Why the fuss about obama's choice of Ghana? Must he visit Nigeria? He didn't visit kenya, his origin, neither did he choose South Africa, a country with more credible standing in international community(thanks to Mandela). I'm still struggling to fathom why we Nigerians want to commit suicide because Obama did not visit our country.

For every Abuzola, there has always been a neotic dat equally resorts 2 name calling & aggression in arguments. I'm not siding Abuzola, but I just want u 2 appreciate d fact dat d same way u feel on Abuzola's outbursts, some oda pple feel about d outbursts of noetic, davidylan & co. FYI, however, we av warned Abuzola several times against uttering inflammatory remarks, but shd emulate Olabs, who is usually on d defensive, rather dan being offensive. Islam › Section Clean Up by Jarus(op): 8:54pm On Jul 11, 2009
Bismillahi Rahmanir Raheem(In the Name of Allah, The Beneficient, The Most Merciful)

INTRODUCTION: The childboard, ISLAM FOR MUSLIMS, was created about one and half years ago against the backdrop of the violent turn of Religion section, between the Muslims, the Christians and the Athiests, and peaked by a report from Seun that a person claiming to be a Muslim sent him a threatening message.
Prior to the separation, the religion section had gone out of hands, and one can only imagine the extent to which religious debates had been taken. It was so serious that time that it will not be unimaginable to me if I heard that somebody punched his/her system or broke his/her keyboard while posting in NL religion section. That was how personal the whole issue had degenerated into.

In the wake of this, Seun had to separate the religion section from the Islam for Muslims section.

CURRENT TREND: In the early days of segregation of the boards, frayed nerves were cooled, and sanity was achieved to an appreciable extent. However, with the current trend of things on this section, it appears the goal of this segregation is being defeated, and there are ominous signs that if we do not nip in the bud before it becomes full blown, we may be in for another unpalatable phase of history in NL. It therefore becomes compelling to restore sanity as quickly as possible before it becomes too chronic to be treated.

ACTIONS: Myself and Mukina, with a view to nipping in the bud, are embarking on sanitization of this board. This will involve locking and deleting provocative and senseless threads, and warning trouble-finding posters. We shall be working with the fact that this thread is ISLAM FOR MUSLIMS, and the goal is for Muslims to educate themselves and serious, sincere non-Muslims, as opposed to perennial trouble makers. We have already issued warning to some Muslims that engage in things that could warrant provocative reactions by non-Muslims here. Going forward, any thread that has to do with personality with be deleted. If you want to complain about a person use the 'Lodge your complaints' thread.
Let me emphasize once again that the primary purpose of this thread is for Muslims to discuss their religion and educate themselves. Other things, including non-Muslims asking questions, are secondary. Therefore, any thread by a non-Muslim that contains abusive words, undue generalizations, or a thread that deals on a topic that has already being overdiscussed will be deleted. Yes, I will lock it because, belabouring an issue that had been on the frontburner since 2006, means the questioner is not reday to learn, and it is of no use leaving it open. We shall lock it only to be able to serve as future response. Whether the poster is satisfied or not no longer becomes our business. We have tried our best to answer him but he refuses to be satisfied, he should therefore be left alone to carry on with whatever opinion he has on the issue.

CONCLUSION:[/b]Mukina has already carried out a massive deletion and locking of threads as a foundation to this resolve, nad more threads will go. Perenial defaulters shall be warned, and if persistent, banned. This is just to formally notify you of this step we are taking. We already know you will draw your daggers again, calling us names. It's not new.

We welcome questions.

Islam › Re: What I Observe About Muslims In Nairaland. by Jarus(m): 7:31pm On Jul 11, 2009
I actually wanted to do what I know how to do best to this thread for the simple reason that the title of this child board is ISLAM FOR MUSLIMS, and this rambling difinitely has nothing to do with Islam for Muslims, but another childish analysis that deserves a place in the recycle bin.  I don't care if the Religion section Mod leaves Abuzola's version there, that is his discretion.

But let me sacrifice my precious time to reply the baseless allegations you put forward:

1. They are very un-objective. They dont want to discuss paedophilia, amputation, beheading, temporary marriages and other inhumane things in islam. They easily lock threads that discusses these issues, that constitutes e-terrorism.
See who is accusing another person of inobjectivity. No other issue has been discussed here more than what you mentioned above. Olabowale and co have taken their time to school you on those subjects for about 3 years now, but in your characteristic  defiant manner, you will never listen. And FYI, temporary marriage is never part of Islam. It is a practice of some misguided Shiites and has no place in Islam. Abuzola, oyb and co have taken you guys up on this paedophilia talk. Oyb opened a thread on it. Now tell me, if we don't want to discuss it, will oyb initiate a thread on Aisha? I pity you.

