No reason. We had females in attendancin 2008 and 2009, but none attended in Island edition 2011; maybe we will see in mainland edition coming up this Saturday insha Allah. |
Op would have done better reporting this in the 'complaints thread' rather than open a new thread to complain. I did not do the moving. Probably other authorities did, and mistakenly dropped into Foreign affairs, instead of Tribalism section. Not being a mod in 'foreign affairs section' I will not be able to move it out of there to the right section but will contact the supermod to move it to the right section. Our apologies for the error. |
pappykay1:You're welcome. All are invited, male, female, anybody, we have even had a Christian Nairalander(my friend) attending in the past. Some of us even bring our non-Nairalander friends. |

Dear All, Pulpfaction Book Club is kicking off its non-fiction reading group to cater to the broad reading taste of club members and Lagos Literatis. To flag off its inaugural meeting, the club will host Mr Olufemi Ogunsanwo, author of the book ‘Awo: Unfinished Greatness’ (find synopsis for the the book below) for a discussion of his book. The non fiction group is a closed group that will admit 30 people who will commit to reading selected works of non-fiction (Biography, Politics, Management, Leadership , History, Memoirs and Autobiography) and be available for monthly discussions with other group members. The inaugural discussion will hold on Saturday 20th August, 2011 between the hours of 3-5pm. The venue of the event will be disclosed on indication of interest. Copies of the book ‘Awo: Unfinished Greatness’ can be procured in fine bookstores around you. Alternatively, the Club can also deliver copies to interested persons. You can reach ‘Damola on 07032487012 for enquiries. Synopsis In all his forty years in Nigerian politics, the essential Awo remained the same – a man magnificently gifted, charismatic, competent; Nigeria’s best finance minister to date … a leader possessed of great foresight … a sage, a statesman, a genius. Chief Obafemi Oyeniyi Awolowo etched his egalitarian standard on the political landscape of Nigeria as premier of the Western Region and carved his niche in “progressive” politics on a plateau which future practitioners of the game will have to ascend to draw inspiration one hundred years from now. He was a legend in his own lifetime. This book, about his career from 1947 to 1987, testifies to his high profile and pedigree. In eight years, he transformed the economy of the Western Nigeria into the “El Dorado” of West Africa. He brought the first television network to Africa’s footstep in 1959 before quitting office voluntarily. No leader in Nigeria has come close to his record of service to his nation since his death in 1987. Twenty years after, his immortal legacy is still the yardstick for measuring political correctness in his country About the author The author, Olufemi Ogunsanwo, grew up in Lagos with primary education at Holy Cross School, attended King’s College, Lagos, and is a Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) graduate of Oxford studied journalism at Columbia Universittty, New York. A former political editor with the Daily Times of Nigeria, he lives a quiet literary life in Abuja, the federal capital city. His other books include General Yakubu Gowon – The Supreme Commander; The Sunday Times – the first 25 years; and his own memoir, Baptism of Fire. |
RoadStar:I get your point. |
Becomrich, when did you turn Igbo? Who gave you Uche? Abi that one na Benin name? |
Demdem: ![]() Very soon, when one claims he shits, people will start asking him for link. ![]() |
RoadStar:First, there are a lot of other information I have about Sanusi(how he wept when he discovered the scale of corruption in the system on assumption of office etc) but if there is no need to use them, I will not. On this issue of Arabic letters, I had known it was a lie for long but kept quiet, not wanting to appear as defending him in every matter but when I realized it’s spreading so fast and supposedly highly rated analysts are also falling victim of truth assumption by popularity, carelessly quoting it, it became too disgusting for me to keep quiet on. Also, I am not the only Nairalander with passion for a personality(what my friend, Mbulela called me hero-worshipper for since 2009 ). Make a critical statement about Mike Adenuga and smoke Zombie out, criticize GEJ and incur Beaf’s wrath etc. So what have I done special?May I add, too, that Sanusi is one of my role models(we share same passion in writing and intervening in public affairs, discarding one’s corporate veil, even though I’m still an amateur), far before he became CBN boss, as this March 2009 thread can attest to: So when you believe in someone, why hide it: And the pabambari of it all is that if some people’s business here is to criticize every move he makes, giving them fire for fire is not out of place, especially when they resort to clear lies, which this ‘arabic lettering’ point is. |
