Politics / Re: Driver’s Death In LASTMA Custody Stirs Controversy by isleman(m): 10:09am On Sep 05, 2013
Honestly, its painful. But if we really want justice for the dead, we shouldn't be lazy to investigate and quick to assume and conclude just from where we sit. I think more people need to be arrested and questioned especially the IPO. lets look the other way. it was said in the report that he was eating at a nearby canteen when he was told his vehicle is being towed. why hasn't anybody suspected the food he ate last? in autopsies, the last food the deceased ate is a vital clue.

While i strongly wish and ask for the LASTMA excesses be curbed, it still believe in fair hearing and justice. if he didn't park his vehicle wrongly, it wont be towed and once those guys get the towing vehicle out for a purpose, the vehicle must be towed and reported. definitely the owner of the vehicle will come out in the process but its not enough NOT to have the vehicle towed.

Everyone concerned should insist on autopsy. Autopsy can still be carried out on a decomposed body. It may only take advanced technology. the hair and many un-decomposed parts of the body can give evidence of cause of death.

Family / Re: Parents: How Do You Identify A Child's Talent? by isleman(m): 9:39am On May 29, 2013
as a fact, we need to differentiate talent from career. in my own definition, what you love to do may be your career and what you do without supervision and do very well is your talent.

as a kid, loved to draw. i could draw easily and impress everyone around with my drawings. I've been drawing since i could hold a pencil. everyone around me quickly concluded i will be an artist. As time went on, i preferred sciences. even though i still loved drawing but is been decades since i last drew aline. today, what i do easily and love doing even in my sleep is programming. i can program for free. i think i developed a career there since i had to go to school to learn programming. it wasn't born with me and there was no computer while i was growing up.

One very confusing part is when a child has multiple talents. its very difficult to help such child as they are good at everything.

Talent as said is what you can do easily even in your sleep and do better than your peers with nobody teaching you.

My final advise is that, career earns you a pay, talent earns you a dream. follow your talent. i love my career and never regret it but it only earns me a salary. perhaps my talent could have taken me to stardom. nevertheless, which every path you follow, strive to be the best among the rest. it still gets you to the apex at the end. (i used to rap too but i hate showbiz)
Religion / Re: Femi Aribisala: Every Pastor Who Collects Tithes Is A Thief by isleman(m): 10:56am On May 07, 2013
I have said this before but many people don't read their bible> they only follow what the pastor says. Same is for Muslims. that is why one imam can easily brainwash them to kill for his personal reason deceiving them they are killing for Islam.

Not that i read the bible very well either but the little i read, i must understand the message. Cant remember anywhere Jesus paid tithes. He only paid tax and advised His followers to do same saying.."give what belong to Cesar to Cesar". The bible says..."with Jesus, old things are passed away". That also include tithes as it is old testament.

It is good to give to the house of good as offering for several use to propagate the gospel but tithes...??
Politics / GEJ The Best Loved President Of Nigeria (questions) by isleman(m): 11:28am On May 02, 2013
I got this link on my facebbok which says PRESIDENT JONATHAN WILL BE THE BEST LOVED PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA EVER so i felt i should read it. It turned out to be a sponsored page GEJITES. I have no problems with that as every political office holders may need to sponsor groups to propagate his names and deeds. That is part of politics anyway.

http://gejites.com/new/president-jonathan-will-be-the-best-loved-president-in-nigeria-ever/

Going through article, i realize it ridicules the president even more as the sponsors lack content on the area the president should be defended or promoted. They tried to raise points which the President has achieved but i consider many to be no achievements or score points at all. Hence i have these questions for them as i know they are here.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been recording unique achievements.

1. President Goodluck Jonathan became the first Nigerian President to be WARNED PUBLICLY not to contest for elections on account of ethno-regional selfish interest, AND PROMISED MAYHEM and GRIDLOCK if he does. - is that an achievement?

