The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has confirmed the second despatch of food and non-food items by its operations agency, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to Bayelsa State. In its latest update on the recent status of flood relief interventions to Bayelsa, the Ministry confirmed that ongoing airlifting of relief materials by the Nigerian AirForce which commenced on Tuesday 25th October 2022. Additional relief items delivered include; I. 1,000 pieces of mosquito nets; II. 600 cartons of bath soap; III. 2,500 pieces of guinea brocade; IV. 1,000 pieces of children's wear; V. 1,000 pieces women's wear; VI. 1,000 pieces of men's wear VII. 8,000 pieces of nylon mats. Food items; I. 1,000 bags (10kg) of rice II. 1,000 bags (10kg) of beans III. 1,000 bags (10kg) of maize IV. 75 bags (20kg) of iodized salt V. 150 cartons of seasoning cube VI. 75 kegs (20L) of Vegetable oil VII. 75 cartons of tin tomato. These are in addition to an earlier consignment delivered on October 8, 2022 which include the following; I. 400 bags of 10 kg rice II. 400 bags of 10kg maize III. 300 bags of 10kg garri IV. 50 kegs vegetable.oil V. 200 cartons of tin tomato VI. 200 cartons of indomie VII. 200 bundles of roofing sheets VIII. 200 bags of cement IX. 40 bags of 3" nails X. 50 sheets of zinc NEMA, through the South South zonal office, delivered assorted relief materials comprising food and non-food items for immediate distribution in Otegwe and Ibelebiri communities of Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa. Following heavy flooding of the East West Road linking to the State, the Nigerian Airforce intervened in airlifting operations of relief items from Benin Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport and the subsequent use of helicopters to move the items to the Helipad in Yenagoa, the State capital. NEMA has equally procured more relief items for a third intervention in less than a month to be delivered to the State as follows: A. 1,000 bags (10kg) of rice B. 1,000 bags (10kg) of beans C. 1,000 bags (10kg) of garri D. 300 bags (20kg) of iodized salt E.200 cartons of seasoning F.100 kegs (20L) of vegetable oil G. 1,000 pieces of foam mattresses H. 1,500 pieces of nylon mats I. 1,000 pieces of blankets J. 2,000 pieces of mosquito treated net K. 800 pieces of Guinea brocade L. 1,500 pieces of children's wear M. 500 pieces of wax prints. Despite heavy flooded routes along Kogi State and other locations on the way to Bayelsa State, delivery of the third consignment of relief items to Bayelsa state is in progress. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq had directed NEMA’s intervention team which is presently in the State to collaborate with the State Emergency Management Agency, the Nigerian Navy in Bayelsa State, NNS Pathfinder in Rivers State, Nigerian Red Cross and Local Volunteers to carry out an in-depth assessment of the damage by the flood, for further assistance by the Federal Government. Minister Umar Farouq again sympathizes with the Government and good people of Bayelsa State and assures the victims of Government’s support always.

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Thursday, accused the ruling party of planning to assassinate the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Frank in a statement in Abuja, said the attacks on Atiku’s rallies in Kaduna and Maiduguri lend credence to his allegation. He insisted that the plot is aimed at killing Atiku at a campaign rally and blame it on hoodlums just like former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, who was fatally shot from close range and killed during a campaign rally on July 8, 2022, two days before a parliamentary elections. He also said it was not a coincidence that attacks on Atiku’s rally and convoy took place in APC controlled states. “First it was in Kaduna and now it is Borno – the home state of the running mate to the Presidential candidate of the APC, Kashim Shettima. Where next? Why is APC after Atiku’s life? he queried. Frank who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, said the plot is meant to stop Atiku at all cost following his wide acceptance by the North and indeed the entire country as the first choice for president in 2023. He also also reminded Nigerians how Funso Williams who was the gubernatorial candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party was assassinated in Lagos while constesting against the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his Second Term reelection bid. He described the rebuttal by the police saying there was no attack on Atiku’s convoy as not only pedestrian and absurd but reeks of complicity on the part of the state in the dastardly act. On the one hand, they claimed there was no attack. On the other, they admitted that one “Danladi Musa Abbas, 32 years old, who attempted to disrupt the convoys along the airport road was arrested by the police inside a church after a hot chase in an attempt to escape. He is under the command’s custody with a stone which is an exhibit.” He added: “Why make arrest with a stone as an exhibit when you claimed there was no attack? He called on the National Peace Committee to call the APC to order and prevail on it to stop sponsoring pre-election political violence in the country especially those targeted at Atiku and his campaign rallies in line with the peace accord recently signed by party stakeholders. He also called on the Police and relevant security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the Kaduna and Maiduguri attacks and bring them to immediate justice. He called on Nigerians to hold the APC responsible should any harm befall Atiku and his supporters before, during and after the 2023 general elections. He urged leaders of the international community including the United States of America and United Kingdom to note the series of attacks against Atiku and his supporters and ensure that those responsible are sanctioned through diplomatic instruments to serve as a deterrence to orders. A PDP chieftain, Kazeem Tanimu has pointed out reasons why the PDP will win the 2023 Presidential elections, amidst G5 sensationalism. He applauded the Chairman of the Party, Sen. