Ola one: But this is unfair.Bad precedence. That effectively marks the end of ban rule. If anybody gets disqualified by the rule in future year, he would simply cite this as an example and claims if it was waived for Afam so so year, it should be waived for him too. It's a honest error on my part, for not checking his ban log earlier. But it's better late than render an important rule dead because of non-enforcement. |
Desola , Last warning on your use of strong words against forum members, ![]() |
Ujchief I'm seeing your activities in the voting thread. Last warning pls. |
ujchief: thats what made jarus panick and start the one-man committee to disqualify afam who had the highest number of nominations prior to his disqualification! It's a 3 man committee. My attention was called to it very late yesterday. I even made frantic efforts to get a waiver for him, but it didn't work out, for precedence sake. |
Isn't it interesting? My Yoruba brothers and sisters, led by Desola, accuse me of being 'tribalistic mola', aboki, fulani, traitor descendant of Afonja My Igbo brothers are also accusing me of being Yoruba agent. I think that's fair enough. I remain a detribalized Nigerian that care not about where someone comes from. |

We want all participants to have full info on candidates. |
Mukina, Meanwhile, my disqualification of Afam4eva in my section is causing serious katakata o. I will need your firm show-up there o |

BREAKING NEWS We just finished a meeting of Nairaland Politics Section Management and from our final due diligence check, we found out Afam4eva was banned: 1, By Seun on June 9, 2012 2, By Seun on July 15, 2012 3, By Mukina2 on August 1, 2012 4, By Ogugua88 on August 4, 2012 5, By Ikenna351 on November 24, 2012 As we stated in our opening rules, being banned more than twice this year means a poster is not qualified. Afam4eva is therefore disqualified. Naptu2 moves on to the 3rd spot. I take full responsibility for this, as I should have checked and acted earlier before the nomination ended. But it's one of those things. We re-assure you of our continued fairness, as much as humanly possible, in this exercise and other official exercises in this section. Thank you Jarus |

Voting opens. May the best man win! Please don't forget the rules. |
NAPTU2 Naptu is obviously the dark horse here. He is the only one that is making it to the top 3 for the first time. Naptu is actually not an unknown name in this section, even in time past. Only that he does his things so quietly. He is a silent quality in this section. He is also not much into partisanship and sectarianism - perhaps the reason he is not regarded as a top shot in this section. But like they say, a goldfish definitely has no hiding place, it was only a matter of time before he took his deserved position in the league of top posters here. His recent thread on history of Nigeria in pictures shot him into prominence. And he has actually started similar threads in the past. Are these enough to clinch him the award this year? It's your decision, ladies and gentlemen. ""Of all Liberties, freedom to know, to speak and to criticise stands first: this freedom is the bugbear of tyrants…A press that is not free cannot achieve a higher standing as an institution than that of a gramophone industry…" (Herbert Macaulay)" Thanks to Naptu, we may never have even known Herbert Macaulay fought for independent press far back 1930's. And that's just one of the many ways Naptu educated us. |
KATSUMOTO: Katsumoto is so good that since the beginning of this award three years ago, he has always featured in top 3. In fact, in 2010, he only lost by 1 vote. Last year, he was 3rd. Katsumoto has a wide appeal in this section as a value-adding intellectual. He argues with facts. He marshals his points coherently. Katz is one of the few posters here you need to do extensive homework before arguing with. He was also the winner of the first edition of Nairaland Politics Section monthly debate that took place in October. He also took active part as moderator in November edition. Is this Katz's time? Or will he retain his bronze and silver spots like Super Eagles in Nations cups? I can't wait pls "Why did the British force groups of people who were so different in many ways into a union? To understand this conundrum, one has to look at the antecedents of the administrators at that time. Who oversaw the amalgamation of Nigeria? Lord Lugard was the British administrator who saw to the amalgamation of Nigeria and the name Nigeria was allegedly coined by his wife. Lord Lugard worked for a number of British corporations whose economic interests lay in British colonies. He worked for the British West Charterland Company, the Royal East African Company before transferring to the Royal Niger Company. As with all corporations, the primary motive is profit. These weren’t the days of Corporate Social Responsibility and even if a corporation had some moral justification to provide social benefits, it certainly didn’t feel this way about a people it felt were savages." -Katsumoto, surgically deconstructing the psychology of the 1914 amalgamation |
GBAWE: Long-typing Gbawe joined Nairaland in May 2009 and has never looked back as a force to reckon with in this section. He is generally regarded as Nairaland politics leader of opposition. He deploys his writing skills in arguments and debates, to the delight of many. He is usually at his best when deconstructing Federal Government policies, actions and inactions. He is the rallying point for those that term themselves as progressives(whether you agree they are or not is another thing). Gbawe clinched the big prize here last year. Will he retain it as the first poster to do so? Or will he be dethroned? It's left for you! "I see people attacking the rich and successful routinely and without a care for decency and fairness. As Nigerians, we should know better given how we are victims of negative stereotyping by other Africans. You have a nice car, nice house and dress well - all gained through hard work and talent. Yet fellow Africans , never bothered about developing themselves optimally so as to compete and thrive , are more comfortable excusing their own deficiencies by sneering at you and telling the world you are not to be respected because you gained everything through criminality, fraud etc." -Gbawe, taking a jibe at the tendency to throw away the baby with the bathwater in our political analyses. |
We thank everyone that took part in the first stage of this exercise, where we got 9 valid nominees in all. https://www.nairaland.com/1118156/politics-section-poster-year-2012/10#13301405 The top 3 made it to this final round, which is taking place here. As a quick recollection, Nairaland Politics Section Poster of the year is an initiative of Nairaland management to recognize posters that have made quality contribution to the section in the year under consideration. Nairaland's sectional awards officially started in 2009, but that of politics section was not recognized in 2009. In 2010, Dapobear(ekt.bear) clinched the award ahead of Katsumoto and Kobojunkie https://www.nairaland.com/535083/dapobear-emerges-politics-section-poster 1n 2011, Gbawe pocketed the 'prize', with Onlytruth and Katsumoto coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. https://www.nairaland.com/815425/gbawe-voted-politics-section-poster This year, our first round (open nomination) has thrown up 3 contenders. They are 1, Gbawe 2, Katsumoto 3, Naptu Who will take the prize come December 23 end of the voting? You decide Rule 1, Just name the person, out of these three, that you feel deserves the award. No long story pls. Nomination thread is still open for side talks, just name your choice here and move on. 2, Any user that registered later than November 30 2012 is not eligible to vote. Any vote fron such handle is invalid. Similarly any old handle that has less than 3 posts as at December 08, 2012 is not eligible to vote. 3, Voting twice means automatic disqualification and both votes are invalid 4, For posters who are well-known to operate more than one handle. Only vote from their main handle is valid. So all these XXXX1, XXXX2 XX.XX handles are invalid. E.g Musiwa1-1000 5, And of course, the contenders are also free to vote. 6, No official counting until final day. 7, We will greatly appreciate if tribal and other primordial considerations are not allowed to influence this. We trust everyone for their objectivity. Voting ends 10pm December 23, 2012 Ladies and gents, let's make this happen. Let's hunt for the best poster in the biggest section in the largest online forum in the largest black nation! Final Result - 23-12-12 Katsumoto - 40 Gbawe - 35 Naptu2 - 22 |

