Rexsul: yes Boss! Team APC seriously leadn.....PDP in serious trouble come 2015 oPDP has always lost elections/polls on Nairaland. But unfortunately, NL is not real Nigeria. |
1 out of every 10 Nigerians has hepatitis infection. But less is known about it. |
Probably while you were being robbed, my colleague was narrating his own experience to me too. Yes, Friday, March 1. We were going home together in his car Friday and he narrated how he was robbed 2 days earlier on that same route - Lekki-Epe expressway, before VGC. Riding with my boss one evening she also recounted another one her husband told her he saw few days earlier. Thankfully, I have never experienced it, careless as I usually am. |
Depends on candidate, but in the impossibility of a PDP present a decent candidate (they have a handful of good guys, but surely wont use them), I'm most likely going to go with APC. |

breezey: On the issue of paye, do employees get receipt or any other document after tax has been deducted from their salaries for a particular month, to show that tax has been paid. No, employees don't have receipts issued in their names. What is issued is receipt (for the total sum deducted from all employees and remitted) in employer's name. What employees have is tax clearance certificate (etcc in the case of states that have gone electronic) at the end of the year. But you can ask for monthly receipt if you have the guts to challenge your employers. In any case, if they don't remit, they will be caught by tax authorities when audit is carried out, and in addition to paying the sums due, they will shell out an additional penalty and interest of 31% combined. So it is in their own interest to remit timely. You can hardly escape, especially in Lagos, except you settle, which will also backfire when the settled officer is replaced some day. |
1, Tax Accounting is interesting and challenging. One good thing about it is that with experience it is relatively easier to stand alone and go into consultancy. 2, Taxation is hardly boring, especially if you do it on a large scale, not just computing PIT and CIT for a small company. It has a lot of complexities. A lot of reference to laws, arguments and interpretations, planning etc. You can't have enough. It is hardly monotonous. If you ever have an audit issue with FIRS or LIRS, you will know what I'm saying. Definitely, your internship is never enough to know everything about PIT or CIT. Do you have expats in that organisation? How is it treated? Was tax audit carried out by tax authority during the period and you had to engage the authorities? These are areas your skills and knowledge would come to play, beyond the computations. PPT is a different ball game. There are even different rates for different arrangements within the upstream industry under the PPT regime. And do you know that a single company can be liable to both CIT and PPT? These are complexities that make taxation an ocean you can hardly swim easily. CITN vs ICAN. Well, the issue is that CITN says before you can practice taxation, you must have CITN certificate. ICAN says no, ICAN certificate is enough. Personally, I go with ICAN argument. I am ICAN-qualified and currently writing CITN, but I must say the 2 courses ICAN devote to tax (Taxation in intermediate and Advanced Taxation in PE2) cover every relevant thing in taxation, and indeed cover all the 8 or so subjects CITN devote to it. Meanwhile in CITN, only one course is set aside as accounting (which is even elementary accounting-foundation) meaning that you can be CITN-qualified(and by extension practice taxation) without knowing much accounting. Not knowing much of accounting, your work as a tax professional is limited. This is why I align with ICAN. But if SC rules in favour of CITN, what that means, I guess, is that you can't practice taxation as a professional (I.e set up tax consultancy outfit) without being CITN-qualified even if you have ICAN. But it doesn't mean a company cannot employ you as internal tax accountant without CITN. |
This is not beyond Awo boys in OAU |
I have followed Maruti's update on Naija players for 2 years now (from first thread) and it is because of it I stopped buying soccerstar/completesports or visit their websites. As a die-hard follower on Naija footballers, this thread has been my go-to in the last 2 years. I monitor performance of our players here. |
The were happier. But they suffered more too. My grandpa used to trek from Offa (present day Kwara) to Ibadan (Oyo state). |
Billyonaire: OP, you dont have to be upset, there are many reasons in your explanations why you should be denied the US Visa.Bilikisu making sense |
I work as Tax Accountant in a company in Lagos. Let's share ideas and knowledge and discuss issues taxation here - from students to professionals. Other tax professionals are also invited to give people advices and answer questions. |

I wonder how you fidgeted like that in a visa interview with your qualification (engineer) and exposure (been to UK, Dubai and Turkey several times). You don't appear to have self-confidence. Never applied for US visa (by implication, never visited US - hardly have anything to do there, at least for now), but I understand why it's that hard. I get visa of other countries hitch-freely (got a UK visa sms alert less than 24 hours ago; get U.A.E visa without even leaving my office etc. But given the US situation, I think it is understandable why it is that strict. But you also contributed by lacking self-confidence. |