2. They are very unintelligent. The quality of responses is embarrassing.  Ask a simple question and you all sorts of responses a 5 year old should never give.
I can't stop laughing. Muslims here unintelligent? I can say without equivocation that few people match Olabowale and Babs in quality of debate and analytical skills on NL, but your sealed hearts will never allow you to see reason in whatever they present.

3. They see debates about islamic norms as a game. non-muslims are more interested in debating and discussing these issues and produce evidences, muslims see this as a game and will subsequently go to the religion section to start very unintelligent threads, as a way to get back at non-muslims.
Other than Abuzola, who else goes to religion section to start threads? Olabowale is active on the religion section, not there to start threads, but to defend Islam/Muslim in offensive threads started by Christians/Atheists over there and expose your false accusations.
And you are also guilty of this. You started this very thread as a response to another started by Abuzola in religion thread. You have also committed the offence 'playing game'.

4. They dont know or choose to ignore the fact that allah already decreed them to hell fire.
Poor you. So you know the Qur'an more than us. I have personally engaged Davidylan on this when we crossed path in past threads. NL is the first place I'm hearing this, and I read the Qur'an cover to cover. I don't know where you see this. The truth is ANYBODY THAT DIES A MUSLIM WILL MAKE AL-JANNAH(PARADISE), and only the ones that committed very great sins, and dying in it,without repenting or feeling remorseful, MAY temporarily taste hellfire before being finally admitted to paradise.

mukina and jarus are the most embarrassing. They have NEVER made any meaningful contribution to both pro and anti islamic posts. all they understand is the deletion of posts and the banning of members and ip address. All of which is equivalent to terrorism.
allah is definitely ashamed of mr crackles and squad1 for their nefarious use of words to defend islam.
The beauty of Islam is that you don't say what you don't know. Islam is based on knowledge, not what you feel. I am surely not as knowledgeable as Olabs and Babs, but I try my best to educate my Muslims brothers and non-Muslims on areas I know very well, and leave more knowledgeable brothers and sisters with others.

There are a number of good law firms in the country. I heard Gani Fawehinmi chambers is one of the highest paying. Like somebody mentioned, Yusuf Alli should have made enough money from the series of electoral cases he handled since 2003 and 2007 elections. Ditto for the chambers of Akintola Adeniyi and a few other chambers.

In business and commercial law, I think Punuka, Banwo and Ighodalo,Jackson Etti Edu, and Udo udoma hold sway.
Career › Re: Salary Of A Chartered Accountant by Jarus(m): 10:45am On Jul 09, 2009
This question is too loaded.

Is the CA accepting a new job or moving to another job?
Which company?
Is he an ACA or FCA? Both are CA.
Is he an experienced hire or a Fresh grad?

Consider these scenarios:
1, The GM of a company is a Chartered Accountant, so does the fresh grad just hired. Dou you expect them to be earning same pay. The GM's salary can quadruple the fresh guy's, even though both are CA.

2, I have a Chartered Accountant friend that works in an insurance company and earns about 70K, and another in a multinational company that earns about 250K per month. Both qualify around the same time and are both fresh hires. So the company, not their ACA, is determining their pay here.

3,Some companies factor in your ACA in your pay(e.g audit companies, some banks etc) but some don't(most banks, oil companies). So whether ACA or no ACA, all entry level earn same salary. In other companies, your ACA qualification makes you earn higher than the guy that doesn't have.

In summary, the range is 70K-300K for entry level, which is virtually the range for decent entry level jobs in the country generally.

Just curious. undecided
Maybe I should explain what informed my disappointment.

When Isa Yuguda resigned as Minister to pursue a gubernatorial ambition in his homestate in 2006, PDP did their abracadabra to deny him the ticket. He defected to ANPP, clinched the ticket and took the PDP candidate to the cleaners. He was so loved by his people. He was a man of his people, just like Gov Wamakko of Sokoto state.