2. First President to experience over 50 UNWARRANTED, UNPRECEDENTED BOMBINGS of CHURCHES, PRIMARY SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES, DRINKING PARLOURS, MATCH VIEWING CENTERS in less than 365 days after his swearing-in.- is that an achievement?

3. First President/Head of State from the ENTIRE SOUTHERN NIGERIA, who is neither a NORTHERNER nor an EX-MILITARY man. - so? that is why we are where we are now.

4. First SOCIAL MEDIA ERA President/ Head of State - can he log in by himself?

5. First President/ Head of State to experience the malicious death of INNOCENT, HARMLESS, UNARMED Youth Corpers serving their fatherland. - is that an achievement?

6. First President/ Head of State to evacuate Nigerians from trouble spots overseas by airlifting thousands of stranded citizens back home. - i score that one. That is what is expected from external affairs anyway.

7. First President/ Head of State under whose tenure, MULTI PARTY DEMOCRACY blossomed most: 6 different political parties have governors in Nigeria: LP, ACN, PDP, APGA, ANPP, CPC (Please note: all court orders overturned in favour of opposition parties were all obeyed: Osun, Ekiti, etc) - parties now aware of PDP manipulations. Overturned governors where PDP

8. First President/ Head of State to sign into law the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT - you mean the manipulated version.

9. First President/ Head of State to EFFECTIVELY outlaw toll-collecting illegal police checkpoints in Nigeria - i think the new IGP removed police checkpoints as the initial IGP under GEJ did not removed them. so the kudos goes to the IGP instead.

10. First President/ Head of State to introduce a national tax policy to create a self-sufficient economy that could bring development to the people. - too cumbersome. details please.

11. First president to pay attention to our International and local Airports – Kano airport upgraded after 57 years, other airports upgrades in progress. - okay! but he promised international airport in all states during his campaign.

12. Kaduna Refinery rehabilitated after 15 years - we still import fuel

13. The first President to summon the courage to unbundle Electricity distribution after 52 years, power supply more than doubled after almost 100 years after amalgamation (met power supply at about 2,200 mw, now 4,237 mw) States Begin Electricity Distribution - it had been in the pipeline all the way. Anyway, kudos he continued

14. First President to address the bad state of the Benin-Ore road which was rehabilitated after 20 years. - is it in good shape now? i've not been there. i need confirmation here please.

15. First president to rejuvenate our comatose Railways back to life after 20 years of lull in the sector, Colonial laws under review, States and Private investors welcome in the railways sector. nice one, but they are still choo-choo train!

16. First to introduce 35% female appointments in government positions. what else do you expect? and in what way have we benefited

17. First in decades to reduce salaries of public servants and examine the proliferation of different salary structures in the public service in the federation - haven't heard he has reduced on his cost of meals per day or reduced salaries of senators

18. First to deliver on Nine New Varsities, to accommodate, the growing number of admission candidates/population - kudos

19. First to promise Almajiri school, promise kept - kudos. he had even built some.

20. First to follow due process/rule of law in government conduct - including changing UNILAG to MAULAG?

21. First president to be thought of, by the average Nigerian, as his/her COUNCILLOR, LGA CHAIRMAN, ASSEMBLYMAN, GOVERNOR, REP OR SENATOR and CHIEF JUSTICE in one fell swoop, not minding the fact that everyone has his/her job cut out in a democracy as this is not a MILITARY DICTATORSHIP- that the buck does not stop at his desk in matters involving states, LGAs and the Judiciary or Legislature; that their jobs are complementary and they are allocated funds every month from FAAC, not to ‘chop’, but to work! - the way average Nigerian thinks. He should deliver and live with it or leave the place

22.PIB - what about it?

23.FIGHTING FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS - is that an achievement?

24.PROSECUTION OF FUEL SUBSIDY THIEVES - [/]has he? [/i]

25.FIGHT AGAINST BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION - evidence please!

26.FIRST FEMALE CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA - so?