SHOPPERS: That's why University of Ilorin will forever be my top choice of Federal University in Nigeria. Cultism for where? The same Unilorin where my friend and secondary school senior, Bash, was shot dead in broad daylight for cult-related activity in 2003? The same Unilorin whose student-cultists were arrested by Ogidan 2002-2005? |
alex101: People like you that like to appear neutral are extremely dangerous. So you now associtae Omoigui with Igbo, after all the debate on the falsehood by one Nowa Omoigui of Edo extraction?Instead of simply correccting me that she is Edo, you resorted to name-calling. Have I mentioned igbo in negative light in my comment? |
slimyem: This man don chop "vegetable"...I swear!!Efo awon iya ![]() |
I'm disappointed in Shehu Sanni. FIRS boss is not like minister or board chairmen, we should bother less about ethnicity of whoever occupies the position. They should let professionalism prevail. I know the current acting FIRS chair is a Hausa guy, Kabir something, who is the most senior director in FIRS if I'm right. I think he should be part of the nominees too, but I doubt Ngozi would play the ethnic card. It pains me that we haven't gone beyond this stage. As a tax accountant myself, I commend the last FIRS woman, Omoigui, not because she is Ibo, but because of the work she did. This PwC guy, Taiwo Ogundele, to me is one of our best hands in tax today. I wish he is considered too. He is a very brilliant professional in his thirties. I believe he can continue from where Omoigui stopped. |
Ordinarily as an oil and gas sector worker in Nigeria, some people feel too big to enter public transportation, so much so that very many people find it unimaginable that some of enter public transportation. Not to talk a billionaire! |
I was i that market in January to fix some things in my car. I was alarmed at what I saw and wanted to facebook it sef. That place is not conducive for business/living at all. Too dirty. I remember paying N500 for parking. The mechanic that took me there also connived with the spare parts to attempt fleecing me but trust I vex for both of them and asked them to remove the part and let me drive the car home. The seller, sensing I was serious, backed out and offered the part at almost 50% of what they called for me. |
He is a billionaire, no doubt bt his source of wealth has a question mark written all over it? Pple like mike adenuga was not known as a millionaire in the 80 and he suddenly becomes a billionaire in the 90's. This kind of accidental billionaire can only in a country dat lacks transparency and accountability. To set the record straight, mike adenuga was the ptdf chairman of the maradona, ibb during his administration, and he is one of those dat may be used as finger account to lunder the 90 billion oil windfall of gulf war. Am not moved by sudden billionaires stories becos i expect an average nigerian to know the antecedent of their billionaire bf idiolising them. A word is enough for the wise. All mike adenuga wealth belongs to ibb becos mike is ibb front.
In the 80's he was 27-35. How many millionaires are nationally known in their 20's and early 30's? |
chronique: Was enjoying it until I got to a part where the writer appeared to be getting economical with the truth. Or perharps, doesn't know enough of Mike Adenuga. How many people knew him until the advent of Glo? As a young man,I was always reading about influential Nigerians while growing up & I never came across the name "Mike Adenuga".You are wrong, guy. As a young boy too, I was always reading Tell and other newsmagazines on politics and economy. I first read about Adenuga in 1992 as a 10 year-old primary school pupil. I remember that edition of Tell (or was it Newswatch?) that wrote extensively on sale of some oil blocs and remember reading a sentence like '38 years old Micheal Adenuga also won XYZ block with his consolidated oil'. I remember vividly. I had known Adenuga since teh early 90's. Other names I saw in that edition of Tell, if I recall faintly, were Folawiyo, Arisekola, Abiola, Mai Deribe. I knew Adenuga very well then. In fact, my younger brothers and classmates can testify to how I used to tell them about one young multi-millionaire that bought oil bloc, way back in the early 90's. In any case, he floated Devcom Bank circa 1990. If you don't have money, you can't float a bank. I wonder why people say Glo brought him out. Well, that's for those who were not following news/economy in the 90's. This is why I tried to tell people that this man was already a multi-billionaire before Glo. I knew him way before Dangote. I first heard of Dangote in 1996 when I heard on NTA news that one Alhaji Aliko Dangote donated N500,000 to Nigeria's olympic winning team. You don't need to be a household name before you are rich. Glo brought him into limelight because telcom is a household business. There are many multi-billionaire oil magnates people don't know, because their business, upstream oil and gas is not a household thing. How many people know ABC Orjiakor of Seplat oil? How many people knew Modupe Alakija of Famfa oil before Forbes brought her out in 2012 when she is 60 plus already? |
Very interesting write-up. The guy's ajasa added colour to it. |
Honestly, GEJ is getting himself too involved in politics than governance/administration. ![]() |
A good man, but too soft for Nigeria, hence massive corruption went on under him. However, like Sanusi wrote in one of his articles, compared to the thieving public officers of today, second republic thieves were saints. Buhari/Idiagbon jailed almost all second republic politicians for what was a 'chicken change' to what today's leaders steal and walk freely. |

If I'm being asked by a non-Nigerian or somebody that doesn't know I'm a Nigerian, my answer will obviously be 'I'm from Nigeria'. But if being asked same question by a Nigerian who knows I'm a Nigerian already, obviously he meant which part of Nigeria I'm from, so I will asnwer him 'I'm from Kwara state'. |