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu for his approach in leading the party. “Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has shown the most impeccable style of leadership since he took leadership of our great Party, PDP; and we all have to look through the ambience he brought to the party, a result of which a host of power brokers and critical stakeholders became more interested in the Party’s activities. “We can all see the sort of leadership he has brought to bear. His scorecards are obvious, from his days as President of the Senate in the Third Republic. His leadership has been evident at the various ambits of elections PDP has participated in, in the last couple of years. For instance, for PDP to secure victory in the recently held Osun guber, Ayu’ diplomatic negotiations amongst stakeholders, was the key.” Mr. Kazeem Tanimu who is also the Convener of “Atiku 100%” urged party stakeholders to look inward and position their energy towards winning the 2023 General Elections. A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and the founder of the “Atiku 100%”, Tanimu Kazeem has said the National chairman of the PDP, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu will lead the PDP to victory, come 2023. According to Kazeem, Sen. Ayu has impeccable and unimaginable pedigree that is capable of leading the PDP to victory. He said the position of National Chairman needs someone with the needed experience and capacity to take Nigerians from the pains caused by the APC-led administration. Kazeem stated that no other person has the capacity of leading the party to victory considering how knowledgeable Ayu is in term of experience, issues, capacity and ways of solving party challenges. “This is a wrong time to change our National Party Chairman, considering his impacts on the party since he was elected as the party National Chairman. All hell seem to be let lose in the past twenty fours in the political scene as the PDP and the APC, the two leading parties; in the run up to the 2023 Presidential election, have been engaged in fierce war of words. Dele Momodu, Strategic Communications Director of the PDP Presidential Campaign Management has on Wednesday, dared the ambition of Tinubu and Shettima who are the Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates of the ruling APC. This was as he told Shettima that the PDP is ahead and fully ready to rescue Nigeria from the APC. This was in reaction to the claims of Kashim Shetimma, the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC, that Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the PDP has not united his own party, the PDP in the build-up to the 2023 polls. In the statement released by Dele Momodu’s office and made available to the press, Dele Momodu said; “We have watched in utter incredulity and amazement the boldfaced speech made yesterday by the APC Vice Presidential candidate, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, at an event in Lagos. He alleged gleefully that the PDP Presidential candidate, H.E Atiku Abubakar (GCON) cannot unite Nigeria when ‘he has not united his own political party’. “It is our belief that Alhaji Shettima, in a moment of deliberate amnesia, must have tried to point fingers at the specks in another man's eyes while studiously ignoring the giant logs in his own eyes. The APC is in total disarray with prominent members of his party openly apologizing to Nigerians for the unmitigated disaster it has foisted on Nigeria since 2015. This is one of the reasons APC members have been migrating in droves to PDP. It took almost forever for APC to achieve the simple task of constituting its Presidential Campaign Council, due to the total lack of unity in their party. It is very obvious that APC has become completely rudderless and many self-respecting members are jumping ship and being recovered by PDP. “How can these APC candidates ever unite Nigerians when they've shown open disdain for the democratic and voting rights of certain ethnic groups within their domains? Everything about APC and its candidates have been shrouded in secrecy and they are just unable to tell Nigerians the truth about anything. How can Nigerians be expected to place their faith in such mysterious characters?” “Alhaji Shettima alleged that Atiku Abubakar cannot be trusted with the economy of Nigeria. No heresy could be worse than this. Nigerians would want to know what businesses the APC candidates have managed personally and successfully except living outlandishly on government booty and largesse. Atiku Abubakar started business as a teenager and served meritoriously as a government officer in the Customs where he assisted so many Igbo traders, according to available testimonies. In Atiku's private life, he remains one of the biggest employers of labour in Nigeria. He has brought jobs to Nigerians instead of shipping jobs out. “How can APC be expected to guarantee the safety of lives and properties when right under the watch of Alhaji Shettima as Governor of Borno State, Boko Haram became an intractable menace and Nigeria is yet to fully recover till this day?” he further added. “PDP is extremely proud of its antecedents and former Vice President ATIKU ABUBAKAR and Governor IFEANYICHUKWU OKOWA are fully ready to recover Nigeria from the hands of the most incompetent leaders in the history of Nigeria,” Dele Momodu said.

