Politics › Re: Top 8 Popular National Lies That Won’t Die In Nigeria - By Farooq A. Kperogi by Jarus(m): 4:06pm On May 16, 2017 |
ppnye: 4. That Sokoto calls itself “born to rule.” At no point in history has Sokoto ever called itself “born to rule.” As I pointed out in my January 10, 2015 column titled “The Stubborn, Undying ‘Born to Rule’ Falsehood in Nigeria’s Political Discourse,” “Sokoto State’s official license-plate catchphrase from the beginning was and still is ‘Cibiyar daular usmaniyya,’ which is Hausa for the nucleus or the navel of the Usman Danfodio caliphate. The English version of the slogan has been rendered as ‘Seat of the Caliphate,’ which I think is a great idiomatic translation
Are you aware that " born to rule" was once on the vehicle licence plate of Sokoto state? When naija decried this they changed it, and you it is outright lie. Do you also know that River state slogan was once, " a dedication to God and man (?)" Some people are unteachable. Someone just corrected a myth and you are debunking his correction with same myth he debunked. There was never a plate like that anywhere in Nigeria. |

thinkative: they participated. it gives them an edge. it means both have played at least 3 games for their country in 2017. moses is yet to play for the eagles so far in 2017. he played just 2 games for the eagles in the whole of 2016. that's not enough. all this talk of achievement. Eric Bailly or betrand traore could win the Europa league at the end of the season, does that mean they deserve to win APOTY? Mario lemina and kwawdo asamoah could win a treble with juve by the end of the season...it doesn't mean they deserve to win APOTY. its all about your individual performance. moses has been brilliant this season, but aubameyang and mane have been better. Thank you. Most of these guys dont know all these things because they only watch Chelsea. |

lamarrj: If not for the double standard, but Mahrez won only the EPL, he beat Aubameyang and Mane. So why does Moses have to do more? Mahrez did not just win the league, he won PFA POTY. Moses did not even make PFA 11(which Mane did). Mahrez was league-winning Leicester's best player, Moses was not league-winning Chelsea's best pkayer. Only a Nigerian will compare Mane to Moses. |

Too many jokers here.
Victor Moses may not even make the Top 3. He will definitely not win it (based on performance this year to date). Aubameyang and Sadio Mane have done far better. |

LionDeLeo: At a press conference in Kano, the senior council official in charge of finance who is also the Walin Kano, Bashir Wali, told reporters that the emirate has only spent N3.4 billion since Mr. Sanusi emerged emir in June 2014.
Emirate, not a state.
Did they construct roads and build bridges? An indefensibly huge sum no doubt, but I understand he rebuilt the palace and also raised the pay of emirate workers. |
