Agadinaagwuofe: The bolded are true but not always true. Some loan and debt collection has criminal angles to it depending how the loan was packaged to the debtor. Most commercial banks asks the debtor to sign post-dated cheques prior to granting them the loans and like a man begging his girlfriend to put only the cap during konji most of them will willingly sign and when they default, the bank throws in the post dated cheque and immediately it goes to clearing and comes back as null cheque that becomes criminal and police will be involved to pick the debtor and charge on criminal grounds. Again debtors can be charged on the grounds of abscondment which is a criminal offence if they fail to be showing up at their given address.
My point is, sometimes it's not because Nigerians don't know their right, it is partly because many Nigerians have bad loan culture and have sworn to be "chronic onigbese" that will not even pay even if his chi appears to him and tell him to go and pay. So when the birds learn how to fly without perching I am sure the hunter will adjust to shooting without missing. Emphasis should be let the debtor try and pay and people stop collecting loans they can't pay, as long as many Nigerians do not pay most of their debts loan disbursement plans will always have a way to side-step their constitutional rights.
I doubt the video is real because I have seen palm play denying that but again even if the guy decides to go the legal way I am sure there "might" be grounds he will lose out that's if it's commercial bank that's involved. This post reminds me of something. A security man when I work heard GTB gives loans after 6 months to salary account holders. He moved his salary account to GTB. After 6 months, he tried applying for a loan and was denied. Went to the bank to find out what happened and they told him he had an unpaid loan with Fidelity bank. He went to Fidelity, repaid the loan, collected letter of indebtedness, tried applying for the loan again and he still wasn't granted. He went back to GTB and they confirmed he has other unpaid loans with Carbon, Lcredit, Fairmoney and one other app I can't remember now. When I asked him why he was owing so much, he said he thought he can collect the money and get away with it since the worst they can do is send messages to people on his contact list. It's not like they can physically meet him to request for the loan. This guy is not alone, there are many others like him |

Roland17: Courts reviews NDA's and it's appropriateness and that is why people like Epstein are having their dark acts exposed. NDAs have very strict terms and if there is no balance of power between the parties, the court will strike it out. What is the state of the victim, age, cognition and was the use of force/ threat used etc. NDAs must be mutual and that is where the balance of power comes into play.
Also, in the US, I know for sure, certain States do not admit NDAs if it related to rape, sexual and domestic abuse. Infact, now, NDAs are illegal in the work place when it has to do with rape or any kind of sexual harassment/ assault case in the US. NDAs do not mean the victims can't report the crime. They can report the crime and allow the justice system take it's course without being primarily involved.
The example you used above is a good ground for the court to terminate the NDA because of the balance of power. Interesting. I don bookmark this. Learning truly never stops till the day we die |

Roland17: Debt collection is a civil matter, not criminal. Legally, even the Nigerian Police have no right to be involved in loan agreement issue between 2 parties because it is a civil matter that is adjudicated primarily by the court. The problem is, Nigerians don't know the law and how to protect their rights.
There is a process for loan collection as established by the law. There are due diligent steps that must be taken by creditors to recover their loan even before they approach the court. Palmpay infringed on a lot of that guy's rights with their unconstitutional actions. Also, no written agreement overrides a citizens constitutional human rights, absolutely none, it is universally accepted! This is why I say many Nigerian companies are taking advantage of people/ workers with ridiculous actions.
If this was the US, lawyers for don dey blow up this guy phone with calls and texts because this is an easy case! afrodoc2: There is nothing in fine or ugly print that can trump a citizen's constitutional rights. Lending someone money under the condition that he waives his rights is even illegal. Palmpay must pay. Dey don enter one chance. But I have read of cases where a powerful and rich man rapes a woman, pays her off and and makes her sign an agreement not to institute legal action in the future I just thought that something similar may have played out here. |

Roland17: What happened there is unconstitutional on so many grounds and no agreement or contract trumps the constitutional human right of a citizen… That’s in a sane country.
There is a reason, the government I think put out a legislation banning these guys from sending messages ladened with threats. There is an established system for creditors to collect loan and this isn’t one of them. You'll be surprised what palmpay has carefully hidden in fine print. Something along the lines of "You are waiving your rights to institute legal action against palmpay or any of its associates." I just wonder what they will do after arresting him. I don't think there's any law that prescribes jail term for a debtor. |

Most times, that's the case.

GloriousGbola: Our parents went to state schools. By the time it was our turn a lot of the state schools had deteriorated. Same is now happening in federal schools. All of this creates foundational challenges down the line when your pikin is competing for jobs with people with stronger foundations.
You can remember when osho and elrufai decided to test public school teachers. It is even worse now because for a lot of schools it is literally drop outs who are being hired.
In theory you could send your pikin to a lower cadre school then engage a good teacher for remote learning. Parent self is too far. I also went to a public school but public school is not even an option in Nigeria of today. I was actually referring to the massive price difference between the private schools. You know how some charge as low as 30k per term and others 400k or even higher. Some will tell you it's all packaging and they all teach the same thing. Others will say it's not. |

GloriousGbola: Someone shared this with me
The behavioral stuff is complete bullshit and written by a child. In this very lagos people live in egbeda and work in vi. Are they going to find equivalent paying jobs in vi? They also picked those places to reduce their rent.
Pick a school close to your home. Unfortunately schools are not uniform in quality. There is actually a state school within walking distance from my house. A school to apprentice pipline.
As for parking your car at home, it comes down to efficiency. I went to pc village on Friday via danfo. The journey was three to four hours in total. It would have been maybe one and a half if I had driven.
These ideas may work in other cities though. All this talk about three working days in kwara. Transport in kwara has always been easy and cheap at least from a lag perspective I've been struggling with this for God knows how long. Depending on who you ask(and I'm talking about actual teachers here) there seems to be no consensus as to whether more tuition equals better quality. Some say they all use the same syllabus and teach the same thing, others say the quality of teachers and attention to each pupil and detail is not the same. |

Conner44: Remember you’ve been driving around with a Toyota Corolla that does 6 kilometers per Liter for only heaven knows how long and thought it was the normal mpg for your type of vehicle. As a result your judgment concerning matters of mpg as it relates to fuel pricing will most likely be skewed.
As vehicles get newer so do their engine models and a steady increase in mpg is one of the main reasons this happens. That is why the mpg of your present corolla and a 2022 corolla can never be the same. There's one key part everyone seems to be missing. How he drives the car is extremely important. I'm able to go as high as 22mpg(9km/l) within the city on a V6 engine and 13mpg (5km/l) on the same vehicle depending on my mood and how I drive. If Omoapena has a heavy foot, his gas mileage will suffer irrespective of the fact that he drives a Corolla. I'll advice him to avoid abrupt acceleration or braking and to keep his RPM below 2500. If he's still getting the same 1litre per 6km then something is wrong with the car. |