Following public inquiries, it has become imperative for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to update on the status of recent flood relief intervention to Bayelsa State. On 8th October 2022, the Agency through our South South zonal office delivered to Bayelsa State assorted relief materials comprising of food and non-food items for immediate distribution at communities affected by flood. The items were distributed directly to the affected persons in Otegwe and Ibelebiri communities of Ogbia Local Government Area of the State. The items distributed were: I. 400 bags of 10 kg rice II. 400 bags of 10kg maize III. 300 bags of 10kg garri IV. 50 kegs vegetable.oil V. 200 cartons of tin tomato VI. 200 cartons of indomie VII. 200 bundles of roofing sheets VIII. 200 bags of cement IX. 40 bags of 3"nails X. 50 pkts of zinc nails Furthermore, considering the devastating impacts of flood in the state, additional relief materials were approved for delivery to the state. This time around, road transportation had become difficult due to the heavy flooding of the East West Road linking to the state. Therefore, assistance of the Nigerian Airforce was obtained in the airlifting of relief items from Benin Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport and subsequent use of helicopters to move the items to the Helipad in Yenagoa, the state capital. The airlifting of the relief materials commenced on Tuesday 25th October 2022 and is continuing. So far, the additional relief items delivered are: I. 1,000 pieces of mosquito nets; II. 600 cartons of bath soap; III. 2,500 pieces of guinea brocade; IV. 1,000 pieces of children's wear; V. 1,000 pieces women's wear; VI. 1,000 pieces of men's wear VII. 8,000 pieces of nylon mats. In addition to the three (3) relief interventions approved and being delivered by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to Bayelsa State for distribution to flood affected persons, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of 12,000 metric tons of assorted food items from National Strategic Grains Reserve to be delivered to the 36 states and FCT for distribution to vulnerable persons. NEMA is also responsible for delivery of the assorted food items from the silos to the states. The items for Bayelsa State, which are also on the way to state are: I. 105 metric tons of maize II. 88.7 metric tons of sorghum III. 98.7 metric tons of garri. Unfortunately, trucks conveying some the additional second, third and special grains interventions of food and non-food items were stuck in Kogi State and other locations on the way to Bayelsa State due to the flooded conditions of the roads. Gladly, some of the vehicles have been removed with assistance from our stakeholders are presently moving to deliver the relief items to complement the efforts of the Bayelsa State Government in providing succour to the flood affected persons. NEMA intervention team is presently in the state and will work with the State Emergency Management Agency and other stakeholders to carry out detailed assessment of devastating impacts the flood for possible further assistance to the affected persons. In addition to the relief intervention, NEMA in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy through NNS Soroh in Bayelsa State and NNS Pathfinder in Rivers State, Nigerian Red Cross, Local Volunteers carried out evacuation of persons on the East -West Road from and to Bayelsa State. The Director General NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed appreciate the collaboration of the Nigerian Airforce, Nigerian Navy and other stakeholders that supported the Agency in our relief items in Bayelsa State and other States across the country. Moreover, the DG NEMA, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq sympathises with the Government and people of Bayelsa State as well as all that have been affected by the flood. He also conveyed assurances of the Federal Government’s continues support and assistance, in line with directives of the President to support the affected persons with necessary basic relief assistance. The DG NEMA commends the Bayelsa State Government for providing support to the flood affected persons. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has confirmed the distribution of relief items to 21 States affected by the floods. The Minister made this known at a briefing to keep the public abreast of response and interventions made so far by the Ministry and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on the flood situation across the country. Umar Farouq stated that distribution of food and non-food items to other States were already ongoing. “A total of 21 States have received relief materials so far. These States are Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Nassarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo , Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe. “While specialized teams are on ground, there are still some States and Local Governments that are inaccessible and hard to reach. To address this, we are working with the Military Disaster Response Units and other stakeholders with specialized skills and equipment to ensure that we use other means to reach hard-to-reach areas and people at risk. “Distribution to other States affected by floods in Nigeria is ongoing. The materials being distributed are emergency food items and non-food items including rice, maize, garri, vegetable oil, tin of tomatoes, seasoning and beans. She called on other stakeholders to join in efforts to