27.SUSTENANCE OF AMNESTY PROGRAMME - that made the mockery of the nation. Amnesty to criminals

28.PERMANENTLY FLOW OF PETROLUEM PRODUCTS EVER IN NIGERIA - wasn't shell complaining few months ago for pipeline vandalism? wants there queues at filling station in the last quarter of last year?

29.INCREASE OF OUR DAILY OIL PRODUCTION OUTPUT TO THE HIGEST EVER - that has been happening in previous government too, government to come will surpass his

30.PROMISE TO REVIEW IMMUNITY LAWS -is that an achievement?

31.ENTRY OF IMPORTED GOODS INTO NIGERIA IN 48 HOURS - is that an achievement?

I want to congratulate the poster for the wisdom and knowledge and for reaching the stage of self discovery. A stage of self discovery is a stage in life when you discover who you are, what you are and your purpose in life. it is a stage when you can clearly define right from wrong, good from bad without fair or prejudice in order to feed you own common sense and be true to yourself. unfortunately, this stage has nothing to do with age. i don't know your age but i congratulate you again for reaching that stage in life.

many don't reach that stage at all and they die as fools. i congratulate you again from being able to separate facts from fiction.

to buttress your point. i have an English name too which makes people not know who i am or where am from. Africans are usually identified by their names, language and culture. if your name doesn't quickly identify you. its a problem. you wouldn't know how it feels if you bare a native name.

Same for Christians too. their is nothing like christian name or biblical name. all names in the bible are either Hebrew or Jewish. It is pointless naming your child an Hebrew name when you can name them the interpreted version in your native language. For example, ISSAC is a Hebrew name while it means 'promise child'. Why name a child Issac when you can simply name them promise or promise child in your native language which is the actual meaning?

This is where African are losing it. if we can open up our minds and eyes and remove the sentiments and hypocrisy. Africans will move forward. they've played with our minds enough, lets rediscover ourselves.

Its a pity but the real question is are they employable? I was a member of a team that interviewed some set of graduates a year ago and a graduate was telling she is from Abeokuta state. She didn't even know she was wrong because she said it over again severally. Out of about 200 applications i went through only 42 could write a sound C.V and i could only recommend 12 satisfactorily. it was an easy interview for me as they failed woefully.

Politics / Re: When Did Tribalism Started In Nigeria And What Is Responsible For It? by isleman(m): 4:13pm On Nov 15, 2012
Obinoscopy: Tribalism started the moment our selfish politicians realised they couldn't win central power. They now resorted to divide and rule politics. They lacked the confidence of winning any vote or popularity beyond their village or tribe. Thus they felt sowing the seed of tribalism among the citizens will increase the chances of a split-up thereby givng them an opportunity to rule their own tribe.

That makes a lot of sense. But why haven't we been able to separate ourselves from the politicians of political class who led us into these? why are we following suite?
Politics / When Did Tribalism Started In Nigeria And What Is Responsible For It? by isleman(m): 12:14pm On Nov 15, 2012
Growing up as a kid in Lagos in late 70s and early 80s, i only know there is one country called Nigeria. I know there are tribes mainly Hausa, Igbo, yoruba and other ones. My next door neighbor is a Hausa family. We attended the same primary school in V.I(ADRAO) with their kids. Who ever gets set first in the morning takes the kids to school. My dad being a business man usually goes out early in the morning so we try to catch up with him to take us to school. My Hausa neighbors with 3 girls and a boy(ABU) knows this and try to catch up with us too and we all go to school together happily in my dad's car with my siblings as well. Any day my dad is not around or not going out early. then, its the hausa mans turn to take us to school. All we have to do is to wait for him to finish all his prayers. We never knew any tribal or religious boundary as kids.

Coming back from school, we assist one another with our homework and after which we the boys depart to play football with other neighbors who comprise of Ijaws, ibgos and other yorubas while we live the girls to watch T.V either in our apartment or the Hausa's apartment.

