This is, actually, President Buhari's First Appointment besides those of Special Adviser on media and Publicity, the IG and Military Service Chiefs

All the previous were instructions to "hand over to the most senior" in the respective organizations in acting capacity. Most of them appointed by the previous administration, most of who will eventually be relieved of such positions once substantive appointments are made.

Nigerians are so fatalistically impatient to go wild and crazy on calling Buhari names for appointments he did not do.

Was interpol contacted in this investigations or was it through our local EFCC. This is a government that has no respect for processes, procedures or for the intelligence of Nigerians.
Here's another question, which committee does Mr Durrel belong to. Is the committee that visited the president that which handles trade. It looked like it was a committee which handled everything from international trade to defence and also foreign relations. The APC government should brief us on this. Just so we get this straight any agreement on bilateral trade would require the debate and approval of the committee on trade , then later would be discussed by the congressmen on capitol hill before we could see any light on it. The US is not run by a small group of people but rather by all the tiers of government and the American people

Nairaland GeneralRe: Seven Irrelevant Things An Average Nigerian Youth Indulges In by jaybee(f): 11:04pm On Jul 22, 2015
emusmith:
Seven Irrelevant Things An Average Nigerian Youth Indulges In.

Popularly quoted; "The future belongs to those who have, believe and pursue their dreams".
It's no doubt there are very many young folks today without a dream.
Some whose parents are well-to-do have decided to "enjoy" the lives till "Jesus comes".

The hazard that brings is usually colossal, enormous and prodigious.

The Average Nigerian boy or girl has no dream and I stand to be corrected.

The Justin Bieber (a Jew) they're celebrating and dying for, in his early teens, discovered his gift of singing and took deliberate and difficult steps in recording and updating them on YouTube. The rest is history...

The crux of this thread is; SOME NIGERIAN YOUTHS INDULGE IN ALL KINDS OF THINGS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY'VE GOT NO DREAM.

Let me list some...

1. Cultism

Looking up the FP, I saw how 12 "angels" were arrested for lesbianism and cultist practices. Why? Religion is NOT the opium of the masses; Deception is. Any religion that deceives, kills or threatens is a cultist group! Why can't these cultist groups quit threatening these little ones already?
Am I speaking over someone's head? Cultism isn't a far-fetched word anymore o...it is beginning to gain popularity at all levels. From music stars to secondary school children. Na was sha o sad

2. Immorality

I can say this anywhere, "people whose lives and happiness depend on sex hardly make any reasonable AND lasting contribution to life". If you hear a guy or girl say, "I can't live a week without sex", just know that the problem isn't the sex; it's like a food chain. There is a primary problem- Lack of SELF DISCIPLINE. You know how irreplaceably indispensable and consequential discipline is to be successful in any endeavor. Sometimes, I say, "sex is a poor man's hobby". [Opinion mine]

3. Social Media

As vital as hooking up with friends is, it doesn't make any sense from a proper vantage point. I was with a lady one time and the way she was like, "wow, I am so excited! I chatted with most of my primary, secondary and university friends on FB". I almost asked, what were you guys discussing? How much time do you give to social media? What of your dreams? Your aspirations? There is no such thing as "spare time". Nick D' Aloiso, built an app for yahoo during his "spare" hours. You burn yours on FB, Instagram, 2go, Whatsapp, Snapchat and Twitter cheesy Only you? Chairman, Chairlady angry grin

4. Obsession for material things

The way some people spend sooo much time and money building their accessories empire, it's quite alarming. It's not evil to be fashionable at all. It is evil when it takes the place of other VITAL things. For example, you are working with hopes that you'll use a huge part of your salary to finance your own dream or company. She is so trendy and latest that all her hard-earned cash goes for shoes and necklaces; so people can what? At the expense and detriment of your dreams?

5. Unhealthy Comparison

This actually is a big problem especially for guys and ladies who are oblivious of the stuff they carry. You see, until you love yourself (not by saying it or updating it as a dp), you won't truly explore the Real You. You don't have Red Lips, and so what? Your legs are 'K' and not "straight" or "bow" and then? My lips aren't "structured" for kissing...stay there! You must truly accept yourself and be grateful. A psychologist once quoted, "what we think about and thank about, we bring about". Ladies, love yourselves! You're robust so because you want to feel "special", guys take advantage of you! You'll then come to NL and say, "all guys are the same" Ok na!

