BEAF: He was strongly considered while the original list was being drawn last year but he was still somehow a newbie then, having just joined mid-2009. But between March 2010 and March 2011, he held the entire Politics section by storm. He was easily teh second most popular personality in that section after Becomrich. He has also been extremely consistent. Being a regular guest of banning authorities, Beaf may not be a gentleman and not friend of we NL management, but there is no disputing the fact that if he leaves today, two years on, comers to that section will know one man under teh moniker Beaf once bestrode thsi space. Welcome beaf to NL Hall of Fame!!!

I need your nominations and suggestions pls, especially in sections I know little about. Back your nominations with proofs pls.
9 more to be decided between now and March 15.

As NL clocks 6 and this thread clocks 1, we want to induct 10 more people and have 60 MEN AND WOMEN THAT MOVED NL 2005-2011

So begin to nominate

1, Anybody who deserves to be there but was omitted last year, or
2, Anybody that, though didn't have the records to make it in 2010, but has done enough between March 2010 and March 2011 to make the list now

Start nominating.

Nomination ends March 15, 2011

Politics › Even At Pdp Rallies, It's Sai Buhari! by Jarus(op): 6:53pm On Mar 09, 2011
Buhari slogan takes over Gombe PDP rally Tuesday, 08 March 2011 19:15 administrator    .From Auwal Ahmad, Gombe

Slogans for Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday took over the campaign venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Bojoga, Gombe state, at the expense of its own candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan.
The chants began the moment all speakers, especially the party’s candidates mounted the podium. While the candidates were shouting the PDP slogans, the crowd responded with the shout of  “Nigeria sai Buhari!” ( meaning Nigeria Only Buhari!)  for the presidency.
However, for other offices, the crowd chanted in support for the PDP candidates.
Even when the state Governor, Danjuma Goje and the party’s gubernatorial candidate Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo mounted the podium, it was the same response of “ Nigeria sai Buhari!” to the amazement of all that gathered at the Bajoga township stadium.
When the state Governor shouted “Gombe,” the crowd replied with “sai Dankwambo” but when he shouted “Nigeria,” the crowd responded with “Sai Buhari!” for more than three times.
All the candidates, especially for the governorship and senate seats, in their campaign speeches called on the people to vote for the entire PDP candidates, including President Jonathan, however got a negative response.
While leaving the venue, the campaign posters of Buhari were seen in virtually all the place, to the consternation of the top PDP members.
http://www.peoplesdaily-online.com/politics/politics-today/7765-buhari-slogan-takes-over-gombe-pdp-rally

In Kano it's 'Sai Kwakwanso(PDP) Kano, Sai Buhari Naijiriya'
Now Gombe. Good to know that in presidential elections, even PDP people will vote Buhari. With Gombe, Bauchi, Borno in the basket for Buhari, even North East may return more than what analysts predicted. With like 85% in NW and NE tilting towards 75% for Buhari, Buhari's chance continues to brighten by teh day.

I keep seeing PH being referred to as 2nd largest city in Nigeria. I do go to PH and if what you define largeness by population, which is what is relevant here, then I can say without hesitation that after Lagos, at least Kano and Ibadan are more populated than PH, even Kaduna will give it a run for its money, leaving it to struggle for 4th or 5th spot. In fact given what I do see in PH, even Ilorin will give it a run for its money.
Politics › Re: Buhari Has Shocked Me, Destroyed CPC by Jarus(m): 8:10am On Mar 06, 2011
First, how are we sure he was the one that actually won? Because anybody can cry foul if he loses. After all, even Femi Pedro that gathered less than 50,000 votes in Lagos in 2007 claimed he won but was rigged out by CAN where Fashola had almost a million votes?

Second, there is a limit to which Buhari can do. Yes he formed the party and he is the leader, he still has to watch his interference so as not to turn the party into a one-man party.

3, We only heard from an aggrieved party. We have not heard from the other party. I can easily go out and grant interview and hurl insults against somebody.

4, Which job is the man doing? What's his source of income to be ready to pay 100m as independent million if not one of those rogues that want to ride on Buhari's good name to power to loot
5, We cannot rule out PDP agents and fifth columnists planted in CPC to destroy the party from within.

Odunnu, when does someone become a 'fanatic' for 'selecting'?

