Nigeria even with the passage of the bill to make it a national security outfit in Nigeria by the National Assembly.

Dogara made it clear that the National Assembly would muster the required majority in both chambers to veto the President on the matter if he withholds his assent to the National Peace Corps Bill already passed and transmitted to the Presidency.

He maintained that there could be no limit to spend in securing the lives and property of Nigerians since the government exists to protect lives and property. He warmed, “So the Bill is still there before the President for his assent. If he doesn’t assent to it for whatever reason, we are at liberty to recall it back to parliament and muster the 2/3 in the House and Senate and pass in spite of Mr.

President’s veto. But right now that is not the discussion. The Speaker also express dissatisfaction with the way the executive has been treating resolutions from the NASS with levity and hinted that a committee had been raised to compile resolutions passed but not complied with by the executive for necessary actions.

Mr. Dogara promised to take steps to ensure the amendment of the Local Government Law in Nigeria to give autonomy to the 774 councils in the country and return the conduct of local elections to INEC to ensure credibility, fairness and competitiveness as opposed to the current hijack of the process by the respective states. He said the removal of autonomy from LGAs had created middlemen who deny the councils of the needed development.

“The current system is not working, and it has become a system whereby some have constituted themselves into middle men along the lines; they grab the resources meant for the development at the grass root and appropriate it the way they deem fit.

“And, there is a twin evil which is that of state independent electoral commissions that gives birth to a total mockery of democracy in the way the State Independent Electoral Commissions conduct elections that are usually won by just one party in power in the respective states. “I have never seen where democracy is mocked like in Nigerian local government elections. I don’t know how we can continue to mock ourselves that we are practising democracy at the third tier of government.

PoliticsThree Things I Did While In Prison — Obasanjo by ipreach(op): 7:03am On Mar 27, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday narrated his prisons experience and declared that he did three things while he was in Yola and Kirikiri prisons serving a jail term for a phantom coup charges by the late military dictator, Sani Abacha.

He also said there should be no position that a man should find himself in life where he should not be useful to God.

He also posited that the major challenge in life was not how to stay alive but “what to live for and what to live with.”

Obasanjo said this while recalling his experience as an inmate in Yola Prison where he said he met a hardened armed robber and serial murderer, Baba Ali, who he preached to and later sent to the bible school and who has today become a pastor over a Baptist Church.

The ex-President spoke at Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos, where the Lagos State Baptist Conference held a thanksgiving service to mark his 80th birthday.

The programme was tagged, “Special Commemorative, Commendation and Congratulatory Birthday Service.”

Recalling his time as an inmate, Obasanjo said he did three remarkable things, which were that he built a church while in prison; started a farm, converted Baba Ali to a Christian and served as prison pastor.

He narrated, “There’s a difference between joy and happiness. In prison, I had joy but it will be madness for me to say that when I was in prison I was happy. How can you be in prison and say you are happy? But I was having the joy of God with me, not for one day was I sad. And I am grateful to God for the experience that I had in the prison.

“I will mention three things that God made me to do when I was in Yola Prison. One, God made me to build a church. It’s very unusual, I asked the authorities for land, they were reluctant, but eventually they gave me land and immediately, we started getting donations. It was started before I left Yola. Wherever you are, you can still be useful to the work of God.

“Secondly, there was a parcel of land, which was not being used for anything, so, I told the prison authorities that I wanted to farm. They were reluctant but eventually they granted me the permission to farm and I grew enough beans to feed all the inmates and the warders. Don’t remain idle, get something doing.”

The third thing he did, Obasanjo said, was at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos where he took over as the prison pastor.

He said he took over as prison pastor because the prison authorities banned preachers from coming in after some white garments preachers who came to preach had helped some inmates to escape by dressing them in white garments.

He said, “They made sure we did not receive anybody from outside to come and preach to us or fellowship with us. So, I took over as the prison pastor. And there was a boy whom they had introduced to me, his nickname was Baba Ali. Baba Ali was the head of the armed robbers in the North. And if you were an armed robber and you came to the prison, you must first of all go and pay homage to Baba Ali. If you were going out, you must go to Baba Ali and ask him for instruction on what you had to do next.

“So, I called Baba Ali one day and said, ‘You are not coming to fellowship; I want you to be coming to the fellowship.’ He said, ‘Baba, don’t worry me; don’t worry me at all because God can never forgive me. I have killed so many people in my life; I have drunk the blood of so many people; I have eaten the flesh of so many people and God will never forgive me, so, don’t waste your time about me.’

