I'm a detribalized Nigerian. I don't care where you come from. The reason I defend some good northerners is that I hate the widespread belief that nothing good can come from a northerner. That is the mindset of many Nigerians, and I find that disgusting. I believe good men can come from anywhere. I also admire good men from the south(Fashola, Amaechi, Fola Adeola etc).

I'm a pure Yoruba, half-Kwara, half-Osun.
Politics › Iyabo, Bankole, Omisore Gone. Cpc Won Aso Rock Polling Booth. by Jarus(op): 9:28pm On Apr 09, 2011
This is confirmed in an exchange I had from the editor of a popular newspaper now. He also confirmed CPC won at Aso rock polling booth.

This is very surprising and interesting. Who can believe that Obasanjo can lose? Jega is doing a great job, for the first time, election is counting in Nigeria.

Today i discovered that because of the Ngige effect, many unenlightened voters were voting ACN in house of reps thinking they were voting ngige.
Unless PDP embarks on massive educatiön, ACN will sweep Idemili and many other rural anambra towns.
I'm liking this.

Odootin LGA, Ward 1 Unit 10 senatorial result: ACN = 48, PDP = 129, AD = 1, AP = 2, NCP = 2, APGA = 1
Odootin LGA, Ward 1 Unit 10 Rep result: ACN = 44, PDP = 135, LP = 10, APGA = 1, ANPP = 1.
This is Oyinlola's LG. Good(or is it bad?) to know he delivered his LG to his party.

9ijaMan:
I got this from a friend's post on another forum.:

INEC CODE:  (17/03/01/011) Jigawa State, BK LGA, BK Ward, Polling unit 011:
REPS
ACN:       9
ANPP:     2
CPC:       177
PDP:        71
Others:     0

SENATOR
ACN:          8
ANPP:        3
CPC:          184
PDP:           80
Others:       0
muami:
If this result is represents the voting pattern in Jigawa, then it is good news for GEJ and PDP as PDP performed beyond expectations. The much villified THISDAY POLLS projected a higher margin of victory for CPC in Jigawa. So if PDP is able to get this much vote, then thats really really good news.
CPC will clearly get more than that in Presidential in Jigawa and other northern states. Many PDP members will vote Buhari in teh North. Remember it's 'Sai Buhari' even in PDP rallies.

Politics › Re: In Which Party Are The Yar'adua Cabals?-cpc by Jarus(m): 9:09am On Apr 09, 2011
On the question, how will I see the cabal's actions then as right? Their action was clearly, and I not said discussed it on NL then, I also condemned them on newspaper pages.

Now, what else do u want Buhari to do, when court says Abacha is CPC candidate? Do u want him to flout court order? Even till today, Buhari, in all his Kano rallies, refused to raise Abacha's hands in Kano as state guber candidate? All these show inconvenience with Abacha candidature, not some people that sent a serving minister as rep in the celebration of the release of a thief.

3, I keep hearing Buhari was silent during YRD's illness constitutional crisis. This is pure lie. Buhari, alongside Shagari, was one of the people that first called for the empowering of GEJ as acting president. This was in the news then and well reported. He made the statement after a Council of State meeting.
Politics › Re: In Which Party Are The Yar'adua Cabals?-cpc by Jarus(m): 7:46am On Apr 09, 2011
First, as far as I know, only Mohammed Abacha and some members of YRD's family are in CPC. I'm not aware Taminu is in CPC.

Two, on Abacha, Buhari felt discomfortable having him in his party or contesting under it, he made moves to deny him, but since Abacha family is still loved in Kano and many people, wrongly, still see Abacha as being persecuted unjustly just because other ex-presidents are alive, and some of them did worse. So this sentiment is still in Kano and it was easy for them to vote for Abacha's son as compensation. But what will Buhari do? Moh'd Abacha went to court to challenge his change, and the court ruled in his favour. So where Buhari will catch him is when he gets there and messes up, they can easily mobilize legislature to impeach him(if he steals or commits other impeachable offence).

3, If Tanimu and co are actually in CPC, it's simply due to realization of the power of Buhari's goodwill. There is nothing anybody can do. You cannot reject them, you can only give them extra vigilance.

4, All said, no party in the world has 100% good people just as none as 100% bad. Even in PDP, Rotimi Amaechi stands out. What is important is to have in place a check system. PDP doesn't have, Buhari has promised he will make accountable every elected and appointed person in his party, down to councillor. And Buhari is one that says gaskiya(truth) not some covenant breaker that will sign on No 35 in an agreement and come back to break it.

@Jason, stop spreading falsehood here. There is no state in the North that Yorubas outnumber Ndigbo. Even Gowon, a former head of state claimed that Ndigbo are second to indigenes any where in the north.
Ndigbo and Yorubas are at par in Jos but add up Ndigbo from the South South in Jos, then Ndigbo are more.
I don't know for any other state in the North but in Sokoto, where I traversed during service, Yoruba far outnumber Igbo.