On Saturdays, its the turn of our Igbo neighbour turn (Mama Adobi)to host us because they have a video player and lots movies we could watch. In those days, having video was special and the igbo man being an electronic dealer didn't have problem having one.

On Sundays is our turn, the Yorubas. My mum is great cook and other women in the house admits. We cook our Sunday delicacy and after church, neighbors and other friends starts trooping in for happy Sunday feasting. Things were very easy and the country was good then. Then the families in the house gather in our apartment. while the men gist business and politics, the women gist women talks and we the kids play with our toys or play other games. NTA doesn't help kids on a Sunday afternoon those days, unless you want to watch Sunday live show with Livi Ajounuma (of blessed memory). Salah days, for sure we know who is hosting and Christmas period then is a good reason to be alive. we share lots of fun together within the building and to other neighbors on the street.

It was so much fun those days that life couldn't be any better. No fear for anything, there was security, no robbery or heart-breaking crime stories. We practiced the same routine week in - week out and it was fun. I never knew any hardship nor was there any tribal or religious fears or differences.

This was very well after the civil war, did we not know there was a civil war in Nigeria? that didn't corrupt our feelings toward one another, we lived together as one happy family and one Nigeria irrespective of our tribal and religious differences.

My question now is, where did that tribalism creep in that today we keep pointing fingers at one another as if we are new to each other. Civil war (Biafra) stories everywhere as if it happened yesterday. Is this tribalism a problem of the newer generation because it wasn't there or visible in my own time as a kid. Has some people been mis-informed about some stories? has some people been brain-washed? or are people losing memories? what is responsible for this Huge menace called tribalism. Our lack of tolerance for one anther's religion is based on tribal differences. Is it that the newer generation never knew when Nigeria was good and never tasted a sweet Nigeria and therefore do not know what it means to be a Nigerian? is it the fault of a tribalistic parent?

Please educate me here. Am saddened when i hear some younger fellas talk tribalism based on civil war which they know nothing about and continuously spread the virus thereby poisoning pure minds. i still believe in Nigeria because i have experience the true Nigeria before and i believe we can bring back those days if only we can identify where we got it wrong and make corrections.

Am a yoruba man married an Igbo woman becasue of my belief in Nigeria and i wont go back on my dreams. Please, lets discuss it, when did tribalism start and what is responsible for it?

Moderator can only help by putting it on a front page. Thank you all for your meaningful contribution in advance. This is all for the sake of our failing country Nigeria.

Foreign Affairs / America May Break Soon by isleman(m): 9:42am On Nov 15, 2012
Petitions signed by hundreds of thousands of Americans seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the union have now been filed for all 50 states on the White House website.

The secession petition push began last week on the site's We The People section after a Slidell, La., man filed a petition on Nov. 7 to allow Louisiana to secede. Residents from other states followed suit.

As of Wednesday afternoon, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas—all states that voted for former Gov. Mitt Romney—as well as Florida each had accumulated more than 25,000 signatures, the threshold needed to trigger an official response from the Obama administration. Collectively, the secession petitions now have more than 700,000 digital signatures.

Texas is in the lead with more than 99,000, but Gov. Rick Perry said on Tuesday that he does not support secession.

"Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it," a statement from the governor's office read. "But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government."

Meanwhile, residents of Austin, Texas' stubbornly liberal stronghold, have petitioned the White House to allow the city to "withdraw from the state of Texas [and] remain part of the United States."

Of course, the petitions are little more than symbolic—and nothing new. Similar petitions were filed after the 2004 and 2008 elections. And at least one petition filed on the site asks that the president sign an executive order to strip U.S. citizenship from anyone who signed a petition to secede and requests that they are "peacefully deported."

Secession, though, is not the only thing people are petitioning the White House for. Included among the 140 petitions currently displayed on the site: two seeking federal legalization of marijuana, one asking for the halt of U.S. drone strikes and one demanding a recount of the election.

