Hi all, A friend of mine is about clinching a job from Acorn Petroleum, but he wants to have an idea about their package. He asked me to help nairaland it, as he's not on NL. Does anyone have any info on this? |
Question: Mention one good thing Islam has done to Nigeria Jarus' answer: HIGHER MORAL STANDARD Islam has brought higher moral standard to areas in Nigeria that it dominates, and even in areas where Muslims are minority, they are rated high in moral standards. This tells a lot on the country. Mind you, I'm not saying all Muslims rank high on moral scale but it has almost become automatic, sub-consciously, for people to respect you in some aspects of morality because you are a Muslim. Some disappoint, while many actually live up to or at least near expectation. Alcohol and its attendant vices, sexual perversion and its numerous children, prostitution, betrayal, insincerity in dealings, especially business, etc are less rampant in Muslim dominated areas. I'm not saying they don't exist, but somehow, Muslims have more restraints. Muslims are so much respected for their high level of morality that when a Muslim, especially somebody known to be one, does something bad, the first thing even a non-Muslim will say is ". . . but he's a Muslim now?" in a disappointing tone. In other words, overtime, Muslims have come to be ranked high on morality scale. Even the lowest-faithed Muslims are known to hesitate before drinking alcohol. In fact, the only thing some people observe in Islam is not taking alcohol. We can all imagine how bad our society would have been if Islam had not restrained many nigerians from bad practices. This is just my own contribution. I don't have the strenght of Olabs, oyb or Babs to engage you people in long arguments. This is my answer to the poster's question, I'm not bothered on whether she accepts it or not. |
noetic2:Yes. I have power only those that forment troubles here. Abuzola, for example, is seen as your equivalent in religion section, but I don't moderate the section. Even at that, Abuzola has himself, suffered ban in the past, not by me, but by another Muslim you always labelled partial. I have had cause to delete posts of even Olabowale and babs before, so I don't know what you are talking about. We did all these, not to impress anybody, but what we considered fair. If I have the power, I would have personally banned so many of you. |
From my observation, many people post their pictures here when registering, simply out of inexperience of what goes on in NL. As soon as people make comments on them, they will be forced to remove them. I was insulted to remove my picture sometime late last year when a thread suddenly turned to a discussion on my profile pix. But from my later experience, I wouldn't have put my profile picture there in teh first place, if I had knwon much about NL before registering. Another factor is the band-wagon effect. Sometimes, you just realize that you're the only one having your picture there, and you feel somehow different. |
hadancome:I have always tried to contain them within my power. These people are veterans in this act. Osisi has been on it even before I joined NL. She has served so many bans. Noetic is another veteran of many bans. The maximum we can do to them in ban them, and this has been done several times but they keep resurfacing under different IDs. They are our greatest headache here, but we are trying to contain them. |
Awo and Zik were not on the same pedestal. Zik unlike Awo was a nationalist like Julius Nyerere besides, Awo has been immortalized in the SE, SS and North.
Says it all. The politics of First republic was basically regional based. Zik and maybe Tafawa Balewa were the only national leaders then. Before them, there was Herbert Macauley. Awo had the Yorubas in his pocket while Ahmadu Bello had the north in his pocket. But Sardauna was more powerful than Awo. The PM, Tafawa Balewa, was his boy. Sardauna stayed back as premier of the northern region and was using Tafawa Balewa at the centre. Awo, instead of using Akintola, atttempted national power which was unsuccessful, leading to cracks within his groups back in his region. Awo, like Ahmadu Bello, played politics of tribe and both did their best for their tribes. Only Zik could be regarded as truly national, and his background, I believe, played a great part in his national acceptance. He was born in Zungeru(north), grew up in Lagos(Yoruba) and of course, an Igbo. He spoke Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba fluently. To cap it all, he didn't play teh tribal card in his politics, a situation that did not go down well with his Igbo kinsmen. |
So Uzoma Nwankwo has left Dangote. This is very shocking. I hope Kunle Alake is still there sha. I have always known that all is not well with Dangote in the last one year but I never knew it has gotten to this extent. The man is having problem everywhere. He was battling Femi Otedola sometime ago, and now he's locked in a tango with Oba Otudeko over NSE presidency. Now, his internal business is having these problems. Hmmmnnn, ![]() |
Felifeli & tkb beat me to the opinion I formed immediately I saw this thread. Accountant doesn't necessarily mean u av 2 work 4 anoda person foreva. Being an Accountant & multi-billionaire bizman /entrepreneur are not mutually exclusive.MKO had a jet. Oba Otudeko will easily buy a jet. Both are FCAs. |
Feel free to do, even though I don't av any power to do anything to any moderator |
I thought I was the only one wondering why Barca are so desperate to off-load their goal-machine. Probably they want to make money cos before his contract runs out. But this is embarrassing. A whole Eto'o being chased out of a club. Heard Man U, Inter, Man city are in for him. |
When I was reading this article yesternight, what came to my mind was 'How will Segun Adeniyi, Simon's ex-colleague at Thisday and now Yar'adua's media man, feel when reading this lashing of his boss from his close colleague? Will he come out and defend his boss again or scold Simon? I found thsi especially daring and was wondering what will happen to Simon now, moreso as his boss-general, Nduka, is a PDP guy. With due respect, Alhaji, you’re not in touch with reality |
I go with Gani fawehinmi. |
I belong to two NL groups on FB. |