DrummaBoy:I made an assertion and challenged landers with contrary view to prove me wrong, and you're asking me for link? Link to my mouth? Or Did I say any 2nd or 3rd party said anything? |
A lie, when told repeatedly, becomes truth – to the gullible at least. So they say, if I get the quote right. Everyday, new lies are being fabricated against CBN governor Lamido Sanusi. One of such in recent time is that he has re-introduced Arabic letterings to the Naira note. This lie from the pit of hell, unfortunately, has been swallowed by multitude, without bothering to confirm. Sanusi has not introduced a single new letter or symbol, Arabic, English or whatever, to our currency. Soludo removed the Arabic lettering in notes less than N100, he never did for N100 and above. This is still the same today. It is a great pity that people will resort to lies and blackmail to bring down people. If one pardons the Nairalanders that spread this lie and even Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor that initiated the false alarm, one cannot pardon highly rated columnists like Opeyemi Agbaje(Businessday) and Dr Anele(Punch) who made reference to this in their columns without verifying. I have challenged both of them anyway, and while one said he was only quoting Sanusi’s critics, the other could not defend his comment. I put this challenge to Nairalanders that quote this too, to prove that Sanusi returned Arabic letterings to our Naira. Anybody that has contrary evidence can bring it forth. For something that can be easily verified, how someone can wake up one day, fabricate a lie about it and millions of people swallow it, if not for mischief, is beyond me! |
I hope it's not palm oil sha |
Ope o. Let me start pressing the button to become Kwara state commissioner for petroleum resources ![]() |
Great first half display by Naija boys, but goal, and not display, is the language of the game. I'm still afraid. Tactics may make the difference in the second half. |
With more and more people from different sources confirming they have heard that Ladi was better than Martins, it can be concluded that, at least, there was a time many people believed Ladi was the better players. Different sources cannot be all wrong. |
Thanks for that more enlightened perspective, chamber. |
jaytime:i agreeno big deal in becoming a columnist, but disagree anybody can. To be a columnist in a national newspaper, apart from having good writing skills, you must be versed in both current affairs and history, as well as wide read, else your column will be shallow and amateurish. when you write a sentence, you have to be sure of your fact because millions of people will be reading it. If you're a young journalist, like under40, you have to do a lot of research on 100 years history. without all thse, you column will just come across as shallow. this is why a person like obasanjo, not only an ancyclopedia of history but also a seen-it-all part of Nigeria's history, participant in many historical events like independence, biafra war, and military politicsfrom 60s to date, will make a good columnist if he can articulate his message well. |
We are not bashing one another. I agree fredoo knows what he is saying, but like youu said judgment on who is btter is subjective. I have met people that know them saying Ladi was a better player and Fredoo said Obafemi is. No problems. Different people, different conclusion. |
I hated Accounting like shit in secondary school (although I had B3 in it in. WAEC- reading it to pass is not a problem actually, but I just hated it) Same in university. Where I had options, I avoided it by opting for another elective(thankfully, accoounting courses are optional in Econs dept in Ife. But while doing my SSCE, I just decided to write ICAN, just to garnish my CV. I won overall best prize as well as best candidate in 2 out of the 3 subjects in foundation level then. Interestingly, it was only that ICAN foundation (plus my clinching prize and less, my Econs degree) that got me my first job after NYSC - an accounting job. I wrote other stages on my job and eventually qualified. The irony however is, although I now an ICAN certificate plus 3+ years accounting experience, I still dont like accounting job. Economics remains my first love. |
First degree in Economics from OAU + Chartered Accountant. Worked as Tax and FIxed Asset Accountant is the downstream arm of an oil and gas group, but now in Payables(Transporters) unit of same company. |
