PulpFactionClub + Wordsmithy Media + Debonair Present: Book ‘n’ Gauge VI: Many Worlds of Two Writers The sixth edition of Book n Gauge is scheduled to hold on November 26, 2011 @ Debonair Bookstore, 294, Herbert Macaulay Way, Sabo, Yaba. 2pm - 5pm. In the month of November, we would be hosting you to two amazing writers, three performers and it’s going to be a blast. We would go on a trip to the many worlds of these writers, the world of their books, their writing world, the human world and of course, the other worlds that they are a part, the worlds that you do not read about behind a novel. Ayodele Arigbabu Writer, Publisher, Architect and businessman, Ayo is always looking for ways to express his creativity. On these many lives, Ayo says “I’m always amazed to find myself to be the only one who is not confused about my ability to wear many hats. I don’t really enjoy introducing myself to people I’m meeting for the first time in public, because when they ask: “so what do you do?” and I get started, the look of consternation on their faces makes me want to talk about something else. I’ve learnt not to get worried anymore about other people being worried about me going all out, in my own little way, to live my life to the hilt. I’m more worried now that so many people out there are living such plain linear lives….sheesh! They don’t know what they’re missing!” Ebi Akpeti Ebi Akpeti is the author of The Perfect Church which was adapted for the big screen and television by Wale Adenuga Productions; it features Nollywood stars starring Ramsey Noah, Olu Jacobs and Funke Akindele. For her journalism, she has won awards lik the Capital Market Reporter of the year by the prestigious Nigerian Media Merit Award NMMA Award (NMMA) for her story "Trigger for Fraud." Ebi decided she had a thing for fiction and decided to put pen to paper and see what pans out of it. She released Growing Pains in 2006 and later on, she wrote and a book titled Castrated, which was used by the inaugural class of the Masters Students of Pan African University Lagos for their Creative Writing course. This contributor to several magazines is passionate about writing. Good one, OlowoTee and Ifyalways. May God reward you for your efforts. Wish I was part of these good gestures physically. My place to that end is just too far, esp with the crazy Egbeda/Iyana Ipaja traffic I experienced last time. I just received another 10k alert, bringing Total Naija Contribution to 176,000. 90k already in use. |
10K alert gotten. Guess it's Vicjustice. Many thanks. This brings the total contribution in Naija to N166,000, out of which 90k has been handed over to Ifyalways/Olowotee to organize accommodation plus decent furnishing for them, hopefully before the week runs out. They will report back to us here. |

Sorry guys, being extremely busy today. Most likely, the accommodation and decent furnishing will be sealed in the next couple of days. I am in touch with Ifyalways and Olowotee to make the move. We will keep you folks informed. Meanwhile, we still welcome more donations. Altogether, we have something in the region of 230k in both accounts, and we have yet to reach our initial 300k budget, a target we plan to exceed. |
sheriffman:Received. Balance in Naija a/c now: N156,000. |
Our efforts just receive a big boost as I just got an alert that Nairalander JOAGBAJE has made a contribution of 100k, bringing the balance in Naija a/c to N153,000. I nominate him for GCON a la Dangote. Lol. Good one man, now we are good to go. More donations are welcome, no matter how small, anonymous or donor named. |
Sorry guys, been busy offline: Update on Naija Contributions; 1, Charcover - 10k 2, 9ijaman - 10k 3, Phemmy - 10k 4, Militia Dewdrops - 15k 5, Anonymous - 3k 6, Anonymous - 5k BALANCE: 53K No amount is too small, even 1k. You have option of declaring yourself anonymous or telling us to announce you as anonymous. |
Majority of the people around me were born September and October, with October slightly more. April is another month I know many people born in. I was the only one born in August in my family and I know just few people also born in that month(but they are famous personalities - Obama, MKO Abiola, IBB etc) This is my long-held observation. Interestingly, all these are being confirmed here as I can see October is leading with September and April also having good showing, while August is almost the least, all confirming my guesses! |
Apologies I've not posted here since yesterday. Ifyalways has reported all what happened though. Alert of 15k got from Dewdrops now. Total Contribution to date(Nigeria): N45,000 |
Igodomido don kolo patapata. Lol |
Gluckdude:Thank God, I never 'payed' attention to your kind of English teacher! Well, in layman terms, what I'm telling you is: if PHCN is sold, you don't need anybody in Abuja to tell you, such news would easily spread like fire, and you would not need to ask before knowing. Even the market woman will know Dangote has bought NEPA. The illiterate NEPA staff heard, probably from Alaroye, the noise about Dangote( his GCON honour debate) and thought it meant he had bought his place of work. |
ifyalways:Done. |
Aussie:Oh, how can I forget Fayemi? I concur with this. When I listened to him or Channels couple of months, his command of the language and coherence were spell-binding. He speaks better English than Fashola, but Fashola knocks him out in body language and conviction. |
Ifyalways, Can I join you for the Sunday visit? Do you still have my mobile number? |
One illiterate NEPA staff that doesn't know jack told you Dangote has bought PHCN and you swallowed it. If you don't read newspapers or watch news on TV, you at least come to this section of NL. And you think PHCN would have been sold without it making front page, even here? Well, although revamping PHCN to make it efficient remains the best in the interest of the masses, we all know that Naija government can never make it work again. I will therefore support its sale to Wale Tinubu, Dangote or Adenuga in that order. Adenuga would have been the best to turn to turn it around but I have misgivings about his people management style. He cares too less for people. Dangote is a little better but I think he is proven more in manufacturing. The young man Wale Tinubu can turn it around. |
Yeah, I also listened to him and he was impressive, but Fashola still ahead of him. |
I still listened to Fashola discussing Lagos tenancy law couple of weeks ago and the man impressed me. He doesn't speak britico/fone English but his choice of word was superb. He demonstrated solid knowledge of the subject, he handled every question asked him well, the interviewer was never able to box him to corner, his presentation was very persuasive. Even his body language showed one that knew what he was saying, not just somebody uttering some political talks. Give it to that man. |
I have received three 10k donationas, so I have 30k here. |
I've not listened to all of them but Fashola has impressed the most from all governors I have listened to. |

This precisely summarizes all my arguments on threads on this subject since I joined NL some 4 years ago. A lot of students first defeat themselves mentally; hey, you cannot make a First Class, they will deny you bla bla. I, for one, dont believe First Class is given anywhere, it is earned. What I agree with is different conditions in different schools may contribute to how stress-freely one will make it. Most students kill themselves mentally right from year 1. Some people, like Luvola here, feed you with different tales that 'hey, in the history of this school, nobody has made it, so no matter what you do, you can never make it bla bla' and the innocent Jambite becomes demotivated. You hear all these kinds of tales everywhere. In fact, I remember in my secondary school days, shortly before our SSCE, we heard that 'WAEC wont give you A1 in English because it meant you know everything in English and it's not possible' Although I didn't make A1 in English, I saw my mates that made it. Also, when I started my ICAN exams, I heard all kinds of stories that ICAN deliberately fail people. This is teh biggest lie I have ever heard in my life. It's a lie, pure lie. ICAN will never fail you if you score 50% or more. So tales like these abound being peddled by some lazy students. |