6. Bad Friends

I read a comment on NL from a guy who helplessly stated how tied he is to some things because his friends forced him or he wanted feel among. You reading this can also attest to the fact that some bad habits you picked up were from friends. This takes us to the last point:

7. Addictions

Addiction, they say is like a comfortable bed. You sleep on it and then find it difficult to get up.
I say it has a Snow ball effect on its prey: It takes you farther than you planned to go. It promises pleasure but offers pain.
Watch it: Call a spade a spade, not an implement of Agriculture. You've not done "it" for three days and your whole body is on fire, my bro and sis- you need God in this one! Read 1 Cor. 9:27. Go all out and free yourself. Why? They hinder the greatest of talented individuals from reaching their peaks.

Remember Eric Cantona (a drunk), MC Hammer (a waster), Ronaldinho (womanizer and party freak), Balotelli (Bad guyss)...

Addiction limit Potentials √

Conclusion: Nigeria is at the brink of a turn- around as you can see. She needs a fresh recruit of a group of young folks who 'know their onions' in various fields of life.

Are you going to be among the few of us who will rescue Nigeria from the onslaught of the 'corrupt many' and launch her to her predestined height?

It starts NOW through the decisions you're making: Follow your dreams and make your nation proud (Li Na pursued her passion for tennis and the nation of China sought her help even after she resigned)

Wake Up and Be Counted!
Thank you for this post. I've been thinking of this for long and the more they express themselves the more they confirm their lack of vision and direction. It's absolutely pathetic. That is why they remain mostly unemployable, even after graduating in colleges and universities with multiple certificates, diplomas and degrees; and without the capacity to key into the myriad of government employment intervention policies.

Why this endless debate for buhari and jonathan?

I thought the election results have settled the issue. What we need to do is to be patient and TIME will tell who is better. I mean after 4 years we shall know who is better or worst amongst them. Its is too early to judge buhari who has barely settled down in power with jonathan who was around the corridors of power from 1999 to 2015; as deputy governor and governor in 1999-2007; and in asso rock as vive president and president between 2007 and 2015; and more specifically as president from 2010 - 2015.

Again, TIME will tell when buhari has spent 4 years on the seat of power.

dayo23:
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has announced the appointment of Mrs Alisabatu Dada-Onazi as the new Head of Service of the state, pushing further for a united Nigeria.

El-Rufai made the announcement on Sunday at a civic reception organised in honour of his Deputy, Mr Barnabas Bala-Bantex, in Kafanchan.

NAN reports that before her appointment, the new head of service was the Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry for Culture and Tourism.

http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/06/14/again-el-rufai-appoints-non-indigene-as-head-of-service/
What do you expect from a non-indegine Elrufai. He is not an indegine of Kaduna state and does not know the value of indebineship in Nigerian context.

These appointments however should not be blown out of proportion if the people involved are Long term residents of Kaduna state. For example, the reported new head of service was a permanent secretary in the state civil service. Elrufai did not give her the employment in the service of the state. She grew through the ranks in the service. Thee are many of them from other states working g and getting to high ranks in Kaduna state. Remember Kaduna state used to have the appellation of Liberal state, before some people decided to change it to center of learning, which is just ironical bacause even though Kaduna state used to be the state with the most number of Learning institutions in Nigeria, the inhabitants, especially the so-called indegines are not learning. That is why the issue of appointing a non indegine in the state is an issue. Also remember that in 1990-2003 an Igbo man, Mazi Iyke Madu represented Kaduna south s constituency at the Kaduna state House of assembly as elected member on the platform of Alliance for Democracy AD.

As political events unfold we shall see how Elrufai will govern the state.

As much as you might hate Mugabe, he said the truth on this one. Jonathan was simply not a 'leader' and to be honest without any hating, he cost Nigeria a whole lot. I remember VERY CLEARLY in 2011, when the crisis in Libya was on-going, Jonathan was on TV talking thrash about Gaddafi and the crisis in Libya. Jonathan was still fairly new in power and I bet he didn't know much about what was on ground. Instead of him to have just mellowed and sat to discuss with the AU on how the crisis could be solved, he ignorantly went ahead as one of the first African leaders to declare publicly that they know longer recognized Gaddafi as leader of Libya and that they recognized the TNC(transitional national council) as the government of Libya. Who the heck does that? That was where Libya's (more precisely Gaddafi) connect around Africa started to cut and the government imploded and today Libya is a 'country' with no organized government.

God Bless Nigeria.
The same way gej mangled the state of Palestine independence, by voting against it at the very last minute, because of a simple phone call, despite the long standing diplomatic relationship between the two states. PoliticsRe: Gov. El-rufai Reduces Number Of Commissioners In Kaduna From 24 To 13 by jaybee(f): 3:35am On Jun 10, 2015
faroukfahima:
The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has announced the reduction of the number of ministries in the state from 19 to 13; and a consequent reduction in the number of commissioners from 24 to 13.