Is this an indication that GEJ is no longer secured? does that mean enemies are closing down on or containing GEJ? If Mr. President himself doesn't feel secured in the federal capital, what is the fate of many other Nigerians? i beg to be corrected if wrong.

ballabriggs: Another Government propaganda! 378 Docs for 16 million Lagosians- with a high population growth rate. Any government that does not value the health of its nation is a failed government- that is what development is all about. The Docs have only asked for the basics to keep them going. They're not asking to be paid what their counterparts earn earn in Europe- that would be unreasonable. It's a very myopic decision on the part of the government. You would even spend more at the end of the day as the health condition worsens. But do they care, they come to the UK for NHS treatment where the Doctors are better remunerated leaving our own Docs to rot. I don't wanna see Docs taking bribes in Hospitals to alter health reports, it means something is wrong with their remuneration. It is a shame on Nigeria. How do you develop with hungry Doctors? Any development plan without taking this into consideration is a failed plan.

Please get your calculations right. we don't all go to government hospital. the last time i was there was 1999. so minus me from your 16million figure. What we are saying is strike is NOT the answer. Strike action is abused. Doctors should value their profession. They shouldn't use human lives as a means of bargaining. are the police as catered for as the doctors? why hasn't the police ever gone on strike? such laws that prevent police from going on strike should prevent doctors too.

Politics / Should Cultism And Cocain Be Legalized? by isleman(m): 3:36pm On Mar 07, 2012
Many activities we consider negative are practiced by more people than those not practicing it. Many have scolded the governance of Lagos State under the administration of former Governor Bola Tinubu up till Fashola for encouraging and endorsing toutism.

I remember vividly during the days of Bola Tinubu when we asked by the press why he allowed and encouraged toutism as against his predecessor (Marwa). he (Bola Tinubu) replied. "Which is better, having thieves keep you awake and robbing you every night and giving you sleepless night or recognize these boys and allow them operate in the open day light as area/agbero boys". Adding that as Agbero, they disturb the public transport operators which also have its own union, therefore both parties can deal and relate with each other without disturbing and sleep of Lagosians.

This is one of the reasons given why there is relative peace in Lagos. That is, most of these touts had been engaged under identified/recognized area father. The area father is tasked with the peace of the area. The area father engages the boys in extorting public transport drivers, pays the boys from there and as such Lagosians can have safe and sound sleep and live peacefully. They also name the collection of these area fathers "Team Lagos". Task with the peace and control of the area and would be responsible for any break down of law and order. The area fathers also work with police to quickly report any suspicious action before it gets out of hand. (perhaps Ogun state should emulate this)

I am not here to justify if this move is good or bad but it had actually brought relative peace and reduced robbery in Lagos.

The question now is this. Why cant we do same for Cultism at school and cocaine and other hard drugs.

Perhaps if cultism is legalized in schools, members would be known and anyone who joins may decide to leave if need be without and quarrel or attack on the person. All gangs would be known and any attack on any body would be on the neck of the Gang Lords.

Maybe Cocaine should be legalized so that we know people selling it and people taking it. Government should be involved so that price and use can be controlled. Taxes can also be draw from its trading.

The banning and denial of Government and people at large that Cocain and Indian Hemp is bad and should be avoided leads many sharp practices. The drug Lords make money huge enough to run government from government absence from the business. Organizations like OPEC should be formed to control and manage cocaine and Indian-hemp.

With this everybody will know what hard drugs are and the conditions to acquire or trade it. Adverts can also be on air for its use and warning on its side effect just like we have for alcohol and cigarettes.

My concern is the number of people taking Indian Hemp now is so alarming and i think the number of people taking it in Nigeria as a sample is more that people that don't take it and it is adversely affecting the way people react and behave in public. Very young boys now smoke Indian-hemp gladly and openly in public without remorse.

Its Just an Opinion. What do you think?