assist affected flood victims. “We hope that other Ministries, Departments and Agencies such as Water Resources, Health, Works and Housing, Agriculture and Environment will join us in the next briefing with their own updates on operations to resolve this emergency we are facing. I also implore Government at all levels, especially State and Local Governments, to share information with us and also play their role in the response, in line with the National Flood Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan. “I commend local communities for their resilience. We received a report that in 144 LGAs, local communities worked together to provide the first response to their families and neighbors. The Search and Rescue Team, which is responsible for evacuating people and providing life-saving first aid and medical support and referrals to hospitals has so far been able to reach 199 Local Government areas within 25 States. “These operations are ongoing and I urge communities at risk to adhere to warnings and instructions issued by these teams as they work to protect and save lives. “We express our sincere appreciation to his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari for his support and timely special intervention in addressing the flood intervention.” “A high-level delegation will visit some States next week to follow up on operations and to identify any new challenges and gaps in the operations that need to be addressed. This will enable Government to access the situation on ground and provide and meet with victims and families that have been affected.” As 24th October 2022; 3,219,780 persons were reportedly affected by floods in 2022. 1,427,370 persons have been internally displaced, approximately 2,776 persons were injured, approximately 612 people lost their lives, 181,600 houses were partially damaged and another 123,807 houses totally damaged. 176,852 hectares of farmlands were partially damaged while 392,399 hectares of farmlands have been totally damaged.

Minister Umar Farouq was one of the forty-four awardees of the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS). President Buhari stated that the award is in recognition of those who excelled and distinguished themselves in service to humanity. “This award is borne out of empirical evidence of your performance in various sectors of the economy. The enumeration committee of the Federal Government homegrown feeding programme for public primary schools says it has uncovered 349 ghost schools in Nasarawa State benefiting from the scheme. The money thus earmarked for the ghost schools has been ending up in private pockets, according to the committee head and adviser to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mallam Abdullahi Usman. Usman told Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia yesterday that sequel to the discovery the state was almost delisted as one of the beneficiaries of the programme. But the state programme officer and the consultant were suspended and replaced. “After due process of vetting, the committee discovered that 349 of such schools were actually ghost schools, with some officials pocketing the money meant for feeding these schools,” he said. He said top ministry officials in Abuja recommended the removal of Nasarawa State from the scheme but the decision was rejected to avoid undue punishment of innocent children that would benefit from the scheme. One thousand, two hundred and three public primary schools were originally captured as beneficiaries in the state. He thanked all the relevant stakeholders including the National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Bureau for Statistics (NBS), the state Ministry of Education, amongst others, for making the work of the committee a success in Nasarawa State. He particularly applauded the governor for his cooperation and support while also recognising the contribution of the state focal person, Mr Imran Usman Jibrin, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Humanitarian Services. Bruce DelValle, the founding partner at DelValle Law PLLC, Washington D.C, has called for a restructuring of the country with a new constitution, just as he thinks that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, of all candidates is the best candidate for the 2023 presidential election from the perspective of restructuring of the country with a blueprint on how to achieve it. Mr DelValle spoke at the National Support Group (NSG) Independence Day Lecture Series and launch of a book, "THE LEGEND: ATIKU, OYOYO...NEXT TO LEAD" , written by Comrade Seye Akanmu-Bode, the Convener of the Group in honour of the former Vice President. It was a zoom session that attracted some Nigerians who wanted to get perspectives on the theme of the lecture, "The Changing Values of Local Government: beyond the dichotomy of centralisation and decentralisation in Nigeria's Federalism ". The moderator opened the event with a synopsis of the issues plaguing local self government in Nigeria, while the convener, Comrade Akanmu-Bode in his welcome address comparatively analysed Germany's federal system where though, the States control the local governments and manage educational policies and also hold primary responsibility for public security and the administration of justice, but the local governments are given a wide range of functions with efficiency in the provision of utilities ( electricity, gas and water), operate the hospitals and public recreation facilities and administer youth and social assistance programs. In