“Because I don’t see what PDP as a national party, as a party that is trying to form a government in Lagos State, as a party that formed government at the national level and in at least 27 states in the country, would be celebrating criminality because whatever we may say, the reason Bode went to prison should be condemned by everybody.

“And I have condemned it but he did not go to prison for political offence. If he had been sent to prison for political offence, then he comes back and all his political associates may get round him and PDP must do something noble and wholesome but in this case, PDP as a party must dissociate itself from celebrating criminality
If Obj truly said this, the he earns my respect.

If IBB can deliver Niger to Atiku, then a even more sellable Buhari can go and rest. With Nasarawa, Niger and FCT now sure for BB, people counting North Central as GEJ's stronghold should have a rethink.

agabaI23:
I wish we can discuss politics devoid of ethnicity and religion. I knew about that grudge but being a VP is an advantage to any people and it is celebrated. But if they cannot celebrate his new position because of religion, why will you be shy to bring it in since it is the major factor in this instance. You are jubilating that a state will not vote for a candidate because they were 'betrayed' religiously not due to political reasons. Is that right Jarus? I thought voting would have been based on merit. Now according to you they are going to vote based on religious sentiment which is what you have been against and it still gladdens your heart. . . Right?
No, I'm not jubilating, I just did my analysis based on reality, which was glaring. Will I say because the reason is not sound enough, I'll be blind to it? Will I say all is well with Kaduna North people and Sambo because what they are nursing against one another is less than noble? Does saying what is obvious amount to endorsement?

And where you shot yourself in the leg, you mentioned 'southern Kaduna' factor? What is motivating the Southern Kaduna people if not because Yakowa(current PDP governor) is one of their own(ethnicity) and GEJ is a Christian(religion)? Southern Kaduna factor, like the northern Kaduna factor, is nothing but religion and ethnicity. And in the final analysis, teh northern Kaduna, based on theri numerical strenght, are carrying the day.

It's no endorsement, it's a statement of reality, of fact.

grin grin grin

On a serious note I agree KATSINA will be almost impossible for GEJ , but Kaduna should not. Yes Buhari has his following there, but remember that YAKOWA and to some extent Sambo's career depend on their ability to deliver KADUNA ,so GEJ should have a good showing there.
GEJ will definitely put up a good showing in Kaduna due, not to Sambo, but to Southern Kaduna factor, but even if it's 60-40, Buhari has it. Quote me. Sambo is a lightweight.

agabaI23:
Well I do not have the information you have however I do know that governors do have a lot of influence in elections.
Lets say they see him as a traitor but they have a governor who was his deputy. Do they also see him as a traitor? What % of Northern Kaduna people see him as a traitor?

Lets say that he wins 30% out of the 35% in the south and 30 % of the remaining 65% in the north still love him, then GEJ will have 60%.
Do not forget that Sambo is still Hausa and moslem, two factors that influence the vote of an average core Northerner.
I don't like to discuss politics that border on religion and ethnicity.
But it may interest you to know that the grudge of the northern Kaduna people against Sambo is his betraying them to become VP, paving way for a Christian from Kaduna South, to become governor for the first time. So it's not about his being Muslim or Hausa but allowing to happen what they have always guided against. That's their grudge against him. They see him as a betrayer, as a traitor, because of personal desire to become VP, he left the state in teh hnads of a Christian. That's their grudge against him. Like I have been saying, feelers from there have it that Sambo may not win in his Kaduna registration centre(although he can/should win in his native Zaria compound).

One problem I have with GEJ is romance with all the well know bad guys.
On a second thought I realised that he needs the political structures of these evil guys but still have serious followership to win. IBB has his die hard fans and  Atiku has his own structure and good followership
I do think it is wise for him to accommodate them to win and after which he will leave them for dead on the runway.
#Whether he will be able to do that is a matter for another.
I think he is just being wise. if this assumption is true and he can add some urgency when he gets elected, the he would have done well.
I honestly don't agree with you. I don't believe the end justifies the mean. The mean, like the end, should be clean. This is why Buhari is perhaps the only politician that has refused to join the corrupt men, all because he wanted to become president. GEJ should have steered clear of - or at least must be seen as such - the IBBs, Objs, Iboris, Alams, Tony Anenihs if he truly  wants to be seen as abhorring corruption.
