Vigilante:
I am sure if you ask Mr. Simon about nairaland, he'll ask naira what? Let's not be overally patronizing.
You missed it. Nairaland is very well known among Nigerian journalists and editors. In fact, any Nigerian editor that doesn't know NL, has not been doing enough internet research. Joseph Adeyeye, the former editor of Saturday Punch expressly mentioned NL in one of his column writings some two years ago. Pius Adesanmi, teh popular NEXT and SR columnist has also mentioned NL in his writings in the past. Dele Momodu also knows here very well, and I have discussed NL with him in the past.

I can confidently say Simon Kolawole knows NL and there is a 90% likelihood that he meant NL in that article.

When I was reading Simon's column yesterday, the same thought came to mind - I knew he meant our dear NL. I was even about sending a mail to him on that issue now, when I came across thsi thread.

If I were Buhari, Ribadu or Shekarau, I will show up for this debate. But I don't see their pulling out as out of order. Agreeing that only BON, government's official broadcasting medium, should be the sole organiser gives room for suspicion. How can BOn convince us that they have not given the questions to the president ahead? How can they prove to us that there has not been threat by FG to BON, its agency, that they risk losing their job they give the president tough time?
Politics › Re: Governors Of 19 Nigerian States Under Buhari - Most Are Millionaires Now. by Jarus(m): 12:34pm On Mar 24, 2011
Now the debate is getting ridiculous. After spending millions to 'demystify' Buhari's incorruptibility, this is how low anti-Buhari elements have sunk. Digging out baseless fictions, all to put 'corruption' and Buhari in same sentence. Na wa o.

But it is another failed attempt.

First, most of these guys, like somebody mentioned up there, did not retire with Buhari. They went further to become Major Generals, AVM, Admirals etc, some held various other positions subsequently, some even became members of IBB's AFRC, Abacha's PRC etc later.

Now, let me take the ones I know quite much about one by one.
Anambra
Allison Madueke - was still in army till 1994, 9 years post-Buhari, went on become CNS under Abacha, sacked for backing MKO's release. How then was his 1.5 years as Buhari's governor responsible for his wealth, even he has?

Bauchi
Mohammed Sani Sami - Was still in army till 1990, 5 years into IBB's regime, later became emir. Not known for stupendous wealth.

Bendel
Jeremiah Useni - If he stole, definitely it is more logical to attribute it to his Abacha days as FCT minister and 4th highest ranking soldier, than his stint as governor under Buhari.

Benue
John Kpera - He was governor for 2 years under Obj's militray government. Retired with Buhari. Not known to be extremely wealthy than an average General.

Borno
Abubakar Waziri - when last did u hear his name? Btw, was governor under Obj too.

Cross River
Dan Archibong - Died in 1990. Yet Op is saying he is a millionaire now. Do you know where his wealth is? n

Gongola
Mohammed Jega - Now an emir. Know little about him or his wealth.

Imo
Ike Nwachukwu - Highest ranking igbo officer post Biafra. Not known to be richer than an average general

Kaduna
Usman Mu'azu - This one is a family friend. He has been Chairman of a number of companies since retirement and you don't expect a company Chairman to be poor.

Kano
Hamza Abdullahi - was governor and later minister under IBB too. So what proof is there to show he enriched himself under Buhari, that is eveven if he

Kwara
Salaudeen Latinwo - I know this one personally. Same alma mater(secondary school), same town. A strict disciplarian like Buhari himself. His house is as modest as little Jarus' own. He will not rank among the Top 50 richest men in my community.

Lagos
Gbolahan Mudasiru - Died almost wretched. I know his children. His son, now DMD of a popular investment company, struggled on his own to get to where he is today. In fact his monthly pay when he was in his former company before joining friends to establish their own company, was less than 250k per month. And that was as recently as 2003, even when his father was still alive. Only few ex-governors' children has this kind of tale.

Niger
David Mark - he has been in government since 70s, before and after Buhari. So saying he made his wealth during Buhari's 1.5 years government can only be as laughable as it comes.

Ogun
Oladipo Diya - Became No 2 to Nigeria's most corrupt Head of State ever. Nuff said, if he is truly wealthy. But nothing in his lifestyle has shown he is stupendously rich.

Ondo
Michael Bamidele Otiko

Oyo
Oladayo Popoola - Went on to become Major General under IBB. Now dead. Was governor under IBB too.

Plateau
Samuel Atukum - Can't even remember ever coming across this name.

Rivers
Fidelis Oyakhilome - Gone into obscurity long time ago. Nfar from being known for wealth.

Sokoto
Garba Duba - Not known to be extremely rich

He needed a bulldozer like Tinubu not just a noise maker like BAkare. Except we are deceiving ourselves he needs money which Tinubu and Fola has in abundance.
If Buhari took Tinubu, 2 deadly issues will come up against Buhari's ambition.