By my hidden post up here we have recorded the standing as at now, 5 hours to close of exercise. We have decided to hide for now to avoid last minute intrigues and connivance. We will open and update final results by 10pm tonight. But some hints: it is getting interesting, there are 4 guys running neck to neck, only 3 will make it to final round. The Top 4 are on 14, 13, 12, 10 respectively. 5 hours to go, will the order change? Let's keep watching. |
NOMINATIONS TO DATE 5 hours to go: Afam4eva 14 Gbawe 13 Katsumoto 12 Naptu 10 Bluetooth 1 Spyder88 1 Isale_gan2 1 Lacasa 1 Ogugua88 1 Desola 1 |
We had initially announced that the nomination phase will last 2 weeks. But a directive from Chief Operating Officer of Nairaland has it that all award threads end today, for uniformity. Nomination therefore closes by 10pm tonight. Nomination results will be announced 10pm. Top 3 make it to final round of voting(fresh thread to be opened for it). Election thread will be up by 8am tomorrow morning. |

Sanusi's talk us beginning to work 0 |
bolaino: @sammilla, u say most of them work in offices with internet connection, yeah, but if they have important jobs and important duties they won't be coming here every single minute to make comments and quarrel all the time on nairaland, imagine a bank manager coming here all the time to make comments like "how does this affect the price of garri in the market" that seems very unlikely, I doubt any person who has important duties would have that kind of time to play around on a working day, (mind u, I'm on vacation) so don't turn this around on me, roll in the insults pls, as is typical of hypocritical nairalanders. There are many managers here, many unit and department heads here, with every sector represented, from oil and gas to banking to telecommunication to aviation, just name it. At least I know very active posters here that are managers in Chevron, Mobil, Etisalat etc |
felifeli: Of course he says he is not interested in 2nd term because he knows that he is not going to bloody get it.His policies have been near I.di.otic and that is being charitable. Where was the loudmouth before he became CBN governor? Now he suddenly thinks he is the greatest superstar in the world. Didn't he retract his 50% staff cut gaffe ? Mark my words he will be competing for president next election. The tragedy is that the lun.at.ic would actually believe that he could winSorry, I feel for you. SLS won't contest presidency. Mark my word. And you asked where was? Well, he has been an activist since his university days as youngest member of ABU students parliament in 1978. He participated in Ali Must Go riot of 1978. He was part of Radio Kudirat team - the guerilla radio outfit fighting for the enthronment of democracy in the 90's during the Abacha era. And from 1998-2005, he wrote articles lamenting the situation in this country and berating the political class. So if you're ignorant of history, it is not Sanusi to blame, 'go and meet your wife and you will be happy'. |
We are having a go at the topic. I believe we can raise the topic beyond the bashfest and intellectualize it. We will set out the rules and strictly enforce them. It's going to be a dialogue, not a judged debate. |
