Librate:Abnormal English teacher, don't teach us nonsense. |
The guy was widely regarded as a genius then, sometimes irrational sef. You know all those Profs of old that behave somehow |
Another avenue to chop money, like the National ID card project. |
Kx:Because these guys outlived him. He died in 1984, yet still being discussed today. |
While I will not compare Awojobi with Achebe, I realize one thing here: a lot of Nigerians of our generation know little about basic history. Professor Awojobi, though a high flying Engineering, was more known for his anti-government, pro-masses stances. He was Gani Fawehinmi and Wole Soyinka rolled into one. He was a radical within the short, 47 years he lived. The most interesting thing about him is that he combined art and science, and he excelled in both, without having to drop one for teh other. Now, was he greater than Achebe? I don't think so. But hey, Prof Awojobi was one of the greatest Nigerians. |
When I read the 'assasination attempt' version in papers today, it sounded like cock and bull story to me. This version appears more real to me. |
Raxxye:In what way did he play a role sir? |
I will not advise him to contest but I will vote for him if he decides to do. |
There is nothing wrong in it, but it should not be routine. |
Wetin concern babalawo with economy? |
I am not surprised. That is Hausa culture for you. I served in Ahmadu Bello's village, Rabah, Sokoto state, and the corpers lodge I stayed in was said to be built by Sardauna himself as guest house. Although they like cars, many of them are not big fans of houses. They try as much as possible to preserve their culture. It is in Sokoto state(Gudu village) that I saw a man using a car worth 1m but staying in a practically mud house. Even in eateries, there is provision for mats on the floor where the men sit to eat, to preserve their tradition. Even Dangote's'house at Karimu Kotun in VI here, though still elegant, is only average when compared with less rich folks like Okoya etc. Although some few modern ones can be arrogant. |
State capitals I have been to: Ikeja, Ibadan, Osogbo, Akure, Ado Ekiti, PH, Sokoto, Gusau, Ilorin, Kaduna, Kano and Minna. Worst: To throw a coin btw Gusau and Ado Ekiti, although I was highly disappointed in PH too. |
My role model, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, finished from your school. |
I did it as a topic in Commerce. |
fellis:Why do people keep saying this? I have never been a journalist. Stiff and unapproachable? I don't think so. Nairalanders that have met me will attest to that. But I agree I sometimes take NL too seriously. But stiff and unapproachable? No.Meanwhile, I still await someone to narrate to us a scene where OYB and BEAF meet. But I know somebody comes out of that scene with swollen nose. ![]() |

I agree with Pukkah. It's a regular, normal thing. Bank Managers have never been untouchable. |
To a considerable extent, I agree. I read Economics and intended to work in an organization where my knowledge of Economics can be put to use, like CBN, DMO or even Shell. I got an Accounting job immediately after finishing my NYSC, wrote ICAN and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. I currently do Accounting job. But I have not lost sight of going back into Economics. I know the Group Chief Finance Officer of a big company in Nigeria that had engineering background. He studied an engineering course for 1st and 2nd degrees. But he got his first job in an Audit firm, PwC. That was teh beginning of his Accounting career. He went ahead to write Accounting professional exams and I think an Msc in Finance. Today, he is a guru in Finance/Accounting and ED Finance in a big, popular Nigerian company whose operations stretch beyond Nigeria. |
Igi wo lule, ile wo lugi sugbon ile k'owo patapata |
An ex-ED in Shell is not a poor person, but then 20m euro is still very big price to anybody. Making it more suspicious is the fact that she oversees teh juicest portfolio in the land, which can easily be turned into private money spinning business. |
So this man is this read and exposed? Seasoned professional(banker) Ex-Bank GM, ED. From a far distance I used to see him as one semi-literate politician. |
And a goal scorer in the backwater Maltese league should be invited for our SE? |
BF can at best make Semi Finals! |
Honestly, this verse gets tears from my eyes on reflection many times. |
On paper CIV are the best African team, but like Holland and until recently Spain Europe, they are under achievers. More than anything, I think they have not been lucky. Ghana are great fighters and I believe that is more important than talent which CIV has. Senegal has good talents in every department. Mousa Sow and Demba Ba are strikers that can wreck any team. Another advantage they have other big teams tend to underrate them given the fact that their teams had been having poor performance in past couple of editions. Now, who stands the highest chance: I think CIV, Ghana and Senegal in that order. |