So loved was this man that he would have easily won, no matter the platform on which he contested.
I however don't have any problem with his defection back to PDP. It's ANPP's palava. But how he is forcing his deputy to join PDP is what I'm disappointed at. Is that not the same Yuguda that appeared refined, humane unlike a typical PDP politician? The whole state was practically aground when he married Yar'adua's daughter. Now he's chasing his deputy for not decamping with him.

Hey, Mustapha(PBUH) is not a god, and not even God.
Yes, we pray for him because we love him, and seeking Allah's blessing for him is for our own good, he doesn't need our prayers much as we need his. Whether we pray for him or not, seek blessing for him or not, he's certified by Allah as he who will lead the believers to al-jannah.
Islam › Re: Why Are You A Muslim by Jarus(m): 8:43pm On Jul 05, 2009
Why Jarus is a Muslim.

I was born into a Muslim family and we were raised the Muslim way. I used to be quite rebellious when young. I was somehow spoilt, so I didn't value arabic school when young. I didn't go to ile-kewu(qur'anic school) purely out of laziness. I remember tearing the qaidatul badgdadiy(introductory book to arabic/qur'anic study) one night when I fought my islamic teacher(May Allah forgive me). All these happened before I was 15.

However, when I clocked 18, specifically when I finished secondary school, I began to question my belief. I was always thinking. I was in serious dilemma then. I began to think on things like
-what if I had been born a non-Muslim
-what if the people I looked up to convert to christianity
-but there I've heard of people that were more committed, yet ended up later leaving Islam
-do God answer prayers?

All these things kept troubling my mind, and I disclosed it to two of my friends. That was year 2000, although I actually started saying my five daily prayers a year early, but it was more like a forced thing because other family members did do it.

What actually prompted this mind troubling was that I resolved to be religious after secondary school, but I did not want to waste my efforts doing the wrong thing, so I wanted to be sure if Islam was authentic or if I had to cross over to Christianity and become an SU. I wanted to abandon my irreligious life, but at the same time, I didn't want to waste my efforts, I can easily convert to Christianity, because we already had about two family members that had already converted, while I also have a couple of Christian aunties. Atheism didn't even come to my mind because I never doubted there was God, and it was too glaring for me to deny this. The only thing I questioned was whether God answers prayers.

I spoke with two of my friends. One was somehow surprised and asked why at this stage, a praying Muslim, could be asking for books that proved the authenticity of lsam, instead of books that teach islam. I told me I'm somehow in doubt. The other one asked me to humbly, neutrally and heartedly pray to God to guide me aright.

Since I was so free(waiting for my university to start a new session, having passed UME and SSCE) I gathered enough material on God, Islam and Christianity. I read books taht claim to prove teh authenticity of islam. I read English version of Qur'an almost from cover to cover. I read Christian literatures, especially those that disprove Islam. I was so disturbed this time that they noticed at home that something was happening to me, with my loneliness in room, engrossment in books etc. I remember Dad saying he suspected I was having neurosis, given the strange way I approached things, not watching TV with family members, staying indoor for days etc.

Of all the materials I read, only the Qur'an touched me. I wasn't so touched by all other texts I read,Islamic and Christian, as anytime I wanted to reason with the argument/point I was reading, something told me 'but this is written by human. what if he's lying. Man is fallible after all.'(See shaytaan). That was how hard my heart was then. But while reading the Qur'an, my heart trembled, and I cried. When it talks of punishment, I shiver, when it talks of reward, I become motivated to do good deeds. The way the whole verses were arranged, I knew this could not have been written by man. I was too convinced this things I was reading were not packaged together by human. If all these stories, parables, talks about reward and punishment were concocted by men, it would have been exposed all these years. I was so sure of that. My mind was finding peace and I was having some comfort on my question on 'whether this qur'an was fabricated by man'.

I became convinced about the qur'an as truth. But I was curious at something; What if Islam and Christianity were just different telephone lines to God, as some people used to say. So I should be careful and not say Christianity is not right just because I believed Qur'an was authentic. BNut some things came to my mind: First, the two religions explicitly say only it is correct. In other words, if it was the same God that sent both, this should not be. Having being so convinced that this Qur'an can never be wrong, I absolutely believe anything it says, the cardinal of which is if any body comes to God other than through Islam, it shall not be accepted of him. That was how I wholeheartedly accepted Islam, other than being born into it. This was around 2001.

