Jeneba is now a UN diplomat. Gandoki is now a Senator from Katsina. |
On paper, this man sounds genuine and patriotic. If he is sincere about it and not a case of cheap politics, then he has my respect and salute. |
Ole. After collecting 5m per month. |
Naija never carry last. Lol |
I wonder what type of country ours is when every position is based on settling one political IOU or the other. Aren't political appointments supposed to be based on what someone can offer rather than as a compensation. Imagine Osun's former deputy governor, dance-loving Erelu Obada as Minister of state for defence. What does that one know about defence. I recognize the fact that political appointments anywhere in the world can also be a means of placating frayed interests, but when the bulk of appointments are based on this factor, one wonders what such a government can offer with such people. Save Okonjo Iweala, Omobola Johnson, Agriculture minister and very few others, I am not aware of any other position this govt filled based on capability and merit. |
UI and Ilorin are highly respected in Medicine in Nigeria, not to exclude my alma mater, OAU. The choice is yours. |
Not likely they ask you for either, but I think I have heard of case of being asked for letter of last promotion/salary adjustment. But as said by others earlier, nothing like not compromising integrity as you'd done here. |
Hmmmnnnn, Olawalebab & Bhusayor, Jay bee & deols Oya o, more joinings ![]() |
It depends on your social outlook to life. When I was in similar position few years ago(before marriage though)I went for car and if I were to be in similar position I will go for car. First car though, if a 2nd, 3rd car, will not go for such. But I think the smarter decision is to go for land for reasons such as permanence, appreciation etc I went for car then in protest to my parents who refused to get a car for me when i started working, contrary to family tradition. I bought land few months later. |
fxtopedia:Where is the contradiction? My parents chose polygamy and they(and we are) are happy with it, and I want to choose monogamy and still be happy. Where is the contradiction/ Similitude: My brother went to Unilag and he is satisfied with it, does that mean I should also go for Unilag? I can still go to UI and be happy. They are not mutually exclusive. My family being happy under polygamy doesn't mean I will not be happy with monogamy. And honestly, the more I read some Muslims give blanket criticism of polygamy, the more it becomes attractive to me. |
^^^^ I am from a polygamous family and we are one of the happiest and coherent units you can wish to belong to? What about that? As for me I don't have any plans to do polygamy,(though never say never) but I will never speak against it nor discourage whoever opts to do, but can remind him to think over it very well and weigh the cons and pros viz a viz his capacity. |
American English is funkier than British English. When I write officially, I use British English, otherwise I mix. But they've become so mixed in Nigeria that you may not even know which ones are American and which are British except you consciously study/know them. In academic circle in Nigeria, 'color', 'neighbor' and others are still 'marked' wrong. |
This is most devilish. See people o. Honestly, this is why I hardly blame umsympathetic people, as some people just dont deserve sympathy. I pray teh counsellor gets well soon. And on a lighter note, Lindaikeji can do better in its reporting. It's 'gaga' not 'gagger' plus few other errors in that report. |
David Mark should not deny us Yoruba in Kwara/Kogi Oya state o, with the Capital in Offa. |
See ignorance of NL filter on display here. |
Naturally, a woman will find discomfiting his husband marrying another wife. This is natural and I think pardonable but a Muslim woman should try to suppress it and avoid overreacting. She should, with wisdom, try to convince the husband that taking more than 1 wife is optional not mandatory and by staying monogamous, he has not breached any Islamic principle, and she should be careful here not to see polygamy as bad, which it is not. If her persuasion fails, let her recognize the fact that Allah that permits polygamy knows us more than ourselves and we have to respect his injunctions. He should not go mad at her husband nor make the house hot. If she comports herself well(it's hard naturally) she will not lose anything. I am from a polygamous family and though Hajia Jarus must not hear this(and she comes to NL once in a while. Lol) it's never say never, although no short to medium term plans to do 2. |
I just got mine few hours ago and I saw a lot of differences, in fact looks like I had been blind all these years. Things appear clear to me. Now I should be able to drive better. I still will be using it only when I need sha, like when driving at night and under rainfall and I can also sit conveniently at the back in trainings as well as read everything on my TV screen from my chair-distance - these are main areas the short-sightedness affect me. |
Having been worried by the prevalence of cancer deaths these days, I have taken up the campaign myself. Recently I sent a mail to all members of my department(organization) reminding them on the need to know more about Cancers and attached a 15-slide presentation I got from an online health site I subscribed to. None of them deserves publicity more than the other but I think we need to still do more on Cancer. The challenge is Cancer, unlike, HIV is more difficult to explain, especially to the illiterate population. Cancer is far more complex, even to diagnose unlike HIV. From causes to symptoms, Cancer is just too complex unlike HIV which can easily be explained as transmittable thru blood or other body fluids exchange. I have been doing serious personal reading on Cancer in recent time and sometimes it appears virtually everything can cause one form of cancer or the other. Which one is deadlier? I think Cancer. Cancer kills faster than HIV. An infected HIV person can manage it and live with it for more than 10 years, I have not seen anybody diagnosed of cancer survive it for more than 10 years. Steve Jobs was diagnosed in 2004, and with all his wealth, only managed to live with it for 7 years. HIV is also far more easily preventable than cancer. We have recorded so many cancer deaths in Nigeria in recent time. Tayo Aderinokun(ex-CEO, GTB), Bayo Ligali(ex-CEO, Zain), Ibrahim Jega(ex-ED, UBA and INEC Chair's'immediate younger brother) have all died of cancer in recent time. That said, both are very deadly and we dont pray we or any of our relatives/friends fall victim. But we need to start being conscious of cancer - know the types and the risk factors and try as much as possible to move away from them, for those possible. Eat good foods, know about the contents and value of the food/drinks you take, exercise regularly, do regular medical check-ups. |