“I left Baba Ali on that occasion, and I waited for some time before I went back and said, ‘Baba Ali, you know all you said that you are a murderer, whether you killed only one person or a thousand people, you are a murderer; but have you forgotten that Moses was a murderer but God used him to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt? David was a murderer but God called him a man after my heart.

“By the time I was leaving the prison, I told Baba Ali that if he was able to make it and he would like to go to bible school, I would send him to bible school. Baba Ali came out of prison two years after me. By the time he came out I had become the President of Nigeria. It took him two years to get through to me, when he got to me, I reminded him of our agreement and he said he was ready to go to the bible school. So, I sent him to the seminary. Baba Ali spent two years in the seminary, today Baba Ali is the pastor of a Baptist Church. What is more? Baba Ali’s junior brother took after him and has also become a pastor.”

The church presented Obasanjo with a bible, a bell and a bottle of olive oil.

He was accompanied by his wife Bola, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora among others.

PoliticsN19bn Paris Club Scam: EFCC Report Indicts Saraki, Aides, Ex-bank MD by ipreach(op): 6:54am On Mar 27, 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has submitted a report to President Muhammadu Buhari linking Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and some of his aides to the diversion of about N19bn from the N522bn Paris Club refund.

The report also fingered Mr. Robert Mbonu of Melrose General Services Limited.

Mbonu is a former Managing Director of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, the commercial bank owned by the Saraki family which was later liquidated.

The Federal Government had, in December 2016, approved the sum of N522.74bn to be paid to the 36 states of the federation as part of the reimbursement of the over-deduction on the Paris Club loan from 1995 to 2002.

The EFCC had sometimes in January discovered that the loan refunds were illegally routed through the account of the Nigeria Governors Forum by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Upon receiving the funds, the NGF, in an alleged connivance with Saraki, began remitting huge sums to private consultants who then laundered about N19bn.

According to the report, apart from the NGF, others under investigation include the Relationship Manager to the Senate President in Access Bank, Kathleen Erhimu.

Some others under probe and identified as Saraki’s aides include Obiora Amobi, Gbenga Makanjuola, Kolawole Shittu and Oladapo Idowu.

The report alleges that sometimes in December, Saraki introduced the ex-bank MD, Mbonu, to Erhimu.

Others at the meeting were Saraki’s aforementioned aides.

It added that sequel to the meeting, the sum of N3.5bn was lodged into Melrose General Services Company account number 0005892453, domiciled in Access Bank from the Nigeria Governors Forum on December 14.

The report stated that two of Saraki’s aides, Obiora Amobi and Gbenga Makanjuola, were introduced to Access Bank as representatives of Melrose General Services Limited by Mbonu to enable them to make cash withdrawals from the account.

It added that Amobi and Makanjuola made cash withdrawals in various tranches of N5m and N10m.

The report reads in part, “Based on the foregoing findings, it is clear that Robert Mbonu, the Managing Director of Melrose General Services Company and his company were used to help divert proceeds of unlawful activities under the guise of payment for contractual obligations with the Nigeria Governors Forum.

“Suffice to apprise that all payments received by Melrose General Services Company from the NGF have hitherto been diverted directly via cash withdrawals and indirectly through transfers by Gbenga Peter Makanjuola, Kolawole Shittu and Oladapo Joseph Idowu, who are principal aides to the Senate President.

“Furthermore, other payments from Melrose General Services Company have also been linked to companies that Dr. Bukola Saraki has interest in and carries out transactions with.

“This includes the sum of $183,000, which was transferred to Bhaska Devji Jewellers, Dubai, a company Dr. Bukola Saraki had repeatedly made payments to.

“Also, the sum of N200m was transferred to Wasp Networks Limited that subsequently transferred the sum of N170m to Xtract Energy Services Limited, a company that routinely made deposits into Dr. Saraki’s Access Bank US Dollar Domiciliary account.”

The report concludes that a prima facie case of conspiracy to retain the proceeds of unlawful activities and money laundering, contrary to sections 15(3) and 18(9) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2004, could be established against the aforementioned suspects.

“Additionally, investigation into their personal accounts is ongoing,” it adds.

When contacted, the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, who spoke on behalf of Saraki, said he would not react except he sighted the report.

“Send the report to me and I will be able to read it and contact the necessary people. If I don’t see the report, I cannot react to it in abstract. Send me the report if you want our reaction,” he said.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that investigations were ongoing into the Paris Club scam.

He, however, said he did not know the specifics of the investigations.

“I can only confirm that there are investigations but I don’t have details,” Uwujaren said.