1, Muslim-Muslim ticket. Many people will further see Buhari as an Islamic bigot
2, Opposition will use the choice of Tinubu(whose inetgrity many people doubt) to criticize Buhari's famous anti-corruption credential

Politics › As Nairaland Politics Section Strategizes For Elections by Jarus(op): 10:37am On Mar 22, 2011
Dear forum members,

We thank everybody - both the contributors and the inactive watchers - for making this place one of the go-tos for political analysis in Nigeria.
Elections are around the corner, and political activities, and the consequent political discussions, will definitely be at their heights around this period.
We expect high traffic to this place; we expect more people to join this forum in the process of exploring the internet for their political activities; we also expect voluntary and commissioned PR workers of parties and candidates to come to this place to sell their political personalities; the anonymity offered by this forum also presents opportunity for many Nigerians to express themselves on politics Nigeriana. So all in all, this forum needs to be prepared for this surge as it continues to stamp itself as the hub of informal online discussions in Nigeria and beyond.

To this end, we wish to remind respected members of this section that as political talks reach its peak during this period, we should not forget the forum rules, which we agreed to abide by while signing up here.

Within the framework of those rules, we should remind ourselves that in the process of selling our political ideas/personalities or criticizing others', we should not descend to throwing insults, peddling unsubstantiable information with no credible source, multiplying threads etc. You are therefore advised to search or browse through the first few pages to see whether a news has been reported as thread before opening such thread to avoid undue multiplication of threads. If it's same story but different newspaper accounts, just paste your own source's account inside the thread and back it up with your source. You are also free to change the title of a news story to pass your own message while titling a thread, but the title should be supported by the content of the story, if not we will retitle the thread, and if intentionally malicious, the poster risks ban.

We also invite informed analysts to open threads to analyse political situations/trends. On our own part, we will continue to open, in official capacity, general threads on polls, open debates and other interesting analyses to make this section thick during this peak period of politics. But this doesn't preclude us from opening threads, in personal capacity, on our personal political beliefs. We presume forum members are discerning enough to differentiate between personal and official threads/opinion. For instance, telling someone this thread is official, we believe, is spoonfeeding. This we believe is no brainer for nairalanders, whom we believe are educated, no matter the level. But to avoid risk of confusion, we will still expressly state in our threads which ones are personal.

Also, we will welcome hot, on-the-scene reports and photographs during election periods. We will also keep tabs on breaking news. We will be on the alert to send to the front page hot news from time to time. All to ensure we make this place an assured destination for updates in these election period.

While we, once again, assure you of our fairness and level playing ground, irrespective of political persuasion, during this period and forever, we appeal to you to cooperate with us by being rule abiding. The authorities shall not hesitate to punish erring members during this period too.

Don't forget to use the 'report to mod' button or 'Complaints' threads to reach us, should you have any grievance or suggestion to pass across to us.

Regards,
Jarus & Aisha2

Politics › Re: Utomi: Jonathan Spends N100m Of Taxpayer Money Daily On Election Campaign by Jarus(m): 8:21pm On Mar 21, 2011
@those arguing about taxes
If you work in a medium to big company in Nigeria, you can't escape Tax.
If your company publishes its accounts, it can't escape Tax.

I handle tax for my company, and we paid close to N2billion as corporate tax in 2010, and that's just one subsidiary, the group paid close to 10bn as tax last year.

Dangote group pay close to 50billion as Tax.

By the way, I read in papers a couple of weeks ago a statement credited to Omogui, FIRS boss, that they raked 1 trillion plus as Tax in 2010.

So the government still rakes in a lot in Taxes, so using 'taxpayers' money' to mean 'collective wealth' as Pat did is in order.

I am glad you responded though you went on and on and on belligerently but failed to bring your arrogance in check!Arrogance that stemed from your penchant to bully your point that belittles your authority as a moderator.
Nowhere did I raise doubt on your freedom to exercise your right as a person,my disagreement is your failure to seperate your view as a person and your view/role as a moderator!I have raised very scientific points which if only you patiently ponder, you will see that your endorsement of a particular candidate will not go unnoticed and would most likely dictate how you moderate not only your view(which facts suggests is partisan) but ours as well!
As I scientist,I understand that a 'blank' is used to caliberate all scientific instrument in order to obtain accurate results. What is the morale in you who holds the key to this section, empowered to MODERATE VIEWS be seen to be fair when you are nakedly partisan.Your views when expressed as a differnt username would have helped you a lot in a fair assessment this kind of political issue.
It would have helped you not to portray nairaland as promoting a particular candidate and others would come to appreciate your views more. It's just like Seun doing what you are doing now,it would be interpreted as being partisan.
Now,on your delusion about buharimania,I am an active visitor to the sites you mentioned and I know notime,i mean,no time, did Sahara promote buhari more than Nuhu Ribadu, infact, there are more archived records of Ribadu more than buhari!
Now to facts on the ground,I am on the ground monitoring peoples view/perception of BB,the team is not,I repeat not popular in the south despite cyber-effort to give wrong impression to those in the diaspora. No single cpc poster for any other elective posts have i seen in Lagos! Is it that bad that even the NCP,even have candidates, even the newly formed SDMP,pat utomi's party still have Yeni Ransome-kuti posters all over lagos island not cpc and you give wrong impression that Buhari's fame is rising! If its that popular, how come no single gubernatorial candidate of the cpc in the south is popular or known whereas Ribadu's ACN has popular candidates all over Nigeria! You must not discount the role played by other contestants in the mobilisation of voters, that Buhari has failed to create such structure in the south will significantly reduce his outing in this coming election.
Politics is a game of number and as things stand,I am telling you as a matter of fact, the Buhari candidature is already a failure in the south!Ribadu is a better political prospect than Buhari and you will soon find out.
The same way Jonathan stepped down from being president of Nigeria because he is meant to be fair to every Nigerian, whether PDP or not, or why Fashola did not identify with ACN because he is the leader of everybody in Lagos, ACN or not.