Just seeing that this thread has been on since Sept 5 but just making homepage today. Anyway, I'm just getting mine today. I had observed I had problem with seeing while driving but used to dismiss it. Sometime early this month, I was sent on 2 trainings, and in each of those trainings, I realized I can't see the screen from a not-so-far seat. Later, I realized even in my home I find it difficult reading footages on TV screen. I reported to my employers and was given letter to go do eye test since Oct 12. Not so serious with it again, I kept postponing it until today when I took the referral letter to the eye clinic. I was told I was long due for eye glasses, that what have I been doing all this while, as it has gone quite bad. This was like 3 hours ago. I'm on my way back right now to go collect my glasses. |
What a concidence! I'm just about leaving to go collect mine now, having done(and failed) eye test this morning. |
mukina2:Ameerah of NL, should we join them from here? ![]() |
toba:Insha Allah. You're most welcome. It's happening in Kwara. |
LOL Will never mention name. But she does come here. |
I have just a comment: While we thank almighty Allah for guiding uplawal to Islam, we pray He guides her further, for some of her comments in the last few months are beyond my imagination! |
On the topic, well, I set a very high standard for myself but I realized, almost late, that you can't get a perfect partner(one is also far from being perfect, after all). Very long story but I settled down eventually early this year to a Yoruba/Fulani Ilorin queen. Lol And a confession: NL being my online home,I would have married a Nairalander. I met one very intelligent, beautiful Nairaland Muslim female, also from my town, last year. We met physically later and I must admit she swept me off my feet, but it was quite late. So didnt border to make the move. She remains a good, though distant, friend and I once read from one of her posts here that she will also be settling down soon. Alhamdulilah, I am also happily married to the best lady on earth. |
Oh, where have I been? I'm just seeing this explosive thread. |
Eid mubarak to all my Muslim brothers and sisters on NL and beyond. May Allah make us witness many more of it on earth and in good health and eeman. |
Know all, I'm not here to argue about Sanusi, so let's reserve that till another time. Meanwhile, I also disagree with Muttallab making Top 20. He is rich no doubt, having been in banking sector since 70s, from bank MD to Chair, but I strongly doubt he's wealthy enough to make Top 20. Also, I think we're being unfair to Mike Adenuga here. Yes, he may have some powerful backing but in a capitalist economy, you can't do without that else your business will ruin. But you must have worked hard enough to get attention of a powerful govt. I will not criminalize Adenuga even if it's true he flirts with IBB, which I believe is exaggerated. Dangote also flirts with Obj and co but when he came to Lagos in 1978 with his grand dad's loan of 500,000 and became a billionaire 20 years later, he never knew Obj then. Give it to these men. |
No dispute about Dangote and Adenuga being the 2 richest Nigerian businessmen. Otedola used to be very rich few years but he's been badly hit now, reason he didnt appear in latest Forbes' list. He is a kind of emergency Billionaire. But he should still be among Top 7 or 10. Jimoh Ibrahim is not as rich as people. He only talks his way into making people he is that rich. He owes many banks money. Top 20? Maybe though. You underrated Jim Ovia. Jim used to be no 4 after Aliko, Otedola and Mike few years ago. With Otedola in bad times and Jim relatively stable, I'll not be surprised if Jim is now 3. In any case, Jim Ovia is not an ordinary bank MD, he is stupendously wealthy. If you own say 40% of a 3trillion worth bank, for example, then you're not just an ordinary MD. Fola Adeola will not make top 20 richest Nigerians. Though he co-founded and still has reasonable % in GTB plus few other organizations, he is actually not the type that ammassed wealth. Seriously doubt he's among Naija's Top 20. Oba Otudeko also has a place stamped in Top 10. Got a large chunk in FBN plus his Honeywell group that covers oil and gas etc. Plus he is quite conservative and not as aggressive as the young boys of Otedola and co, plus he is also not much into govt flirting; hence his own wealth is more stable. Any list that doesnt put him in Top 10, if not Top 7, will not find my agreement. Sayyu Dantata is also a heavy moneybag, but sometimes people say Dangote finances him, especially with his Texaco downstream acquisition. Well, I know he should be richer than the lousy Jimoh Ibrahim. Top 20? I agree. Old billionaires like Rasaq and Molade Okoya and Prince Adedoyin are being outshone by these small boys now, but the truth is 'if you have clothes like an old, you cant have rags like him'. The men are still deep-pocketed especially in assets all over the world and other hard, long term investments. I doubt they will still make Top 10, except may Rasaq, but there is no disputing their place in Top 25. Your list also omits Isiyaku Rabiu of IRS airline and BUA group. He should make Top 20 too. |
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Wale Tinubu Fola Adeola |
My state, like my kinsman Op has said earlier, offers a model on how 'northerners' and 'southerners'(the 2 rival regional classifications in the country as a whole) can live together as a whole. The Yorubas co-exist harmoniously with the Fulanis and Nupe. Nigeria can learn from this model and solve it's'inter-tribal/region crises. My state has offered to Nigeria incorruptible men of integrity like Tunde Idi-Agbon, who in just 20 months was turning Nigeria into China. If subsequent regimes followed the footsteps of Buhari/Idi-Agbon, Nigeria would today be the China of Africa. We have gave Nigeria Justice Alfa Belgore, the man that within 6 months reformed Nigerian judiciary before Katsina-Ala started messing it up again. Our men are reformers. We offer Nigeria a model of how meagre resources can be used to achieve reasonable development. Welcome to Kwara - the state of harmony. |