This is part of the cost cutting measures being carried out by the governor which has already seen him slash his salary by 50%.

The new restructured ministries include:

1. Ministry of Justice;

2. Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry;

3. Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism;

4. Ministry of Local Government;

5. Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture;

6. Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources;

7. Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development;

8. Ministry of Water Resources;

9. Ministry of Health and Human Services;

10. Ministry of Education, Science and Technology;

11. Ministry of Budget and Planning;

12. Ministry of Finance and

13. Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport

Consequently, the governor has directed that the former Ministry of Lands, Survey and Country Planning be moved to his office as a department; while the former Ministry of Rural and Community Development becomes a department in the Deputy Governor’s Office.

Also, there will no longer be a ministry of Information, but each ministry will have its own public relations unit attached to the office of its commissioner.

lalasticlala, Ishilove

http://www.forumspotz.net/gov-el-rufai-reduces-number-of-commissioners-in-kaduna-from-24-to-13/
This is a right concept but poorly executed. If implemented as stated above, I don't see it lasting long. If it endures this administration, I don't see it transcending beyond. The key departments, Lands, Survey and Country Planning and Information, left outside institutionalized ministries are too important to be left to the political whims of the governor and his deputy. These legacy departments should not be left floating for any reason. Even if the staff are few, they should be merged as autonomous Directorates into a "mother" ministries and given a Directors to assume full control while the governor, or Deputy retains the "commissioner" positions in addition to their other responsibilities. The information is even more disturbing. El-rufai should know the value of official information and communication in government. The north is what it is today because of information, Radio Nigeria Kaduna, New Nigeria, Gaskiya ta fi kobo, Kaduna state radio, BBC London, VOA etc. These institutions shaped the northern Nigeria. That is why you see every northern person clinging to his/her radio as a religion. Now that private radio and TV stations are taking over the airwaves with different agenda and commercial drivers, the need for a focused and coordinated ministry of information is even more imperative. The alternative of all the ministries having separate information units will even be more cumbersome to operate, more financially expensive to maintain and prone to costly confusion.

While I agree with you that vice and deputy are synonyms, you should know that their are official terms used to describe all offices or any political post. the fact that the second in command to our president is called 'vice president' and d second in command to the senate president is called 'deputy senate president' is an example even though the two offices carried same 'president' title.
Like i said in my post its not about her education, its ignorance, u cant choose what title to use in addressing a position, u use the official title for the post. For example, can u refer to the vice president as deputy president while addressing him officially? Even though u are not wrong grammatically, u're wrong technically.
If u make such an error in a letter it will not be treated because it is 'not properly addressed'.
hope u get my point.

Interesting!

I have just a few questions.

1). How much were previous administrations paying for subsidy??

2). How much did Jonathan pay on assumption of duty as the president and in subsequent years as president??

3). What necessitated the geometric increase in the expenditure on subsidy soon after Jonathan took over?? It was about 300billion on the budget but burgeoned to nearly 2trillion at the end of the fiscal year. Was there a corresponding increase in the demand of products to have warranted such increase in "supply"?? Did Nigeria get thirstier for petroleum products??

4). Was there any supplementary budget passed by the NASS to accommodate the increase as stated in #3??

5). There were about 40 importers of products prior to Jonathan's regime. After he took over, the list went over the roof to about 150!! What was the reason behind this??

#waiting.

EducationRe: FG Upgrades Four Colleges Of Education To Varsities by jaybee(f): 9:07am On May 21, 2015
Rilwayne001:
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the conversion of four federal colleges of education to universities.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, and Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, briefed State House correspondents of the meeting’s outcome.

Shekarau listed the affected colleges of education as Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo); Federal College of Education, Zaria (now Federal University of Education, Zaria); Federal College of Education, Kano (now Federal University of Education, Kano);and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri (now Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri).

The minister explained that the colleges of education were part of the 21 federal colleges of education that had been awarding degree programmes in the last three decades under the close supervision of the different universities they are affiliated to.

He said the council considered the need for further quality in teaching service, hence the conversion of the colleges to universities since more graduates would be needed in the teaching profession.

“We are heading to having more graduates in the teaching profession and hence the need for these universities to produce graduates in education. If we need quality education, we need quality teachers,” he said.

Shekarau explained that the next step was for the Ministry of Justice to prepare amendment to the laws establishing the colleges.

This, he explained, would be followed by some administrative changes.

The minister added that the council had approved the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.

Until the approval, the university was said to be the College of Medical Health Sciences under the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

He said the institution had now been granted autonomy as part of continuous efforts to ensure quality graduates into the various fields of medicine and sciences.

“So, a total of five universities were approved at the council meeting today,” the minister added.