Politics › Re: Yoruba The Golden Bride Of Nigerian Politics by Jarus(m): 8:46pm On Apr 08, 2011
I also think the importance of Yoruba votes in this election stems from teh fact that Yoruba has teh least stake this time around.
Before, the Igbos(plus related minority groups in SS and SE) and the Hausas(and related minority groups in teh north) are always going the same way, perhaps since the NPC/Zik alliance of the late 50's.

So in 1979, the North and their Eastern friends(NPN), did not need Yoruba(UPN) to win; in 1999, the North and East, again, this time around under PDP, installed PDP's Obasanjo, without Yoruba vote(AD).

But this time around the two friends have separated and the war is between them(North Vs East/South-SW), so the factor is SW(Yoruba).

So historically, I will not agree Yoruba has always been teh beautiful bride because presidential elections have always been won without Yoruba votes in the past(UPN 1979, 83 and PDP, 1999). But for the first time, Yoruba vote is weighty enough to determine where the pendulum may swing.
Islam › Re: Struggling To Find Community: An Igbo Convert Story by Jarus(m): 8:34pm On Apr 08, 2011
But don’t shed tears for me, just yet. I have found a small group of converts that I can call on for support. Recently, meeting Ify and her crew has expanded my circle, Alhamduillah. On a Friday night, Ify, her Muslimah friends, and I went out for cupcakes and pizza. We laughed, talked and giggled the night away. As I sat next to these women eating my delicious pizza, I thought to myself “so this is what a community feels like.” Alhamduillah, I think I have found a niche – a niche not based on culture, race or ethnic affiliation. But a niche based on the principles of Islam and the fear of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta ala) alone. Personally, I prefer the latter. Because while friends, family, and strangers may isolate you, the love of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta ala) is so much greater and and more rewarding
Could this be Nairaland's Ifyalways?

I believe South West and North Central are the most key to determining who wins teh presidential election.
SE and SS appear irretrievably locked for GEJ, NW and NE for Buhari. NC appear 50-50 for the two major contenders. SW is still unpredictable, but whoever wins by wide margin there may emerge overall winner.

Folowing from your statement jarus/aisha and all, i think there should be a bit of strategy guiding campaigns/expenses. What jarus is doning so far is fantastic, definately lagos/osun/oyo and the SW states should be in play,
It's not my money o. It's money collectively raised through this thread. We raised 765,000 with somebody putting 500,000.

Our expenses todate are:
Production of English Jingle: 31,500
Production of Yoruba Jingle: 30,000
Wazobia Lagos Jingle(4 slots -05,06 April) 84,270
Wazobia Lagos advert( 8 slots, 07,10, 11,12 April) 167,245
Cool Lagos advert (8 slots, 07, 10, 11, 12 April) 135,548
Wazobia PH (4 slots, 06, 07, 10 April) 73,257
Splash FM Ibadan(6 slots, 10,11,12 April) 120,000
Osun Radio(6 slots, 11, 12, 13 April) 92,000

TOTAL EXPENSES; 733,820
TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS: 765,000
BALANCE AS AT TODAY: 31, 180

More donations will be welcome, so as to reach other areas. I'm particularly planning hitting Kwara with our Yoruba jingle; also I learnt Buhari is gaining momentum in Ibadan, so I think in addition to our already billed English jingle for Ibadan splash FM, we also need to use Yoruba version there. Also, by Tuesday our already paid for slots will be expiring, so we need to extend them to Tuesday and Wednesday next week before 48-hrs rule comes into effect on Thursday/Friday next week.
Politics › Re: Report Your Efforts On Buhari-bakare Team Here by Jarus(op): 11:26am On Apr 08, 2011
The Osun Radio people were hesitant to collect our jingle(opposition party). I'm disappointed in this ACN-controlled state. If it was PDP I'll not be surprised, but with ACN also trying to muzzle opposition in Osun is disappointing.

Anyway, after listening to the content and ensured nothing is offensive there, they reluctantly agreed, but with an extra charge of N1,000 per slot. So in addition to 84,000 I paid yesterday I paid them another 8,000 today. Standard is 10,500 per slot, I don't know why they charged us 1,000 extra, is it because it's not ACN?

I will not like to escalate it, but I'm disappointed in this Osun ACN-controlled radio station.

Anyway, our advert will start running on Osun radio Sunday morning.

He will easily poll 45% at least this time around.

Jingles sponsored by this thread is now on Wazobia FM Lagos, Wazobia FM PH and Cool FM Lagos.

