While we cannot query what drives everyone's nomination we would appreciate if this is not turned into ethnicity battle.

We trust Nairalanders, especially the posters in this Nairaland's numero uno section, to let merit be the guiding force in nominating.

Thanks

For the complaints, please go vent them at the complaints thread. This thread is for nomination.

Sweetnecta may turn out to be the best 'poster' I4M section never crowned, just as JJ Okocha, Michael Essien are great players that never won African best player award.

Tbaba was upcoming last year, but shot to prominence this year. I rooted for Sweetnecta last year but he didnt win, thanks or no thanks to people that believed he dwelled more in Religion section tackling our 'friends' there than here.

All the same, I'm sure we are all mature enough to know that all these are just for fun, as almighty Allah is the only one that can reward each and everyone for his/her efforts at defending this deen here.

Story has it that when these guys were all in secondary schools in the 1950's, Sarduana toured northern schools advising them to consider career in military. This was why they all took to military and rose to become Generals.

Interesting to know that IBB, Abdussalam, Gado Nasko, Mamman Vatsa, Magoro were all classmates in secondary school and rose to become at least Major General, with 2 of them becoming Heads of state.

ehie: abdulsalam was cool, where is magoro and AB Ahmed?
Magoro is now a Senator, formerly PDP BOT member. He also rose to become Major General, was once ECOMOG(or was it its forenner?) commander, was twice minister. He retired when Buhari was ousted in 1985, even though IBB called him to serve. He is one of the Zuru Generals.

I met him couple of times as the former Chair of my former company. Nice man, still handsome even at 70 plus today.
Islam › Re: Jinn Stories by Jarus(m): 10:12am On Dec 04, 2012
-Charms etc also work by way of jinns. Some people enter into contract with jinn and the jinn, which are usually very powerful, do some things for them. They can now send the jinn on errands. I have a very close person, who was pregnant, and had a dream. In the dream, she saw herself travel for an occasion in her hometown and everybody greeting her for her pregnancy. Then a woman came, stood in front of her, and use cutlass to cut her womb and remove the baby! Alas, she woke up and started seeing blood. She had miscarriage. That was clearly a jinn at work, whether sent by someone or just out of pure mischief, we don't know. Meanwhile, somebody, who is known to consult herbalists, had threatened her shortly before that time. But it happened, she had a dream, a woman removed her pregnancy and she lost the pregancy in real life! Just last year. With my knowledge of jinns and their activities and my little eeman, I wasn't so disturbed. I told the person to move on, that nothing happens except Allah permits. That Allah is indeed more powerful than their charms, their herbalists, their jinns. It wasn't funny, but I thank God for my understanding of this subject which helped immensely in advising the victim. Some ignorant people would have gone astray, running helter skelter, from alfas to herbalists to pastors because of that experience (which is the most terrible of her many similar experience). This is why this topic runs me emotional. I have seen too many real life experience from people close to me.
Islam › Re: Jinn Stories by Jarus(m): 9:55am On Dec 04, 2012
-Most of the so-called visions - where they actually happen and not someone just concocting something - are also activities of jinns deceiving people. Of course there are good dreams, through which almighty Allah can show someone something. But anything seen that contradicts Qur'an and sunnah is from shaytaan through its jinn. That's the simple test. If I wake up tomorrow to say I have seen vision that God sends me to do something and that thing runs contrary to what is known in Qur'an and sunnah, definitely what I saw is shaytaan-induced e.g I stop praying (Allah forbids) or begins to say I have seen the light in dream and becomes a pastor (God forbids!. That's the simple test. This is why I pity many people(including many Muslims, unfortunately including a close friend) who see something in dreams (vision) and begin to deviate, saying they have seen teh light and now on track.

-Jinns also try to sow discord in families through dreams and demonic vision. A very close person to me recently dreamt that she saw one family member pursuing her with cutlass in dream. She began to fret. I told her most likely it's the jinn trying to cause disaffection between her and this family member, that I seriously doubt the woman she saw would ever thought of harming her. I told her to ignore and just fortify herself with constant adhkars and never, on that basis, hate the person. I had read about the story narrated by a sunnatic exorcist of a jinn that disturbed one woman in Kano few years ago. The lady was always having a dream that her father was having sex with her and anytime she woke up she sees herself wet, satisfied, and when the husband, a Chartered Accountant, turns to her for sex, she would have lost interest, having just had one from dream with her father. It persisted and she hated her father, thinking it was her father that was actually coming in dream to sleep with her. Well, when ruqyah was performed on the lady, the jinn disturbing her spoke, saying it wanted to sow discord between her and the father. This is the same phenomenon that has destroyed many homes, where many people, unfortunately many Muslims too, fret over this matter and claim it is one father or mother or one member of their family doing them, and began to compound their woes by consulting deviant alfas, herbalists and pastors, who, missguided by jinns too, also affirm that it is their father or mother or brother or sister doing them, whereas the poor man or woman may not even know anything about it. But a discordant jinn taking his/her form and causing wahala in their lives

Let me however mention that on some occasions, it has turned out that it is their close relations that are indeed using the jinn to disturb them. For example, Alhaji Isa Akindele narrated the story of a lady he exorcised in Lagos here. The lady, a hijab sister, started behaving strangely. It was later suspected it was jinn; and Alhaji was called. It gave Alhaji very tough time but at the end of the day, he was able to cast out the jinn from the woman. As the jinn was able to leave, the lady's mother ran out of the house naked, carrying a black pot, asking Alhaji to stop the ruqyah, that she was the one that sent the jinn to her daughter for refusing to join her in withcraft. Witchraft, it should be noted, also occurs through teh use of jinns.
Islam › Re: Jinn Stories by Jarus(m): 9:30am On Dec 04, 2012
There are varied symptoms of Jinns, but it should be noted that some symptoms bear closeness to medical/psychological conditions, so some of these symptoms may be medical, requiring regular orthodox attention/treatment. In fact, some scholars on Jinn advise people to seek medical attention first for those symptoms that converge with orthodox medicine. For example insanity can arise from medical/mental condition, it can also arise from jinn possession. But for insanity that is jinn-induced, you will just realize that all orthodox treatments are just not changing anything. And most important way to know, the victim's strange behaviour will relate more to things that have to do with religion, especially Islam. The insane utterances and activities are more related to religion, the person may even behave well in mundane matters without any sign of mental imbalance.