Nigeria, local governments can't even perform the simplest task assigned to them by the constitution as they suffer from encroachment from the states in their assigned fields. Mr DelValle kick started the discussion by asking Nigerians to have a "common purpose" on the direction of the country and said that "centralised holding of the country can't hold" and advocated for a "locally base police". He also made a critique of the 1976 Local Government reforms which he said was not essentially to grant autonomy to the LG but to take powers away from the traditional rulers! To Mr DelValle, the restructuring of the country with a new constitution is the only feasible solution if Local governments are to achieve its core mission of enhancing democratic participation of the local people; liberty or autonomy; and efficiency. The second discussant was Dr Olubunmi Akande of department of Politics and International Relations , Lead City University, Ibadan, she differed with Mr DelValle on the issue of state police as she took us down memory lane of how the system was abused during the first republic by the respective regional governments. There was of course a convergence of thoughts that Local governments are indeed grossly inefficient in Nigeria, this according to her is traceable to the facts that when States were created, most of them weren't viable and to meet their obligations, they had to take over the taxing power and functions of the local governments and without revenue, nothing can be done. She called for a constitutional amendment that will really spell out the powers and functions of the local governments and protect them from encroachment by the States. It was indeed an exhilarating discussion with the participants commending the discussants for their insightful analyses. The climax of the event was the launch of the book, ATIKU Oyoyo,...Next to Lead, written by the convener of the NSG, Comrade Seye Akanmu-Bode. Only to find out today that actually this photo or the video was not even from Akwa Ibom, it was all the way from Cuba. "Now this is by far the largest gathering of quote and unquote, the Obidients. "So I was fooled. These are the kind of things that discredits the movement. You guys did a wonderful job. You got enough people. There were thousands of people, between one thousand and two thousand, but to come and deliver this kind of fake photograph, making people believe that this is from Nigeria while it is from Cuba. It does your movement so much harm. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has stated that the nation needs to put in more efforts towards addressing the menace of drug and substance abuse among youths in the country and the menace should not be left to government, individuals and rehabs alone to tackle but should be a collective responsibility with everyone playing their roles. She made the statement on Thursday during an event on Awareness Campaign Against Drug and Substance Abuse/ Illicit Trafficking held on the 29th September, 2022 in Abuja. Farouq represented by the Deputy Director Social Development of the Ministry, Mr Chogudo Sule Aliyu; said the government of the day is very much concerned about the growing number of controlled substance abusers in the country. The priority is advocacy and we have to tell our people and youth that abusing drugs is risky, not good and it is illegal. She called on stakeholders for urgent intervention. This incident which is the latest of the many witnessed has once again made our plea a genuine one, that Mr Governor's desire to see a Lagos of global excellence will never materialize if the union managing the affairs of the transport system is not regularized. Scores of our members were injured and presently hospitalized and dozens of our vehicles vandalized because the society has not come to the point of realization that this thuggery that has no place in global manifestation must be pushed into extinction. Mr Babajide Sanwoolu has made a giant statement in the transportation sector, breaking national records and transisting into global values with the arrival of the "mono rail trains" which would redefine the concept of transportation and help make the lives of the citizens better, yet the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria chooses the next day of such an earth shaking event to unleash their foolishness. This incident has further vindicated the Lagos state government decision to position the management of the parks and garages under a unitary leadership system that has curbed the excesses of ruffians who at every opportunity disrupt the peace and tranquility a state like Lagos is known for. Once again, as we have always advocated, that there is no where in the world where individuals are greater than the government, once it was NURTW now it is RTEAN. Who knows what next if this budding beast isn't curtailed and maimed? The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has on Monday reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s total commitment to improving the quality of life of Person with Disabilities being the most vulnerable citizens in Nigeria. The Minister stated this at the inaugural meeting of the Nigeria Partnership for Disability Inclusive Development, (NIPDID) organised by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in Abuja. The Minister through her Representative, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sani- Gwarzo, mni, NPOM; said in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment of lifting 100million Nigerians