My concern is, there are still many people who don’t believe there is coronavirus in Nigeria

Islam did not say you cannot die from pandemic.

Do you ever see Muslim scholars organizing miracles to say you will be protected from pandemic if you come to their mosque?

The Islamic belief is, you will be tested by health and sickness, wealth and poverty, loss of loved ones etc. It is your steadfastness, how you handle these vagaries of life that matter. It is not a matter of it is not your portion. No alfa that has the slightest understanding of Islam will say that.

That is the simple message.

By the way, I doubt it. Why most Hausa Muslims are not afraid of corona is the same reason they are hardly afraid to die. Their argument is usually, there is nothing to fear in corona because we will all die anyway, not because they believe Islam says they will not have corona.

Hausa Muslims, especially poor ones, are generally hardly afraid of death - whether from riot or corona. They hardly take life very seriously.

I fully agree we are not getting the testing right enough.

I was allowed to be tested only because I had a recent travel history to ravaged countries and took ill during my self-isolation. If I didn’t have a travel history, I agree I may not have been allowed to be tested no matter the symptoms.

Those countries are showing clear proof of testing, isolation, hospitalizations, and even deaths... Every inch of those nations is quite transparent with regards to new cases, recoveries, and disease progression...

All we do here is wake up to figures like it's a bloody election... Who and who are being tested??! What are the criteria for the testing across the states of the federation??! How many contacts have been traced, tested, isolated and hospitalized since February??!... How many states' isolation centers are in use??!... What is the pathophysiology of the pandemic across the nation??!.... How many symptomatic cases have been reported across the nation??!

If after 2 weeks of lock down in most parts of the nation especially Abuja and Lagos, how many manifested cases were isolated that would warrant further lock down??! If there are new cases, how did they get infected and how were the infections detected if less than 2000 are being tested in a population of millions??!...

You see, when nothing is transparent, why won't the average citizen make light of these things??!

More Nigerians have died of COVID 19 in Diaspora than Nigeria. As a mathematician the puzzle is difficult to solve and understand.
We have more population of Nigerians here in Nigeria and have recorded just 10 deaths so far, considering the poor medical facilities here.

How many Nigerians traveled to Europe? Those that traveled, how many of them mix with ordinary people on the street?

In Europe, you share train, bus, supermarkets etc with people almost irrespective of class. Easier to spread.

This is based on the annual national death rate of 11.6 per 1000 per annum as of 2019 when there was no global pandemic.

The total number of deaths attributed to Corona virus as of today (since 2 to 3 weeks ago) in Nigeria is about 7 to 8 or thereabouts.

So I find it laughable when Nigerians say that the authorities are attributing all deaths in Nigeria to Corona virus.

That is the standard reporting template globally.

They called it “confirmed cases” not “currently active cases”.

Oga, not everybody that arrived from abroad before airport closure has been tested. Some people will only be showing symptoms now.

And not everyone that had contact with those already positive has been tested.

I came into Nigeria on 14 March. I only got tested this week Monday.

If you are uneducated enough to know about immune system, or that many people have also been discharged in Italy, I don’t think that should be anyone’s fault.

There is something called percentage.

About 20% of the cases in Italy have recovered. In Nigeria, the rate of recovery is even lower - 18%.
