That's why you have to work very hard in getting 2.1, if not First Class.

That, at least, gets you invited for tests, where you have the opportunity to prove yourself.

Apart from the social status it confers on one, my next most important driving force in striving for a good grade in the university was increasing my competitive edge. I knew there were many 2.1's out there, so I can't afford not to do better and get a step higher. I literally went for kill.
Career › Re: Kindly Help A Frustrated Soul by Jarus(m): 1:56pm On Dec 05, 2012
Robertomatteo: Thank you Mr Jarus for the kind words and compliments. I read Environmental Biology in school and finished with a second class lower. I have not been called up for any interview yet and often times I lay it down to the fact that I graduated with a second class lower in a less glamorous course of study but the truth is that I know what I can offer as an individual.

When it comes to skills, the only one I have is the ability to write. However, in these months I have been Idle, I have been cheated countless times all in the name of writing for people. No one wants to pay, and those that will pay can only part with paltry sums barely enough to pay for the internet research time. If I have been able to land a writing or editing job with reasonable pay, I won't be in this situation today.

Regarding having patience, I wish I could do more than this. You are right with my Graduation and NYSC timing but Sir, I simply cannot afford to go into next year without anything doing. Who knows, I could even be thrown out of the current place am staying anytime soon as the guy am staying with is already showing negative vibes and going back home will only kill my parents a little further.

Painfully, I see people I am much better than academically landing positions all over Abuja (both government and private parastatals on a daily basis).
I feel your pain. It's appearing you know your onions and your being out of job is not because of personal deficiency.

Well, I wont advise taking to anything unholy. I can only say, just keep pushing, dont get frustrated.

2pence: Its an IT firm based in Lagos and the contract after probations states that the salary will be increased to 80 thousand Naira for an executive Manager

The point is I think Most employers of labour in this Country really don't value CV's or should I say frustrate folks with overseas qualifications WHY ?
It's not totally a matter of CV. An employer wont pay you what he can't afford or what is more than the value you add to his business.
Career › Re: Kindly Help A Frustrated Soul by Jarus(m): 1:04pm On Dec 05, 2012
You write quite well, which, to a reasonable extent, presents you as someone good enough for white collar job.

Truth, unfortunately, is there is excess supply of qualified people for white collar jobs. So it is highly competitive; hundreds of hthousands of people like you competing for few spaces.

Banks and financial institutions in general still remain the largest absorber of skilled labour, despite the challenges in the last few years.

What is your discipline?
What did you graduate with?

Have you ever been called for tests? What was your performance in the tests?

I understand your position, the pressure, the justified expectations from your parents etc, but you don't have to take to crime. Please don't; you will only compound the challenges of your parents, if things go awry.

Retain your honour, keep pushing. You finished 2010, meaning you completed NYSC 2011 in the earliest. That's not too long, frankly. I know people that searched for jobs for 5 years and it wasn't that they were not qualified. My closest friend in teh university, who had a 2-1, strong 2-1 (4-point plus), stayed two years at home after our NYSC before he got a bank job.

So I can only only advise you keep pushing. You can be exploring self-employment alternatives too, thinking of what you can do, what special skills you can acquire.

Sun newspaper even gave Akpabio governor of the year in 2010 or so and Lamido the year before.
Politics › Re: The Media Is An Opposition Dominated Industry by Jarus(m): 8:33am On Dec 05, 2012
And to back up my assertions, go and check all Nairaland's recent threads on 'best governors/Top 5 governors' etc, Amaeachi, Akpabio and Lamido and even Chime got constant mentions.

As for Fashola, the reason for his publicity is simple. More than half of educated Nigerians know Lagos - either on visit or living here or seeing/reading the activities in the media; so it is easy to see and judge a working governor in Lagos.

And apart from Fashola -and maybe Aregbesola - I don't think other SW governors (Ajimobi and Amosun in particular) have press image better than that of Amaechi and Lamido.
Politics › Re: The Media Is An Opposition Dominated Industry by Jarus(m): 8:24am On Dec 05, 2012
Compared to the cons, it is still a good thing that opposition controls the media.

The government has NTA which is still the most watched station, especially by the middle to lower class who reside in places other than big cities of Lagos, PH, Abuja, Kano etc. These PDP states, which are in teh majority also have local stations for their use. These governments hire all manners of Media advisers, PR guys etc from the formal to the informal media. Reno is there tackling el-Rufai on twitter, Abati and Okupe doing the formal media thing, Beaf and co, even if not sponsored, are giving the Gbawes of this world run for their money on Nairaland here.

So, if the opposition guys are having upper hand and able to tilt public sentiments in their favour, I don't think anyone is to blame. That is the way I see it.

That said, I think Amaeachi and Sule Lamido have their own due of good press. I don't agree they are under-reported.

Akpabio is the only PDP performer I think is not getting the deserved publicity and I will blame his media/PR guys for that.

Islam › Re: Jinn Stories by Jarus(m): 5:22pm On Dec 04, 2012
i believe what u said dat it's jinns. what about this version:

two different people told me it's 'WITCHES'. that they use thier private part to cover the sleepong vitim's face. how true is this?
I have mentioned times without number that what is called withcraft is nothing but some humans using jinns (it's usually a contract, the Jinn requests them to do some things too) to affect human.

There are two types of ways evil jinns can affect human

1, Being sent by human (withcraft, charms etc work by this)
2, Just out of its own mischief, not being sent by anybody.

Clearly, the case you mentioned above is jinn at work, but whether it is on its own or being used by some evil people(withcraft) is what I cannot tell.
Islam › Re: Jinn Stories by Jarus(m): 5:18pm On Dec 04, 2012
tbaba1234: .

I commented on this earlier but from i have read curing an affected person may involve flogging as the blows fall on the jinn and when the person recovers, he usually inform those present that he didnt feel a thing.
Yes, exorcism sometimes involves beating, but it should be one of the last resorts and should be methodical. I heard from Dr Bilal Philips of a case in Manchester where during beating during exorcism the victim died and it became a case for the exorcists, and I think they were jailed.

PointB: lol, nice slide tackling.

You also remind of Mai Shia (the tea makers by the roadside),
Each time I chance upon them by the roadside, I usually imagine you siting in some corner beside the gutter, struggling with stove, mixing milo and saccharin with frumpy face like the world forced the trade upon you shoulder, and everyone is your enemy except for few. I mostly shake my head and wonder whatever make you grumpy and sad. Pray is it seun or mukina2 that brough this upon you? You don't have to do what you don't enjoy doing. Life is too sweet to be lived in bondage.

I only seek to add flavour and colour to your thread. Smile and enjoy yourself a little.