Not a nonsensical thread, IMHO. It should be an interesting discussion. I want to believe that by last decade, you mean 2000-2009 inclusive. 08064753382:I have some issues with your forward line of Eto'o and Ronaldo De Lima. I may have to adjust my own team to accomodate Henry. What of Shevchenko? |
@noetic, wetin concern u? @olabs, if I delete d video attempt, all d msg in dat post will go WT it. Shd i? |
Nigeria Players To Be Age-TestedNa wahala be ds o. . . Hope all of them will not jump over the camp fence and run away, and camp becoming empty, as some Zambian players did when threatened with similar test earlier this year. |
adahna:Abandoned, of course, because we are in 2009 and the thread says TOP 10 NAIRALANDERS IN 2008. To be revived and reviewed by the end of 2009, God willing. |
BlacK stars we proved it when we beat the checz republic. What is Czech's pedigree in football? Even a fumbling SE beat France, former world and European champions, in their backyard. |
Let me hasten to good deed by beiong the first to say BARKA JUMA'AH to my dear brothers and sisters this Friday. Juma'ah mubarak |
igba dun, odun kan , olori oko |
I was discussing this with my brother this evening and he suggested we nairaland it. So who commands/commanded more popularity the world over? |

steve mike:He is the Chairman of Northern Union, not Arewa Consultative Forum. And ironically, the last Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum was a Christian, Sunday Awoniyi. |
Best: Ajirebi/Pa James and one guy in Nollywood I can't recall his name, David something, I think. |
sexibabes:I'm not a Christian, not to talk of true one, so I don't know if I'm eligible to direct you. But I know a Muslim scholar, who by Allah's mercy, handles this effectively in line with prophet's methodology of casting out Jinn. This is a pure case of Jinn and I have seen several cases treated, with the possessing Jinn confessing why 'he' attacked the ladies. I'm very serious about this. It's very real, fairy as it seems. |
sorry 4 tribe tin, just can't help it. I'm so sorry . |
Abuzola, See my PM. Let's talk on phone. |
ABUZOLA: A SYLLABUS OF GOOD INTENTION, WRONG APPROACH! I opened this thread early this morning to get a disappointment of my NL life. But at a second look, other than the attack on the person of Mukina by Abuzola, I was not too surprised. I know Abuzola's issue very well. His case is simply one of good intention, wrong methodology. No good Muslim hears or sees a wholesale mockery of his God, Prophet and religion, as is done by some people on NL, and not be tempted to pay them back in their coin. But while doing this, Abuzola let his personal emotions overwhelm him and he, most times, threw prophetic approach to the gutters in defending Islam. I understand Abuzola's feelings. I personally appreciate his passion for Allah's prophet. Admittedly, sometimes, when I read the blasphemous statements cast on Allah and His prophet, I also feel like punching the poster, especially after clear explanations have been made to these people. But why not apply wisdom. While not defending Abuzola, I will say it is maddeningly loud to keep silent in the face of all these e-attacks on Allah, Islam and the personality of prophet. But instead of opening threads here and there to invite them for a fight, why not keep to their threads and engage them in debates in areas they open. Olabowale hardly starts threads. What he does most is countering their false accusations against Islam. Most of the threads Babs started are either warning/caution to Muslims or explanations to non-Muslims on issues raised by them. Ditto for Lagosboy. Much as I hate to inject tribe into any analysis, understanding Abuzola inevitably calls for the mention of one thing I personally observe: Northern Muslims appear more passionate about Islam, but 'some' take it to the extreme, and from what I have seen here, Abuzola is one these 'some'. Muhsin, Auwal87, MC Usman employ civility and wisdom in their religious arguments. I hope Abuzola will do a rethink, and tread softly. I however recognize the fact that we have different personalities, and one way or the other, our personalities reflect in our arguments and actions. We cannot all be soft. Someone needs to be hard at these intruders, but it definitely has to be within limits. Among the companions of our holy prophets were those that were soft(not coward though) and those that were hard(like Umar), but one thing even the hard ones will not do was go beyond limit, as Abuzola went in throwing tantrums at Mukina. Mukina did not deserve the least of the vituperations Abuzola spewed at her. She is so passionate about this section and wants the best for the Muslims here, while not being impartial to other people. Granted that Mukina is number 2 in command on NL, I don't think it is fair enough to expect her to 'Islamize' the forum(pitiably, I have to use that word- Islamize). Seun, the sole owner of the site is an atheist, and I have not seen his co-travellers in atheism clamour, directly or indirectly, for the protection of their belief on NL. There is a limit to what Mukina can do. Yes, she's a super moderator, but she has to respect the powers of the Moderator of religion section. I personally do not have any problem maintaining sanity and warding off perennial thread hijackers here. But one fact we have to live with is, except NL is a completely Islamic forum(like Islamic site), there is no way we can completely ward off these people. We can only try to defend our noble religion, and expose their antics, but we can hardly stop them. So Abuzola, in the interest of Islam, try to thread softly. We have cautioned you privately several times. I PMed you trying to caution you. Mukina and I once sent you a strong-worded message trying to call you to order. You had served ban in the past. But instead of refining your ways, you resorted to opening threads and attacking us. This is not the prophetic way. I recommend to you a book 'The Prophet's manner of correcting mistakes'. And another warning to those non-Muslims that come here to forment trouble, I will not cease to do what I know how to do best, according to Noetic: deleting and locking threads. PS: Pardon my serious, long-word 'essay', that's my forte. |
This is serious! I'm short of words for now. Seriously disappointed. Preparing 4 ofis now, to post my full comment later insha ALLAH. |
Gabry:Noted and corrected, even though I expected you to know that by 'Davidylans' I meant 'all Christians that come here' not necessarily all Christians. |