Other ways affect human
-Terrible dreams, usually persistent (There are 3 types of dreams according to the Prophet PBUH - good dreams from Allah, bad dreams from shaytaan and those dreams from our sub-conscious e.g you see something you like and you dream about it, that's harmless, just imagination. But the terrible, very bad ones are the ones from Jinn, who are agents of shaytaan

-Jinns can take human form and appear to you and you would think you see the actual person. Imam Taymiyyah, in the essay Tbaba posted up there, narrated one of his students in far away claiming he was in problem and called Imam Ibn Taymiyya's name and Imam appeared to him and saved him; and on getting back to Imam, he said it was not him that he saw, but a Jinn that had taken his form and made the person to commit shirk (calling other than Allah for help). At the risk of offending our sufi(especially Tijaniyya) brothers here, I personally hold that the claim that Ibrahim Niyass saw prophet who gave him solatul fatihi(when in actual fact, anything means of worship ended with the death of the last messenger) is jinn-induced. Someone saw jinn who called himself prophet to him and gave him bid'ah. Allah knows best.

Now, I saw your questions up there.

Masha Allah, to me, you fear something when you don't know the mystery behind it, but when you know what is behind a phenomenon you have a peace, you have explanation for it.

For example, if I had a terrible dream, I know the phenomenon behind it. I don't need to worry so much, I don't need to consult any alfa or disturb myself so much. It is shayatin at work and I know the Islamic recommednation for such.

Even today, if I see a tree talk, I won't be so surprised or fearful, because I know it can only happen by jinn possession of the three etc

I recite 'awudhu bi kalimatu llahi taamati mimsharri mon khalaq' when I'm I'm in a dark, fearful place and put my mind with Allah. If after the necessary fortification from Qur'an and sunnah, anything bad happens, I know its will of Allah.

As for the pinning down on bed like somebody holding you, I have experienced that like 4 times in the last 4 years. One happened when I wanted to wake up by 5 am in the morning, another in the midnight like 2-3am.

It wasn't funny, as I struggled to recite ayatul kursiyyu and suratul nas and ikhlas, it was like my mouth was sealed and I was shaking, struggling to recite the ayats. But after 2-3 minutes I was able to and I recite. I believe it's jinn disturbance. But I don't see it as big deal, masha Allah.

As a personal fortification, I recite ayatul kursiyy and suratul falaq and nas before sleeping every night in the last 10 years.

Get a copy of Hisnul Muslim(Citadel of the believer) for such sunnatic fortifications.

I advise every Muslim to please read comprehensively about Jinn, especially the works of Imam Ibn Taymiyyah.

It is a very interesting subject that explains a lot of mysteries and puzzles. From the so-called reincarnation to juju to charm to magic to TB Joshua to fortune telling etc, many things. You will understand the mystery behind a lot of things.

I just like this our deen the way it explains everything. The more one reads and knows about all these things the deeper one's faith becomes.

Imam Ibn Taymiyya lived in Syria more than 800 years ago and it is amusing that that story he narrated about someone he met being told by jinn not to pray again, same experience in my family in Kwara state of Nigeria as recently as 8 years ago. Something, lying to the person as 'God', telling the person to stop praying salats. Exactly like the case Ibn Taymiyyah narrated more than 800 years ago, and I'm just even reading that narration for the first time here now.

You could create thread for that. Meanwhile, I don't think women don't visit and are not active here. Kobojunkie has been one of the top 5 posters in this section for more than 5 years now. My iyawo-in-the-pipeline(whether she calls me Fulani sell-out or not. Lol), Desola, is also very active here, ditto for Ileke and co. I think the feminine gender is adequately represented here.

Aafulenu: yes i didnt put my class of degree. i will include it immediatly. thanks very much, i used to tink it wasnt necessary. btw i graduated with a 2.2
It is very necessary. That's probably the first criteria in shortlisting.

They first sort, manually or with system, into First Class, 2.1, and if they want 2.2, then 2.2 etc. Not having Class of degree there means they don't know what you graduated with and will just put your CV aside.

It is very critical, at least for entry level positions. For experienced hire positions, it may not be so.

You are however free to explain to us why a nominee is not worth it, or why he is, perhaps that may influence other members from nominating the person or otherwise. But we wont officially drop anybody based on the fact that you give us reason why he doesnt deserve it. We would consider that your personal opinion and other members are free to make or modify their choice based on it.

wesley80: Can I voice my disapproval of some of the nominations? I mean could we discuss the merits or demerits of nominations as they come in? dont wanna derail cos I'm desperate to end the year without a ban! Some feat that would be.
LOL @ ending year without ban.

Methink who is hero to one person can be a villain to another person, but like they say, majority are hardly wrong, why not let us base it on who the majority think i.e most nominated, and later most voted for?
