soldierAnt: UPDATE:

I've failed to monitor this post for sometime now and I was unaware of the amount of attention it was getting and that's the reason why I am only just replying.

Konga.com, to their credit, have actually rectified the whole laptop situation. They shipped a replacement out to me this week (after a two week struggle) and funded my Konga.com wallet with the balance.

I'm sorry to have raised so much alarm in the heat of the moment. I've actually continued to use them for many other purchases since then. I think they are a good service used with caution, something we really need in this country and should be encouraged.

Those are my honest two cents.
If you didnt raise alarm thru this popular medium they probably wont have sorted you out.

When just going, no special thought. But when blaring sirens, it sends fears of stray bullet or police/robbers shoot. Just two days ago on my way home from work at about 11pm, and I saw policemen blaring their sirens, I was barking on the driver of the public bus I was to please let us park and take cover, lest it was a shoot-out scene, especially since robbery and kidnapping cases have been on rise in our area recently

If u need a lecturer on the topic, I can be available to help do justice to it. Send me the topic and In Sha Allah be glad to contribute. Investment › Re: Should I Build In Lagos Or In My Home Town or buy Stocks with my N 11 million by Jarus(m):
Good job, man. I think we have similar orientation.

In my family too, it is the tradition to do countryhome first i.e build your first house in our town before thinking of any other place, even though we work in Lagos (our parents are at home). After the first house at home, you can then start elsewhere. This is despite the fact that we go home just twice or thrice a year (only the sallah visit is guaranteed) and we don't spend more than 4 days. But there is this sense of fulfilment that comes with having a countryhome. By God's grace, I'm close to rounding up mine too (https://www.nairaland.com/784501/building-house-kwara-state-journal/2.

Next plan after completing teh countryhome is city house (wherever you are working permanently, for most of us Lagos.

None of these however stops investing. You can put say 3m into further investments. It's not compulsory for you to finish the house at a stretch. You can do it over 2 years. You don't need to spend all your income on teh project.

It depends on a number of factors, but based on my own orientation/upbringing, if I were in your shoes, I would:

1, Put 4m back into further investments
2, Put 3m into your countryhome project immediately
3, Put 4m into short-term investments (e.g money market) and liquidate over 2 years, to continue your project at say 3 months interval or milestones e.g up to lintel, roofing, etc) . That way, you still make little money while continuing the project. Remember you're not living in your village, so no urgent need to rush.

As for Ajah land, that's very great. I stay in that side too (we have things in common) and a colleague just got 6m to acquire a plot in Badore (Ajah). Thankfully, your land will continue to appreciate. So you can come back to it later.

Politics › Re: Youths Protesting At Shell In Rumuobiakani, Port-Harcourt by Jarus(m): 7:59am On Jul 17, 2013
kodewrita: Who told you to go and get MSc from abroad? Did you apply officially and get rejected OR did you (in spite of the fact that you are supposedly an educated graduate) rely on rumour for information?

Also have you heard of PTDF Scholarships, Mobil Scholarships, Total Scholarships, Shell Scholarships, AGIP Scholarships ( all restricted to Niger Delta indigenes from Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa with the exception of PTDF which is national). And dont claim its gated exclusively for the powerful. Have you EVER applied? Most likely NO.
Sir, you have no excuse on that score.

Deal with your envy. Besides, Delta is also a Niger Delta area and they had Shell facilities too. Shell is not just the property of Port Harcourt people. Warri people, Bonny people and others deserve employment too.

This can only apply to unskilled jobs. I heard from a confirmed source (a lady who works in Shell) that local communities protect each Shell/Total/Eni location as if its their own. As such Rumuobiakani people cannot go and seek unskilled jobs in Shell RA which is in Rumuokwurushi and vice versa. Now, who is responsible for that? The IOCs or your squabbling communities?

Have your youth leaders ever approached any IOCs for this? or are they just content with earning money as manpower contractors for the few slots available by selling them to even non-indigenes? Long and short: Hold your youth Leaders responsible for this. . A neighbour who happens to be from Bonny was laughing at your protest. He mentioned the fact that youth leaders are the chief culprits even in his own area as they supposedly sell NLNG slots to non-indigenes for personal gain. Go and hold them responsible.

Please be informed that if Shell leaves, no other IOC will come in as most of the IOCs are actually selling.

Total sold 3 oil blocks a few months ago, Shell sold some too, AGIP has been quietly selling. Any sale now will result in the NPDC or local oil companies coming in.

And also please be informed that those people are going to pay top dollar to get Shell/Mobil/Total/Eni/Chevron assets and as such they will not be prepared to come in and recruit host community people for 60k to serve tea twice a day like the IOCs do. They will be there solely to recoup the billions of dollars they will have paid the IOCs. Go and ask the people in Warri what has happened to them now that NPDC, SEPLAT and other companies have taken over in warri. They are still protesting (even this week) that those companies are not recruiting and they have laid off lots of contractors. Ignore the warri-based internet warriors here who are pretending to be invincible. Ask the real ex-Shell, ex-Chevron contractors how they are surviving.

Besides if NNPC/NPDC come in, they will recruit based on Federal Character (The Majority tribes must all be represented and after then other communities ) so it will be a loss for you to chase Shell or the IOCs away.

Many of them are actually fair compared to local companies because they are scared of bad news on CNN which affects their share price. The nigerian stock market does not care whether mobile police kill you at an Oando facility. Oando share price will still rise inspite of that.
Hoping they understand this.
Politics › Re: Youths Protesting At Shell In Rumuobiakani, Port-Harcourt by Jarus(m): 1:27pm On Jul 16, 2013
You cannot blackmail Shell to giving you job simply because they operate in your community. They give you scholarships, sponsored you in school, etc, yet they want to be spoonfed.

I won Chevron scholarship when I was in school. While 5 of us won from Kwara (a non-oil state), at least 25 students were awarded in each of these oil producing states. I don't have problem with that.

I work in the sector and I know how virtually every local contracts were awarded to the host communities in addition to the various 'homages' to their community rulers. Abeg these boys are being overpampered.
The Shell recruitment exams are usually leaked to the children of the high and mighty in the society leaving the graduates from the community to appear they are not able to pass the exams.
I have friends from teh poorest of homes you can think of getting Shell job. Tell me another story.

I still hold that Shell is one of the most merit-driven organizations we have around. I made that known in a recent article: http://jarushub.com/2013/05/11/shell-recruitment-day-srd-a-note-and-review/
I know it is from dawn to dusk. The only think bothering me is that dawn to dusk is not the same for everyone. Will the people in Alaska get better rewards than those in Nigeria for fasting longer? Again, i'm trying to be educated. I do not want anyone bringing some sort of malice into this.
Same reward for fasting. But probably extra reward for perseverance (doing good deed under harder condition) for the longer ones.

Maybe Wole Soyinka that probably believes in his Yoruba mythology that Sango spits fire from teh mouth, is no longer an 'intellectual'. I'm not a Muslim that hides his religion just to belong or be 'respected', which is what I know people like you like.