As for Splash FM, Ibadan, I have paid them 120,000 for 6 slots, 2 per day for three days. They said in compliant with the NBC directive, they will not be able to air any political jingle, ours inclusive, Friday and Saturday, and to my surprise on Sunday too. I said no wahala, tehy said it will start on Monday. So expect our jingle on air on Splash FM Ibadan from Monday next week.

Our Yoruba version is also ready, it was played for me and very nice, but I rejected it because they did not describe CPC logo in Yoruba in it. I said, that in fact, was the reason we are doing this advert and we cannot afford not to have our logo described in Yoruba in an ad we will playing in a state like Osun & Oyo where majority of the voters are market women that may not identify 'C', 'P', 'C. I told them since most of these women know umbrella and broom, we need to imprint our logo into their mind too. I'm sure they know Buhari and most can even identify his face, but it's logo that will be on ballot paper. I was a little uneasy with them, and said despite the fact that the ad is very good, the absence of logo decription was inexcusable, so I ordered them to edit it for us describing the logo 'asia t'oni gege laarin'(flag with a pen across).

I have also paid 84,000 for OSBC to air the jingle for us, 2 per day for 4 days.

Politics › It's Not War, It's Election After All by Jarus(op): 8:56pm On Apr 06, 2011
Hmmmnnnn, interesting, actually.

But the way this coming presidential election has polarized Nigerians seems to be unprecedented in the history of this country.

But let's drop our partisan postures for a moment and analyze the situation in the country

I think a number of factors account for the current hysteria:

1, The popularization of social networking sites, leading to increasing interconnectedness across the country, opening avenues to vent out political opinions among the populace, making knowing what's going unavoidable for even the most apathy Nigerian

2, Since the Obama phenomenon globalized electioneering in 2008(where even a cattle rearer in Zamfara or fisherman in Rivers or hunter in Oyo knew there was election in America), this is the first election Nigeria is conducting post-Obama phenomenon, so teh surge in political awareness inspired by Obamamania is still around

3,The zoning quaqmire, the North-South divide, the conservative-progressive dichotomy,

4,The spiritual factor - it's teh reality let's not shy away from it, the God/Religious/miracle/superstition factor attracted a lot of people from both sides, and this increased political participation and fervour

Guys, let's do a non-partisan analysis of the war-like situation in Nigeria today. It's like two almost equally divided camps, one camp at one end of rope, the other group at the other end, struggling, singing, swinging the rope to their side, like a tug of war. After April 16, I'm just imagining what will happen, will we come back together as one again or divided along our pre-election default lines? Will this polarization endure? Is it possible for Beaf and 9ijaman for example to see things from same angle again, say 7 months down the line? Is this current division permanent?

Even many Nairalanders I have known in the past that always sit on the fence, this time around, have clear cut camps? Even Seun, the forum owner, who I have never known to take side(NB:taking side is not na crime), for the first time since I know him, has openly declared the team he is playing for time around?

It's actually interesting and intriguing. Can we have an intellectual/scientific analysis of teh current situation in Nigeria/Nairaland?

Please let's try as much as possible to drop our partisan toga here; let's go to campaign threads to campaign for our candidates or criticize other candidates.
Politics › Re: Rescuing Nigeria: My First 11 by Jarus(op): 7:57pm On Apr 06, 2011
We will have a Buhari as president, instilling discipline and patriotism in the populace, leading by example, making us see reason why Nigeria is our collective project and why we must stay behind to develop it, from the street tailor to the Bank CEO

Bakare to support as VP

Merge ICPC, EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies together and give them to Sanusi, yes Sanusi, to deal with thieves(Nuhu Ribadu appears to have become too soft for that post again)

Deploy Okonjo Iweala to CBN as governor

Establish a Fund a la PTF, give Fashola headship to make oil money work for us, infrastructural revolution

Give Fola Adeola Finance ministry to complement Okonjo

Femi Falana as AG and Justice minister

Deploy Rotimi Amaechi to maybe Works & Housing ministry, to work with Fashola in infrastructural revolution

Give us a Pat Utomi Senate presidency, and kickstart an idea-based National Assembly, where issues will be intellectually laid bare.

Set up a team to come with a long term planning recommendation for Nigera, and give headship to Atedo Peterside.

A Nuhu Ribadu speakership will also ice the cake.

With a massive, practical re-orientation, driven by these men, it will be easy for teh populace to support, and the patritism trickles down.
Politics › Rescuing Nigeria: My First 11 by Jarus(op): 7:45pm On Apr 06, 2011
I honestly believe if we have a Buhari presidency with role for the other 10, these men will turn Nigeria around in 4 years:

1, Muhammadu Buhari
2, Tunde Bakare
3, Nuhu Ribadu
4, Fola Adeola
5, Lamido Sanusi
6, Okonjo Iweala
7, Raji Fashola
8, Rotimi Amaechi(still a good administrator despite being in PDP)
9, Atedo Peterside
10, Pat Utomi
11, Femi Falana