out of poverty, the President has assented to the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 and the establishment of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in 2022, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. She noted that "the primary mandate of the Commission is to coordinate and implement programmes and projects geared towards the improvement of the quality of life of the PWDs in Nigeria. The Ministry is working towards empowering the Commission to regulate and enforce the implementation of the Act including physical access to buildings and making it easy to people with Disabilities." “We will continue to respect and honour our commitment to all International Treaties and committed to signing the African Protocol on Disability before the end of the year” she said. As mark of the commitment of the country, the Minister approved 10% affirmation for disability inclusion in all the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP). Farouq called on all National and International Bi-lateral and Multi-lateral agencies in Nigeria to scale up intervention on disability to 10% of their total commitment to Nigeria to transform the Lifes of the PWDs. She said approval has been given for the take-off of the Nigeria Partnership for Disability Inclusive Development and the establishment of the Development Partnership and Programmes Unit at the Commission to operate directly under the Office of the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Commission. The Minister expressed appreciation to all the development partners in providing both technical and financial support to the Commission in different ramifications such as the SightSavers, the World Bank, Save the Children International, CBM and Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office of the British High Commission through the ROLAC project. Earlier, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, James Lalu; thanked the Ministry and all stakeholders for the establishment of the Disability Act as well as the establishment of the NCPWD. He said the success of the Commission in the past two years of its existence is credited to the support provided by all stakeholders. Lalu said the formation of the NIPDID is a beautiful initiative and the Commission is looking forward to a strong team that will develop ideas, programmes and implement them to improve to the quality of life of the PWDs in Nigeria. He commended the Minister for approving the 10% affirmation for disability inclusion in all National Social Investment Progeammes and urged all development partners to commit 10% of their total interventions to Nigeria to support PWds. This he said will help to expand services and commitment to change the quality of life of PWDs in the country. Umar Farouq made the call when the Ministry hosted a Side Event at the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York at the weekend themed; 'STRENGTHENING RESILIENCE AND SUSTAINING DEVELOPMENT: A Humanitarian Approach to Leaving No One Behind.' In her opening remarks, the minister noted that the rise in hunger, poverty, insecurity and disasters has impeded humanitarian and development efforts globally. She called for concerted efforts to tackle the myriad of challenges confronting humankind to save generations unborn. “The world today is facing complex humanitarian crises. Increasing poverty, rising inflation, high energy and food prices; unemployment and violent extremism continue to impede humanitarian and development efforts. In 2022, geo-political conflicts, coupled with climate change have led to dramatic rise of food insecurity in several parts of the world, including Nigeria. “In these challenging times, we are reminded, once more, of the important role we play as leaders, in charting the way out of these turbulent times to a future that promotes peace, stability and progress, in order to create a more resilient society that guarantees the safety and prosperity for all and future generations. At this year’s General Assembly, we have been guided in our discussions by the theme: “A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges”. The President however harped on the need to implement all the policies and frameworks within a collaborative and tenured plan to help Federal Government reduce conflict and enhance efforts on Humanitarian Coordination and integration of the National Humanitarian Development Peace Framework. “The National Humanitarian Development Peace Framework is a multi-track, multi-agency and multi-stakeholder approach that supports the growth of local capacities for post conflict or post disaster reconstruction activities. This is achieved through equitable policy making and investment aimed at building resilience and guaranteeing better response mechanisms to man-made or environmental catastrophes in Nigeria. “Nigeria is prioritizing the development of a digitized and integrated management information system to address operational gaps across agencies and programmes. The institutionalization of automated processes and procedures through the coordination framework will facilitate real time monitoring while ascertaining frequent performance reporting.” The President called on stakeholders to actively engage in leveraging the existing coordination Frameworks and the National Humanitarian Development Peace plan to activate more private sector participation, enable the consolidation of partnerships and accelerate the collaborations required to realize a triple nexus approach to leaving no one behind.