Since then I have seen so many things that have re-inforced my belief in this Islam.
The first is that Islam is very realistic. Islam will not tell you that if you accept it, you will automatically have prosperity in this life. In fact, God may test you to know whether you're truly faithful or just hypocritical. Islam recognizes ups and downs of life, and elaborately teach you how to go about whichever befall you, which admonishing you strive for the best. This to me is the reality. The prophets of God themselves suffered some hard times. so I'm not comfortable with any religion that tell me 'accept me and you will build great mansions, never fall sick etc'. This is too unreal for me.

Another amazing thing about this Islam that makes me convinced about it is the way it explains everything in life, all the mystery of life. I've had my fair share of ups and downs in my 26 years of sojourn in life, but I always find Islam so soothing to any situation I find myself. For example, as a very ignorant Muslim several years ago, one thing that puzzled me was the so-called evil forces. I personally knew there were metaphysical forces. I knew it was possible for some invisible forces to influence human activities, but I can't explain it. It was so confusing to me. Some equally ignorant Muslims or some overpious ones also deny the existence of these forces. Every small thing, we say somebody was doing us etc. It was very puzzling to me then.
But after further study of Islam this subject so simplified and demysitified. I did extensive research on this issue, from philosophical and islamic view, and I was so amazed t=at eth extent to which isalm deals with this topic. Today, there is no mystery of life that si strange to me again. I have handled a possessed case, and saw Qur'anic verses work wonder.

Soothing and hope in times of difficulty, caution in times of prosperity. This is what moves me most about this Islam. Not a religion that preaches wordly prosperity at all times, which is not possible. Islam recognizes ups and downs, and proffers how to deal with each. Thank you Anelka.

Well, the whole episode taught me one thing: Once you fuc.k up, nobody cares about your past achievement/performance. Here are people that had served the company for more than fifteen years, rising through the ranks!

Well, I personally don't have anything to fear, and by God's grace we will survive.

Nigeria refused to make use of me, says Fashanu
Written by David Ngobua
Contrary to widely held belief among Nigerian football fans that Ambassasor John Fashanu shunned the national team each time he was invited to come and represent his country of birth, the former England international has said instead, it was the country that refused to benefit from his football talent.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja, the former Wimbledon of England striker said he made concerted efforts to play for the Green Eagles when Brazilian Otto Gloria was in charge of the team but each time he honoured the country’s invitation he was kept on the bench.

He said in 1985 when Nigeria played against Tunisia, he was dressed but ended up not playing the match because the team had players who were better than him.

Fashanu explained that it was not possible for him to break into the team because the Eagles then had fantastic players in Late Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal, Segun Odegbami, Henry  Nwosu , as well as foreign based players like John Chidozie and Tunji Banjo.
He confessed that in as much as he was bagging in goals in the English topflight, when he got home to play for his native country, he discovered that the style of play here was completely different and it was not possible for him to take the position of any of the players he described as amazing.

“I must tell you that I was not good enough for the Green Eagles. When I was invited to the national team under Brazilian Otto Gloria, I met the likes of late Muda Lawal, Segun Odegbami, Henry Nwosu and I must tell you these were fantastic players. They could dribble and do wonderful things with the ball.

“The style of play here was different from what I was used to back home in England. These were players with sublime skills. Mudal Lawal could dribble past three opponents at a time. It was a game of skills where the ball was played on the ground unlike where I was coming from. In England, it was aerial assault and physical challenge and that was where I excelled,” he said.

He maintained that each time he came home to play for the country, he was not used but the moment he returned to his club, it took him at least three weeks to try to get back into his club’s first team and so he was consequently warned against exposing his professional career to danger.

Fashanu noted that after nine years of fruitless effort to play for his fatherland, Bobby Robson who took over the English national team at the time he was the highest goal scorer in the English League decided to give him the opportunity to win his first cap for his adopted country against Chile.

He said immediately he was given the chance to play for England, he got in touch with the football authorities in Nigeria but there was no response from anyone and that was how he ended up playing for England.

According to him, when it became obvious that he was going to play for England, he invited the then Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida to come over to England and be his special guest of honour on the day of his debut for Britain.

“I requested for the Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida to come and be my special guest. Although he could not come personally, he sent the High Commissioner to go and represent him. And that was how I became the first black player to put on the white jersey to represent England.

Fashanu therefore insisted that it is only those who don’t know the facts about him that keep saying that he refused to pay for Nigeria just as he reiterated that he made efforts to play for his country of birth but was considered not good enough for the team.