My wife is a serving corps member. She didn't participate in NYSC/INEC voters registration, so she registered as a voter. She wanted to take part in elections as INEC officer but I have told her by doing that she will not be eligible to vote, making Buhari lose one vote. So I asked her to vote, and not take part in INEC/NYSC which will disqualify her from voting. Now, because of her 1 vote for Buhari, she will gladly miss the 40k allowance for corpers that participate. Her one vote counts.

Knowing NL quite well, having been here for a while, I have become familiar with all shades of reasonings here - the intelligent and the otherwise. Clearly, for the latter, the only workable option is to ignore, as the Yoruba proverb says 'you don't argue with a fool'. But, somehow, I have decided to be responding to every accusation levelled against, even if it doesn't worth it.

When I was given this section to co-run in August last year, far before the presidential political frenzy entered top gear, I stated the below in my thread: TOWARDS A BETTER SECTION:

1, PERSONAL VIEWS: Like any other person, I have my personal views on varying issues. Being a Mod will not make me drop these views, but I promise not to use my position to suppress dissenting views or impartially promote my personal views. Having engaged in various discussions on this section in the last 3 years, most of my takes on issues are well known, notably approval of current CBN reforms with only a few reservations; advocate of one Nigeria and disbeliever in split as solution; belief that North  and South are both guilty of teh current mess the country is in; and many other personal opinions which are well known here. But will I use my Mod status to promote these views? No. I will continue to engage in discussions, marshaling my views on neutral ground. So my good friend, Naijaking, you are safe lol. It is also good to clarify here that I am a Muslim, and in fact the Mod of Muslims section for over a year, but I guarantee fairness to everybody irrespective of religious or ideological persuasion.
Jarus, August 03, 2010
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-490739.0.html

What, for crying out loud, is wrong in a moderator expressing political views? Am I INEC? Am I teh one to conduct election?
I am a stakeholder in the Nigerian project and I have every right to identify with any political group/ideology/personality. I become partial when I use Mod privilege to the detriment of another candidate or unjustly use it to the favour of my candidate, which nobody has been able to prove here.
Can you point to any Buhari thread I give special status like stickying?

Your other allegations are as lugubrious as they come. Any nairalander that has to look at what another person says or the opinions of another person to form his/her own opinion is far from mature and doesn't fit to talk where politics are being discussed, NL or elsewhere. I'm flattered that you made me know that some people exist here that look forward to me to form opinion. Such people need lessons in independent reasoning. Well, you made me feel happy that I mould people's opinions here, in as much as it's not by force, but by respect, I'm happy with that status.

How a mature person can be afraid of expressing contrary views to that of Mod in an online forum is beyond my imagination, honestly.
It may interest you also that I don't have power to ban or even promote a topic to front page. All these are done by Admin and Supermod at their informed discretion. Anyway, the Supermod that does most of these is not a Nigerian, not to talk of having political bias. And the Seun I know will not use his forum against anybody.

It may also interest you that Buharimania is the other of the day in order political fora across teh country. From newspaper sites to SaharaReporters, Nigeria Village Square and other forums, the discussion is all on Buhari. Am I the one influencing those places too?

Let's try to up our reasoning, guys.

@Poster

The threats of violence in the North, stoning of the Presidential convoy and the shouts of "Sai Buhari" has nothing to do with politics of idealogy. It is rather religious and ethinic politics taking to a new height. The Northern political leaders have played the devils advocate; that Jonathan has "taken" what belongs to them and therefore must pay. Then enters Buhari.

"Buhari is seen by the the Northerners as their "Messiah" who will wrestle the power from the infidel back to the "believers". It is actually an insult for an infidel to rule over them. I am really suprised that many are carried away by the "Sai Buhari" chants as if it is prgressive".

Whether we like it or not, Nigeria is too complex a country; Religion and ethinic sentiments are the highest points of our politicing. We are actually wasting our time thinking that Nigeria will move forward. We are only postponing the evil day. Nigeria is not one country, has never been one and will never be one.

The Northern minorities and northern residents from other regions are going to vote for Jonathan. The same thing will happen in the West. Now, despite the "Sai Buhari" chants, Mr President will still win this election, free and fair and the "Sai Buhari" movement will maim, kill, burn, loot, etc. Maybe, the military will take over, maybe Jonathan will be killed, maybe Nigeria will really burn, maybe Biafra will rise to fall no more.

My advice is this: Southerneres in the North, please be vigilant.
I beg to disagree. Why don't they queue behind Atiku, IBB, Ciroma and other northern elite like that?