By Reno Omokri The Governor of Rivers state, and an esteemed member of our party, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike addressed the press on current issues within our party, and in the encounter he made some utterances which are fallacious. I believe he did not lie. It may just be a case that, because of the task of running a very successful state, like Rivers, his memory may have failed him. So I have written the below to refresh his memory. 1. The Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, never promised to resign if a Northern Presidential candidate is elected. Rather, he said openly and on video that he would resign IF the PDP asked him to. And since the PDP NEC passed a vote of confidence in him, why should he resign? 2. The Peoples Democratic Party did not jettison zoning in favour of the North. Zoning was jettisoned in favour of the South. The last PDP President is from the South. By virtue of the party’s Constitution and tradition, the next President should come from the North. 3. If Wike has evidence that the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, is not a trustworthy character, he should provide such to the police and other law enforcement agencies. 4. The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential primaries were not flawed. They were transparent and watched live on TV by Nigerians. A winner emerged. Many also did not win. Saraki, Tambuwal, Mohammed, Hayatudeen, Dele Momodu, Anyim, Fayose, Emmanuel, Momodu and others have not complained of any untoward happenings. 5. If the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, convened any illegal meetings in the house of retired generals, then proof of that should be tendered by the one making the allegations. By the way, who should the PDP Chairman meet? APC members, like someone we know? 6. Waziri Atiku could not have promised Governor Wike that Senator Ayu would resign, because he has no power to make Senator Ayu (who was largely brought in by Governor Wike) resign. 7. How can a man who almost single handedly installed the last two PDP chairmen and many members of the NEC call the same party “arrogant”? If an engineer builds a house and calls it ugly, what is he invariably saying about himself? 8. Wike says Waziri Atiku is surrounding himself with people without much political value, why is he resisting joining the PCC. We need Wike because he obviously has much political value. 9. The Peoples Democratic Party has a NEC. The NEC can discipline any member according to the Constitution of the party. 10. Every member of the party is a vital picture, but no member is the big picture. 11. The PDP Constitution should determine the fate of the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

Humanitarian Ministry inaugurates Committee to host Nigeria International Humanitarian Summit The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has inaugurated a Planning committee charged with the responsibility of ensuring the successful hosting of the forthcoming Nigeria International Humanitarian Summit in Abuja; a Thursday statement from the Ministry said. Represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs Alhaji Ali Grema, the Minister commended the prompt response to the notice of the meeting and attendance despite the short notice. According to the Minister, "The Summit is expected to showcase the tremendous achievements of this Administration in the Humanitarian Sector and would also have in attendance members of the Federal Executive Council, Top Government Functionaries, Distinguished Nigerians and other Humanitarian Actors both local and international that are operating in Nigeria. “Every Department and Agency must participate and avail themselves in the planning and execution of this Summit". She disclosed that the Consultant Brevity Anderson has already achieved a milestone in preparation to successful hosting of the Summit. The Minister urged the committee to ensure that a week before the programme, all issues on preparation are concluded. In order to have a successful Summit the Planning Research and Statistics Department will be coordinating the hosting of the Summit. The committee will be chaired by the Director Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Peter Nwakpa, who will report to the Permanent Secretary at the end of every meeting and to develop a checklist to track every line of activity on the agenda. The following Subcommittees were also approved to support the execution of the programme, as follows: Secretariat, Venue, Logistics, Protocol and Security, Publicity, Health, Feeding and Refreshment. The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Peter Nwakpa promised to work, assiduously to ensure a successful hosting of the event and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the committee.

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, called on leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to collaborate with the newly named Presidential Campaign Council of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to ensure victory. Frank who made this call in a statement in Abuja, congratulated all members of the Campaign Council and commended Atiku and the national leadership of the PDP for selecting men of proven integrity into the council. He noted that the Chairman and Director General of the Council, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal have the requisite capacity to lead the party to victory. He said that the track records of Emmanuel as a former banker and now Governor and Tambuwal as a lawyer, former House of Representatives’ Speaker and now second term Governor of Sokoto State have all it takes to lead the PDP to victory. He appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to forgive all offences and work for the realisation of winning the forthcoming presidential election and forming the next government. According to him, it is obvious that only the PDP can salvage the dwindling economic fortunes of the country following lack of focus and strategic thinking by the APC’s administration. Frank who is the Untied Liberation Movement for West Papau (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East insisted that Nigerians and looking to the PDP to deliver them from misrule, corruption and bad leadership engendered by the APC, saying, “PDP cannot afford to fail.” He noted that all other leaders that have been carefully selected for the rescue mission, have required experience, political gravitas and reach to help realise the objective of the council, which is to help the PDP win the presidency and other national and state political offices in 2023. He urged the Council to focus on issues-based campaign as well as make patriotism, love and peace of the country its watch word. He urged all aggrieved presidential aspirants of the party to join hands to achieve victory for the party, as a everybody stands to benefit when PDP assumes power. Frank said: “This is the time to put personal interest aside and work collectively for the success of the PDP at the polls. Even though there were many contestants during the party primary, only one candidate can emerge. “Now that we have our Presidential Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly candidates, the PDP must work as a united and cohesive entity necessary to win at the polls. “The hope of Nigerians to return the PDP to the saddle of governance in 2023 must not be dashed on the altar of personal animosity. PDP is one. PDP can only win if it remains united. History beckons! “Let’s not give room to the APC that is waiting to capitalize on the seeming squabbles and disagreements with the party, to perpetuate another rigged victory.”
